My cat weeks after being in their "care"

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Unfortunately I haven't had a good experience at this vet with Dr. Ross and will not be returning.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ended up taking my cat here after I noticed signs of him having an upper respiratory infection. I am not from the area my husband travels for work so we are here temporarily. My cat has a PCP with all of his history/up to date information, but being in a new area we knew he needed to get treated quickly. When I called I gave them his PCP's information so they could see all of his history. The first appointment I realized she hadn't gone through any of his history as she kept making comments about my cat being deflated and having rapid muscle loss. I adopted my cat nearly a decade ago at the weight of 22lbs and successfully got him down to 10lbs. He has loose skin from this weight loss but he's been a healthy weight for over 7 years. This isn't the biggest deal honestly but it just let me know she didn't read his history when they had access to it. That appointment they did blood work, a urinalysis and an exam. He was sent home with an antibiotic and saline nasal drip. My cat has IBD so antibiotics can really mess up his tummy. I requested probiotics and within 2 weeks of starting the medication he was having some digestive issues. That's no fault of the doctor but when he was straining at the box / still not feeling well I decided to bring him back in. The second appointment started with her saying that he is deflated and having rapid muscle loss? And an order for blood work and urinalysis. I said we just did blood work/ urinalysis and he used to be over weight...she didn't even realize it was the same cat she saw just a weeks ago. I know they see tons of animals but all of that could be avoided by checking his history/chart. I left the appointment with no answers and over $800 and my cat is still sick. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called 4 days ago and explained that I didn't feel very good after the last appointment and my cat is still very sick even with the completed dose of antibiotics. They said they would let the doctor know and call me back. No one ever did.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called again was told I would get a call yesterday and I never did.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I ended up taking him to urgent care as I didn't want to wait around for a phone call that ended up never happening - at this point he's been sick since the end of September[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He received great care and has improved so much. I ended being informed the first antibiotic he was put on from this clinic didn't seem appropriate for his infection. It didn't treat a broad amount of bacteria. He's on something much more effective now. TLDR; didn't go over history, didn't realize it was the same cat when I brought him back in, no follow up care after being informed the medications didn't work, expensive, and my cat was still very sick.

Lilly and her red paws before Cytopoint. Now she can finally run without stopping to lick!

Thank you for hiring Shane. Not only is he an awesome vet tech but he's so knowledgeable and has really helped us. He has previous experience with pet PT and when our dog Lucca tore his ACL he was so knowledgeable and helpful and really helped educate us about the process and help put our frazzled minds at ease during a very stressful time. I also want to thank Shane so, so much for mentioning Cytopoint to us as a potential options to talk about with the vet to help our poor licking girl get some relief. She is like a totally different dog on it, able to relax instead of licking her paws till they bleed! It is a real game changer for all of us, she couldn't deal with other common prescriptions like Ketoconozole because they made her very ill. I will be recommending this to every dog owner I know with a pup suffering from an itchy condition! Thank you so much for taking good care of our Lilly & Lucca! Both veterinarians are very nice and take good care of the pups when they see them.

    Very clean and great staff!!!

This place is wonderful, they made sure to take me in right away. Helped my little Oreo and very kind staff! I will be coming back!

