Today at MedExpress was super easy and straightforward. I made an appointment and was in and out within 1 hour and 15 minutes. I saw a bunch of people walk in after me expecting to be seen or put on a waitlist, but without an appointment, they were told to return later. Seems like making an appointment online is the best option. I made an appointment at 9 AM for a 1:30 appointment same day. The nurse practitioner was super kind and helped me solve my weekend crisis quickly! read more

A few months back, I was feeling really bad. I already knew what it was and had attempted to stave it off without having to visit a place like this. Not to worry, it was on COVID, but what I had I always get around that time of the year. The dreaded Pennsylvanian sinus infection, you know they one you get because it hits the 70s in mid March and you think that jacket isn't needed. Well, when my head felt like it was in a vice grip I decided it was time to suck it up and make a stop here. In the time of COVID, you need to call ahead and be screened. You can either do this on your way here or in your car from the parking lot. Here is my big complaint about this place. During your time of need they attempt to hit you when you're down. Before allowing me to enter they basically demanded a credit card. Why? Because they want to ensure they get paid. Doesn't matter that you have insurance, doesn't matter that this isn't how other facilities do it, doesn't matter that you already know your symptoms. First of all, I'm not giving you my credit card information, period. Second, especially not over the phone. Third, that's not how business works. You send me a bill in the mail, not hit my credit card/bank account out of nowhere because you want your money. After telling them I am not giving them that information and some back and forth, they allow me to be treated. Is that how a medical facility is now run? Do they think they can do it that way because demand for medical care has gone up? Honestly, if I would have known I was going to get that much hassle, I would have gone to the clinic up the road that was exactly like this, or to the hospital a block over. When I was allowed in they told me they would allow me in for just this time, but in the future anytime I come into one of their locations I would have to provide my card information. Nope, still not going to happen. Anyway. After being left inside and go through the check-in process, you still have to sit in the waiting room. So it's like a ride at an amusement park, you wait in a line outside, the inside. Finally get back to be seen by the doctor and I was asked what's wrong. Told him it was a sinus infection and after checking me over really quickly he agreed. Not sure what I was going to be paying for, the customer service? Because I was seen for a total of less than five minutes, but hey, they wanted those credit card digits so they could charge me for what I already knew I had, and to write the prescription. The only good thing about this is they can send your prescriptions over to the CVS that's 24 hours and you can get your meds and go home. It's funny, when I first started this review I started at four stars and then after putting it into words of how much of a hassle it was on me while I wasn't feeling my best and realizing they were trying to take advantage of me; I had to knock it down to two stars. read more

Apparently MedExpress no longer accepts secondary insurance, even if it's Medicare/Medicaid. They force you to pay your copay yourself. UPMC Urgent Care directly across the street does take secondary insurance. Edit: not sure why they're saying they take secondary insurance below. My primary has a $50 copay, which is always billed to my secondary, which pays the copay for me. I've never had an issue with any place doing it that way until MedExpress, who told me their policy is that I have to pay the copay and that they will not bill my secondary insurance due to corporate policy. This was a stellar experience, one that was so far above many urgent care centers I have ever been to before. This was my first ever visit with any Med Express Urgent Care Center. Because we ate in the COVID era, as with other medical venues, you call from the parking lot to checkin. They set up a profile which only takes a few minutes then someone calls when they're ready for you to come inside. It was literally immediate turnaround at at about 8:30 am on a weekday when they opened at 8am. Once inside I sat in the waiting room no more than 2 minutes when called back to a room. Then after taking vitals, it was, again, only moments before the nurse practioner greeted me and tended to my care. This and it wasn't life and death or even an emergency, just needed a diagnosis and some meds to relieve situation. I was treated well and all, every single staff member, was cordial, efficient, but more important, they seemed to all want to be there and be of true help. I do not see that at a UPMC facility (they instead strive to be efficient but at the expense of the patient are curt, don't listen, and don't seem to care about being people-centric). What a breath of fresh air. And the place is very nice looking with the middle being the central hub enclosed in glass on all sides for waiting room checking on one side and checkout on the other. I was in and out within maybe 25 minutes and feeling satisfied they listened to me and treated my condition appropriately without my feeling rushed. read more

