It was an all right hotel a little pricey, but it was a last-minute book the staff was very nice the morning breakfast was OK. The elevator stopped working, and we had to use the stairs a little while our power went out but it came back on the rooms are a little. The room reminded me of the Renaissance, which was cute and cozy, but a little different to modern day room.

    View from our room

We pulled in late at night after driving all day. The staff was friendly and the room/hotel was clean.. a little warn but comfortable. The breakfast was average. Enough to fill you up but not great. Scrambled eggs were hot but watery and the sausage was cooked but not appetizing. The cereal, bread, yogurt drinks and hotcakes were good. We would stay again. The bast part, when we woke up and looked out the window, a beautiful view was in front of us. You can also walk to the marina and over the bridge to downtown New Bern Reasonable price compared to the upscale the other hotels tried to do.

    Stained dirty blanket

The fourth floor smells like cigarette smoke. The first few floors smell like urine. Dirty rooms. Long black hairs folded into the bathroom towels. Dirty stained blankets. Yuck

Thick Dust Layer on the Furniture & Lamps

**DISGUSTING HOTEL. NO REFUNDS** The white sheets & comforter looked clean but there was something black on one of the white pillowcases. The nightstands & computer desk lamps were covered in thick layers of dust. The bathroom wasn't any better: the sink & countertop looked wiped down, but the toilet seat & underneath were not clean, & there was hair on the bathtub. I called the front desk (and the phone looked like it hadn't been cleaned/wiped off in quite some time), housekeeping arrived promptly & "cleaned" the bathroom. As I was setting up my laptop on the computer desk, I pulled out the office chair to sit down & the black seat was visibly covered in what appeared to be human bodily fluids. This was absolutely filthy & totally unacceptable. After housekeeping left, I looked at the bathroom & the toilet seat still wasn't clean. I gathered all my belongings, went downstairs to the front desk, told the clerk the room was not clean enough to stay in & I checked out. I requested a full refund, which she absolutely refused. I emailed the manager & she also refused a refund stating they could've given me another room. No, thanks!! If one's this dirty chances are the others are just as bad. Manager said my reasons aren't "valid". So, a filthy room is not a good enough reason to refund a customer. I booked thru Expedia, and because the General Manager, Jennifer Michels, refused a refund I paid about $150 for a filthy room that I was in for 30 minutes. DON'T STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!

Great location across the bridge from the historic downtown. Easy free parking. Hotel is average and little dated but our room was clean. The heat/ac unit was very noisy but we thought it was OK for a night or two. Free breakfast was good, get there early. Vending machines, drink machines, very small exercise room, not much there. No restaurant or pool and the marina is closed. We liked the location mainly. They do charge your card an addition $100 deposit in case you mess up the room then you get refunded if everything is OK when you leave. Still not sure if this got refunded yet since we were just checking our past Sunday (not a fan of that).

Beautiful view from our room. Comfortable bed. Older hotel that has been updated. Found a great deal online making it a better value than being in Historic New Bern. The continental breakfast was tasty. The staff at check-in was very friendly, but the guy at check-out was definitely lacking in friendliness. Would absolutely stay here again.

Mold in the toilet that they didn't clean once in 14 days

If I could give fewer stars I would. The good: The staff is all really kind (for the most part) especially the gals at the from desk & the location is ideal. That's the only positive. The bad: Cockroaches are just considered normal in this hotel We woke up to find young cockroaches in the room the day before we were supposed to check out; the general manager said that there is nothing they can do about it (no discount or anything like that) because we booked through Agoda. The general manager sounded like she didn't care & as though we were simply bothering her by letting her know they have cockroaches. She didn't even say they would take measures to prevent it for future guests or anything. They serve breakfast daily, thank gods we haven't eaten anything there. After talking to the hotel a bit more a few hours later, we've been told the general manager just won't do refunds for ANY pests seen in the hotel. We were told she thinks it's normal to have cockroaches in a hotel (that also serves food) because of the environment. We were told that she isn't concerned about them despite the health hazard they pose to people. There are a few other issues beyond the roaches though as well. The sink has black mold running from the pipe down the wall a good 5 inches at least, from what I assume is a leak they never fixed. When we have made sure often to not have the 'do not disturb' sign up the room still often isn't touched by staff at all. There is mold growing in the toilet, it has been there the past 3 times they 'cleaned' the room. It hasn't been dealt with & there is nothing in the room for us to be able to clean it with. There is mold all around the walls & ceiling in the bathroom as well. Nobody has dusted the room since long before we got to it or at all since we've been here, the lightbulbs in the lamps were all covered in thick dust when we arrived. The wall air conditioning unit is plugged into an extension cord instead of the wall as well but that's obviously the least of my issues.

