I visited with a friend for a recording session so this is based solely on that. The place was easy to find, they have a sign in and sign out system in place for visitors. The studio we were in was huge, and well supplied as well as clean. The only thing is, we were there over 4 hours and there was no AC in the building. We were so hot. I'm a Music Producer (www.soundcloud.com/t_db) and Photojournalist (www.TDBolden.com) who recently relocated from the DMV (Maryland) to Dallas and I can't imagine going anywhere else to receive my Audio Engineering instruction and degree. The staff here are incredible especially Michelle (receptionist)! If I could give zero stars I would. Very unprofessional environment, messy and none of your personal business is confidential. The instructors are not to be trusted as they talk shit about you to other students and other instructors. Make sure you keep a close eye on financials because all they care about is money. Pics of the school look legit online but every student pays $30,000 & the school is run down and cheap. So where is the funding going? Apple computers? No they're all outdated. Don't be fooled by their credentials as they're shared between two campuses; Houston and Dallas. Most of them have nothing to do with the school. Sound Lab vs MediaTech, do your research. Anyone can walk down the streets of Dallas and see Erika Badu. Student films are rushed with little to no guidance. You're on your own, they throw you to the wolves. NO ONE SHOWS UP TO CLASS & you'll be sitting there waiting. The GPA was lowered to a 2.0 & a 60% is considered passing but you'll need a 2.0 in order to graduate. Why go to a school that lowers standards to benefit students that don't even show up. I was there every day on time, and had to deal with the negative effect of others. That's what I get for leaving Graduate School to be sold a dream that wasn't there. Students didn't even know the difference between there, their and they're. Let that sink in...that is the type of classroom environment you'll be surrounded by. You'll be in elementary school all over again. Acting Program is definitely a waste of money. So, this educational institution is divided into two programs. There is a sound and audio engineering program, and then there is a digital film and media program. I am strictly speaking for the digital film program. If you are genuinely interested in a career in film and media, I would highly recommend giving your money to another institution. I don't know how this institution is run today or if a lot of the same staff are still there, but what I experienced was a cesspool of unprofessional and unethical behavior. Staff would often egg on conflict between the students to the point that it felt like the school was run like a trashy reality television show. Certain staff members often made fun of current and former students behind their backs. They did this in front of other students. They would encourage the students to get in on the making fun of other students as well. A majority of the equipment in the digital film program was also very outdated. When each student is paying $25,000 to attend school there, you would think that they would have updated equipment that met the current standards of the industry. It often led me to believe that the money being spent on the school was not being used on equipment or the technology, but perhaps elsewhere in the form of personal gain and benefit for the higher-ups. At one point, an employee working there was told by the vice president to remove a Buddha statue from her office because it offended her religious views. The employee removed the statue out of fear of losing their job. This is unethical, illegal and should never be tolerated in any type of business. One of the staff members would say things like, "a lot of dreams have died in this school," and at the graduation it was informed to me by a student that the same staff member said, "I could take a giant shit on the floor and that's how much of a chance these kids have to make it in the industry after going to school here." This is the big thing. A decade ago, the school was shut down for a period of time for undisclosed reasons. Upon opening up again, they were being monitored by individuals involved in some kind of education monitoring. They handed questionnaires to every student and the staff and higher-ups in the school would encourage the students to only say nice things about their experiences at the school. The next day, after the students had conformed, they brought in cupcakes for everyone as a thank you for saying such nice things about them. That should've immediately raised a red flag. One of the individuals who worked as a teaching assistant there was one of the most unprofessional and unpleasant individuals I had ever encountered. He would berate and belittle the students, talk to them in very demeaning and bullying manners, and if you confronted him about it and told him he was being unprofessional, he would say things like, "if you don't like the way I am, deal with it." At one point, he had even directly threatened to make my time in that school a living hell. Granted, that staff member is no longer with the school, his departure was not related to his horrible treatment of students. The fact that his unprofessional treatment of students was left unchecked is really sad. He was just allowed to treat them horribly and demean them. Staff was aware of what his behavior was like, but did nothing at all about it. To sum it all up, take your money elsewhere. You will get a better education from a more professional group of individuals at another school. The people that run this school are hustlers. They know it, and they know they are getting away with it. If you are a former student and have experienced such unethical and unprofessional experiences at this school, speak up. read more

dont come here for anything of other than recording arts and even then there's a better place in Tennessee called Blackbird academy. i graduated from mediatech then worked there. the middle management is an absolute shit show and you turn from a friend to a slave once you start working for them. just move pass this one its too good to be true. read more