I'll start with why I was there, the end of my finger is smashed and looks like a hotdog left in the microwave way too long. Bone and meat exposed. Mobile check-in is the worst, didn't receive confirmation for 45 minutes, in which time my battery died. I was the ONLY one in the waiting room as the receptionist sitting directly in front of me is trying to call. Try treating people like people and not something dependant on your services. I chose letting the meat hang out of my finger over being treated by people more interested in playing grabass than acknowledging the people in need of treatment. I talked with an employee over the phone regarding a knee injury, but they ultimately told me I'd be better off going elsewhere. So I did. A month later, I get a bill of 300$ for medical services rendered by a "doctor" I didn't even know existed. Somehow they even took my vitals without me ever stepping foot in the building! (The supposed basis for the charge) I didn't realize they could detect my temperature and heart-rate through the phone!! Seriously, never come here. What an insanely unethical practice. read more

I got a tick bite with the little guy being lodged in me and had to get it out with tweezers. I was worried about it since they can cause lime disease, so I headed to med express on Baum Blvd to see a doctor on a Sunday. I was waiting for an hour and a half, so it seemed not so much of an express visit. The doctor I saw was Donna Harrison, who looked at my wound and told me, "the only thing we can do is give you an anti-biotic, I will be right back." She flew out the door and I had to keep waiting. I had many more questions that I wanted answers to about Ticks and Lime Disease, but she was so brief with me that it didn't seem like she would help, or answer me. She did not go over how to treat the wound to make sure it would heal properly for starters. She did not tell me what to look for after I left as far as warning signs for lime disease. Would I have pain, inflammation? When I tried to ask her questions she said, "you will get a pamphlet with anything you would ever want to know about ticks." Now, I waited 1 and a half hours to see this person and she can't give me at the minimum 15 minutes to answer my questions!??! Did I ever get that pamphlet? There was a short three page write out that they gave me. I have had other doctors look at me at this location and they all did great jobs, but this lady did not do a good job. In fact, she made me not want to return for anything here at this location. read more

As far as Urgent Cares go, this location is great. It benefits from being a newer building, but the waiting room is large, everything is really clean, and the staff is very friendly. I've been here two times and both times were pleasant experiences...well, at least as pleasant as an experience can be when you're sick. The first trip went really smooth. It was a slower night and we were in and out quickly. The last time we were there, though, took forever. In the midst of this flu season, you might be waiting for a while. Every room was taken and they only had one Doctor on staff to handle all of the patients. Luckily, everyone there was nice and a pleasure to deal with, so spending an hour there wasn't as frustrating as it could've been. The only downside was that we were there so long that by the time we left, all of the pharmacies were closed and I couldn't get my prescription for the flu meds. Grrr. Regardless, if you need a place to go for immediate medical attention that isn't life-threatening, I'd definitely recommend this particular MedExpress. read more

Needed to do a pre-employment drug screen. Called this afternoon to find out if I needed an appointment. I was told, "try to come in by 7pm in case you get bladder shy - that gives you some time because we close at 8pm." I was never told that 7pm was a cut off and they would not administer the test after 7pm. I arrived at 7:21pm and was told they would not do it. Terrible customer service, especially when the woman was standing there that talked to me and denied what she said to me. Skip it and pick another location if you need this service. UPDATE: I called their corporate headquarters in the morning and the assured me that the screen should have been administered. Came back to give my sample and the front desk staff was nice as pie. I was greeted and everything... 360 degree from last night. read more

