Exquisite. From being seated to receiving the check, our experience was superb. Our server Larry was helpful, witty, and timely with our requests. The starter bread basket with olive oil and tapenade was the perfect way to warm our stomachs. The red onion loaf was especially tasty. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli, my husband had the carbonara, and we shared the Americano pizza. The pizza came out first and was OUT OF THIS WORLD. So authentic and perfectly balanced in flavor. The butternut squash was a great cozy and seasonal choice that I was very satisfied with. My husband enjoyed his carbonara and ate every last bite. The ambiance was cozy and upscale. A good kind of busy. We were wildly underdressed in our own opinion, but enjoyed our entire experience. We would definitely come back here

we came with dear dear friends when we were visiting them. This was a fun festive place to come. Bread selection was great!!!! Greek salad, and the fried pecorino was delicious!!! Wide noodles with Bolognese was spot on!!! Service was wonderful! It can get pretty loud in there, they do have outdoor options when it's not too humid, etc. Well done!

July 26, 2025 - Two for dinner before a play @ Florida Studio Theatre. A little far from walkable to FST so an incredible and fantastic THANK YOU to the merchants in the building and Mediterraneo for the ample and free parking so we are not paying the thieves of the City or Sarasota for parking nonsense and another $350 predatory towing bill!!! This is a fantastic looking establishment!!! The layout is efficient but felt family friendly and the clientele was all smiles!! The main dining area was packed and was turning during our meal in the back dining area (we requested) how it too was packed when we were leaving at 7:30 pm! This felt special...... And it was!!! Service by Ralph was some of the best in my 45 years of business/global travel. Of note my dad (deceased for now 30 years) must have been smiling that night as one of my measures for a great restaurant HE told me about from his college days in the 1940s was from the Tally-Ho restaurant in Chicago. The wait staff was drilled on NEVER letting the water glass get below half filled for even 1 minute!!! THIS was the case here at Mediterraneo. Not just the water glass but the tables were cleared and bused swiftly and efficiently. AWESOME zone defense and service!!! We had a little bread and some chopped olives and olive oil. A little bruschetta made and appearance as well. The mixed drinks were very good according to the "boss" and I had a Stella N/A that was served properly in a chilled glass. Not crazy expensive. My wife ordered the Tropicale salad which was arugula w/heart of palms and avocado and some very nice large slices of parmesan. I had some after her gleeful report of freshness and nice palm pieces and the cheese was fantastic!! 10/10 I ordered the pinto bean soup de jour (cup) that was also excellent. Nice full bodied broth and beautifully flavored. A touch saltier than I like, but this was a winner. 9/10 Ralph highly recommended the Veal Chop and that was an absolutely fantastic suggestion. My wife enjoyed it whole-heartedly. I had a bite and it was truly awesome product and wonderfully prepared, seasoned, and cooked!!! She commented and I agreed also a bit heavy on the salt. 9/10 I went with the Capellini Primavera a angel-hair pasta with a variety of vegetables in an oil and garlic sauce. First of this was a perfectly made and spot on TEXTBOOK cooked al dente (first cooked firm to the tooth) pasta. This was GREAT!!! The zucchini and other vegetables were also firm and not mushy boiled wet filler!!! A great job!!! Only quip is the oil and garlic was very tasty but the dish was very oily and also a little heavy handed on the salt as well. 9/10 We know we are coming back here! As a matter of fact my wife is changing a birthday celebration "with the girls" from XXXXXXXX (smile) around the corner Italian spot to here at Mediterraneo !!! Always glad to have an experience like this......and also enjoy giving back to my dining-out warriors lookin' for good food and service. I FOUND ONE FOR YOU!!!

Had not visited this Sarasota treasure before - grateful to the locals who told me about it. Lovely service and menu. I was dining alone, sitting at the bar and was perfectly comfortable. The complimentary bread basket and bruschetta were an unexpected treat. And the carpaccio - muah!

Walked in for dinner. Noticed that a lot of other customers were Italian which I took as a good sign since Italians would go to this Italian restaurant! Food was very good. Cappellini primavera tasted light and fresh. Scaloppine di vitello al vino bianco was definitely very tasty. Atmosphere was relaxed. Service was good but not exceptional. Giving this place 4/5.

There are times when there is an option to give a 3.5 star review on Yelp and this would definitely be the time. In terms of food, I think I would give Mediterraneo a 3 star because it's definitely not anything to write home about. But in terms of ambiance and pricing, it is something to note. It has the feel of an expensive midtown New York restaurant but the price of a restaurant in one of the outer boros. I was drawn by the decor and ambiance of the place. We ordered a pasta dish, broccoli, and pizza. All were fine but if it were New York, it would be considered barely average. I would give it a higher rating if I were more of an ambiance reviewer and less of a good food value reviewer. That being said, if I were back again I would try other items on the menu

So many great pasta options. Pasta tasted fresh. Generous portions. Appreciated the fresh bread to the table as well. Service was decent.

First time visiting and I have no clue why it took so long. Went in for lunch and I was blown away by the flavors of the food! The service was quick and friendly and I can't say enough about the food!!!! I will definitely be back for dinner service.

We dined for dinner with two other couples. The first time for four of us. We were seated quickly for our Friday evening reservation. The restaurant was nicely decorated with art and photos. The dining room was full and had good energy. Bread service was quick and offered a few varieties complimentary, a nice touch. The focaccia was wonderful. The bruschetta needed a little more seasoning. The olive tapenade and olive oil were nice. Cocktails were average, nothing special. The table shared a calamari and we were underwhelmed with the lack of flavor. We asked for a split Caesar Salad only to get two plates to split ourselves; not the way to earn returning guests. This could have been overlooked if the Caesar was outstanding, it was not for $16. Entrees were a little slow coming out and most were good, just no standouts from our group of six. No desert. Service did what was needed, no extraordinary except the water service was outstanding. With so many restaurants in Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch now, unlikely we will return soon since so many other Italian options to try.

