Koplins completely remodeled and continues with the incomparable meat market! Home-town store…read more(forget Wally World)-- the owner or a lovely person will check you out at the cashier. Very well organized now with clean floors and nice inventory. In fact, best availability of products like half-and-half for example. Great variety ad plentiful. Bread from Hanisch, as well as the usual stuff. Of course the meat can't be beat. Well known for the bacon-wrapped chicken, it's the rage. Large breast that can be cross sliced and feed several, it comes stuffed with blue cheese and asparagus, mushrooms, jalapeños-- huge variety and delish! Now you might think, 'hmmm, bacon-wrapped chicken, that's easy!' But let me just say, this is the creme de la creme. Several in town wrap there chicken with bacon and it's a good pound or two of chicken, but the outside wrap and inside stuffing leaves a lot to be desired. These are fully wrapped and bursting with fresh, gourmet ingredients. Personally I love the family tips from the elder woman in the back, the kindness of the owner or manager (not sure?) helping seniors by walking the groceries around the counter and neatly handing back change, and the atmosphere of a small business. Last night we went with grilled rib eye on special for Sunday. It's been a while since we had a steak that good! Juicy, tasty, spot-on fat and no gristle. Koplin's has one local competitor and just stepped up the game.

The parking lot is pretty spacious, so no battling for a spot like you might need to in downtown. The bowling alley is in a separate part of the building; we couldn't see hear any sounds from there in the restaurant. We seated ourselves, as a sign advised, and were quickly brought menus. Service remained pretty good throughout our visit. We both had drinks. My husband enjoyed the Bierstube Red, while I had a bottle of Angry Orchard cider. Our cheese curd appetizer was delicious, the curds hot and squeaky with a nice layer of breading. For my main dish, I had the grilled cheese on pumpernickel along with the standard seasoned potato chips. Everything was really good--the sandwich had a great amount of cheese with a good, stringy pull. My husband LOVED the all you can eat fish fry. He declared it to be his favorite out of the local restaurants we've tried. His fries were great, too. After finishing off the main plate, he could request more fish from our server, and she'd bring out a piece at a time on a saucer. I was in an indulgent mood, so we had dessert, too--the apple strudel. It was really good, the strudel piping-hot all the way through, served alongside a big scoop of ice cream. A caramel drizzle added the perfect final touch. We'll definitely be back here, and probably on Fridays!

Small town bar doing its best. Service was attentive and friendly. Definitely a neighborhood bar…read morefeel. Burgers and such were good, my grilled chicken and asparagus was edible. A $3 upcharge for fries is steep, but they give you a lot of them; I would order them well done/extra crispy. They just recently had to condense their menu. Still more options than an average corner bar, but most of their german food is no longer available. You will not be disappointed by their drink specials.

There are two major facets of the market: a food counter and a small grocery store that specializes in Mexican/Guatemalan goods. There were some fresh items, like produce, vegetables, and cheese, but most of the stock is shelf-stable. LOTS of ingredients. I'm from California, so the vibe reminded me a lot of home, though the Guatemalan items were new and cool. Like, the frozen tamales weren't wrapped by corn husks, but with banana leaves. We were there to order food to go. Tip: it's probably best to order by phone or online, because they do make everything fresh. We had about a 30 minute wait, which was okay, because it gave us a good chance to study the grocery store. The food is well worth the wait, too. We ordered birria tacos and a birria pizza. Like I said, I'm from California, and then my husband is from New Mexico. We have had... mixed experiences in getting authentic, flavorful Mexican food in Minnesota. This stuff? Legit. Generous fillings, lots of flavor. I'm sensitive to hot spices and this was at a perfect level for me--hot to my judgment, but the kind of pleasant hot that washes away when I have some water. The tears I experienced were from sheer nostalgia is getting delicious food that reminds me of home. We will absolutely be getting food from here again!
