This review is not about the MedCenter itself - for a very busy, stressful work environment, everyone in the front office does the best that they can, and it's appreciated! The nature of a walk-in clinic is not always glamorous, perfect service, and this place does get the job done - I've had great treatment from the doctors here in the past. I've seen a few doctors here over the years that have been just fine, but Dr. Meller was very challenging for me, and I want to corroborate some of the other reviews here. I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt that it isn't intentional - and while I expected him to be a straight-shooter, I was surprised at home very rude, condescending, and dismissive his treatment of me was. What should have been a basic conversation and Rx (to treat a sinus infection that I routinely get and treat successfully with a simple augmentin Rx each year), was practically a shouting match. I appreciate that this particular illness is very over-prescribed, but there are times when an Rx is indeed necessary - and after 14+ days of illness, it's not leaving on its own. A little interpersonal respect and trust for the patient's medical history/precedented treatment would go a long way here. I'd recommend steering clear of Dr. Meller. read more

I stopped going here years ago, when the doctor told me that my Pilates stretches wouldn't help my lower back issues, when in fact it's been the only thing that HAS worked (haven't had a lower back issue since). Recently, my wife had to go here as an employee referral from a work accident, so we didn't have a choice. Get ready to wait 45 minutes in an empty office, even with an appointment. While waiting, a call came in that was referred to the office manager. They gave the caller her phone number, which I thought was strange because most offices would simply have an extension to transfer the call to. Explains why patient scheduling is so inefficient. When we left, I noticed the door to the too small parking lot opened outward, which I always thought was a violation of building codes. In the case of emergencies, isn't the door supposed to open outward to avoid trampling and crushing? read more

Very rude staff , especially if you are sent by your employer for a drug screen or work related issues. From the two female receptionist to Hunter Reyes( The drug screen collector) that is extremely rude ,and has that don't speak unless you are spoken to attitude . This place is a joke! I had gotten really sick while visiting my grand babies near Seattle eight days ago. Made an appointment for last Sunday. I'm really sick and could hardly get out of bed due to respiratory and sinus issues. The Doc prescribed an inhaler that makes me totally shaky, an antibiotic and a TWO DAY RX for my coughing, which I stretched it out to FOUR days! Still sick and coughing my lungs out! I called them for a refill and they said "you need to come back in"...are you kidding me?!?! I've unfortunately had to deal with them before, not my first bad review! I can't get into my normal doctor without a three-four week appointment...they told me to see my Primary Care Doctor, haha! All I asked for was a few more nights of medication to help me sleep! My ribs, back and stomach hurt from coughing. Thanks for nothing. read more

What a joke of a healthcare center. We show up 7:20pm and are greeting by a nurse with an attitude. My fiance tells him her symptoms and he says " Ok so what are you here for?". He then goes inside for 10 minutes and has us wait outside just to then come out and say they can't take her in because they stop taking patients at 7:15. I cannot believe what I just experienced. Urgent care clinics are never the top on anyone's list of places to visit but this was the absolute WORST. The wait was manageable, the staff was friendly but the doctor was completely rude. He was demeaning, dismissive and plain insulting. I went in for possible bronchitis, told him the symptoms I was experiencing (shortness of breath, pain in my chest from coughing, combination of chills and sweating, sore throat, body aches). In the most dismissive and demeaning manner he literally told me to cover my mouth and try not to cough, and suck on throat lozenges. He performed a flu test and while he was waiting for the results, he came back to the exam room and sat in a chair, asking me what symptoms I wanted to fix and he'd tell me what to do. His body language and facial expressions indicated that he was not at all interested in my concerns, and that I was wasting his time. I know the symptoms I'm having, I already tried OTC solutions and they're NOT WORKING, which is why I came to see if my symptoms had developed into something worse. I would not recommend that you waste your money here even if it's your only option. I much would've rather paid my ER copay (which is almost 4 times my urgent care copay) to see someone different. I'll be contacting my PCP tomorrow to obtain a second opinion. I'll also be lodging a complaint with my insurance company. I had to get vaccinated prior to my trip overseas in China. Hunter was amazing, quick, and provided a lot of information in preparation for my trip. I've just waited an hour and three quarters to see the doctor having driven down from Santa Ynez, only to have to walk out unseen and drive the 45 mins home having wasted all that time. I waited so long because they prioritize people who make appointments and they were booked out all day when I arrived. Why do they call themselves an urgent care provider when they act like a family medical centre???! They should be prioritizing people who walk in of the street, that's the whole point of urgent care!!! read more

