Visited recently for a friend's 70th birthday. From the beginning to the end the experience was wonderful. We had a reservation and were seated exactly at our reserved time. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable of not only the specials but all of the dishes that they served. The calamari was cooked perfectly. Very tasty and tender in a delicate sauce. Went here after a dear friend from Italy recommended it. Now if an Italian from Italy tells me to go I'm going! He was right! Everything was perfect! Service was tip top! Bar cocktails were very good. We got the meatball appetizer and a special that was tomatoes with Burrata mozzarella and sliced avocados. My daughter said they were the best meatballs she ever had. I was a little taken aback because that meant she liked them more than mine! I had the squid ink spaghetti with shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce. It was incredible! I'd definitely get it again! The food here is to die for! I could eat the rigatoni con salsiccia e broccolini in aglio e olio every single day. The sausage, broccolini, pine-nuts, dry ricotta cheese, oil, and garlic sauce spoke together with the rigatoni in perfect harmony. The lasagne was delightfully creamy and rich, but felt a lot heavier than the rigatoni. Even more outstanding was the service. It started out poorly with no one coming to our table once we were seated for around 20-25 minutes or so. We managed to flag someone to see if we could place our order, only to realize that we flagged one of the owners/managers. He sprung into immediate action and not only took our order personally, but demonstrated gratitude for our patience and was clearly determined to make up for the bumpy start. Not only did he wave the cost of a glass of wine, but he shared a complimentary focaccia bread with hot oil. He was very thoughtful and gracious. The server who was supposed to be assigned to our table eventually came over as we were enjoying some bread to apologize for the lack of service to start, stating he didn't know anyone had seated us at the table. He helped manage our bill at the end of the meal, but our service was otherwise handled directly by the owner/manager. We felt very well taken care of when all was said and done. With breads, pastas, and desserts in our bodies, we left feeling full, both in the tummies and in the hearts. As somebody who spent 2 decades in the industry, you can easily read the situation. These guys have it on lock. From the first kind greeting to the flexibility with seating, server with a sense of urgency but awareness of her station, friendly and attentive food runner and busser, manager dropping checks, very impressed for Sarasota. The server was confidently managing her station as one, taking care of everybody, service staff the same. I've been back in town for a couple of months and dropped in on all of the top spots. This was by far the best experience. Food brings people in the door, but service is the key. I know that most people who have not had the honor of working in the industry don't see or understand everything that goes on to orchestrate a positive dining experience. I can assure you. Enjoyed a tasty dinner for a couples night. We had a wood fired Bruno pizza and the meatballs for an app... both were hot and delicious. We had the RIGATONI SALSICCIA , TAGLIATA DI MANZO CON SALSA AL GORGONZOLA (steak), SCALOPPINE DI VITELLO CON CREAMA DI CARCIOFI E MARSALA(veal) and the BUCATINI AGNELLO. First let me say that I Love Mediterraneo ! I SO want to give them 5 stars as it's possibly my favorite restaurant in Sarasota. I have come here to celebrate 3 out of my last 5 birthdays. The food is almost always outstanding. My favorite dish is their signature Veal Milanesa. A huge pounded out bone in veal chop that's lightly breaded, pan fried and covered in a lightly marinated mixture of arugula and tomatoes. Always amazing. My other favorite is the lamb or veal Osso Bucco. I have no idea how long they slow cook it but it's fantastic. Most of the pasta dishes I've had have been Outstanding. I have probably tried a dozen or so different offerings here but I usually come back to one of the two above. The tiramisu and a glass of Dulce are one of my favorite ways to end a meal at Mediterraneo. Give it a try. While not inexpensive by any measure, I truly believe that the prices are fair considering the high quality of the food. If you are eating here at the busiest times of the day, you will probably find it to be a little bit loud. Not, "can't have a conversation" loud, but definitely noticeable. The service is usually good to excellent with the occasional miss-step. I haven't had the pizza here but with so many amazing dishes on the menu, I probably wouldn't be thinking about pizza when I'm here. read more

Got the Osso Bucco with Saffron Risotto and almost fell out of my chair it was so good. Margarita Pizza was also a classic Neapolitan style with great flavors and structure. Where I was let down was the dessert - got the Tiramisu and let me tell you I've had the dish around the world. Including southern and northern Italy. It was okay :( cream was decent but lacking mascarpone flavor. Lady Fingers were not mushy but lacking liquor/espresso flavor which I love in my Tiramisu. We've been here a couple times in the past few months. They have a very predictable and delicious assortment of food, and they execute very well. The veal, the Cobia, the sausage pasta, and salads were enjoyed by everyone at the table. We had a couple of small desserts as well which were also very good. We've heard from friends this place is hit or miss. Went last night March 2022 the service was good but the food not so much. No the lamb shank was undercooked as well as the risotto everything else was underwhelming for a party of eight. We had to sit indoors despite making reservations well in advance the tables were way too close together and the noise level was ridiculously loud. We've eaten here at least 6-7 times+ over the past couple of years... last nite's dinner was a 4-way WOW! We drive down from Wimauma, and it's well worth the hour drive, 45 min if we're lucky... Both my wife (who had the salmon scallopini) and I, plus our friends loved our dinners and the service was great as well... I had the Fruitti di Mare with squid ink pasta, and one of our friends had the standard pasta fruitti de mare, another had a different pasta dish ... all were outstanding... I've had the same fruitti di mare with squid ink pasta dish each time I've eaten here it's soooo good. Place was busy, inside and out... reservation suggested... It was a decent Italian place. My boyfriend and I went there to try someplace new. Service was great. Food came out fast and server was attentive. The food however... You can tell it wasn't made in-house. The meatballs in my boyfriend's spaghetti and meatballs were the frozen kind. He works in the restaurant industry and recognized them right away. My pasta tasted like it was from a box. In addition, when we asked for a substitution to be made (one that's been done at all the other places we've been to), they said it couldn't be done. Wow...loved it all. Six of us sat at a round comfortable table. I like that. Our server was a professional Italian waiter. Like that too. Great vibe the minute you walk in. I changed my mind 6 times bc it all sounded so darn good. I ended up with the chicken parm. First of all, ANY choice would have been right, but the chicken parm was better than any place ever. They pound the chicken to a thin layer which covers the entire plate. It was so tender, breaded and seasoned perfectly...I highly recommend. My husband kept wanting to "taste" mine. Sooo good. I am not sure I would get anything else there at this point. Anyway, the others enjoyed their choices...some kind of pasta with a lobster on the top, pasta with sausage and stuff and I forget the rest.