My experience here was terrible and I'll never set foot into another MedExpress. Prior to attempting to be seen I looked up any covid protocols etc on the website. They said nothing about needing to wait outside in your car, so being that I live right at the end of the block in the Albion I walked up. I saw the sign on the door, but figured since I was already there I'd try to talk to someone inside. Once inside instead of any kind of greeting or help I was only rudely asked by the older lady with brown hair and glasses at the front desk if anyone had called me. I said no, and tried to explain that I didn't have a car outside to wait in. First she said "that wasn't what I asked you" so I repeated the first part she clearly missed, which was no. She then told me I needed to go outside to call and register. I went outside and called, of course the same rude lady at the desk answered the phone. Before even asking the purpose for my visit or anything she says "just so you know there's a 2 hour wait." I told her that was fine, I live down the block I can go home and come back. In response to that she tried to send me to another location on Freeport Rd. I don't have a car, and I don't want to travel that far on my day off. I declined her suggestion and said that I didn't mind waiting. She then told me "well you have to come right back when we call you" Again, I live in the Albion literally a block away, I said I didn't mind, and she hung up on me!! I only came in because I needed a physical, something I had gotten from another MedExpress location right before covid with no issue. I understand the pandemic is stressful but why be so rude? I'm well aware there are new procedures in place but most people aren't regulars at the urgent care clinic so a little less attitude and a little more understanding would've gone a long way. I feel bad for those who are actually in distress or have to go out of their way to come here. Very tacky and unprofessional. Went to the UPMC across the street instead. Still ended up waiting close to 2 hours but I actually got seen and the people were pleasant and didn't hang up on me. They also, had a semi full waiting room and a bunch of folks in the cars waiting to be seen. There's no excuse. Healthcare is a rough field especially in our given state of the world however healthcare is centered around compassion and the people working the front lines of the establishment have none of that. Shame on her. Never again. TLDR: If you see a heavy set, older, white lady with long brown hair and glasses at the front desk just leave and go across the street. read more

I agree with Haley W. DO NOT GO! I don't care if you arm is falling off! My situation wasn't as severe, but I went in and they told me I just had a common cold, when I actually had bronchitis. I ended up losing my voice for days. What really kills me is they were rude. It was if they were put off that I would come in for the common cold. The topper, after I paid a $40.00 copay I get a ill in the mail for another $35.00. I called and asked what the bill was for and they informed me there's an addition payment for being seen there. I argued that is exactly what a copay is! and asked to speak to the manager. I ended up calling about six times in all. She never answered nor returned my call. I paid the bill, because my boyfriend thought it would be a good idea, and didn't hold a protest in front of that GD place, because he, also, didn't think it would be a good idea. But I still harbor ill will, if you can't tell. read more

.not too bad. I had an ear ache & a 10 day cold that wouldn't leave me.. and i was in tears. I only waited in the waiting area for 15 minutes. The nurse helped me then the doctor. She ran a strept test and confirmed the ear infection. I left with an antibiotic and she suggested pain reliever for my ear. They asked if I wanted it filled there for $15. I knew It was cheaper at my pharmacy but it was nice to offer. Anyways not too bad of an experience. I was a cry baby and in pain. I was in and out in under 40 minutes on a Saturday evening so that's cool. read more

When you wake up one morning and your lips look like Mick Jagger mated with Angelina Jolie and your eye is swollen and itchy, you most definitely think "Urgent." I headed out to Urgent Care after one such occasion and stopped first at the UPMC Urgent Care across the street. I often imagine that the UPMC team comes out at noon to battle MedExpress "West Side Story"-style - dare to dream. Anyway. I entered the UPMC waiting room to find full-blown construction, complete with chainsaws, etc., taking place amongst the patients. After waiting 30 minutes without being registered AND being handed back an ID and credit card that were not mine, I decided to leave. So, across the street I went to MedExpress, where I was greeted by a pleasantly silent and empty waiting room. The receptionist met me with a smile and I was in with the doctor in under 20 MINUTES. She was professional, knowledgeable and I walked out of there with a swollen smile, but a smile nonetheless. I'll never go anywhere else. read more