Receptionist biggest idiot. She was super rude and talked like a robot repeating the same thing over and over. TERRIBLE SERVICE. I did not get seen by a doctor here. Why?! Because the receptionist decided I did not need to. A receptionist.... with no medical degree...told me too bad we don't care if you die basically. DO NOT COME HERE. Waste of time. She also made an excuse about my insurance randomly saying I cannot be here? This was after I kept pressing her on just why I cannot be seen here. (I've been seen at other urgent care facilities for this no problem). I walked out as there was no point of talking with someone with zero brain cells. I must admit that after reading prior reviews I was quite apprehensive about my appointment with Dr. Meller today. I'm very happy to report that my visit was top notch in every regard. From the reception, intake, etc., and my visit with Dr. Meller I was treated with respect and understanding. Dr. Meller's delivery is direct, it is not without humanness, gentleness and understanding. He went above and beyond in answering my questions, offering guidance, and even scheduled my appointment with another Dr. which my appointment revealed was necessary. I would highly recommend the Med Center, their staff, and especially Dr. Meller. read more

My daughter went to the Med Center located at 2954 State St, Santa Barbara, CA 93105. She showed up with her service animal (dog) and they told her that she can't come in with an emotional support animal. She informed them that he is a service dog not an emotional support dog. At this time Dr. William Meller came out and asked for documentation proving his status (According to the ADA they are not allowed to request any documentation and can't discriminate against people with disabilities). She informed him that he can only ask 1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and 2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform? He did not ask either. He told her to leave him outside if she wanted service. She didn't know what to do because she had to take the test at this establishment and there was a deadline for test results. A woman outside waiting for her service, said she would watch him. Reluctantly, my daughter left her the dog with the woman while she went in for the test. The reason she brought the dog with her is because she has extreme anxiety of doctors and medical procedures. The whole process resulted in a panic attack inside the Med Center facility and in front of the other patients, which caused her to not completely listen to the directions for the test. The doctor then scolded her in front of other patients for not following directions (she couldn't concentrate on the directions due to the panic attack). This put her further into a panic attack. The facility and Dr. Meller needs to be informed that their service animal policy is a violation of a patients civil rights. They need to understand that service animals are there to help a patient so their service can be performed. When my daughter called me in the middle of a panic attack, I tried to calm her to get the details. I then called the Med Center and requested to speak with the doctor. The male receptionist asked why I wanted to speak with him and when I said why I was calling, he hung up on me! I then called back and a woman answered. I was on hold for a while, but when she came back, she alerted me that my daughter did get her test done, but she can't speak to me because my daughter is over 18. Then the doctor grabbed the phone from her and he literally shouted that MY DAUGHTER IS OVER 18 AND HE CANT' SPEAK TO ME! Then he again hung up on me. I didn't ask for information on my daughter, I only wanted to ask him about the service animal policy and make sure they understood what they did is a violation of the ADA policy and that it caused my daughter to have a full blown panic attack. Dr. William Meller is an ass! He runs a business that has policies that are in violation of the American Disabilities Act. At a minimum the office is run horribly and only the woman could have a civil conversation. I hope anyone reading this goes to another facility. My daughter will be reporting to the ADA. Very concerning how management doesn't care about all the negative and hostile reviews on here. ***People who are reading this : Do not go here to be treated, Especially females! Its very embarrassing as a health care profession to walk into a place they call urgent care. Its rather sickening and not sure how this place is in operation. The minute I arrived outside med center, the signs outside said to wait outside until an employee greets you. No one was coming to greet me and patients were siting inside so I assumed to walk inside and one of the employees told me to wait outside because "someone will greet me" in a rude manner and I told her no one is coming that's why I walked in and she decided to argue with me and told me to read the signs. Already, im having an issue with this