Aero, Dachshund mix post surgery at MedVet

Thank you to the incredible staff at MedVet for their wonderful care of my Dachshund mix Aero! She needed emergency surgery on her intestines and received life saving care at this facility. Every single person my spouse and I interacted with (the front of house staff, nurses, veterinarians, etc.) over the course of three days were amazing. It's been a rough couple of days for our sweet girl but now she is on the road to recovery. I cannot say enough positive things about MedVet for finding out what was wrong and saving her life. It was expensive, but very worth it. Highly recommend this emergency vet. They truly care about animals and have empathy for the people who come in during an emergency. Excellent communication throughout the process and I always felt like my dog was in good hands.

Took my dog Eddie into MedVet because he was suffering from cancer, I was unaware of what was actually going on with him. They explained everything in detail and they were so kind to me. They let me say my goodbyes and took good care of Eddie.

Over the past two months, I have brought to dogs that we thought we might need to say our goodbyes too, shorty and Bailey. Both dogs were older. Shorty was 17, and Bailey was 16. . This was the hardest thing I've had to do, especially when you are not sure what the answer is or if you're making the right choice. Both visits we had the most caring and helpful care staff. From start to finish, they took care of us and, most importantly, our furry companions. They understand the position we were in and that we were looking for answers. It was really up to us to make the choice to go through with uthinizing them. They made that very clear but also expressed in detail about our dogs' quality of life and where they both stood. We knew we were making the right choice, knowing it's just an impossible decision . Your staff made it easier to navigate this tragic process. Thank you for taking care of me and my family. We are so blessed that Shorty and Bailey were taken care of by your team. Your kindness and compassion were present throughout this entire experience

Does anyone know of a low cost clinic that can see my baby a soon as possible? She has been having trouble pooping for a couple of weeks and it just getting worse, can anyone help me

Medvet is a great option. If they're too pricey for you at the minute, Dr. Patricia Stevens in LA Center is very affordable and often sees same day.

The staff are always understanding and accommodating to work with their needs to make their experience as comfortable as possible. We usually see Dr. Sandra, who always says "hello" to my girls and gets down on their level. We've been to other vets in the past who have just reached right for them which makes them even more nervous, so her gentle approach is wonderful. One of my dogs is very adverse to having her paws touched despite many attempts to desensitize. I can't even trim her nails myself....but Emily the Amazing can! She's the only person in the world who can touch miss Zoey's feet. Whenever we go in for a trim, Zoey's best friend Emily comes out with an exited greeting and my 12 year old sassy pitty melts into wiggles and kisses. I've been told she flops right over and puts her paws up for Emily, while she'll growl at anyone else who even tries to look in. Overall, the staff from the front desk to the vets have always been welcoming, kind, and compassionate. They care enough to get to know their patients and their families and make an effort to make the often stressful vet experience as good as possible. The short version: they saved our dog…read more First off the thing to understand about this place is it's essentially 1 large open area so as a pet parent you see EVERYTHING. While they do have rooms for families to be in private or for waiting with a reactive animal you are in an open main area with other families and see the staff interacting with patients, parents and each other. IMO this makes the medicine they practice better because of the accountability. They have a small snack area with tea and coffee, especially good if you are there much longer than you anticipated. Since I brought our dog alone (my husband stayed home with our son) the front desk staff gladly watch our pup when I needed to use the restroom. Being an open concept you can't help but overhear the phone calls taken by the staff from concerned pet parents. An item of note was call after call taken from concerned pet parents calling because their animal had ingested *insert food of concern*. Instead of telling people to come in without knowing if it was a true concern the staff and doctors asked numerous questions about the animal and food ingested to confirm if it was necessary for their animal to be brought in. I got the sense that they wanted to prevent someone from coming in needlessly, not only saving that person's finances but enabling them to focus on the ones that truly needed help. Keeping in mind this is an emergency clinic it's expected for there to be a premium with costs but what I observed was a staff that did what they could to provide care to their patients as effectively as possible. In one case a pair of rabbits were brought in that were sent home without charge. They were found to not actually be having an emergency but just needed to be given the correct amount of medication (the wife gave the husband the 'I told you so' look lol). Our Veg story: We brought our 9 month old puppy to VEG on Christmas day with a suspected intestinal blockage. My husband had called ahead so they were expecting us. After Cera's initial intake they provided an initial estimate which they were happy to scale back (we declined initial labs in favor of just getting x-rays to confirm the suspected blockage). They proposed a round of meds and fluids to see if the mass would have any movement and sent us home with instructions to return later that evening for a 2nd round of xrays. I took Cera home so we could have Christmas dinner with our family and brought her back after her kid went to bed. Unfortunately the 2nd x-rays confirmed the mass had not budged and surgical intervention was needed to save her life. When discussing Cera the doctor asked me questions about our family, I shared that Cera's kid, my 10 year old son, has autism and Cera was very important to him. She asked about their relationship and said it would be good to bring him to see her in the morning. They got Cera comfortable and they enabled me to stay with her until they were ready to start her surgery. I went home to get some sleep and the doctor called me a few hours later to report the surgery was successful. Later that morning I brought my son to see her. I had heard the doctor tell the staff about my son before her surgery and the staff were so kind and accommodating with my son, assuring him they would help her to come home as soon as she was able. We went home for dinner and later after I got him to bed I went back, prepared to spent a 2nd night there. Upon my arrival the doctor said that pending a good next few hours I should be able to take her home before morning. Keeping in mind our bill was more than I care to admit or thought I'd ever spending on vet care getting her home was not only good for her but meant we would have to be charged for a 2nd night's stay. Just after 1am I drove home with our sweet Cera and had a very happy son in the morning when he came downstairs to find us home. Our family is so grateful. Cera is doing great & expected to make a full recovery.

