I've purchased from Medieval Collectibles a couple times now and have been happy with the products they provide. My most recent experience has compelled me to share my opinion of their service. The renaissance fair was less than a month away and I hadn't yet prepared for my Landsknecht impression to join my brother and nephews for this annual event with family and friends. The event was just 17 days away and there was much to be done in order to make my impression a lasting one. I was concerned with the shipping time and noticed the recommendation listed on their website regarding the importance in reaching out to their support team to specify any time sensitivity on orders. Liz in customer service replied via email and also contacted me via phone to ensure that I received her detailed email. She had clearly itemized the articles of my order which would delay the shipping and offered multiple alternatives for my choosing. I found Liz to be a thoughtful, attentive, polite, well spoken individual and overall quite the friendly person to interact with. Upon reflection of this experience, I can clearly recognize that my sole reason for which compelled me to share my impression here are purely due to Liz and her handling of my concerns and the care she put forth in response. Medieval Collectibles is fortunate to have an employee such as Liz - who alone has proven to raise the perceived quality of a product in her keen, vigilant handling of the customer's concerns. As a costume designer, I have ordered from Medieval Collectibles many times over the years. I have noticed a notable decline in the service and quality of their pieces. I have a piece (leather jerkin) that I bought several years ago. I ordered the same item again as I needed a duplicate to use it in a show, and the product that has the same name and description is now notable cheaper and lower quality. I also used to experience very quick and effective customer service in regards to orders and returns. I imagine with the rise in popularity of Renaissance fairs and historical costuming generally, their site has more business than ever. But it appears their staffing has not kept up with this demand. I emailed about an order that was suppoed to arrive weeks ago and it still took customer service days to respond, and have not been very helpful in the process. I think they have a great array of pieces, and would recommend them with caveats, especially if you're on a tight theatre timeline. read more

The only positive things I can say is that the website was fairly easy to make purchases from and that the product arrived in decent quality upon arrival. When ordering a pair of boots that were listed on the website at the time as "In Stock" they were not in fact "In Stock", and were not in stock for at least 4 months. Medieval collectables rely on notifying customers on a single sent email which is promptly dropped/closed/and ignored if no response is sent back in a timely fashion and their customer service makes no attempts to make telephonic contact with their customers. More Over, if their product IS on hold, they seem to have the expectation that you have to monitor for their email correspondance on a daily basis to check in with them to see if the product is in stock or being shipped as they will not be providing any updates nor any warnings as to when the product does come in and they ship it out. So yes, there is the expectation that the customer puts their entire life on hold while they wait on them to be able to fulfill orders that have already been paid for. Unfortunately, I was out of town when the boots finally shipped for the first time, and I did not see the email while I was away...frankly, after waiting 4 months, I did not expect it to be shipped out the day after I flew out of town. Fortunately, my son was house sitting... unfortunately, UPS did not adequately leave a notification that they were holding a package instead of dropping it off as they do with every other package, and eventually sent it back. I was finially called by Medieval Collectables because the package was eventually returned to them, something they couldn't be bothered to do at any point prior to shipping out the product, to inform me that they could either return my money less the delivery or return fees OR they could charge me an additional shipping fee and the return fees to ship it back out to me again. There was absolutely NO Customer Service accountability nor desire to fix their customer other than to charge me twice for the same well overdue delivery with an additional return delivery fee on top of it. I was quite clear that the cost of bad business would be a poor review, but I will give 2 stars because I did EVENTUALLY get my product in the end, despite being extroted for it in delivery and shipping fees that exceeded the value of the purchase itself. read more

I ordered a "worn gold skull bowl", but received any black and silver skull planter. On the website and on my shipping label it had the correct item name. "worn gold skull bowl" I am at the box and on the skull it was labeled skull planter. when I tried to get an exchange, I was told that it was the correct item and that is just a preference and what they listed as and what their supplier has it listed as. And even though it was not a bowl that they had it listed, it says it was the correct item and I could not get a refund on my return of any more than 35%. WARNING do not order this unless you want to wait for months and deal with lengthy customer service emails where they opine on global supply chain delays. The product I ordered is still on backorder and the business ended up cancelling my order. I placed an order for it 2 months ago as a birthday gift. They told me it was out of stock and would be 3-4 weeks until they had it in to ship. I sent many emails and asked for many updates as delays continued to get longer and longer. They refunded me $8 and eventually cancelled and refunded my order (against my wishes) when I asked for more accurate information. Again, I ordered this June 19th and have still not received it as of August 10th. Edit: I just want to emphasize that I never cancelled this order or requested a refund -- I wanted the product I ordered. The business cancelled my order because I was persistent in asking for accurate updated shipping/restocking information and presumably they didn't want to deal with fulfilling the order. I understand that shipping delays happen, but I've never in my life experienced a business repeatedly missing their ETAs before cancelling altogether just because someone was asking when they would receive their order that was 2 months overdue. I got a bodice from here for my first ren faire and I was super impressed! I ordered it the week of and it came within 3 days which was the time listed for my area. The bodice is absolutely gorgeous. It's true to color and size, the design is flawless and the lining gives it a sense of refinement. I wore it all day (6-8 hours) and it held up beautifully. I would buy an entire wardrobe from them if I had the cash. The only comment I would make is that shipping costs a bit so be prepared for that. I bought one of their midevil shirts for a friend that I wanted to give him for Christmas. I placed this order over a month ago. The site tells me it would be here in 1-2 weeks and i'd receive tracking from UPS. 2 weeks goes by and I haven't received my order so I emailed the support staff who replied to me pretty quickly and told me my order wasn't in stock and assured me it would be here before Christmas. I never got any status checking from this place so I can track my order. I came home today. (I sent the email a week prior to this) and the package is at my front door which surprised the daylights out of me and I was happy. Product is exactly what I wanted and have no complaints. company is perfectly content selling items that are two sizes too large and then saying "it's within spec". also claimed that the boots i ordered were hand made, i would only accept this if you consider nike shoes hand made. when i went to make a return they made me go back and forth for 2 weeks taking pictures and waiting for them to respond. says it takes 7-10 days to process a return and are perfectly content to wait until the 10th day to process. sad part is that i really liked the boots i ordered aside from the size, but if i can't trust the size because of the range they allow then there is no way i would buy from them again. read more