In lieu of waiting 8 hours in an emergency room I decided to try my luck at this emergent care facility. I am so happy that I did. The wait was minimal and the associates were not crazy, mean, or apathetic. I never did actually get to see the doctor, but the physician's assistant was very attentive to everything I said. I already knew what my issue was and knew the course of action that had to be taken to get the desired results; I think my forthright plan of action, full disclosure of history, and detailed descriptions of the current situation were things none of them were used to. The surprised looks on their faces said as such. Overall it was a good experience and I would definitely return here over an emergency room if the situation dictated. I hope more people will use these facilities rather than go to emergency rooms for non-emergency issues and stop clogging them up. read more

The doctors here don't know what they're doing. I have a serious fracture which I've since been diagnosed for by the ER. Med express had me leave there saying it was just a sprain and did not offer me a splint or anything initially. After I asked about it the doctor said, "I guess you can have this if you want" handing me a small finger splint and not advising me how to correctly wear it. Come to find out from the ER that splint further damaged my fracture because they should have given me a full immobilizing hand/wrist splint. They don't know what they're doing here and because of their recklessness and complete lack of knowledge, my injury has gotten significantly worse and the ER doctor is now determining if I'll need surgery. I will never trust my health to incompetent med express again! read more

I went in today and was told the wait would be 2-3 hours, so I sat down in the waiting room. After 2 hours, I asked if I could be updated on when I would be seen. The person at the desk said that I had been taken off the waiting list after I didn't answer my phone when they called me. No one called me. They offered to put me at the bottom of the waiting list again. My tonsillitis hurt too bad to wait 2 more hours. They didn't even apologize. It's not my fault they didn't call the right phone number. Awful service. read more

I've been to MedExpress a few times over the past year for a variety of issues, strep throat, blood poisoning from infected piercing, pneumonia, dog bite, etc. and each time the staff is quick and direct-just what I want from an Urgent Care facility. My copay is always reasonable and I don't have a PCP in Pittsburgh, but will be looking for one soon, because MedExpress always addresses my illness or discomfort reasonably and quick. Sometimes the wait can be a little long but I've never sat in the waiting room for more than 25 minutes, and they always have the TV on and some magazines to look through, but I bring my own book. Compared to some doctors' offices or the ER 25 minutes is a relief. Not to mention the waiting room is pretty relaxing, no tacky colors, odd paintings, or dim lights. It's bright, spacious, and relaxing for the most part. Doctors and nurses are always sweet and comforting, always address any questions I have, and are courteous. There's a reason I always come back! I read some other reviews that were negative so maybe it's a hit or miss with the staff, but the one's that see me have always been a hit! If you need to be seen quickly or have questions/concerns about your health I would say stop in and give them a shot! read more

I don't usually write bad reviews, and I am totally aware times are difficult right now but that's exactly why I am writing this review. I was proactive in calling this medexpress the day prior to me going in, just to make sure it was okay that I did and to see what the procedures were for them. I work in healthcare and I understand things are different than normal. I explained to the woman I spoke to that I would like to come in for a severe burn and I just needed someone to look at it etc. It was a burn that happened several days prior and I was concerned by the 3rd degree blisters. The lady told me I would have to call prior to entering the building and to wear a mask, she also told me appointments were not necessary. I arrived at the facility the next day and called, the person I then spoke to told me they do not really treat burns and would refer me out for any care for that. She also explained that because they are a COVID19 testing facility there was a 1.5hr wait. I was shocked. She told me it would be best to go to another location to receive care if that wait was too long. Obviously this is upsetting to me because if I was told ANY of that information when I first called I would not have even gone there. I wasted $50 on an Uber there and back...I was not seen and I still have a severe burn on my foot. Lol read more