Mediterraneo was a great evening out. The atmosphere is very nice and has a bit of a big city type feel. The waitress was polite and the greeters were pleasant. The focaccia and breads were complimentary and a genius move. My lasagna was tasty and not the usual Italian American style (thank you), the salmon was moist and worth the money, tuna app was pretty decent, the meatballs were tender and good (thank you for not putting ricotta on them to take away from the taste of the meatballs), tiramisu was outstanding (I could have eaten 2 of them) and anybody that says it is tasteless apparently doesn't understand what a real tiramisu is supposed to taste like, the ravioli with the wine sauce was my only let down, the wine sauce was delicious but maybe better on a meat dish. That being said great restaurant and I will return! Food 9 Atmosphere 8.5 Service 8

We've been here a handful of times and every visit seems to get better and better. Out waitress is always knowledgeable and helpful. Drinks and food come out in a timely manner no matter how busy it gets. Cant wait to come back already.

Rigatoni with broccolini and sausage. SO good!

Outdoor seating offers both al fresco à la humidity or under a lovely lanai with fans. The meals generally include mixed vegetables and roasted potatoes; however the menu doesn't say that nor did our server. Only the all pasta dishes come with pasta. There is no side of pasta offered either. This was disappointing because we were in the mood for pasta. After overcoming this, the dishes we chose were all delicious. Our guest said the sole of fish and sauce was great. The branzino at $49 we were told was boney but tasty. The lobster raviolis were cooked perfectly and topped with 2 pieces of grilled shrimp. The chicken scaloppini was tender and the white wine sauce was light and smooth. Overall the meal was good. Our server was distracted and sloppy. Considering it was not at all busy and there was sufficient staff, our server looked overwhelmed. Water glasses were left unfilled and drinks were spilled when served. We had to ask for extra napkins to clean the stem of our glasses. Glad we tried it, but with so many Italian options in this area, I think we will leave this spot for the visitors.

First impression, plenty of street parking directly in front and as we entered we noticed a truly beautiful outdoor patio, nicely landscaped, centered around a beautiful outdoor stone fireplace. When the weather cools we will look forward to enjoying that. As it was a bit warm outside we chose an indoor table. The interior is beautifully done with elaborately detailed tray ceilings, soft colors, soft lighting, a really lovely bar, and a quiet luxury throughout. We were greeted by the host Bob, who we later learned is a partner/owner, and we were seated immediately. Our waitress Holly was fun, engaging, attentive and eager to please without ever being overly present throughout the night. She set the tone by announcing that all wine was $10 off per bottle and all signature cocktails were $10 each. We were informed these values are expected to be offered at all times during low season (not just a happy hour). We found the wine and cocktail pricing to be extremely reasonable even without this extra offer. Holly also volunteered that the kitchen would happily split any appetizer onto two plates and we were also welcome to order just a half salad or half Caesar salad if only one of us wanted one. For the waitperson to offer this without even being asked, we felt the spirit of hospitality was off to a great start as it was obvious the restaurant is prioritizing customer happiness above all else. The menu, which you can review on their website, was full of enticements that had us vowing to return so that we could sample more and more offerings. We settled on a half house salad (excellent), a pasta fagioli (unforgettably good) one of their signature dishes, "Chicken Our Way", and Rigatoni Bolgnaise. The chicken dish was simply out of this world, very lightly breaded and beautifully glazed with a wonderful sauce. The table next to us, having driven up all the way from Northport, politely demanded to know what the dish was as the aroma graced their table. The Rigatoni Bolognaise was as fantastic as any dish we had while travelling through Italy; the bolognaise sauce was unquestionably made from scratch in-house and was as delicious and as authentic as it comes. As we were dining, a woman entered who had the essence of an owner; she went from staff member to staff member, and from table to table, checking on every employee and every customer to ask how things were going. When she stopped at our table, she introduced herself as Beverly, the host's partner. She stayed with us for quite some time showing a genuine and personal interest in us. We were not just a customer to her; we were clearly a new and valued acquaintance. This level of Mom-and-Pop personal service is very hard to find today in Sarasota--and it makes all the difference in the world. We can't wait to go back to see Bob, Beverly and Holly again as they truly made us feel like family. And we can't wait to try more of their enticing dishes. You simply MUST sample this restaurant and see for yourself. I fear though that if too many people discover it, the restaurant may grow and change. I hope that doesn't happen, because it is perfect right now, in this moment, exactly the way it is.

There were about 4 tables so plenty of room for more guests and the bar was empty. The sausage and peppers sandwich was flavorful per my husband. The sausages are not sliced but cut making the sandwich a complete mess. The bread is not made to hold the sausage. I had the chicken Marsala sandwich. Again had a huge issue with the bread being useless. The mozzarella was on the bread but none on the chicken. The Marsala sauce was bland and minimal. Would not get this again. The disco fries were not making me happy. Basically thin fries smothered in gravy. Where was the cheese? The gravy was also bland and we ended up tossing most of them out. The restaurant itself is nice with darker colors and clean. Prices on the regular menu are pricey and after trying their sauce I can see why it was empty. Personal peeve, Italian dish that doesn't include pasta as a side option when clearly they have pasta in the menu is wrong.