I urge extreme caution before ordering anything from this company. They sent me the wrong item, no big deal I sent it back and then expected them to immediately send the correct product...but no. As soon as I had to return something everything changed. I returned the item weeks ago, they acknowledged they have it, but are refusing to "inspect" and process it because they're too "busy". I've bought from Medieval Collectibles for years, but apparently being a longstanding customer merits no sympathy if and when things go wrong. Their customer service is terrible. I returned a gift and was told there would be a waiting period, as it was currently out of stock. When I contacted them after the initial period, they told me they didn't carry that item anymore. Turns out they do, but under a different name; why wouldn't the rep just tell me that? Trying to order the new item proved to be an awful ordeal. They insisted they had partially refunded my order, but I showed no record of it. When I told them that, I got a verbal shrug. I guess my missing money is none of their concern. They made NO EFFORT to remedy my situation. I have had few encounters with less helpful people than the representative I talked to. Just because they have a photo of it online, doesn't mean that they sell it. I'm so confused by the customer service of this company. When I originally found this place online, I bought almost $400 in merchandise. I was happy with the beautiful products. My sister, seeing my excitement, bought me a $100 gift from this store for my birthday. That item was out of stock and the customer service rep notified us that it would be shipped when it arrived back in stock. FOUR months later I was still waiting with no communication on the ETA of the item! So I reached out and asked if I could just pick different items. I did NOT ask for a refund, I just wanted something else. This began a long stream of emails with a customer rep about which items I could or could not have. When we finally agreed on a handful of small things, I was told that I still had some money left over. So I picked a few more items out to complete the order total. The Rep replied that I could not pick any more items out and that I must receive a refund. What? A store that prefers customers to keep their money and not sell an item? I'm very confused by this business model and will not shop here again. Which is a shame, because I love the brands they carry and am one of those people that drops big money on 'toys'. You get at least 4 items in the box and they were all top quality and beautiful. I even had all I needed for a full outfit! I was blown away with the selection for the price. Very Satisfied. I also ordered a dress and the one I received, though it was my size, it ran small so I had to send it back and get a size up. I had no issues at all making this happen. I had placed my order and never got a shipping notification, so I reached out through the site's live chat and got a response almost immediately. I never received tracking info as I was getting worried I wouldn't have it in time to wear to my local Ren Fest. I ordered a pirate vest. The vest is very poorly designed and will not fit even though according to the size chart it should be too big. The back of the vest has what looks like rag poorly laced way too long. Customer service is even worse they just argued with me and said the measurements were right. The vest should be able to be unlaced and put on like a button up shirt. But the vest cannot be unlaced because the unfinished shoelace is knotted on the ends. If you unknot it the shoelace will fray. While I was talking to customer service trying to explain this to them they hung up on me. read more

Absolute joke of a business. I order a wall ornament and and they email me back saying its out of stock and the wait time is about 2 months till its at my door. I say that's fine I can wait and after 2 months I email them to see if my item is shipped and they then tell me after 2 months the item that I ordered was discontinued when before they said out of stock. I then struggled to get a refund because of the person not wanting to give me my money back and just trying to make me buy a different shitty item from this awful site. She finally gives in to refund me my money and I was refunded 23 less dollars!!!! I even asked about it and they wouldn't reply to that email. This place has the WORST customer service. I ordered a custom shirt, and when I got it the shirt was ridiculously out of proportion. Clearly the amateur seamstress followed the measurements literally rather than size according to the pattern. The result is a shirt that hems at about my navel. We took the measurements as given. My wife worked in fashion and I'm an artist, so we know how to take measurements, especially when THEY provided the instruction. They never sent an email confirmation. Never sent us the final dimensions. Nothing. Customer service was deliberately obtuse and rude. I reversed the charges and will go all the way to small claims before I let these buffoons cheat me. I made a couple orders yesterday and today I was notified by Customer Service that not one, but two of my requested items were out of stock. I was contacted by phone and e-mail. I used e-mail since it was easier for me at the time. I was given different options since it was "iffy" that I would get one of the items in time for an event. So I picked a different one. Then a little later I was asked about the 2nd item, a coat. It was also out of stock, but the date needed for the coat is a couple months away so it is all good. Everything was worked out and I feel great that everything would be received in time. I thought it was awesome that I was notified and given options. Over $360 worth and I still had to pay over $50 for shipping, received them 2 months after the estimated delivery day, and would have had to PAY AGAIN just to return them then get 15% deducted to "re-shelf" them.
