Hands down the worst internet provider ever. Frequent outages, slow internet, expensive too? I try to play games on this wifi, but it's practically impossible with my game being frozen more than its not. On the website it completely lies, saying up to 1000 mbps download speeds, yet it'll take hours for simple downloads. The wifi is so bad, that I can't even have fun while playing games, its always more frustrating than anything. Absolutely the worst ISP I've ever had and easily the most unreliable. Every day for weeks we have received messages that our internet may have disruptions because "Molly" is working on it. It hasn't been every day this week but my wife is at home working and yet again has no internet and she works a 2nd job from home that requires a wired internet connection. If there was any other ISP on our street, I would turn off Mediacom without a second thought and go with them. There is a good reason they have a 1-star review. They don't deserve that much but it won't go any lower. Only 2 miles from my house, my uncle has 3 options for ISPs and he will not use Mediacom. I wish I could move my house next door to him. My kids also do homeschool and can't do their online assignments due to the constant service interruptions. We were paying a lot for internet but downgraded to the cheapest functional option recently. No sense paying that much for shoddy internet service and $6 a day or so deductions off the bill that cost my wife hundreds of dollars because she couldn't work. read more

I have used Mediacom for years probably over 20 years until last week. It all started with a house fire in July 2016 and now, in December 2021 I still have a late payment/equipment charge of over $1800.00 on my credit. I recently tried to refinance my house despite my many medical bills, what really hindered me was this outstanding bill from Mediacom. In July 2016, I had a house fire that melted or burned over 75% of my household goods to include a melted flat screen tv with a Mediacom cable box. My family just north of the county took me in and in the next week or so I called all utilities to cancel pay what I owe usually pro-rated including Mediacom. When I asked about the Modem/cable box and what I owe I was assured that I wouldn't need to worry about that as Mediacom has its own insurance for such catastrophes. My sister-in-law, who was sitting on the couch with me heard everything (speakerphone) and even asked to verify that I would not have a charge for the equipment. Again, they assured me it was covered under Mediacom's insurance. Months later I started to get a new bill for the equipment. I called to check on this and one guy said "no, you have to pay for it". I asked for a supervisor and was told that I didn't have to pay that charge. It was a mistake and they were going to clear it up. I received more bills and it even went to a collection agency. I called Mediacom and got the same lip service so I didn't know what to do. Since I recently tried to refi my house in November for a better interest rate I was not given a good rate because of this outstanding bill of almost $2000. I was very displeased and quit Mediacom right then and there. Apparently, this is common practice but no one seems to stand up to it. I have service with them. The cable TV, is always fuzziness, the orange cable wire has not be buried yet it be over 30 days. The outside co tool box tooked over 7 business days to get fixed. Repairman come to my resident to installed cable with there pants drop down on they butt, so unprofessional dress codes with their installer to customer resident. Maybe because we are newer or we had the higher data tier, but we never experienced any major issues. Only reason we switched over was due to fiber moving in to our neighborhood. Other than that (service wise) there were occasional outages due to weather (expected), nothing major to complain about. I electronically sent my payment and it was lost in comcast billing...so they then attempted to bill me for a 2nd time. I turned in the router and explained i was double billed. Said I need proof of payment. No wifi no pointer. So I snap shot where my bank sent payment and went through. Printed it out at walgreens and then went to carbondales office to show proof of billing. The girl at the counter called her boss who then requested a paper copy. Said I cannot due to no internet. So she then procede to offer me free months for my trouble. Said im done. Mediacom has not been able to provide me with a consistent and reliable landline telephone service. My phone line experiences an outage that leaves me unable to make or receive calls at least every other day. I have called Mediacom Customer Care multiple times regarding this issue, and the resolution is always the same. Not once has an agent recommended an alternative solution or forwarded me to a higher level service technician. I do not recommend this company. read more

