3 dogs, 3 cats. Have loved all of the doctors and vet techs at banfield medfield. They have always had best interest of our pets, they don't runs tests that aren't necessary. They explain options clearly. They spend time answering questions. Never feel rushed and very efficient check in and check out process. My pets are always a little nervous but do well with the techs and doctors and I think pets are the best judge of character. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE. I made an appointment for my dog as a new patient; when I arrived they said they didn't have his appointment in the system (blamed it on the switch to a Banfield hospital). Then they transferred me 3x - each time I had to explain again that it was his first visit. The last person actually said to me, "He needs to be seen if he needs a refill on Heartguard and Nextguard" ?!?! WHY did she think I was sitting in the parking lot with my dog?!?! If they can't get the basics of an appointment correct, I certainly don't trust them with our dog. read more

They didn't honor our appointment. They said they had a walk in emergency and were not willing to stay even 10 minutes past close to see my sick dog who had an appointment. This was a homeless cat when I found him and brought him into the veterinary clinic. He was treated gently and the atmosphere made him feel comfortable. He was given the standard tests and also a pill to get rid of stomach worms. I'm giving this review 3/5 stars because the lead veterinarian suggested the cat could be put to sleep given he tested positive for FIV. This is a disease that is the human equivalent of HIV; however, it only effects cats and cannot be transmitted to other animals or humans. It would require a deep bite wound to transmit. I have one other cat who is a girl cat who was also homeless when I brought her in that I've had for 4 years. I've kept the cats completely separated for the 6 months I've had the cat pictured, but I was lucky to do my own research about FIV and found case study's have found it is generally not transmitted among groups of cats and cats are generally safe among FIV cats; otherwise I would have sought to give the cat up to another foster care-giver while informing them of the condition. The cat is full of love, wisdom, and life. He was quiet and kind from the time I brought him in, but also incredibly strong for a cat. He had one bad incident during times when I was moving in tandem from different living locations and he was frequently in and out of a carrying case. FIV however does not effect moods, just the health of the immune system. He has been a wonderful cat and had a positive effect on my life. I suggest that the veterinarians do additional research on this topic and look for alternative solutions that can be met to cats under this condition. It would have been in hindsight an incredibly sad loss. This cat most certainly deserved a home and a full life. read more

Staff is consistently cold and rude. When asked why we were there I responded' Because you asked us to come in". The girl on the phones snapped back, "I'll just tell the doctor you didn't want to tell me". They delayed a cyst removal for two months so they could align it with a tooth extraction for their convenience. The cyst grew to the size of a ping pong ball. Our cat was miserable for that time. This place used to be great. What happened? We are moving on to another vet. read more

After nearly 14 years with our beloved family dog, all of which he has gone to this facility even before it was a Banfield location, we sadly had to let him go this week. Within 24 hours this location started calling to collect payment without so much as a sorry for your loss. I truly hope this is a clerical oversight and that the people calling don't realize that this was end of life care. In that 'best case' scenario you are clearly not doing this job well and carelessness like that is unacceptable. If this is the policy then that's horrendous. Truly jarring and it keeps retriggering my mother who has requested that a bill be sent by email or mail. We are reeling from the loss and we have ALWAYS paid on time and in full. You have our email information and our address and you have absolutely no reason to think we would not pay in time. Truly sad that we've been moved to this stage but after three voicemails left in about 48 hours, it has to be done. Can safely say we will NEVER recommend this clinic to anyone in future. read more

We have been bringing our pets, all six of them, to Medfield Veterinary Clinic for over 10 years. Our 11 year old Springer spaniel tore his CCL and Tufts is recommending surgery, which would require 8 week recovery. When I called Medfield Vet to speak with a doctor for a second opinion I was rudely told by the receptionist to just do what Tufts recommends. I think it's time to find a new clinic who understands how important our fur babies are to us. read more

