The short version: they saved our dog. First off the thing to understand about this place is it's essentially 1 large open area so as a pet parent you see EVERYTHING. While they do have rooms for families to be in private or for waiting with a reactive animal you are in an open main area with other families and see the staff interacting with patients, parents and each other. IMO this makes the medicine they practice better because of the accountability. They have a small snack area with tea and coffee, especially good if you are there much longer than you anticipated. Since I brought our dog alone (my husband stayed home with our son) the front desk staff gladly watch our pup when I needed to use the restroom. Being an open concept you can't help but overhear the phone calls taken by the staff from concerned pet parents. An item of note was call after call taken from concerned pet parents calling because their animal had ingested *insert food of concern*. Instead of telling people to come in without knowing if it was a true concern the staff and doctors asked numerous questions about the animal and food ingested to confirm if it was necessary for their animal to be brought in. I got the sense that they wanted to prevent someone from coming in needlessly, not only saving that person's finances but enabling them to focus on the ones that truly needed help. Keeping in mind this is an emergency clinic it's expected for there to be a premium with costs but what I observed was a staff that did what they could to provide care to their patients as effectively as possible. In one case a pair of rabbits were brought in that were sent home without charge. They were found to not actually be having an emergency but just needed to be given the correct amount of medication (the wife gave the husband the 'I told you so' look lol). Our Veg story: We brought our 9 month old puppy to VEG on Christmas day with a suspected intestinal blockage. My husband had called ahead so they were expecting us. After Cera's initial intake they provided an initial estimate which they were happy to scale back (we declined initial labs in favor of just getting x-rays to confirm the suspected blockage). They proposed a round of meds and fluids to see if the mass would have any movement and sent us home with instructions to return later that evening for a 2nd round of xrays. I took Cera home so we could have Christmas dinner with our family and brought her back after her kid went to bed. Unfortunately the 2nd x-rays confirmed the mass had not budged and surgical intervention was needed to save her life. When discussing Cera the doctor asked me questions about our family, I shared that Cera's kid, my 10 year old son, has autism and Cera was very important to him. She asked about their relationship and said it would be good to bring him to see her in the morning. They got Cera comfortable and they enabled me to stay with her until they were ready to start her surgery. I went home to get some sleep and the doctor called me a few hours later to report the surgery was successful. Later that morning I brought my son to see her. I had heard the doctor tell the staff about my son before her surgery and the staff were so kind and accommodating with my son, assuring him they would help her to come home as soon as she was able. We went home for dinner and later after I got him to bed I went back, prepared to spent a 2nd night there. Upon my arrival the doctor said that pending a good next few hours I should be able to take her home before morning. Keeping in mind our bill was more than I care to admit or thought I'd ever spending on vet care getting her home was not only good for her but meant we would have to be charged for a 2nd night's stay. Just after 1am I drove home with our sweet Cera and had a very happy son in the morning when he came downstairs to find us home. Our family is so grateful. Cera is doing great & expected to make a full recovery. read more

I recently had to bring my 9‑year‑old Rottweiler to this veterinary ER after he suddenly stopped eating and began coughing. The team here correctly diagnosed him with right‑sided heart failure, even though the underlying cause wasn't immediately clear. Unfortunately, we had to return the next day as his condition rapidly declined, and he ultimately passed. I want to be very clear: his passing was not due to any lack of effort or care from this team. What stood out most was their open‑concept treatment area, which allows pet owners to stay right beside their animals during critical moments. Being able to stand next to my dog, see what was happening, and feel included in the process meant more than I can express. I can only imagine how stressful it must be for the staff to work with owners watching every move, yet they remained compassionate, calm, and focused the entire time. If I had to be picky, some of their equipment--like the ultrasound probe--was a bit small for a large‑breed dog, which made imaging more difficult. But even with that limitation, they still managed to accurately diagnose what was going on and worked with impressive speed to try to save his life. Despite the heartbreaking outcome, I left feeling grateful. They cared about my dog, and they cared about us. I would highly recommend this ER to anyone facing an emergency with their pet. read more

While our outcomes weren't what we'd hoped, I have to say for Vet emergencies - we will come here from now on. Too many times we have gone to a Vet emergency clinic, our dog taken away, and we sit in a room wondering what's going on and panicking about where our dog is, is she scared, not getting updates, not understanding anything. Our dogs are always terrified to go in, they HATE being taken away from us, and we hate it. That is NOT the case here. When they say open concept - they mean OPEN. You are seated in an area, WITH your pet. The doctor and nurses come to where you're sitting, they sit on the floor with you. You're sitting next to other patients and their people, sitting on other couches near you. You're seeing them x-ray, do labs, triage, etc. on every single pet that comes in the door. You see all the chaos going on in a Vet ER as they do their passdowns and triage. It all becomes visible, and we left there understanding two things: 1) veterinarian emergency is chaos. There's always something. There's always pets in need. And there's always people wondering what's going on and just as scared as their pets. 2) Being able to SEE that first hand, helped us understand, empathize, but also bond with other pets and their owners - as we all sat together, talked while we waited, and created a sense of community in during that time when stress is at it's highest, with our furry family members. read more