The word 'urgent' should not be in their name... those nurses in there don't seem like they're in a hurry to do anything, just taking their sweet ass time, chit-chatting away. The wait time was over an hour and a half just for a lady to come in and tell me I'm dehydrated. They told me they would hook me up to IV fluids. They took me into a small room with a gurney that seemed to have an inflatable mattress on it. The nurse seemed inexperienced and difficulty finding a vein to put in a simple IV! After the nurse left, I found that my arm started to develop a huge lump where the needle was inserted!!! That's definitely not normal. There was no panic button or anything to alert to nurse, I had to yell. Finally the nurse came in and took the IV out. I ended up just leaving after that and going to the emergency room up the street. Save yourself the time and just head to the emergency room if you truly need URGENT care. The doctors over there will take good care of you and won't mess up a simple IV. read more

I sprained my ankel today , 9/23/2020 , the ENTIRE staff was super professional, they treated me like I never been treated at a hospital, and I was in and out within one hour , Amazing!!! Those Professionals , (all of them) need a pay raise , extra vacations, or something to show appreciation for their dedicated work and the Quality treatment they provide, dont know about all their shifts, but the people that worked at 7pm are excellent, on 9/23/2020 , will never go to the emergency room again read more

DO NOT GO. You couldn't pay me to return here. Went in with swollen eye and floaters, "doctor" told me it was pink eye and sent me home with eye drops. Week passes, gets worse, so I return. Doctor says, "well, I just don't know". Go to see a specialist, turns out I had an infection that is jeapordizing my eyesight, and because of their inability to diagnose or refer me to a specialist, I no longer have vision in my right eye. This place is awesome. I have no primary care physician because I don't really have any ongoing medical problems, so I have come here a couple times. Last time I was here, I dropped my car keys down a sewer grate in the parking lot. I was freaking out because I had to get to work, and was about to call AAA. One of the guys working there stopped me and instead fashioned a fishing rod out of a hockey stick, a jet-ski cord, and some medical tape, and rescued my keys. It was pretty impressive. Some of the employees I've encountered at reception here look like they should be on suicide watch, though. The doctor I've seen is super friendly, understanding, and quick, and you can get many common prescriptions on site. Plus they are open 7 days a week, 9am-9pm and it's way, way cheaper and faster than an ER visit. read more

Reviewing for Nurse Christy. I came in for a Covid Rapid Test today and she swabbed my nose so aggressively that it bled. When I asked Christy why it was necessary for her to execute with such brute force for an oddly long period, she curtly responded that she was simply following the CDC guidelines (which actually states "rotate swab up to 5 times and hold in place 5-10 seconds to collect sample" when she EXCEEDED 5 times and DID NOT hold the swab still for 5-10 seconds). She then proceeded to slam the door on me. I normally don't make a fuss, but this was 8:49am, so Christy was not even an hour into her shift to kindly overlook it as a "long day" behavior, but rather she either hates her job or patients of color. Everyone else, including the triage staff and the head nurse, were so so nice. Don't frame me as a Karen who calls the manager on everyone because Christy's demeanor today was undeniably rude, unprofessional, and potentially discriminatory. read more

Having a respiratory and sinus problem since January, I decided to try MedExpress in Bloomfield. I was checked in quickly and seen by a nurse and doctor quickly. I was in and out under 30 minutes which included an x-ray which they put on a disc to give to my doctor. I also got what I think is the appropriate antibiotic. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this clinic. read more

Waste of time. Came in with a respiratory infection and they took a look and didn't do anything to help. Didn't prescribe antibiotics but just gave the "come back in a week" story. Then they sent my bill to the wrong address, didn't bother to call when my bill was overdue and send my overdue bill to a collection agency, which screwed up my credit at the moment I was trying to get a mortgage. Do yourself a favor, don't ever go to MedExpress. read more

There wasn't anything "urgent" about my care here. I usually go to UPMC Urgent Care, but came here because it opened an hour earlier at 8, but I wasn't seen by a physician until 9:30. At 9:15 I considered leaving the exam room, asking for a refund and going across the street to Urgent Care, which I have experienced is much quicker. Instead I just opened my door and watched the nothingness happening outside of my room. I'll go with a pros and cons on this review: Pros: I was checked in the moment I walked in. Love It Or List It (a popular show on HGTV) was playing in the waiting room, which also had ample seating. They took my insurance and copayment within a few minutes of being checked in. Cons: There were no computers in the exam rooms, the nurse wrote down all of my vitals and information. I was not asked ONCE if I had an allergy to medication (I do). When I went to check out there were two staff members walking around behind the counter, not even acknowledging me for a full two minutes. I was given a prescription instead of them sending it to my preferred pharmacy for pick up. If you have to go here over UPMC Urgent Care because of insurance or cost, it will be fine. Otherwise, go to to UPMC Urgent Care. read more

