Medici Steps is a small cafe/bistro situated to the far side of the Leie from the centre of Ghent. I have only just realised that its name is taken from the elegantly decorated spiral staircase that is a feature of the cafe. It's very ornate and guilded, but it still might be worth watching your footing on the way back from the toilets.
The cafe serves good pasta, salads and snacks. All salads come with cold peas and beans, which can be great or rather bizarre, depending on your taste. As is the custom in Belgium, each coffee or cold drink comes with a little sweet or savory snack; in the case of Medici, these can be very substantial. You can order a coffee with what in the UK would be the equivalent of a cream tea.
Service is efficient, but can be a little distracted. read more