What can i say.. This place is so wonderful. The staff is great the doctors are great.. and the services are great. My family has lots of animals so we're kind of always in there... so the staff really get's to know you and really does seem to care about your pets.. The one thing that i can think of that made this place so great was when my dog Nikki was dying they helped out. Meaning.. It was 9pm at night on a Sunday.. We had one of 2 options take her to the emergency clinic or call the owner Dr. Crowell. He was more than gracious of taking time from his family and helping us with our pup. Dr. Crowell made sure that our Nikki was comfortable and let us spend some time with her. He did what he did and that was that.. He was very compassionate and caring. So all in all i totally recommend this place. The service is very personable unlike those company run places read more

We love Medfield Veterinary Clinic - as does our 4-year-old cat, Peanut. We adopted her from the Paws of Plainville cat shelter in October. Everyone who visited thought Peanut was cute, but nobody wanted to adopt her because she had cryptococcosis and needed meds. The folks at the cat shelter took Peanut to Dr. Crowell at MVC before we'd even "met" her, and Dr. Crowell saved her life. We continued to give her meds for the first few months, until she was cured. Around the same time she needed 8 teeth pulled (they'd been neglected since long before we got Peanut) for which we again brought her to Dr. C. That went as smoothly as a teeth-pulling could have gone, and Dr. C. did a great job of following up and of answering our questions, as he always does in-person. Dr. Crowell is the man. A very healthy and happy Peanut and her humans (my fiancée and I) trust everyone at MVC. read more