If I could give this company negative stars I absolutely would. First, they require payment prior to service installation. Then because they have monopolized a rural area you have to wait approximately a week for an appointment. My encounter with this company has been one of the worst experiences with a cable/internet company I've ever had. We waited one week for the appointment and on the day of we were scheduled between 8am and 12pm. At 11:05 I received a call from a 1-888 number and the caller disconnected in less that 7 seconds. I called the number back and it was not a direct number to the technician but to customer service. As I am explaining to customer service, she was refreshing the screen and the technician noted that he called me, I didn't answer and he left me a voicemail. All lies. My mailbox is full. Because of the note the technician entered they put my appointment on something called a rollback. All day I called and inquired about the technician. Finally after calling back at 6 pm I was told no one was coming and wouldn't be able to come out until 4 days later. An entire day of work missed because someone wasn't being honest or doing their do diligence and job. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with customer service for them to tell me that we needed to send them back their equipment or they would take $40 from my refund?! Its a disgusting way to run a business. I hope that one day a more affordable and reliable company is available for the smaller cities. read more

I made the huge mistake of using Mediacom as my cable provider. There field asso. made a mistake by cutting off my service instead of the intended person. I immediately called Mediacom, I was informed there was no tech available to come out & fix it for 10 days. Even after speaking with Supervisor I was advised that if there is a cancellation they would move my appt up. Unacceptable. Once again this week all my services mysteriously stopped. I had no service at all. Called and was informed no available tech for 5 days. I just have no understanding as to why such a major company would make there customers go that long without any service. We've had countless amounts of trouble calls. I wish I could look at my account and tell you the exact number of times they've been out here the past year. Everytime they come, they blame it on something else, weather including heat, cold. Oh the signal was turned up too high outside. Its a node affecting the whole area. Maintenance is coming tomorrow. Call center reps have hung up on me when I start asking questions. They act like if you ask for a credit for the poor service like you are asking for their oxygen or something. Technician called dispatch while he's working in my living room with my kids in the room. He's on speakerphone so when he pulls my account up he says "oh this f___ing guy". The support staff are not in the least bit helpful and tech support take a week at best to come out and fix faulty equipment...are they flying in from Mumbai?!? Terrible service. Agree with other posters. The cable and internet go out at least once per month. And often for days at a time. It took 3 visits to get my boxes installed properly. First tech left saying that my cable would be right up in the next hour. And I didn't have HD channels for the next 4 days even though I called to complain immediately. They supposedly couldn't send a tech out to fix it until a week and half later. Then they said it wasn't them they needed a different tech to come out. Whenever I have called I spend at least 30 min on hold and usually get put back "on hold" where they hang up on me. Can wait to move out of the area so I can cancel this service. The customer service is HORRENDOUS-apparently the only cable internet provider in my neighborhood and they seem to know it. My recent experience with the technician, call associates and supervisors were all pathetic!!!! The excuses were numerous. The appointment was confirmed via text message several days prior to the scheduled window of 8-10 AM, I (where is the communication from the communication company?!?) began my communication with the company at 10:10 AM to obtain the status. Right on script, was told that the "technician is running a little behind" and will contact me when within 0:15 of the new arrival time of 10:45AM. My next call was at 10:50 (no surprise, the same scripted response), now I'm explaining to Jane, Abby and ultimately Tiffany that my primary issue is the lack of communication from the "communication" company. My recommendation is to seek out an alternative communication provide if at all possible. My next correspondence is to the public official in this area to determine when the MediCOM monopoly will end!!!! read more

