A large group of residents (about 20) had dinner here. I had been here many years ago and remembered the acoustics were not great; that has not changed. The restaurant is popular with both inside and outside dining. I liked the complimentary bruschetta served plus the bread. My Mediterranean salad had large chunks of feta and tomatoes and was very good. My pasta (pappardella al ragu) with meat sauce was good and flavorful. Our waiter brought me a second gin and tonic even though I never ordered it and forgot the Cabernet I wanted. Since we were a table of 7, a twenty percent gratuity was added to the bill. Exquisite. From being seated to receiving the check, our experience was superb. Our server Larry was helpful, witty, and timely with our requests. The starter bread basket with olive oil and tapenade was the perfect way to warm our stomachs. The red onion loaf was especially tasty. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli, my husband had the carbonara, and we shared the Americano pizza. The pizza came out first and was OUT OF THIS WORLD. July 26, 2025 - Two for dinner before a play @ Florida Studio Theatre. A little far from walkable to FST so an incredible and fantastic THANK YOU to the merchants in the building and Mediterraneo for the ample and free parking so we are not paying the thieves of the City or Sarasota for parking nonsense and another $350 predatory towing bill!!! This is a fantastic looking establishment!!! The layout is efficient but felt family friendly and the clientele was all smiles!! The main dining area was packed and was turning during our meal in the back dining area (we requested) how it too was packed when we were leaving at 7:30 pm! This felt special...... And it was!!! Service by Ralph was some of the best in my 45 years of business/global travel. Of note my dad (deceased for now 30 years) must have been smiling that night as one of my measures for a great restaurant HE told me about from his college days in the 1940s was from the Tally-Ho restaurant in Chicago. The wait staff was drilled on NEVER letting the water glass get below half filled for even 1 minute!!! THIS was the case here at Mediterraneo. Not just the water glass but the tables were cleared and bused swiftly and efficiently. AWESOME zone defense and service!!! We had a little bread and some chopped olives and olive oil. A little bruschetta made and appearance as well. The mixed drinks were very good according to the "boss" and I had a Stella N/A that was served properly in a chilled glass. Not crazy expensive. My wife ordered the Tropicale salad which was arugula w/heart of palms and avocado and some very nice large slices of parmesan. I had some after her gleeful report of freshness and nice palm pieces and the cheese was fantastic!! 10/10 I ordered the pinto bean soup de jour (cup) that was also excellent. Nice full bodied broth and beautifully flavored. A touch saltier than I like, but this was a winner. 9/10 Ralph highly recommended the Veal Chop and that was an absolutely fantastic suggestion. My wife enjoyed it whole-heartedly. I had a bite and it was truly awesome product and wonderfully prepared, seasoned, and cooked!!! She commented and I agreed also a bit heavy on the salt. 9/10 I went with the Capellini Primavera a angel-hair pasta with a variety of vegetables in an oil and garlic sauce. First of this was a perfectly made and spot on TEXTBOOK cooked al dente (first cooked firm to the tooth) pasta. This was GREAT!!! The zucchini and other vegetables were also firm and not mushy boiled wet filler!!! A great job!!! Only quip is the oil and garlic was very tasty but the dish was very oily and also a little heavy handed on the salt as well. 9/10 We know we are coming back here! As a matter of fact my wife is changing a birthday celebration "with the girls" from XXXXXXXX (smile) around the corner Italian spot to here at Mediterraneo !!! I could write stand up comedy about the server being so horrible that it is possibly THE worst service we have ever had, but I don't think people would believe me. She was horrendous in every way. Didn't bring our drinks, didn't bring more bread, made **ridiculous** comments justifying why she did not bring more bread or our drinks. We did not eat the food because it was so bad and she said nothing. Never checked on us once. Was just plain RUDE. We were just so speechless at her comments. SPEECHLESS. And I seldom find myself speechless. Even a server on her FIRST day would not behave this way or make the rude comments she made. COMPLETELY lacking in customer service. There are times when there is an option to give a 3.5 star review on Yelp and this would definitely be the time. In terms of food, I think I would give Mediterraneo a 3 star because it's definitely not anything to write home about. But in terms of ambiance and pricing, it is something to note. It has the feel of an expensive midtown New York restaurant but the price of a restaurant in one of the outer boros. I was drawn by the decor and ambiance of the place. We ordered a pasta dish, broccoli, and pizza. All were fine but if it were New York, it would be considered barely average. I would give it a higher rating if I were more of an ambiance reviewer and less of a good food value reviewer. That being said, if I were back again I would try other items on the menu read more

We dined for dinner with two other couples. The first time for four of us. We were seated quickly for our Friday evening reservation. The restaurant was nicely decorated with art and photos. The dining room was full and had good energy. Bread service was quick and offered a few varieties complimentary, a nice touch. The focaccia was wonderful. The bruschetta needed a little more seasoning. The olive tapenade and olive oil were nice. Cocktails were average, nothing special. The table shared a calamari and we were underwhelmed with the lack of flavor. We asked for a split Caesar Salad only to get two plates to split ourselves; not the way to earn returning guests. This could have been overlooked if the Caesar was outstanding, it was not for $16. Entrees were a little slow coming out and most were good, just no standouts from our group of six. No desert. Service did what was needed, no extraordinary except the water service was outstanding. With so many restaurants in Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch now, unlikely we will return soon since so many other Italian options to try. read more