Private equity exists to squeeze the maximum profits from these centers, because they know, pet owners are desperate in an emergency. Clearly, by the name of this clinic, this group deals with so many stressful situations a day, but every single staff member and veterinarian we spoke with during our 8 hour visit made us feel in control of the situation and explained everything as it was happening. They have amazing people + animal skills and even with the open concept floor plan (which admittedly worried me as soon as we stepped through the door) I felt like we were in the right hands to deal with the emergency we had. The open concept is to help allow you to stay with your furry friend throughout the process which I believe definitely helped out with my patients nerves as well. Thankfully, our emergency was resolved and we were given a very detailed report of our visit as well as the diagnostics that were performed such as the X-rays. The cost was definitely up there, but I knew that it would be an expensive visit going to an emergency vet since all non emergency vets in the area were closed. I am mostly thankful that everything got resolved. The only true downside I saw, which may just be due to the newness of the clinic, was that they had limited veterinarians on staff, and for several hours only had one for the entire clinic. Once the second veterinarian arrived, the whole clinic seemed to have a better flow and we were given results/tests at a more consistent rate. My patient is all healthy now (and loving her VEG toy she was given during her visit) , and although I hope to never have to visit VEG again, I know that if I do, I will be in good hands. read more

as life goes, we've found ourselves at VEG two times since our first visit. both times, I'm in absolute awe. the commitment and passion for our non-human friends is so admirable and much appreciated. honestly, I dream of the day urgent cares for humans are just as friendly. the second visit, we found ourselves in a medical emergency hardly 12 hours after our first visit. our little guy is absolutely a toddler -- he's just under two years and despite the triage, he wasn't eating and was hiding. classic signs that our cat was hiding pain. he took him to VEG, and again, I appreciate how we were seen immediately. he was stable at the moment, but he was dehydrated and we were given some private space because he was a little scared. fast forward a couple hours, we had an ultrasound (there was a doctor who came in within hours!) and long and behold: it was extremely likely that our little mischievous guy had eaten something he wasn't supposed to. the only solution was exploratory abdomen surgery. going under anesthesia is so scary, and by this time, we were looking at an OR time of around midnight, but honestly, the staff didn't bat an eye. we were kept posted regularly and it wasn't long before we were holding a specimen container of plastic. oh dear. he was kept in observation for the next day to make sure all way OK and we needed to head to work, but the next doctor phoned us in the morning after examination and we were always invited to come in and see him. he was discharged that next evening, and we received super helpful discharge guidance on medicine and answering our questions. it's been 6 months since that surgery, but I'm so happy to share that our 2-year-old is back to his shenanigans with extra careful pet parents. ** a few weeks ago, we went to VEG a third time: suddenly, we discovered a large path of skin under his chin and bleeding. for a few weeks we tried putting a cone etc, but it wasn't working so we went to VEG for some help. I wish I caught the doctor's name, but he was such an expert and so professional and kind. turns out the cone was a bad idea, we got some medicine, and we were on our way. ** long story short, VEG Beaverton saved our sweet boy's life -- Dr. Valentine, Dr. Gunn and all the doctors and staff here are heroes. this is one of those places that I hope we never ever have to go to again, but I sleep better at night knowing there is someone who cares just as much as our sweet boy as we do. thank you, VEG! read more

This place was a godsend! Steve greeted us at the door and had the most gentle bedside manner. The level of hospitality was incredible. The facility was top-notch and incredibly clean and organized. We brought my mother's parrot in because he was frantically plucking at his chest and almost created a bleed. Teri, the vet tech was absolutely phenomenal with him. The way she was able to guide him out of his crate and handle him with such care made my mother-in-law so happy. Last Tuesday at 11:00PM my little Chihuahua puppy, Petunia, thought it would be a grand idea to jump off the bed. Unfortunately she broke her leg doing so. Having remembered seeing this new VEG clinic on KOIN News a couple weeks earlier we decided to take Petunia there. And I'm very glad I did. Petunia was triaged immediately upon walking in the door, and while her case wasn't a life-threatening emergency and we had to wait a bit they DID immediately give her a strong pain reliever until an exam could be done. Dr. Rachael Bernard and her staff (Stephany and Quin) were awesome the entire time, giving us frequent updates and allowing us to watch everything they were doing if we wanted to. They even had a comfortable seating area where I admittedly dosed off for a bit given it was very late at night/morning. The price was standard if not slightly cheaper than similar nearby clinics, and unfortunately I would know having owned pets locally for 25 years. (Make no mistake about it though...emergency vet care is going to be somewhat expensive no matter where you go.) The treatment Petunia received was top notch and I would absolutely go to VEG again if I needed to. BTW, for those who don't know, VEG was started by a compassionate vet who wanted to "Fix everything that's wrong with emergency vet care." I'd say he's doing just that! read more