    Above toilet

I will never stay here again! It is filthy! There was a hole in the ceiling in our bathroom above the toilet, our shower curtain had brown stains on it. I requested a new one but it was never brought to us. The sides of our mattress had stains all over it. Was concerned about walking in the room without shoes on the floors were gross. This place needs new management and a thorough cleaning. A lady in the elevator told my husband she had to ask for a new room because hers had mold in it.

Let me start off my saying that I am probably being overly generous with my three stars if I'm basing my review solely on accommodations, but due to the nice staff and great views I'm settling. I should mention that we didn't choose this hotel on our own, I was previously booked at a Marriott in which they had overbooked their rooms and thought they were being helpful by arranging accommodations for me here - therefore, with several other hotels already sold out, I didn't have much choice. I wasn't given the best impression initially when our Uber driver told us it was probably the lowest hotel on the totem pole, however he wasn't far from the truth. The 'lobby', if you can even call it that, is small and outdated. The halls and elevator smell of mold. Upon first sight, the hotel room itself looked nice..but upon closer inspection it couldn't be farther from the truth. The walls were scratched and missing paint, there were stains on the blankets, rug, and chair as well as mold on the bathroom ceiling. There was garbage and old food under my bed, and I *might* have had a mouse as a roommate, though I didn't want to look below the bed further to confirm. The room does has a refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot which could be convenient but I didn't trust the cleanliness of them after seeing the other room conditions. The only pros of this place were the nice views of the marina and the continental breakfast was pretty decent, there were eggs, bacon, yogurt, fruit, waffle maker, cereal, coffee and juices. I would not choose to stay here again unless management did a complete remodel - the potential is there, they just have to put some TLC into it!

The hotel appears to have been recently updated, and the renovations are appreciated. However, the guest rooms are quite small, and housekeeping is only provided every other day. At this price point, I would expect daily housekeeping service as a standard amenity. My biggest concern was the pool area. While the water itself was clear, there was visible mold and organic growth around the interior surfaces of the pool, giving the impression that routine professional pool maintenance is not being performed. This significantly detracted from the overall guest experience. The complimentary breakfast was mediocre at best, which unfortunately has become increasingly common across the Hampton Inn brand. The offerings felt heavily processed, particularly the omelets, and there were few healthier alternatives available. Even simple items such as hard-boiled eggs were absent. The chicken sausage was also an unusual choice that seemed out of touch with the preferences of many guests. Overall, the hotel met my basic lodging needs, but it fell short of the expectations associated with both the Hampton Inn brand and its price point. With greater attention to maintenance, housekeeping, and breakfast quality, ownership and management could significantly improve the guest experience.

I originally hoped to extend my stay, but the hotel was fully booked--which actually worked out for the best, as a road closure for the race would have left me stuck on my departure day. I arrived at the hotel earlier than planned, after a change in my Jones County itinerary. There was a wait and some issues with the new Marriott software, but the staff was as friendly as could be. Even after I kept going back to the desk with more questions. I booked a room with a balcony, knowing that I would likely get a side view, not the riverview. But this turned out to be a positive, too. I got to watch the moon rise. The sunrise and sunsets are what people usually watch, but watching the full moon was wonderful and beautiful. The hotel has an outside pool, gazebo, and fire pit with views of the Neuse River. The Bistro is on-site for breakfast and dinner. There is also a fitness room. You get the Ziegler Hotel & Suites! I was working about 20 miles NE of New Bern, and was looking for options other than (a) the $100+/night hotel chains in New Bern or(b) a longer drive to Havelock for a room more in the company's acceptable expense range. Fortunately my internet search found the Zieglar, with rates at least $20/night less than the New Bern chains and comparable with Havelock rates. I stayed in the 1940.s themed room. Frank Sinatra photos and album covers are featured on the walls, along with other 1940's stars from radio, movies, and sports. Other rooms have as themes the 1950's, 1960's, Elvis & Marilyn Monroe, and even a Goth inspired room. Here's was impressed me. The room had all of the modern conveniences (hdtv, microwave, small refrigerator) but also included a DVD player with several movies in the room, and about eight books. I opened the drawer of the writing table and found a 1940's edition of LIFE magazine. The bed was comfortable with sheets having a colorful design - not your typical white hotel sheets. The towels and other linens were a higher quality than what you would find at most hotels. The heat/AC unit was a newer remote control design, and along with the ceiling fan kept the room comfortable on hot humid summer days. If I were looking for a comfortable quiet place where I want to indulge in a good book or two for a few days I would definitely suggest the Ziegler. Don't think it would be a good choice for a family on vacation on the business person needing a place for business meetings, But - if you want a quiet place that isn't your run of the mill lodging room and at a reasonable price - give 'em a try!

