This is a fantastic Greek supermarket. I am from California but am a Greek person and since our one Greek grocery closed there I've been ordering my stuff from Astoria. I knew that when I was in town I would have to visit. They have a great selection and variety of groceries which are clearly organized and categorized. They also have some misc. housewares and decor which was fun to see. The staff were nice and everything is reasonably priced. Can't wait to come back! read more

Not the first time I bought feta cheese at this popular market but last time I returned a plastic container with feta cheese.that was sour.but the Hispanic Mexican that appeared suddenly in this area talk over the container with cheese even though I ask him not to do so. He keep talking over the cheeses and cut a new pice of feta cheese with the black gloves he had on his hands before he appeared on the counter he tasted it then uses the same dirty gloves and cut the new piece of cheese that he replace but he continues talking and didn't change the gloves for a new pair as he supposed to do . he was mad and rude instead of courteous and didn't gave an apology for the inconvenience. This is not a good review for this employee and neither for this nice and wonderful store read more

Very small nice grocery store focusing on greek Mediterranean items. It was clean, organized and everyone was polite. It was cold outside so I only ordered one spinach pie and one cheese pie (more like handmade pockets of goodness). They were warm crispy and only cost 1.50 each. Extremely popular decades-old staple for imported treats and freshly made dishes and items. Good variety of pies, including some vegan options--all are pretty good/standard. Also have vegan moussaka some days that is well-worth trying. Most of the employees are attentive and to the point--a delight. One man in particular seems to give an air that he's pretending he doesn't actually work there or doesn't wish to be seen as working there. Once he's done actually pretending not to see and hear you, you'll be able to order from him or ask a question, which will undoubtedly bother him. Well-acquainted with and accustomed to service in different parts of the neighborhood, so not sensitive to sass. But a notably odd experience. read more

NEVER AGAIN I have been shopping here for over ten years and would have fully agreed with everyone about the kindness etc... I purchased fresh ricotta which already looked a bit dry (different then Italian ricotta) and asked the man behind the counter for water in it. He replied it was not necessary, So I asked how long will it stay good for, to which he replied a week or longer. NOT TRUE I just went to open it so I could prepare a Spanakopita. The cheese was yellow and disgusting. I thought let me call and see if they would exchange it for some fresh ricotta. The owner answered and replied that he would not exchange it and hung up on me in the middle of my sentence. It is not only small shop owners that are hurting financially so are their customers. TITAN will be where I go to from now on even if there prices are a bit higher at least I know I am receiving top quality both on my food and customer service. read more

Last week we tried their other store which has limited off-street parking. A bigger selection with a massive array of olive oils, including bulk fill your own bottle. Bright home a bottle of the Kalamata oil and it's nearly gone...delicious and easy on the stomach. I've found that as much as I like Italian olive oil, it does not sit well with me. Maybe it's the acid. Greek and Cretan olive oils never upset my stomach and have such great flavor. At home I'll take add feta and olive oil into a crock and put it in the fridge. The oil solidifies and I then use a knife to spread it on bread with the feta chunks...breakfast of champions. I look forward to returning as always. read more

So I have given this place a few chances ... but this has happened 3 times so I had to write a review, I bought their Phillio dough 3 times and every time the expiration dates stated 2020 but every time there was mold on them when I opened them at home. It is a small store with a large variety of East European products - which are not expired!!!! Good variety of pita breads, puff pastry sheets for baking and all sorts of sweets. This place is such a tiny but happy one, completely packed to the brim with a whole array of different products. They've got spices, produce, a feta cheese and olive bar, canned/jarred goods, sweets, filo pastry dough, booze, drinks, etc. Its a (much) smaller but homier version of Euromarket and there's plenty of friendly staff around to help you out. They also sell homemade spinach pies and cheese pies for $3.50. Got the cheese pie...delicious. You can hear the crunch as you bit through infinite layers of filo dough and the rings of cheese within are just heaven. read more

We went to Mediterranean Foods yesterday, Saturday, October 21, 2017. Great food options! Olives galore by the pound. Several types of Feta Cheese sold by the pound. You can buy just a little bit of each, so you can figure out which one you love the best. I asked for a low salt option which turned out to be very delicious. They have lots of yummy food products at the deli counter: sardines, some other types of fish, and marinated artichoke hearts which I absolutely love. Prices are reasonable. $6.99 LB of low salt Feta, $5.99 LB for marinated artichoke hearts. Regular Feta $3.99 LB. The gentleman who served me the artichoke hearts at the deli counter was very pleasant and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The cashiers are upbeat and treat you like a friend. i finally visited the original location of medit foods as i usually go to the one which is nearer ditmars and the steinway area but this location is just as good with more aisle space to glide your shopping cart around .if its greek food products you need then this place is what you need as i always pick up olives , feta cheese , frozen boxed foods of spinach pies , artichoke hearts , and the other ones that i can pronounce at all. they have a good selection of pita breads and other types of cheeses besides feta and the sweets which are not that common elsewhere . the different spreads which are in the freezers are also tasty with a good piece of warm pita bread . prices are fair and the cashier ladies are no joke as they ring you up very quickly with a semi smile . i picked up a few of the sparkling water which i prefer over pellegrino but they tend to cost a bit more . if you are like me and prefer a simple quick bite sometimes which is made up of a few pieces of pita bread , some black olives , some feta cheese , some seafood salad then i suggest you visit one of the medit. foods in astoria . read more