This is primarily a review of the vet herself, Dr. Sandy Higgins, new here since March 2016. I followed here (as a client) when she moved from another vet clinic in Roxbury MA. And cannot speak more highly of her. Over a 12-year period she doctored 3 cats and 2 dogs for me (not all at once). Always listening, always paying attention to the critters. From sitting in the waiting room, it seems that numerous of her clients have followed her here (she spends time at Westwood Vet and at Medfield Vet, both under common ownership). This place used to be wonderful when it was an independent clinic -- before it was taken over by the big box Banfield chain. The doctors have always been wonderful, but are no longer in charge since the buy-out. Instead of a friendly, responsive experience of a small town vet in a small town, it's become horrible, unfriendly, alienating, impersonal, rude, and all about the business -- but doing business poorly. The phones don't get answered, messages don't get returned, and the customer service has become atrocious. They made a billing error that became an absolute nightmare to correct -- impossible to reach anybody on the phone, poor turnaround time on response, and an attitude that there could never be an administrative error at their end. Instead of a simple fix of looking up a record and correcting it, the situation required calls with somebody at a faraway the corporate parent office -- and without any solution. It was like dealing with the Soviet bureaucracy. And despite the fact that the mistake had been at their end, they refused even to do prescription renewals for an arthritic elderly dog who's been a patient since he was a puppy (one of the many dogs we have had and taken to this practice over the years). Wow! What a shameful way to treat good, loyal customers! I mentioned this to one of the veterinarians -- that I had had a series of horrible encounters with the "practice manager" who was a very rude, unresponsive, and obnoxious woman and told him I would fire anybody who worked for me who behaved that way, he told me sadly "I'm not her boss so I can't." From what I have heard around town, we're not the only ones who feel this way -- and lots of customers have been moving their business to other veterinary practices -- and employee turnover at Banfield has also been an issue because of the place it has become. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! I have been bringing my dogs to this practice since 2007, since I moved to Medfield. My feelings are very mixed about the practice, as there used to be a great vet that we absolutely loved by the name of Dr. Jessica Young. It just has not been the same, since she left. Perhaps, we were not transitioned to a good new match- after she left. But, we cannot help but feel that the practice has been run inadequately for the last 3-4 years. It seems to be mismanaged buy a bunch of rude 20 something year old's at the front desk- who do not have the proper vocabulary and tone to handle phone calls. You would think that they are busy and successful enough to invest in staff that have the quality and level of customer service to represent the practice appropriately. The owner of the practice-Dr. Richard Crowell has never remembered any of our dogs- Even though we have been clients of the practice for almost 10 years now. Dr. Kurk- had informed us that he does not care for Siberian Huskies. We have had 3...So, if you have a Siberian Husky- Make sure you do not see him. If it wasn't for the fabulous Vet Techs that he has and of course Dr. Shields. He would lose a lot of clients. I hope he realizes that!!! Sure- he's a more then capable vet. But, lacks the care, that most clients find comfort with. The last straw for us- was this week when we had made a grooming appointment and they lost our appointment and did not even try to rectify the mishap. They were accusatory and tried to make us feel like we were lying about it. They did not offer to try to accommodate another time or day. Just...too bad, so sad- and Meghan who works there. Hung up on me 3 times- as I was trying to figure out another solution. As, my poor 16 year old dog- really needed to be groomed and have his nails clipped- because of the heat. I asked for the doctors email, so that I could email him my concerns about the treatment we encountered from his staff member (Meghan) and the unfortunate way that she chose to handle the situation.... I thought the owner of the practice would want to know.... . The next day- we received a packet in our mailbox that had been hand delivered - with a note from the practice owner stating that he was sorry- that we were having so much trouble with his staff member, but that we should find another practice. This is the only Vet practice in town and I think the level of Customer Service has diminished significantly enough for me to voice my concerns- without the back lash and poor treatment that we received this week. I think they better step it up- or they are going to realize people will stop putting up with it and drive the extra miles to go to another practice. My advice to you- If you are looking for a long term practice- One where you will be treated like the customer and with the respect that you deserve- for the money that you are willing to pay for your cherished and loved pets!!! The best veterinary practice in the area. I travel from Norwood to go there although there are several places closer to me. I usually see Dr Shields who is amazing. Besides being a top notch vet she is so kind & caring & always goes above & beyond. The techs are wonderful as well. I really cannot recommend them highly enough. This is a review of Banfield Hospital in MEDFIELD, MA. I have a long-haired Birman with severe psychological issues due to her first owner severely abusing her. Once a year, her coat becomes matted. I love Skylar, but due to her PTSD from past abuse, she can't be handled. For the first few years, I tried taking her to groomers but each one rejected her due to her violent nature. Skylar gets scared easily. When she gets scared, she becomes violent and therefore needs to be sedated for any treatment. When Skylar's coat becomes matted, she needs a medical shave under sedation. Only a vet can do this. Groomers don't sedate, only veterinarians. Not only was Skylar's coat matted again this year (2021), she stopped grooming herself causing urine crust around her privates putting her at risk for a possible deadly urinary tract infection. I called Banfield for help. They told me, 'we don't do grooming'. I said, 'I understand that you are not groomers but no groomer will touch my cat as she needs to be sedated for a medical shave under sedation which only a vet can do.' 'We don't do grooming', was again the response. 'Do you shave a cat when they need a spay', I asked. 'Yes', Banfield replied. 'Then you can medically shave my cat. Please understand, no groomer will touch my cat. She has severe PTSD due to past abuse and has to be sedated for any medical appointment and that includes a shaving. She has also stopped grooming herself and is in imminent danger of a urinary tract infection which can cause death'. 'We don't do grooming', is all I got. Skylar's coat had become matted and she stopped grooming herself. This caused a massive urine crust around her private parts which can cause a urinary tract infection. UTIs are deadly. A uti killed Grumpy Cat. I explained this over and over to Banfield and they only insisted that even though they do medical shaving, they would not 'groom' my cat even though it meant possibly saving her life. I am disgusted with Banfield. Shame on them for not taking in my cat for a medical shave, which they can do as they shave cats for spaying, in order to save my cat's life. Shame on you, Banfield. I will never request your services again. You can absolutely shave my cat to save her life. It is unreal to me that you refuse to do so. If you can shave for a spaying, you can sedate and shave my PTSD cat to save her life. If no groomer will help my cat, what am I supposed to do? This is a job for a veterinarian and it is beyond belief that Banfield in Medfield refused to help my cat. read more