My husband took our sweet chocolate lab Louie in to the Hillsboro, OR location on Super Bowl Sunday. He was very ill and could barely walk. The vet who looked at him did a quick ultrasound and told my husband that he had two choices ( because she told him that he had a bleeding tumor on his liver) that we could put him to sleep right then and there or take him to another vet for emergency surgery. My husband said he wouldn't do that without his mom there to say goodbye. He came home with pain medication and we would call our vet in the morning. When he got home with Louie, I got down on the floor with him and was saying that I would miss our walks on the beach and as soon as I said beach, his head popped up and his tail started to wag. We told each other that if he made it through the night, that we would take him down to the beach In the morning for one last walk. Well, in the morning he was still not quite right but we lifted him in the car and drove him to the beach. It is now April 4th and he is completely fine. Since then we had our neighbor try to poison another one of our dogs and after talking to our regular vet, she concurred that it was probably a poisoning that made him so sick! So, beware of the quick judgements at this place and go to Dove Lewis in Portland if your pets need emergency care! Every time we look at this silly dog playing with the other two and tearing around the house, we think about what if we had listened to her! NEVER take your pet anywhere but VEG (VetranaryEmergencyGroup)! I took my listless German Shepherd to another emergency clinic near to VEG first and after a thousand dollars and many hours, they sent me home and told me to see how he does in the morning and to schedule an ultra sound somewhere else. The next night he was worse and a friend recommended VEG to me so I took him there and it was a totally different experience! We called ahead, so they were expecting us. When we got there, they came out with a gurney, got my dog and literally 5 feet inside the door they pulled him off the gurney and 4 people were on him checking him. We were there 5 minutes when they diagnosed him with an enlarged prostate and a mass on his prostate. They did blood work, took an X-rays and did an ultrasound. They discovered that my boy was full of cancer throughout his body. I have never seen this business model in my life. You walk in the door and you're in the back room. There is no waiting room and reception, etc. You're right there with the employees, with the equipment, with other people and their pets. The first thing they told me was... I will not be separated from my pet at any time and I wasn't! I held him when they put in the IV, I held him when they did the exam, etc. They put us in a room with a kennel, couch that turns to a bed and blankets. They told me as long as my pet was there, I could stay there also. They even offered to go down the street to get me some dinner! The staff was experienced, compassionate and kind. When going over the radiology it was very apparent my boy was loaded with cancer. The vet teared up when letting me know there was nothing to be done. They have a 24/7 number that you can speak to the vet on site! 503-751-2082 All their equipment is the latest technology. It was an incredible experience except the outcome. I don't know why every veterinary hospital isn't modeled after this one. I heard that they even give their staff bereavement leave when they loose a pet! Check them out and trust me... You will never go two a "normal" animal hospital again. Oh, and their prices are not any higher than any Emergency vet. , they were actually less expensive than the one I went to the night before. read more

This place was incredible. My tiny pup got attacked by a coyote, and they immediately took him in. They were much friendlier to my dog than other vets in the area. I loved how open the space was, so I could see what was going on (though that was hard and a little heartbreaking to see). They allowed me to be close so I could help make my pup feel safe. They kept him overnight and texted me to let me know he had woken up, was doing better, and had eaten. When I got there to pick him up, I was expecting him to be in one of their kennels, which made me terribly sad to think about, but he was hanging out in a sling around one of the doctors. Apparently, he was a bit of a crybaby, and got held by many of the staff. They said they loved him . They explained everything thoroughly and checked with each other to make sure they were giving me accurate directions. They welcomed me to call if I had any further questions. They made me and, I think, my dog feel taken care of. The missing star is for the cost. Thank God I have insurance because my bill came out to be $1,900+. read more

Excellent care. I have been to a couple of emergency vet clinics over the past few years and this by far was our best experience. The staff was top rate, from the front desk to our doctor. The facility is open and you see all the treatments that are being done. Personally, we got there at a perfect time, we literally walked in and the doctor was ready for us. During the exam and injections, they made sure our Izzy was comfortable and afterwards, even gave us referrals in the community for her other conditions. The doctor and nurses were knowledgeable and did throughout exams, but didn't push any extra procedures on us. They triaged well and as we were there an emergency came in they were taken care of immediately. They only perform emergency visits so please know this is for that condition that you need to know what it is right away, and that is costly, but no more than other emergency centers and they gave me a bill to submit to our pet insurance. I would love to say we won't be back but knowing our 2 dogs and cat, I will say that if we need emergency care, we have found our place. Thank you, Izzy's family! read more

