I have been using this place for a few years now and have had nothing but problems, Irwin always overcharges me by at least 30%, And the work is never done right, always have to come back to rework. He never tries to save you money, and charges you the maximum while finding excuses to do more work to get more money. I was driving from California to Nevada when my car broke down near Patterson. I managed to get it to the nearest garage, which was Mechanics Express and Imports. Despite showing up without notice on a Saturday to a garage full of cars being repaired, the staff immediately began work on my car. While I was initially stressing about extended repairs, maybe having to get a hotel and rental car to complete my journey, the staff was aggressively working to get the car back on the road ASAP. It took several hours in blistering heat, but they identified and repaired the issues, and got me safely back on the road to my final destination. Through it all, they were professional, kind, empathetic and efficient. Oh, and it ended up being much less expensive than I would have paid at my final destination. I was insearch of a quote for my wife's truck. I called around town (Patterson) I spoke to 4 to 5 places, and mechanics Express was the only one that gave me a quote. There's customer service was awesome, I even spoke to a mechanic which is the main man at the shop. He was very knowledgeable, patient, and answered all my questions! I took my truck there (F150), they were even nicer in person. Once the job was done I notice it was a family business, daughter son, dad and etc. I spoke to all of them, there such nice people, and for now on, I'll be taking all my vehicles there when needed. Whent in for an alignment and tire rotation on my truck and said to come back the next day with an appointment i sent my wife to the appointment the next day and told her the work would take 3-5 hours so she ubers home calls after 3 hours and said it would take another 3-5 hours and that maybe it would be ready so i called to see what was going on and they said that if we didnt want to wait those 10 hours to go pick up the truck so she goes picks up the truck and the workers there were on there phone sitting down with no car to work on and my truck was parked 2 blocks down verry unprofessional and total waist of time do not recommend this place terrible service read more

I would not go there again even if was paid to do so. We were on a road trip with my wife and 5 year old when the engine started overheating. I stopped, checked and the coolant was almost entirely empty. Instead of just driving to the closest Love's (5min away) and adding coolant I added tap water, then drove to Love's and bought 3 bottles of coolant. Then I realized that I'd rather have a pro mechanic do the flush and add the coolant, just in case. Saw that this shop had great reviews and got there. Explained the situation and the rest you can find below: Communication: 0 out of 5: They told me they would call me in 1hr. They did not. I Called them in 1h10m and asked for info. No news and did not tell me when they would call back. Then 2h30m after I dropped off the car I called again and they told me that the car will be ready in 20min. Sticking to the deal: 0 out of 5: when I got to the shop they had already added their own coolant and they did not use the coolant I had bought from Love's. I specifically told them twice that I had coolant and they told me that once they figure out if there is a leak they will call me (which they never did -- see above) and then we can discuss which coolant to add Honestly: 0 out of 5: Once I got to the shop they told me that they did not find a leak. So I asked how come the coolant was gone. They told me that sometimes if the radiator cap is not good the coolant escapes from there. So they had ordered a "good" cap which they are waiting for now. Yes, that was 3hours after drop-off!!!!! Guy calls supposedly the spare parts dealer to see where the part is. Then turns to his kid, tells him in Spanish (so I wouldn't understand) to go across the street and get a cap from somewhere (I could not catch the last bit, as my Spanish is rusty). Sure enough, the kid immediately walks away and 2min later comes with a brand new cap in his hands. Price: 1 out of 5: I had to spend $280 for a leak test (that at this point I am not sure it even happened) and coolant that I did not ask for (I told them I had bought coolant myself and that it is in the trunk twice) Summary: Took too long, zero communication, felt I was getting f@cked with. Will NEVER go again to that shop. I challenge them to contest my points one by one. Such bullcrap experience.... read more