Medfield Veterinary clinic is OUTSTANDING! The staff is friendly and helpful and genuinely care about the pets entrusted in their care. I had adopted a shelter cat that nearly died twice and Dr. Crowell saved her life on both occasions. They offer house calls for pets that are difficult to bring in to the clinic, like my goats and my cat that turns feral when at the vet. I can not say enough about this fantastic Vet service they are head and shoulders above the rest and in my opinion THE BEST!!! read more

Find another vet and avoid this one if you can. I brought my yorkie in when he was having diarrhea for a week with no improvement. They prescribed a drug that killed him. When I brought him in immediately when he was having a reaction to the drug and I stated my concerns that he was having a bad reaction from it, the vet immediately dismissed and denied that could be a possibility and asked me - in front of the entire waiting room AND MY TWO TODDLERS- if he had gotten into any drugs like marijuana. They couldn't do anything and sent me to tufts where the vets there believed it to be cerebellum degeneration (many documented cases of this being caused by the drug medfield vets gave him) and we had to put him down. He was not even 3 years old. Fast forward to today, i have a new yorkie. Almost one year old having the same diarrhea problem as my first yorkie. My new vet prescribed a probiotic and we are back to normal. Stay away from medfield vet. They dont care about your pets, they ignore your concerns and they only care about money. read more

The wonderful staff at Medfield Veterinary Clinic, especially Dr. Shields, have been amazing during our dog's illness and ultimate passing. Dr. Shields always showed the utmost dedication to our dog as her patient and worked tirelessly to restore his health. When our dog's condition required advanced treatment, she was in constant communication with the veterinarians at Tufts VETS. Dr. Shields was also constantly in communication with us about test results, possible treatments, and even just to check in. She was knowledgeable about the various treatment options and willing to take the time to explain our options to us. When our dog stopped responding to treatments, she reached out to specialists at Tufts again to discuss any further measures that could be taken. She went above and beyond to make our dog as comfortable as possible at the end of his life and was there with us when we ultimately had to put him down. Our dog had a largely pain-free last year and a half of his life thanks to her advocacy and dedication. Our personal experience was reinforced by everyone we spoke with at Tufts and Medfield - her colleagues have the utmost respect her. We thank Dr. Shields sincerely for guiding us during this difficult time. read more

While this clinic is clean and most of the people are nice, the two times I've been there were traumatizing. I brought my cat there after she had been losing weight rapidly. I'm in my early twenties and was alone and the doctor tried to have me put her down on the spot. I left in tears explaining that I had to talk to my dad and they were cold and mechanical rather than understanding in my difficult time. After that awkward and horrible visit my family and I decided, after a few days to say goodbye, it was time to have her put down. They told us we could stay in the room. Without giving the traumatic details, I watched my childhood companion pass out only to come back to again and be given another shot. They never asked us to leave the room or attempt to explain what happened. I will be finding a new vet for my pets and hope others have better experiences if they choose this one. read more

The MVC treats animals as if they are their own. I want to specifically point out Dr. Hopkins. Shes spends the time to medically explain any scenario. We adopted our dog Callie and have had various issues come up over the past year. Hopkins has worked through all of these issues and even follows up with phone calls days after we visit. Additionally, we originally used another local vet and felt it was more about the business/money. At MVC, its like a family and they really care about helping animals and it shows! Today my beloved Jasmine was put to sleep. She was a wonderful 18 year old gorgeous cat who I loved with all my heart. I am new to the area and I was lucky enough to find this clinic and meet Dr. Kelly Summerhayes. She was so comforting, kind, helpful and patient. Her compassion overwhelmed me. Jasmine was very sick but making the decision of letting her go was very hard. I had no pressure at all to make up my mind. Dr. Kelly let me take my time. Call my husband. She allowed me to think it through. She put Jasmine in a little bed and wrapped her in a blanket. Despite my sorrow, I know that Jazzy went comfortable and surrounded with love and kindness. I will never forget how I was treated and how my sweetheart was treated. Thank you Dr. Summerhayes for helping my cat and me to make the right decision without thinking of money or the business first. We also followed our vet, Dr. Sandy Higgins, from her prior practice in West Roxbury in March of 2016. We foster and have had many pugs and recently two cats who she has been treating for the past 5 years or so. She is so easy to communicate with, is very conservative, and cares very deeply about her patients and their owners. We recently adopted a pug puppy from Pug Rescue of NE, with Mega Esophagus, a disorder which requires that she be hand fed and held up for at least 30 minutes after eating. We just had her spayed today and Dr. Higgins went out of her way prior to the procedure to find the best protocol for her and then held her up herself after the procedure! She even sent several photos to me so that I could see how well she is doing. I can't say enough about how good she is. read more