The worst. Zero stars. I went in with a bad cold and wanted to make sure it wasn't bronchitis or walking pneumonia. I am a paramedic and listened to my own lung sounds before to see if I heard anything abnormal, which I did. The PA-C, Megan, listened two my upper back lung fields and one upper front lung field then said everything looks fine and sent me on my way. Total waste of time. If you're not going to do a full assessment, you should not be caring for patients. read more

I believe they should brainstorm to come up with a new name. There is nothing urgent about this place. Express? I think not. There was a young gentleman who came in 30 minutes after me with a sore throat (less significant of an issue than what I needed to be seen for). He got placed into the adjacent room, was seen by the doctor and out the door before I was seen by anyone. With the improvements in ER processes, they need to act accordingly. These triage facilities will be out of business in no time! read more

I understand that the pandemic has been hard on medical personnel. However, this goes beyond that. I was at this med express for a total of 4 hours. First, I was not told that there would likely be a 2 hour wait before a triage nurse called me. 1.5 hours later after waiting in the parking lot, I called to ask about wait times. The woman was very rude and would not listen to me. Then, when I was called by the triage nurse, it was apparent that nobody else would listen to me either. I already had a negative covid result and they did not want to check me for anything else. At one point someone hung the phone up on me while I was trying to explain this. Three times I had to tell different personnel that I would like to talk about the possibility of an infection or the flu (I'm aware that covid is real and bad, I did want to get tested but also wanted someone to consider other possibilities due to my negative result). Finally the doctor came in and he was great. He listened to me and checked me for other possibilities. It wasn't until I left that I realized my summary and after care instructions were incomplete and my prescription was sent half an hour away. I left in tears 4 hours after I arrived. read more

Have a finger infection. Note the present tense. Went in and everybody was friendly and such. They soaked my hand in warm water with some solution and prescribe some antibiotics. Once week later, my finger is no better (though no worse) and I get a bill in the mail for $150+ dollars. I saw the doctor for 10 min total! Called to ask why the bill was so high and why they did not bill my insurance company. Normal run around telling me that this was the discount, should have been $500! Note, I paid for the antibiotics separate and have BC/BS insurance. This is the second time (first was different location) that I have received an extremely high bill from them for a very basic service. I will not be going back, I cant afford it. read more

I came today to get a TB test read, even though I had the TB test performed at a different MedExpress in Pittsburgh. I called beforehand to ask if I would be able to get it read at a different location, and they said it would be no problem, and would just have to fax the paperwork over. When I came to this location, I was immediately greeted with an eyeroll and a nice dose of attitude by the check in receptionist. I was told that because I was going to get it read at a different location, I would have to repay the initial cost of $36, which I was not happy to hear. The receptionist took my paper and ID before calling me back up and saying " So you have the tell the other location to fax over your papers. You can google their number and call them". I looked at her like she was kidding, but unfortunately she was serious. I may be mistaken.. but isn't that YOUR job? I am SURE you have the numbers of the other MedExpress locations readily available, and I shouldn't have to do YOUR work for you. Overall she was very rude and I ended up leaving and ubering to the other location in Brentwood, where they were much nicer. I would NOT recommend the Shadyside location and if I was actually ill, I would've felt even worse after this experience. I will never be returning. read more

Although my total wait time from waiting room to being seen was 2.5 hrs. It was better than waiting in an emergency room. The staff was upbeat and friendly. It can be difficult dealing with the walking dead. I really do need to find a PCP! read more