Do not go here! I scheduled my Maserati to get my brakes done. They said the parts were going to be in on Wednesday. I made an appointment for the following Monday. Got there at 9:30 and waited until 2 o'clock only to find out the parts weren't in. They gave me a bs excuse about they ordered the wrong parts etc etc. offered a mini van for a rental but wanted me to pay $40 a day. Yea no thank you. I said when the parts come in, call me and I'll bring it back. Waited a week didn't hear from them, so I called back. They said the parts came but they sent them back. What sense does that make. Yea I'll never return to this place and I recommend anyone looking for a reliable mechanic to not do business with them either. read more

Took my truck that has 120k miles in about a month ago and told them what the issue was (misfiring in the 5th cylinder) and he told me he needed to diagnose it himself and it would be $175. He called me back within a day and told me that there was no compression in the 5th cylinder which I figured. He told me it would be about $4100 in repairs including labor but couldn't tell me for what exactly, and when I went to pick my truck up he handed me the diagnostic paperwork and I seen that he put that my truck has over 200k miles but in reality it had barely hit 120k. I couldn't believe my eyes and now I couldn't believe anything he told me about my truck. I took it to another shop in town and they diagnosed it themselves and told me the repairs would be around $1500... that's way better than $4100. Don't waste your time coming here I would never ever recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

Ok, I took my truck in because I had a bad o2 sensor I couldn't reach to take out myself. I also needed my Ebrake looked at as it was not fully engaging. I brought it in, let them know the problems, and told them the trouble code that was coming up. They looked at the o2 sensor, didn't even touch it, gave me some BS story about my needing all new exhaust components that would cost 3k, and I want to be sure that you understand THEY DID NOT EVEN TOUCH THE O2 SENSOR THAT WAS BAD!! They charged me almost 200 dollars for a diagnostic, that was literally them putting a scanner on the truck, which I already did, pulling some codes from the ecu. I told them the o2 sensor that was bad. They did look at my brakes, but they charged me an additional fee. So, to sum it up, they charged me for a diagnostic that did not diagnose anything. They charged an extra fee to look at the brakes. I left there 200 dollars poorer, with no benefit whatsoever. I took my truck to another shop that replaced the both cat converters, the muffler, the exhaust pipe, and they removed the o2 sensor that was bad for $850. I feel like I have been taken advantage of and I would like the diagnostic fee back. I think it is fair to pay for the brake inspection as they actually did that. read more

I was on a work trip driving up to Sonoma, CA when our car began to overheat. It would have been DETRIMENTAL to not arrive on time, so our crew was very worried there may be a problem too big to fix considering it was 4:30pm on a Saturday and most places were closed or closing... and we were in the middle of no where. So I got on Yelp and called as many mechanics as I could. This shop was the only one to answer and no only did they assess the problem, fix it, top off our liquids and get us back on the road, they ALSO stayed up an hour later than their normal closing time and charged us an extremely reasonable rate. Luckily, the radiator wasn't busted, so it didn't take very long to test the pressure and get us driving, but we're not mechanics. They were honest and helpful and I'd return if I was local to the area. Two thumbs up for these guys. read more

