Last night we had a bite emergency (one of my dogs was bitten under his eye) and I was frankly astounded by the speed and quality of care he received. The attending vet was superb, thorough, skilled, and fast. The work performed was absolutely top-notch of a quality I would have expected in a much larger clinic. Our wait time was as short as it possibly could have been. The aftercare instructions were clear, concise, and thankfully brief. The choices of medication provided to us for our trip back home were well thought out and chosen. In short, this is one of the best emergency clinics I have been to as a client or as a practitioner. In addition, the prices charged were extremely reasonable. One should realize that emergency care is expensive and the overall cost is determined on a case by case basis. I have been to three other emergency clinics in the area extending to a radius down to Portland. In my opinion not a single one of these has come close to the quality of care my dog received at Midcoast. As both a retired veterinarian and dog owner I cannot praise this clinic highly enough.

Dr.Welch is very good at explaining the pros and cons of any question I ask her…read more I always find Christine (the Vet) very pleasant and very interested and caring to all my cats and dogs over the years. ( 9-cats, 3-dogs beginning in 1974). Always remembers who they are and what they are like. My Cheetah was a special challenge, she'd have take your head off as look at you. Early on, we discovered we could use a particular coat , Cheetah would run down the sleeve thinking she was escaping only to be thwarted by not being able to fit through the wrist opening. Low and behold, Christine was able to do a complete exam using this coat. I still have the coat, though Cheetah has been gone for almost 3 years. Our latest visit was for my dog, Sophie, a Husky/Shepherd mix, 12 years old. Just one of the friendliest dogs there is. She drags me into the office. My other 2 dogs weren't QUITE as willing to be there. This was Sohie's routine physical. Dr Welch treated Sophie with respect, talking to her in soft tones, patting her, etc. Sophie requires a muzzle now , but ONLY to cut her toe nails. Sophie abhors ANYONE to touch her feet. CUTTING the toe nails , NO! NO! NO! But Dr. Welch accomplishes this with , I'd say easily, but we let Sophie"s nails get too long and they become very tough. In summary, I recommend Dr. Welch without reservation. She is kind, caring and respectful too her clients. She genuinely likes animals. One thing that I am thankful for , is that she will come to my home when it is time to let go of one of my babies, instead of having to put them through a ride to the vets. I have 4 dogs, have had cats and something is always going awry with them. Dr. Sanders is not only professional, funny, and congenial, but she is super-smart...smart enough to also say she's not sure when she isn't, which is so refreshing. Her approach is education-centered, so you never feel like there's only one option, even if there is only one option. Her practice is not based on squeezing the customer, but the animal in front of her. I also know that her staff is fantastic...they came with her from her last practice, and I can tell you that staff and techs can make or break a practice. Hers make it. If you live within a few hours of Taylor Brook, go to Dr. Sanders. You'll be embarrassed you took your animal friends anywhere else!

We have gone here a few times so far with at least two of our cats (we have 8 of them so sometimes…read moredetails are hard to recall). We first tried calling vets in our own area but they either weren't taking new pets or were scheduling months in advance. So we drive farther to get to Lakeside, but we are satisfied with them. The appointments haven't been too far in the future and we have liked the people we have spoken to so far. They are observing pandemic protocols, which are fine with me. You wait outside and let them know you are there, and someone comes out to talk to you and get your critter. Then an assistant or even the doctor comes out to talk to you. We needed a prescription for insulin for our Sunny Jim, and it was easy to arrange through Chewy.com. I can edit this review at a later date if I need to add details about the quality and cost of care over a longer term, but we are satisfied now and don't expect to be disappointed later. At this point I wouldn't even switch to one of the local vets if they got less busy.

We jumped in the car and my sister-in-law called Lakeside from the road, they said they would see us when we got there. On arrival we had about a 2 minute wait before they got us in an exam room. While we were doing this the office staff were contacting our vet in Rhode Island for medical records. We saw Dr. Paine whom I found to be extremely professional and caring. She examined our dog and spent a lengthy amount of time getting a history from us and diagnosing the possible issue. Dr. Paine then gave us signs of what to watch for and possible causes; she did a great job keeping us calm and delivering useful information to a couple of rattled parents. I found the office and medical staff at Lakeside to be extremely professional and caring. I've owned dogs and cats for 25 years and been to many animal hospitals, I would highly recommend Lakeside and would not hesitate to go back. Thank you!

They're nice, gentle, and don't BS you at all. They tell it like it is and work with you to make sure your animals get in safe. My biggest dog is not socialized so they allowed us to go in the back door into a room to prevent stress to any other animals that might be in the waiting room. Yes, of corse meds are expensive but they are everywhere. I don't blame them for that at all. They have their own lab in house for bloodwork or whatever you need. Supplies, treats, and other things are available to buy there. Fantastic staff and doctors and I will never go anywhere else as long as I'm here.