I am thankful that the doctors at medfield vet were able to surgically remove my dog's stage 1 mast cell tumor that I luckily found early when looking for ticks on my dog. But that is all I'm thankful for. I have been going back and forth on whether or not to leave a review but i feel like it is my responsibility to say something for all of the pets out there. While the staff at medfield vet may mean well and care for the dogs, they really are contributing to the disease and sickness of our animals by continuing to recommend and actually vaccinate sick, unhealthy animals (the vile states only vaccinate healthy animals and it's been proven that over-vaccination is linked to cancer and other diseases) yearly. They are supposed to be the professionals and be knowledgable and recommend safe practices but yet they recommend poisons such as Frontline and HeartGard. If the pet parent actually did their own homework, they would understand that these products are not "prevention" but they are actually toxic chemicals that kill fleas and ticks and mosquitos and the baby stage of heartworm before it can ever mature into an adult worm. These products also are not 100% effective and are becoming less effective as time goes on, and it's doing harm to the animals because it is not safe. The biggest reason I left this vet was because they could not figure out my dog's gut issues and gave me no answers. Not even Tufts University specialists could figure it out. I was extremely disappointed that I was basically on my own and had to walk away otherwise my dog would continue to get even sicker. All Medfield Vet ever did was prescribe drugs to bandaid my dogs problems. They did not once ever try to get to the root of the issue. They just said she had GI issues and that it's tricky to figure out. I spent THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS here. I get that they are nice people but I do not trust them and to me, being nice and a good person is not an excuse for having basically ZERO knowledge about caring for animals. Conventional veterinary medicine (what Medfield Vet practices) is to blame for our dogs coming down with diseases like cancer. Yes I get that cancer can be genetic but 95% of it is lifestyle choices such as the diet you feed your dog or cat, do you over-vaccinate or do titer tests, do you use chemicals and pesticides on your animal to "prevent" fleas/ticks/mosquitos or do you use safer, natural methods. You the pet parents would be SHOCKED if you knew how CORRUPT the veterinary profession and Big Pharma is. They give ZERO F's about your dog or cat or animal. They just want your money. Please please PLEASE do your OWN research, don't just blindly follow your vet's advice and think they are God because they are not. The people at Medfield Vet know nothing about a dog's natural diet (REAL food. Raw, fresh meat, organs and bones. Fresh fruits and veggies, which can be argued), instead they just recommend processed GARBAGE (hills, purina, royal canine) which they receive kick backs for from the companies. These processed dry dog foods are LOADED with carbs and starches which means SUGAR and sugar feeds cancer. Conventional vets, big pharma and the pet food industry CAUSE the disease and then they come out with the "Fix" (prescription foods, meds, chemo, etc..) Do yourself, your beloved pet and your wallet a huge favor, find a HOLISTIC, INTEGRATIVE, WELLNESS VET, learn about proper dog and cat nutrition. Don't you want your animals to THRIVE, not just survive? I am in no way against giving an animal drugs if it is going to save their life but SAFE and NATURAL should ALWAYS be the first option. They are so devoted, they always call to check on my dog after we've brought him in and take the time to personally return phone calls.