Broke down in the middle of nowhere on the way home from northern California to So Cal. He was able to repair my car enough to get me home without having to spend the night. He could have done more repairs (and made more money) but he had my best interest at heart and recommended I get it done in my hometown so I could still have the warranty coverage. The guys and gal at Mechanics Express have the best customer service in the Newman, Patterson, and Gustine area. My car's check engine light was being difficult with being diagnosed. After a few day I was called to pick up my car. On my way home, the check engine light came on again. A little frustrated, I called back to ask what happened. With no hesitation they told me to bring it back. Even though it took a weeks, I got a call each of those weeks with an update of their progress. Once they were done, I got a full explanation as to what was wrong with my car. Car broke down on HWY 5-N late at night just north of Patterson- apparently the belt decided to break & I rode a few extra miles before skidding off to the side of road - luckily no crash; tow truck was called by police that were nice enough to actually stop - car was dropped off around 2-3am and the shop began diagnosing the issue first thing/ they were up front, honest, highly detailed in finding other small issues in my car but not being pushy to make those repairs right away; we added a synthetic oil change, diagnostic test and the labor for the belt- all in all very excellent customer service, competitive pricing and actually making a horrible situation of breaking down overnight into a very pleasurable & professional experience! I would highly recommend this shop not only for people broke down but for everyday maintence and repairs. Not many like this left out there! I was excited to hear Mechanics Express and Import works on Motorcycles as it is difficult to find good bike mechanics who do not rip you off. My previous go-to guy ended up buying a dealership so his prices are now dealership rip-off prices. I called and set an appointment for Saturday to bring my bike in which went well, as I dropped the bike off Friday evening the owner asked what service was needed. I mentioned replace tires (which I provided), oil change and check the brakes. No estimate was given... (my fault, should have asked for one). I was asked if I needed it completed Saturday. I said no as I wasn't in a hurry to get it back. On Monday afternoon I haven't heard from them so I called to see what the condition of the brake-pads and if they will need to be replaced. the response was, oh we will start to work on that this afternoon. the following day Tuesday I received a call saying it was done except for the brakes and the rear will be needing to be replaced. the total cost would be a few bucks short of $300. I agreed to have the rear brakes replaced and I would pick up Wednesday after work. So Wednesday I go to pick up the bike and he gives me the total (which is what he told me on the phone) I asked for a breakdown and he rattled off some numbers. I paid full amount and rushed to get home as it was a slight rain. Once I got home, I noticed the Oil Change was not listed on the receipt, so I gave him a quick call to ask if it was done and he said "oh! did you want the oil changed?" I responded and said that was part of the request. Later that evening I took the bike out for a ride (rain stopped) and the back breaks were very noisy, and the breaks were gripping hard. My diagnosis is the calipers were not opened fully when pads were put on, so the brakes are gripping the rotor and the brakes are tight without appling the lever. by now the shop was closed so I can not go by to show. I will run the bike a bit to see if they loosen up before going out of my way to show him the issue this weekend. Please be aware of this place and make sure you get an estimate of work before leaving your vehicle. read more

Screw this sorry place. My boyfriend took his car here for one problem it was returned and we paid $800 bucks for it. Not even 24 hours later the car cuts off will driving and he has to pull off to the side of the road. After multiple attempts it starts back up and he is able to get it home. He returns the car back to the shop. Monday they have the car Tuesday my boyfriend calls and checks on it and whomever answers the phone tells him the owner will call him... Thursday he calls and the woman apologize says she's been out for 2 days and again the owner will call... Mt boyfriend called all day today with no answer. I finally had enough and drove us down there to claim the car. The mechanic that was there called the owner/brother and handed my boyfriend the phone. The owner being put on speaker with every excuse about what was going on with the car. My issue is you take the money dont fix the problem or I'm sorry say you fix the problem all to have another problem that wasn't your fault . Then the lack of communication. Moat people need their vehicle to get yo work so communicating how long you'll have their car would help. But the experience here was unprofessional and down right inconsiderate, rude and a scam! My 17 y. o. son's car broke down and started leaking a lot of gas in Wesley outside Patterson. AAA would not tow it due to the gas leak. We live about two hours away and I wasn't sure what to do. I called this shop and Irwin answered. He was a lifesaver! He went way above and beyond for us - Irwin arranged a tow, diagnosed the problem, ordered a part for the next day, drove my son and his girlfriend to a place they could stay, picked them up the next day, finished the repair and got them on the road. This shop saved my trip. I was driving down the 5 towards my SoCal beach vacation when my car started to shake, make noise and threaten to fall apart. I pulled off the next exit, parked asap and used Yelp to find the only mechanic still open at the time. They offered to stay late so I could get my car to the shop, offered to help me find a place to stay in town, and even lent me a bike to get back to my hotel. The work was done as quick as they could get the parts and they did not over-charge me even though they were my only option.