The rooms are gorgeous, with designer furnishings and accents in soft blues and grays. It's elegant, yet also very comfortable with a supremely luxurious bed and two nice chairs making a reading nook. The bathroom has large floor space, thought the shower is a bit small. There's no closet per se, but there's a rack with plenty of hangers and shelving above, plus drawers in the bedroom for storage. I paid the small extra amount to book one of the rooms with a balcony. I would recommend going that route, as the balcony rooms are on the side of the building away from Front St. and facing toward the river and the sunset view. The balconies themselves are large, with a side table and two chairs that are comfortable for enjoying the view. Location is prime, and just about anything you're here to do will be within walking distance. Tryon Palace is just a few blocks down, and the main shopping and dining streets are even closer. The riverfront is just across a parking lot. There is on-site parking at The Harvey, with one space for each room. It's easy to access, and directly adjacent to the building. There are no elevators or bell staff to assist with bags, so there are considerable stairs involved unless you're on the ground floor. (There are three floors of guest accommodations.) Everything here is fresh and new and in impeccable shape, and there are many historic photographs the Harvey building and the New Bern area in the hallways and on the landings, but from the inside you would never guess the structure is well over 200 years old. My only frustration was with the TV, which is one of those things where I can never find "normal" channels -- for instance, I could not locate the Monday Night Football game on it. But maybe you're better with technology than I am. Otherwise, this was a terrific option and I wouldn't really consider anywhere else if returning to New Bern.

Still, I wasn't overly concerned, but it might be an issue for a couple that specifically requests a queen-size bed. I even looked at my confirmation email, and it read, QN, which is a queen. FYI, a Queen is larger than a Standard. Oh yeah, no shower gel either. See photo. Luckily, I brought soap with me. Nevertheless, housekeepers shouldn't be overlooking the obvious. Hard to overlook an empty bottle. Next, I was informed that Candlewood Suites doesn't offer breakfast, which is fine since the room had a stovetop. Also, I thought I saw a sign that read, NO PETS. Well, I stayed on the second floor, and some lady across from me had one Weimaraner and a spotted German Shorthaired Pointer. Definitely, not small or medium size dogs, and I guess she snuck them into the hotel, which probably isn't difficult since they only have one person on staff at the front desk. Sorry, I didn't get a photo of the dogs, but most hotels will place anyone with a dog on the first floor. Finally, as I loaded up my vehicle at 3 AM, there was no clerk in view. I made three trips to the room to make sure I wasn't leaving anything behind. On a side note, Harris Teeter grocery is right around the corner from this hotel, which was a nice plus, and there is a Panda Express directly in front of the hotel in the parking lot.

The first room we were assigned had a broken AC unit. Maintenance was supposed to come fix it but never did. The room smelled horrible like mildew and multiple stains on the carpet (I'd be willing to bet this hotel has been flooded but not repaired). We were eventually moved to another room only to discover that the door didn't fully lock. We had to use the latch to even feel somewhat secure. Other family members stayed in other rooms in the hotel and they had similar issues with rooms in poor condition. These rooms need some SERIOUS repairs and some TLC. It's UNETHICAL to keep collecting money for rooms that you KNOW are not up to par! Also, someone kept propping open the back door with a rock. I moved it several times and it seems like this is a common practice because no one else seemed concerned, yet it is extremely UNSAFE for obvious reasons. We also noticed that some of the staff brought their young children to work with them. I know times are hard but this is unsafe and likely an OSHA violation. So many disappointments. It felt like we were staying at a Motel 6 or Super 8. This is not the Comfort Suites that we had grown to love over the years and certainly not what I paid for or expected. It is obvious that there has been a change in management and/or ownership since the last time we stayed there and no one seems to care that they are ruining the Comfort Suites brand. We will NOT be staying again.