Too many times we have gone to a Vet emergency clinic, our dog taken away, and we sit in a room wondering what's going on and panicking about where our dog is, is she scared, not getting updates, not understanding anything. Our dogs are always terrified to go in, they HATE being taken away from us, and we hate it. That is NOT the case here. When they say open concept - they mean OPEN. You are seated in an area, WITH your pet. The doctor and nurses come to where you're sitting, they sit on the floor with you. You're sitting next to other patients and their people, sitting on other couches near you. You're seeing them x-ray, do labs, triage, etc. on every single pet that comes in the door. You see all the chaos going on in a Vet ER as they do their passdowns and triage. It all becomes visible, and we left there understanding two things: 1) veterinarian emergency is chaos. There's always something. There's always pets in need. And there's always people wondering what's going on and just as scared as their pets. 2) Being able to SEE that first hand, helped us understand, empathize, but also bond with other pets and their owners - as we all sat together, talked while we waited, and created a sense of community in during that time when stress is at it's highest, with our furry family members.

She was completely put at ease and submitted quietly. The team was diligent and kind with their questions without trying to upsell additional services, only giving me what I asked to be done. So refreshing... I was not shuffled to a different room, nor made to feel like it was a conveyor belt process. Amber was so at ease, it seemed like she was a total different cat. Especially since you offer $250 vet checks when they're adopted from HSSW Animal Shelter. These dogs are traumatized from being there and then their new home, especially German Shepherds. My 20 month old little girl, had been through a lot and I was working diligently to get her acclimated and trained. I even had one-on-one training sessions with a professional trainer. The visit to this clinic was a nightmare from the start, I asked for a side entrance because of her high prey drive and distain of other dogs, I was told they didn't have one. Instead I was escorted into the lobby, then a very tiny exam room, it was just horrible, as we were seated the vet enters and she is standing just a couple feet from us, my dogs body language was escalating, then she tried to approach, clearly not reading my dogs warning, my dog growled and was lunging toward her. She decided to get someone to assist her, I asked if she wanted me to muzzle her and she agreed. Upon her return w/o assistant, my girl was very nervous and anxious. The vet said I should wait in the lobby and she'd take her as she might do better without my presence, which I agreed. But then she reached over the dogs head for the leash, as I tried to get up, Suki muzzle punched her in the hip, everything thus far had been done wrong. From lobby to tiny room, us seated, vet standing, it was a nightmare. After just a few minutes an assistant approached and said, they would have to sedate her to treat her ear infection $400 And asked why? Shed just had them cleaned and treated for yeast at the shelter before I'd officially adopted her, and without incident, other than nonstop barking through the exam and treatment. But they insisted she needed to be fully under. After I picked her up the next day, I was given horrible advice from this unqualified to treat GSD's as she absolutely nothing about the breed. She told me to get a harness to restrain her. Anyone who knows the breed knows that a harness only allows them to pull more. She also told me that she needs to be on meds and to see a behavioralist so they could diagnose her and she could then write the prescription. I am on a fixed income