office. As a health care employee , the amount of unprofessionalism and rude demeanour I've experienced from the entire staff including the physician from start to finish was absurd. Chief complaint was vaginal discharge. I was confused on who took me back to an exam room, assumed it was a Medical Assistant, Couldn't take down proper history and I had to tell him to do a basic UA, Watched him set up a vaginal tray incorrectly. *THIS SHOULD BE A STERILE FIELD*. He pulled out a swab to drop on the tray and touches the swab tip to the non sterile plastic wrapping of the speculum, that is inserted into the vagina. ( I'm highly experienced in assisting physicians on sterile procedures.) He gave poor instructions on what to remove clothing wise. When the physician comes in, he doesn't introduce himself, very unpleasant from the start and made me feel uncomfortable. I'm in a vulnerable position as a female with the symptoms ive been experiencing and he told me he wasn't going to give me any medication to take home. He stepped out of the room a couple times as if he went to google the procedure, hence the lack of confidence with female genetalia. He didn't communicate why he left the room abruptly. He brings a female to chaperone in the room and I had no idea a female was going to chaperone let alone didn't introduce herself once. Dr. Wexlar failed to communicate to tell me we were all finished, as my legs were still open longer than they should have been. He tells me he will look at the specimen under the microscope ( he's not a pathologist). Comes back in to tell me everything looks "healthy". There clearly is a problem hence the symptoms I'm dealing with. The office has 0 communication skills between staff and patients and 0 compassion. Worst experience ever. Waste of money and time. I am going to start this off by saying I didn't even get a chance to see the doctor. I came to this Med Center yesterday (11/18/19) in the evening. I had been feeling very sick for a week and in a bit of pain, so I wanted to get some tests done. When I got there, I stood by the front desk for a couple of minutes before the gal behind the desk finally acknowledged me. She never even looked up to speak with me, but she took my information and told me to sit down. A few minutes later, she calls my name and asks me to come up to the desk. I go up and she begins saying (loud enough for the rest of the patients to hear of course) "Back in 2016 you had a bill for $30.00 go to collections. You paid it right away, but it went to collections" I informed her that I wasn't aware that I had a past due bill until I had seen it show up on my credit report and the second I saw it, I paid it. Her response is "As your punishment" (yes. She said as my punishment. verbatim.) "you will have to pay your entire bill today". Now, I was not terribly upset with the situation being that I understand that that is probably their protocol, even though it was just $30.00. I have never had an issue with a doctors bill before, and have not had any since. The most frustrating thing about the situation was how rude the staff member was, her tone of voice and the belittling statement about it being my punishment. At that point, I told her I was not interested and decided to leave. She shrugged, seemed to have no care, and I said to have a good night and walked out the door. Again, I was in a bit of pain and considered just paying the whole bill just to see a doctor, but the way she had handled the situation was just so unprofessional, I could not justify spending anymore time in that office where the staff clearly does not care about your well being. Gabby was friendly. Im afraid of needles but she talked me through it and was gentle. A plus and minus about this place is that they do Covid testing. The minus is that the same doctor that is treating patients on the inside will go back and forth between doing a covid swab and then treating a patient. This business is so unhelpful and a complete waste of time. I came into the clinic for a TB and health screening. The doctor who assist me was upset that the nurse who did my TB shot, left the needle and packaging on the table. He didn't know what it was for or why it was still there. I told the doctor the nurse did a TB test on me. Then as he's doing my physical he rudely told me I was overweight. When I left, the doctor told me to come back on Monday but didn't give me a specific time. I didn't know a TB tested needed to be completed within 72hrs until I called because no one specified a time, just the day to return. Today they closed at 2pm, when online it stated the business closes at 8pm. Overall, the staff on the phone at the Santa Barbra location was so rude and unhelpful. They told me I needed to pay for a TB test since I didn't come back by 10am, when I had no idea on a time. They were unwilling to provide me with just a new shot. They wasted my time and super unhelpful to their patients. Don't go here if you can avoid too! read more