MediaTech has been the best education decision for my son. When Covid happened last year his plans fell through for the junior college he was originally going to attend to get his basics. He's always had a passion for music and was really excited when he found out he could take the same online college classes at MediaTech and then also get to do labs in recording studios on campus to get an Associate Degree to be an Audio Engineer. The school has already connected him with some part time audio work he got paid for. I'm so proud of him and can't wait to be his plus one at the Grammys! read more

As someone who went through both programs, I can say that this school treats the film program like a complete after thought. Not all, but a lot of the equipment in the film room was old or broken. I had to wrap an HD zoom recorder together with duct tape so the batteries wouldn't fall out. I had to do the same thing to a boom pole. The film side is getting no love. We were working tirelessly on our 401 film, that we put up all of the money for by the way, but when I checked the Facebook page for the school, there was NO mention of it. Not a picture of us on set, no picture of our poster that we worked hard on making, no mention of former student films that have won at festivals, NOTHING. Meanwhile, "Check out this picture of so and so in studio A!" A few of us were really upset about it because we felt left out and unappreciated. There would even be times when I would book time to work on sound design for the film, and it would get canceled by the front desk because "The audio students have projects coming up, and they have priority." As result of this, the audio quality of the film wasn't where I wanted it to be by the time we had to turn it in. Honestly, it made us pretty resentful towards the audio students even though I WAS an audio student at one point. The school didn't even really keep our attendance. The film teachers had to do it. The audio program was great while I was in it, but once I got into film, I realized the audio program was great because that was the only thing the school cared about. I loved all of my teachers, I learned a lot from people who knew what they were doing, and met a lot of amazing people in my time there, but it bothers me that the school promotes itself as "THIS AMAZING, AWESOME, BEST AUDIO ENGINEERING SCHOOL IN DALLAS.......that happens to also have a film program." read more

I attended MediaTech Institute Dallas from September 2012 to October 2013. While a lot of money has been put into the recording studios I feel there should be a little more emphasis on the live Sound Reinforcement classes because after all that's where I get my work and where you will most likely work unless you waste a lot of money and work at a fast food place after you graduate.I work full time at a hotel with an audio visual company as a tech, but I really hoped to get a job at recording studio or television studio doing post production. I wished there was access to digital consoles because coming out of school there was a high demand for people who could run digital boards. I also would have liked to learn about lighting and would have paid to take a lighting classes. Mediatech was very expensive but the access to equipment and microphones was a great experience and there isn't very many places that will let you immediately start touching mics and audio consoles. This access to gear makes you valuable to any company when you graduate even though the program is only a year. If I could do it over again I would though. I met some really talented classmates and have created a small network or friends to work and freelance with. read more

Update: I asked for a transcript to be sent to a university I will be attending. I asked for the transcript a week ago. The lady that answered the phone took my name down, got the address for the transcript to be mailed to, and said it was done. It wasn't done. The university told me they had not yet received a transcript from MediaTech. So I called MediaTech and someone named Dave told me that the university has to call MediaTech to request a transcript. I thought this was strange so I called the university to ask. The university told me that they cannot, and will not, ask another school for a transcript. They said that is the student's job. I told this to MediaTech and they acted like I was lying. I was panicking because the university deadline is quickly approaching. So I finally asked to speak to someone else at MediaTech. A guy named Mike told me to email him the info and he would send it out today. I don't know if it got sent out yet but I am in tears about the idea that I may not get in to this university due to the fact that MediaTech isn't clear on their transcript request policy.