and do not have that kind of money. Then she told me that if I didn't get her on meds, she could attack someone and likely turn on me, maybe not now but within 2 years. I was extremely distraught and upset when I left. First of all I know my dog, she doesn't! Besides the fact that I TOLD them of her issues before I made the appt. But no one listened to me and no concessions were made at all for her visit. It is my recommendation that your clinic listens to the client. And put a fear aggressive dog with a skilled Veterinarian that is familiar with the breed and their behaviors. She absolutely was not! Bottomline: -LISTEN to the dogs owner -Match dog to the Vet most qualified to handle. -Don't offer up information about a dog that you know nothing about. Especially when you created the entire ordeal in the first place. I'm sorry for the bad review but the advice I was given was completely wrong and had she known the behaviors of the breed she wouldn't have suggested the things she did! It was careless and irresponsible. My dog used to want to eat my cat, but with 4 months of hard work, gentle introductions my study of the breed, here we are today! The conversation we had on the day was a quick line about being frustrated that they weren't open and then to the conversation about the animal I was there with. I'm very sorry if she felt like I was trying to blame her. Additionally, I was assuming the event they had to close for was a last minute thing because I did not think a professional setting would have planned to be closed that day and not have any sort of notification. This review was specifically about my experience of the location. Personally, I would caution people from going to a business where the business manager spend his Sunday night looking up information on past patients (which I'm assuming happened because he was able to state a specific date) just to combat a bad review. TLDR: This used to be a wonderful place under Dr. Burton, but the new owners have ruined the good reputation and good will. Staff have been known to argue with people on their reviews so I'm sure a response defending themselves will be left on this one This was the best place when Dr. Burton ran it. Unfortunately, since it has been sold the experience has plummeted. Most of the staff was let go (though the new staff and owners will say they left voluntarily) and the consideration and willingness to work with patients has disappeared. What was previously a run in back with Dr. Burton for some blood tests and ended up being over $500 with no warning with the new owners. When I expressed confusion and concern that I had a massive bill that I had not been told about before the blood draw I was treated like I didn't know what I was talking about and quite literally had the card reader pushed towards me. When I asked if I could do a payment plan as I've done in the past with Dr. Burton as I had bills coming up and was not planning on spending over $500 I was told that that was no longer something that was offered and that I needed to pay right then and there. This on top of the fact that when the new owners took over there were days where the office was closed but there was no information about that put online nor was the voicemail updated. So anyone showing up for appointments that day were met with a paper on the front door saying they were closed and when I asked about it at a later time I was told the vet's son was moving into college and that it couldn't be helped. Again I was treated as if my questioning of why there had been no notice online was ridiculous and rude. If you are thinking of coming here because you've heard good things, I would highly recommend looking into some other locations. The high rating for this animal hospital is all thanks to Dr. Burton, and unfortunately he is no longer there