Just visited The Med Center and will NEVER return there. ZERO customer service skills, ZERO warmth or kindness shown. Dr. Meller acted as though I'd bothered him by showing up and asking for help with an infection because my regular Doctor was out of town. He was rude, talking over me, and abruptly dismissed me when I stated my symptoms. He gave me a prescription for the type of infection that he assumed I had, which the lab tests later proved I DID NOT have. Whatever you do, don't choose this place... even in an emergency! Follow-up: I called them two days later to ask if my lab results were in, since I had not been called yet. The person I spoke to said the lab results came back negative for the type of infection they tested for. Realizing that I would now need to wait until my regular Doc could see me, to be accurately diagnosed and treated, I asked for them to email me the lab results. She said they can't do that because they don't have the capacity to send confidential emails. I drove back over to The Med Center and picked up a copy of the lab report to give to my Doc at the upcoming appointment that I had scheduled. The next day, on Friday evening at 6:33pm, I received a voicemail message that advised me of the lab test results, more than 24 hours after I had called in and then driven over to receive them. So, I still have the infection! I wasted my time, money and effort on The Med Center visit, and will now have to wait to see my regular Doc for some actual help. I was more nervous about coming here because of all the negative reviews I read. This place isn't that bad. I didn't have an appointment, just walked in. The wait was about an hour, but not bad at all Bc the receptionists let me go grab lunch while I waited. My biggest critique is the nurse I had was somewhat distant -she needs better training in bedside manner The receptionist were not very welcoming. The NP was very sweet and helpful. Brought my son with a 104.0 fever. The waiting room was empty and although they brought us in right away the doctor never came in the room and made us wait. After about 15 mins we decided to leave and take him to the er. We told the staff as we were leaving we "thought you would see him right away." The front desk said that the doctor was with a patient but when we looked back saw the doctor at a computer talking to another staff laughing having a full conversation. Lies lies lies!!! The Med Center has never been a favorite, almost always read x-rays incorrectly, etc. I needed stitches and the doctor was AWESOME. but - after telling me to make an Appointment - so i didn't have to wait. as one might guess, this doesn't end well. I came in to get a COVID test before traveling and the girl helping me was questioning why I wanted to get a test (???) I explained I was seeing older family members and wanted to be safe. Med Center - Family Practice Near Me - Santa Barbara, California

If I could use less than one star, I would. I went to the State St. office. I had been diagnosed with a serious neurological ailment the day before and told to pay careful attention to my breathing and see someone right away if I noticed a change. It was Saturday, so my options were MedCenter or ER. I told Dr. Meller I was having difficulty expanding my lungs. Dr. Meller did not examine me. He immediately told me it was anxiety within 1 minute of his arrival. I told him I was certain it wasn't. He told me sarcastically he had "been doing this for a couple of weeks." He challenged my diagnosis, demanded I tell him who my doctors were. He refused to listen to my lungs or offer any assessment. Then, when I got tears in my eyes (I was worried for my well being and came seeking help) he got up and walked away. On the following Monday, I discovered the lower lobes of my lungs were indeed collapsing. This is not a doctor to put your trust in. He was arrogant, callous, and refused to even examine his patient. read more