Came in with our very sick German Shepherd. He hadn't been 3 steps in the doorway before he was being assessed by 2 people. In the next 10 seconds they called out a "stat" triage. Within the next 10 seconds there were no less that 7 tech's / doctors working to help Frank. AMAZING !! Sadly, our sweet Frank was overcome with cancer and he passed. I just want anyone who reads this to know that if they have a sick animal and want thorough, compassionate and experienced care you will move heaven and earth to come here. When we realized Frank was terminal, they stabilized him so his Dad could get there from work over an hour away and allowed him that time and all he needed to grieve. WOW It was the most horrible day, solved through loving and understanding people. They handled every aspect in a compassionate way from the grief to the payment process. No rush or demands. By far the best Veterinary Hospital I have been to. While on vacation to Oregon my dog daughter decided eating a rock would be the best way to start our vacation. I called ahead and the staff that answered were super helpful in helping me get checked in prior to arrival. As soon as I arrived my baby and I were greeted by the best front staff Lisa and Scott. Update: Dr. Bernard called to apologize and gave me the prescription Dr Rodriguez refused to give me. She also clarified that they didnt have a policy for not giving out food prescriptions so I'm not sure what Dr Rodriguez was on about. I know they are still new and it sounds like they have some stuff to figure out. My dog is slowly doing better overall which I'm really happy about. I would recommend VEG but will personally be avoiding Dr. Rodriguez as I feel she was unkind over a simple request for a prescription for canned food for my dog's upset tum. All I wanted was to keep my dog on the same diet while she recovered, a very reasonable request. Giving an extra star because I feel my dog was treated kindly but I really feel their staff could use some training on how to treat pet owners. It's already a stressful experience dealing with a sick dog and their unclear communication led to frustration on both sides. I came in with my dog on Sunday who was on her second day of bloody diarrhea. We were there for 3 hours and my dog got an IV for dehydration, probiotics and Dr Bernard recommended a bland diet. I asked for canned digestive prescription food because my dog had been on that for a week last time she had diarrhea and it is convenient instead of making chicken and rice. Dr Bernard said that was a good idea because it has extra nutrients that chicken and rice doesn't have. I didn't realize the 3 cans I got from them would only last me 1.5 days until today I call to ask for a prescription. Dr Rodriguez said on the phone she didn't want to keep giving her the canned food because if "she isn't improving she needs to come in". I was so confused because I was told by Dr Bernard it would take up to a week for her stool to fully return to normal and I didn't understand why they refused to just prescribe the food. She rudely told me she could "give me a couple cans" and to come pick them up. When I get to the vet I mention I'm there to pick up food and all the staff just looks at me confused. They eventually bring out 1 can and I got upset because the feeding guide for my dog is 1.5 cans per day and that's still not enough to get her through the week. I begin expressing my frustrations and eventually I understand the miscommunication. During my phone conversation Dr. Rodriguez never mentioned that the reason she didn't want me to keep having canned food was because an ER vet doesn't charge for it and it's "not their policy to prescribe food" so I wasn't paying for it. This whole time I was under the assumption I had been paying for the food. She decided to argue with me instead and all of this could have been avoided if she had just been more clear and asked me to get the prescription from my primary instead of acting like I need to bring my dog in again because she still has diarrhea after 1.5 days. Also I paid 400 dollars for the visit, each can of prescription food is $4 at Petco right now soooooo..... ??????? They should have just kindly explained their policy instead of having me drive 40 mins to deal with their poor customer service. read more

Came here because my kitty wasn't feeling very well. The amount of waiting for an answer on what to do and what's going on was very frustrating. Waited well over an hour with the impression that if I couldn't afford treatment that this could be the end of the road for my kitty when that wasn't true at all. The prices for treatment is an absolute joke. If you want better care and better pricing I'd look elsewhere. Was quoted $5,900 for treatment then another emergency vet quoted me $1,500 for the same procedure + an extra day of care. People here seem nice and the vet we talked to referred us to another vet because of how expensive they are. Honestly I'd steer clear of this place unless you have deep pockets and don't care how you spend your money. read more

My family vet found fluid in my cat's chest and recommended taking him to a 24 hour emergency clinic. We ended up having to put him down but the staff was amazing. They were so knowledgeable and compassionate. They made us all feel comfortable and provided excellent care. read more

This clinic was so wonderful in the way they cared for our really sick 13 year old golden retriever. They got him in quickly and started treating him immediately. They were kind, compassionate, and competent. They explained the situation to us very clearly and were realistic in explaining our options. We appreciated their patience as we processed the next steps. We couldn't have asked for better care at a really hard time. read more