Mediterraneo was a great evening out. The atmosphere is very nice and has a bit of a big city type feel. The waitress was polite and the greeters were pleasant. The focaccia and breads were complimentary and a genius move. My lasagna was tasty and not the usual Italian American style (thank you), the salmon was moist and worth the money, tuna app was pretty decent, the meatballs were tender and good (thank you for not putting ricotta on them to take away from the taste of the meatballs), tiramisu was outstanding (I could have eaten 2 of them) and anybody that says it is tasteless apparently doesn't understand what a real tiramisu is supposed to taste like, the ravioli with the wine sauce was my only let down, the wine sauce was delicious but maybe better on a meat dish. Used to frequent this restaurant regularly years ago, always happy with the experience. Hadn't been there recently so when friends invited us we were excited to go back. It was a Saturday night and we were seated in their new addition (basically a covered sidewalk). No problem here except for the fact that it was impossible to carry a normal conversation due not only to the level of noise in the structure itself but, also from the street noise, since there was practically no difference between sitting in the sidewalk or this "new" dining area. Food was good, service harried...my last impression was "sometimes...less is more ". Will not be going back. 2 stars for food / 0 for service/ -2 for ambiance, which makes it 0 Stars! read more

Calling me love and honey. Eww! He accused me of calling to complain about my orders all the time and said he credited me multiple times. Which is not true. Updating review to reflect a dining room experience. We arrived early as we came from a nearby event - the restaurant opens promptly at 5 for dinner- to find a sizeable gathering waiting to enter. There's tons of seating inside and at two outside locations, so not sure why the crush, but eh, whatever. Aside from Bruno's terrific pizza, seated in the main dining room, we ordered some pasta dishes. My wife had the "black linguine with shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce". Good, but not really spicy. I ordered the "bucatini with braised lamb with mushrooms and pecorino". Delicious Ordered a nice Nebbiolo from the extensive wine list - presented on a tablet with detailed wine notes - a big home run for me. The staff are fun and friendly and make for a fun dinner. Loved the outdoor heated patio area. Tables are a bit close, especially for the 2 tops, so no privacy. The menu is really for seafood and vegetables lovers. Unfortunately, I am not one since I'm allergic to seafood. I was hoping for a nice Italian dinner and ended up with soup and a wood burning pizza instead. My husband who loves seafood was able to completely enjoy his entree. Hence, why I gave them 4 stars and not 3. The wine selections were varied and range about $12 to $14. Portions are normal and entrees range from $20 to $45 each. Service is attentive, informative, and friendly. Parking garage is available one block west of restaurant. An excellent evening We visited Mediterraneo last night with friends and had an excellent time. As mentioned in other reviews, they are experts at great service. We had reservations and received a welcoming greeting and were seated as soon as we arrived. I had checked out the menu online and knew for my main course I wanted their Spaghetti Carbonara. Love carbonara, I've been looking forward to this meal for a few days. Mediterraneo has an extensive menu, and they also had specials, which our server listed for us from memory. The meal began with complimentary Bruschetta and table bread with an olive spread. The brightly colored bruschetta was a great start and reminded me of our visit a few years ago to Italy. Good memories. Next came my Cesare Salad. That, unfortunately, was a disappointment. There was such a lack of dressing it seemed like it was just a bowl of lettuce with some nice Parmesan cheese. That it also cost just under 13 bucks made it even more disappointing. Perhaps my salad was just not assembled correctly. The meal moved along at a pretty quick clip, with our entrees arriving as soon as we finished our soups and salads. My Spaghetti Carbonara looked impressive, shaped in the center of the plate rather than just a pile of noodles. I suppose it was still a pile of noodles but it looked so good, and it tasted better than good, it was outstanding. For one thing, it was not swimming in a sauce, but there was enough coating to carry the creamy cheesy flavor while enjoying the pasta, and there were plenty of pork pieces. It was just a perfect balance. We were all very happy with our dinners and visit, and I will be recommending Mediterraneo to others. read more

Three stars? How could I?......With the best Italian food in Florida and superb professional service, what's holding this all star back from a Michelin star. I'll tell you what it is. It's loud and tight. Tables are so tight that we shared our bread with the table next to us. We sat at a table of four, but it was so loud that you couldn't hear the person sitting opposite you. It has such potential it makes me sad to say that I probably won't go back. The only reason to abuse customers with overly tight seating is to maximize the restaurants profit per inch figures. I came here with my boyfriend for our two year anniversary and the food was great! We got calamari (not photographed), fusilli al pollo (pasta), pizza, and dessert (I don't remember which one). The portions were amazing and I had left overs for the following day. Service was okay, especially for it being so busy. She was always there when we needed her! Had dinner at Mediterraneo two nights ago. I ordered pizza, which I heard was very good. They have like 12 different types of pizza... I wanted the one with tomatoes, arugula and pancetta.. I was very disappointed $23 for a medium personal pizza, barely any pancetta, or arugula, no tomatoes and the worst part was that the crust was not done! I don't know if it was because it was a Monday night and it wasn't busy but the pizza guy looked bored, he shoukd has paid attention to what he was doing..not happy at all. This is my third time dining at this establishment. The food is always good. Today, we ordered the chicken parmigiana for $30.00. There was one piece of chicken and no sides at all. Not even garnish. I think for that price, could've included a small side of pasta. Our neighboring table ordered a side of pasta that was so small a portion. This place has amazing entrees. However their Menu is very hard to read due to it being mostly in italian. I highly suggest the Salmon on a bed of spinach; or the fillet steak accompanied by the creamy mashed potatoes. Truly melts in your mouth.