*Keep in mind that I work with medical professionals, so I do understand that they have difficult jobs, and I try to by understanding, BUT... I had a terrible experience with the Med Center which is in line with all of the poor reviews that I read on Yelp about Dr. Meller and his staff. I was hoping that he would not be present at the time of my visit and the only reason I went there was that it was the only location available at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. The receptionist (Barbara?) interrupted me multiple times. When I asked who the doctor is on staff she simply told me to click "unknown" on the electronic pad she gave me. The check in process was completely impersonal. Dr. Meller was colder than most metal exam tables - His demeanor was curt. He didn't even review my med list with me, gave me a medication which wasn't properly mixed, and told me to "go get some Mylanta". He was knowledgeable but very condescending. I am pretty sure they overcharged me for copay by $20.00. I felt like a cow in a slaughterhouse. I will never return and tell everyone I know not to go to this facility. read more

This was a horrible encounter. Receptionist not very friendly only 2 people in waiting room. Nurse,medical assistant awesome. Dr lacking in bedside manner. He was horrible my diabetes tester malfunctioned and I got abnormally high readings for me. I woke up with intense nausea and just feeling bad. He was annoyed I was there . We determined my kit malfunctioned he did nothing for my nausea which is now worse than this morning. This means going yet to another walk in today because my dr is booked. I recently started a new job and was told to go to Med Center to get a TB test. All I can say about this place is that they have the worst staff out of all of the medical facilities I've been to. They were rude to me from the second I walked in the door and all throughout my visit. The front desk lady has no customer service skills whatsoever. The nurse that called me back was extremely rude and rough with me when he gave me the TB test. Even the doctor couldn't seem to be bothered with anything besides a yes or no answer. I had an abscess on my hip that I needed taken care of, and this place was the only one open after I got home from work. I went in very nervous as I did not know what the procedure would be like, but once I was seen by the doctor he was very nice and calm about the situation. The wait wasn't too long, there were 3 people in front of me and I was waiting for about 45 minutes. They have a nice electronic check in system that streamlines the whole process as well. The work was actually done by a assistant, who was great. She walked me through the whole procedure beforehand and explained what she was doing during the process. Overall a very pleasant experience, I would definitely go back in the future despite all the negative reviews. read more

Go to Zugan Health Urgent Care instead!!! Dr. Meller is a dick. No doubt about it. Condescending, combative, rude, dismissive... all words I am now reading in prior reviews and match what I experienced to a "T." Sadly, when you have a minor emergency-type situation, you don't often take the time to yelp local doctors before a friend zips you across town. I dislocated my shoulder, which I've never done before, and knew immediately that the searing pain was something I needed help with fixing. I walked into another room in my office and tried to explain to my co-workers that I needed someone to pop it into place, but no one knew how, everyone froze and I proceeded to very quickly black out from the pain. The coworker called her friend who'd dislocated her shoulder many times before, who then tried to coach her through how to place it. (Might I mention this mom of 3 kids told her that the pain from this was worse than child-birth. I can't verify this being childless myself but I've been through some crazy sports injuries and this surpassed them all!) The coworkers thought it best I get seen at urgent care anyway. All Meller did was walk in the room, bark at me to stand up, announce it wasn't dislocated and then talk over me for about 3 minutes while I tried to explain what had happened (and how I had actually probably managed to get it back into place, hence why my arm was no longer hanging limp in front of my body.) The only time he started listening was when I mentioned blacking out and waking up on the cold floor, where I slowly rotated my elbow up and tried to wiggle it back in... up until then, he was treating me like a silly little girl who had wandered into his office telling stories. My friend who had brought me there asked him how to pop it into place so she could do it correctly in the future, and he told her to "google it" and "go to medical school." This is worse than poor bedside manner, this is poor medicine. Waste of a co-pay and hour of my life. P.s. Not that this is relevant to the above, but he's a shrivelly, psoriasis pocked, red-skinned old man who looks like an alcoholic and clearly hates his job. Not someone/somewhere you want to be when you're already not feeling good. P.s.s. the ladies at the front desk hate their lives too. Rude beyond belief. Called up to make an appointment and placed on hold 15 minutes while the person looked for a time slot. After returning the employee "Veronica" sighed on the phone after she told me she had 5 other people waiting and I was wasting her time because I had to pause for a few seconds to check my schedule. Then of course she wouldn't listen or put me through to the office manager and hung up. Great job Med Center! I will be contacting the CEO but by the looks of all the negative reviews it doesn't look like the Med Center really cares about their reputation of customers. read more