Plain and simple the worst internet provider I've ever had. For starters moved in back in July 2015. They had to run some lines for the service. It took them around a month to bury the only line which was running across my driveway and now JANUARY 2016 the other line is still sitting outside waiting to be buried. Called them a week ago and setup an appointment for it to be done yesterday. Guess what it's still outside and when I called them about it they said it'll be 14-21 days. Besides that the Internet is slow and there is a data cap. We sometimes go over, but not often enough to pay for the next tier. Cannot wait to live somewhere with a different provider. Finally called to cancel my service and they said their lines were too busy and that they'd call me back. Figuring that they wouldn't call back, I called back later on in the day and cancelled my service. I tried closing my account at the end of my billing cycle but it didn't meet their 7 day notification requirements. Like other reviewers, if I could give negative stars, I would. I won't waste time speaking about their horrible customer service and frequent service interruptions, let me just tell you the really egregious things they have done. They stole my modem from my house and replaced it with their rented one. In five years, they have not been able to find my modem to return it to me. In Feb. 2017 Mediacom ran a new cable line from the pole to our house (they believed that was the cause of our frequent service interruptions), they left the cable lying on the ground and said someone would be out soon to bury the line. Now, Feb. 2018 it has been exactly 1 year and the cable line still runs across our yard and driveway, despite no less than 6 people coming out at various times, usually saying something like "we can't do that, were going to have to send someone else out." Fortunately for Mediacom, no significant injuries have resulted from their negligence (only a couple scrapped knees for my children), as I have already informed them that should that happen, I will take pleasure in suing the company, in hopes that maybe they will clean up their act. Why would we stay with Mediacom through all of this? Because they are the only provider where we currently live. However, we are so displeased with Mediacom that as we search for a new house, we have decided that should we find a house that we love, if it only has service from Mediacom, we will not move there. That is how much we are looking forward to no longer being a customer of theirs. If you have any cable choice at all, avoid this company at all costs. read more

Terrible service, especially after you have rented and paid for the equipment. The cable and internet goes out monthly. Once you try and contact them, it may take several telephone calls to speak to the right person. I spent about three hours on the telephone trying to get some help and right answers, if this is possible. I mean the right answers and right people. If you are lucky and manage to get someone from Tech Support, they may or may not be able to fix the problem over the telephone. In some cases, they make the situation worst by not knowing what they are doing. You also spend a lot of time "on hold" waiting for someone to answer the telephone; who in some cases will put you "on hold" again because they are not the right person. If they can't fix or repair the situation, then they will give you an appointment for 4-6 days later, leaving you without any television or limited television. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Mediacom has been having significant issues with providing anything that resembles reliable internet service. My issues started in early October, I was scheduled a few appointments and even had the modem changed out, that didn't do much to resolve the issue. I've complained on their social media outlets and in the forums, most often all I'd get would be stock responses about sending out a tech because there is "noise" in the line. They never explained what was causing it and finally seemed to have fixed the issue after 5 pages of complaints in their forums and daily postings of various speed test results. Well, I say seemed to have fixed it, because I had stable internet for less than a month before the issues returned. I won't even go into the "crediting my account" part much further than to say, if they credit your account one month, check the following month's bill for an outstanding balance for the previous month... The "Tech Ops" supervisor didn't even know that they had up to 1gb service in my area, sort of something the guy who supervises their entire service team should know about. Avoid this company at all costs. I'd personally like to see Mediacom on the receiving end of a class action lawsuit for false advertisement. This is a horrible company who only cares about getting paid monthly without providing the quality they purport, essentially they are the slumlords of the internet. read more

Worst cable provider ever, I had wow cable and internet for 5 years and maybe had to call them a handful of times. I have had Mediacom for 6 months and have to call at least once a week. What is really funny is they send a tech out Everytime and all techs say is service line run to apartment is too week, but they will not run a new one so just keep calling to get tech back out. When you call their automated system it takes at least 30 mins to an hr to get any info, it's like they try to wear you down so you will not call them. Hell it goes out in entire area at least once a month and when you call about that they just tell you it has been reported already and their is no time frame. Mediacom has done nothing but lie and scam and cheat us out of our money. We paid for a service with many channels only to be told after 1 year that it was a glitch in their system that allowed us to have the channels we had. After complaining the problem gets fixed but here we go again going on 2 years in. Our price went up, so now we are paying almost $150 for nothing and they have done the "glitch" explanation again. Just like other customers, if they did not service the area alone, then we would be with another company!!!! Mediacom has become a joke and they only care about taking your money!! I am so angry with them! I will be disconnecting from the cable service and only dealing with the internet service.