I came here yesterday for the sole purpose of receiving a drug screen for pre-employment. When I arrived, they placed me in the same line for the people who were there for covid testing. This was extremely uncomfortable for me because I was there for a non covid-related issue, and was surrounded by potentially covid positive folks. They should have had a separate line or area for non covid-related issues. Secondly, I waited there for over an hour and haven't even gotten checked in. I told 2 different nurses my purpose for being there, and they simply took note, walked away and never came back. I was so disappointed with the service, that I went to their Goleta location. Over there, they asked me right away my reason for being there, checked me in within 5 minutes, and got everything done within the hour. read more

If I can give this horrible place zero stars. The city of Santa Barbara sent my daughter her to get a TB done. They had to do it twice because the person couldn't manage to do it correctly the first time. We came back today to get it read and "Kim" couldn't answer simple questions. She has no clear answer and "just because" is another one of her favorite things to say. She went to her manager "Rosio" to get clarification on a question I had and came back with, "that's just the way we do it." She tried to back track after I corrected her multiple times. I am a healthcare professional. Medical assistants shouldn't answer medical related questions especially when speaking to 15 year olds or anyone else for that matter. It's sketchy and scary to have people working there that don't know what they are doing. What they are doing would probably go unnoticed to someone that isn't a medical professional. read more

I was super hesitant to go here given all the terrible reviews I had read, and expecting the worst, BUT we visited the med center today due to my toddler waking up with what we thought was pink eye, and the med center being one of only 2 urgent care centers open on Sunday's with the exception of the ER. We arrived before they opened and we were about the 4th people in line. The wait was minimal, both in the lobby and in the exam room. We were there for less than an hour for the entire visit. The doctor diagnosed our toddler with pink eye, prescribed him eye drops, also he noticed a cough, that could be croup, so he also prescribed an antibiotic for his cough, which he said we didn't have to fill right away unless we noticed the cough got worse. Anyways, everyone was super friendly and thorough. We were in and out with no issues, it was a very pleasant experience. read more

My first time going here. I wish I had read the other yelp reviews about Dr. Meller before my visit. The first thing he said to me after asking about my face rash was, "why are you even here (said rudely?)" It took me a minute to gather my thoughts, but it is hard to get a quick appointment for my regular doctor, but that wasn't good enough. He continued to badger me, talk over me, dismiss everything I said, even down to my previous doctor's advice. It was one of the most horrifying doctor's visits I have ever had in my life. I will also note his eyes were glazed over, so maybe he has "issues" personally. How this man ever became a part of the healthcare profession, is beyond me. There is absolutely no compassion. I have had great experiences here with dr Jill Christie. I've been here a total of 5-10 times and each time i've never had to wait more than 30mins - 1 hr and everything was easy and simple . Went there on Friday to get a TB test done for work and I was literally in and out within 20 mins. Front desk staff could be a little friendlier and more professional - for example when someone walks in and the front desk says "how can we help you?" it's a little daunting if you're coming in for something embarrassing. They should maybe have a different system - like " are you here for a walk in? fill this out ..." read more

They billed me for a 'doctor visit' as part of my COVID test. My insurance covered the testing expenses but not the 'doctor visit' which was just a person administering the test and patronizing me. Don't think it takes an MD to talk down to people and stick swabs up their noses, so pretty bummed they billed me a 100+ dollar co-pay for that. Go to Zugan instead. read more