When I got him home only the right side of his mouth was cleaned and he was adversely affected by the anesthesia for two weeks. For dental care, do not come here. Especially since you offer $250 vet checks when they're adopted from HSSW Animal Shelter. These dogs are traumatized from being there and then their new home, especially German Shepherds. My 20 month old little girl, had been through a lot and I was working diligently to get her acclimated and trained. I even had one-on-one training sessions with a professional trainer. The visit to this clinic was a nightmare from the start, I asked for a side entrance because of her high prey drive and distain of other dogs, I was told they didn't have one. Instead I was escorted into the lobby, then a very tiny exam room, it was just horrible, as we were seated the vet enters and she is standing just a couple feet from us, my dogs body language was escalating, then she tried to approach, clearly not reading my dogs warning, my dog growled and was lunging toward her. She decided to get someone to assist her, I asked if she wanted me to muzzle her and she agreed. Upon her return w/o assistant, my girl was very nervous and anxious. The vet said I should wait in the lobby and she'd take her as she might do better without my presence, which I agreed. But then she reached over the dogs head for the leash, as I tried to get up, Suki muzzle punched her in the hip, everything thus far had been done wrong. From lobby to tiny room, us seated, vet standing, it was a nightmare. After just a few minutes an assistant approached and said, they would have to sedate her to treat her ear infection $400 And asked why? Shed just had them cleaned and treated for yeast at the shelter before I'd officially adopted her, and without incident, other than nonstop barking through the exam and treatment. But they insisted she needed to be fully under. After I picked her up the next day, I was given horrible advice from this unqualified to treat GSD's as she absolutely nothing about the breed. She told me to get a harness to restrain her. Anyone who knows the breed knows that a harness only allows them to pull more. She also told me that she needs to be on meds and to see a behavioralist so they could diagnose her and she could then write the prescription. I am on a fixed income and do not have that kind of money. Then she told me that if I didn't get her on meds, she could attack someone and likely turn on me, maybe not now but within 2 years. I was extremely distraught and upset when I left. First of all I know my dog, she doesn't! Besides the fact that I TOLD them of her issues before I made the appt. But no one listened to me and no concessions were made at all for her visit. It is my recommendation that your clinic listens to the client. And put a fear aggressive dog with a skilled Veterinarian that is familiar with the breed and their behaviors. She absolutely was not! Bottomline: -LISTEN to the dogs owner -Match dog to the Vet most qualified to handle. -Don't offer up information about a dog that you know nothing about. Especially when you created the entire ordeal in the first place. I'm sorry for the bad review but the advice I was given was completely wrong and had she known the behaviors of the breed she wouldn't have suggested the things she did! It was careless and irresponsible. My dog used to want to eat my cat, but with 4 months of hard work, gentle introductions my study of the breed, here we are today! I have had my girl now 5 months and she is a wonderful dog.

That is saying something as I, myself, am a human medical professional. He is gentle and genuinely cares for the pets, gives good advice in an almost off-hand manner, and refers to other practices if treatment would surpass the capacity of his own. His practice is limited, so don't expect a fancy ER or ICU for pets, but he does an amazing job diagnosing and understanding small animals. And the psychology of their owners, as well. That's another issue. He is straight foreward, thorough and knowledgeable and he has little interest in expensive add-ons or padding the bill. His charges are reasonable, especially considering the bills one finds at local 'animal hospitals' which border on human-scale expensive. I have also had him 'put down' a pet who was beyond hope and he is sensitive and responsive to such grim occasions. I can think of nothing unkind to say.

We wound up moving our other animals over because the care and love they show all the animals is beyond evident. When it came time to say goodbye to our GSD due to an aggressive liver cancer, Heather communicated with me via text on a Friday afternoon to get Loki seen at an urgent care since they were booked. She then continued to touch base throughout the day as we got appointments set, records forwarded to the other clinic and then fit us in with a last minute Saturday appointment so he could cross the rainbow bridge and shed his pain. The texts were beyond appreciated as I could barely speak without bawling. Dr Primley was also compassionate and comforting as we said goodbye to our gentle giant Saturday afternoon and I cannot thank them enough for the kindness and care they showed us during that difficult time. I highly recommend them to anyone needing care for their fur babies.

A Rollercoaster Experience at Hearthwood Veterinary Hospital: Good to BAD to LOL…read more Strap in, folks, because this ride at Hearthwood Veterinary Hospital is all about highs and lows, with a heavy dose of mystery. My debut was good Dr. Dena Baumgartner, (picture shown on their website below), savvy vet tech (picture not shown), and the vibe that my furball and my wallet were in good hands. But hold onto your hats, because round two veers into the twilight zone. The plot thickens with their photo policy - so cloaked in mystery it could star in its own detective novel. I wanted to document my pet's first happy vet visit. If Hearthwood was a book, it'd be titled 'Why We Hide.' Auditing seems overdue, doesn't it? Then there's the 'VIP (Very Isolated Pets)' treatment - pets and owners parting ways for procedures, waving more red flags than a matador. Me and my sidekick? We don't play that game. We took our paws elsewhere after a peek behind the curtain revealed too many unanswered questions. They wanted to separate me from my pet for a simple booster shot. I thought that was odd since we were already in a private room and they were holding the shot in their hand. Wouldn't you think that was odd? Don't even get me started on time - or the lack thereof. This tech (see picture below) is 45 minutes late for the appointment. As you can see, she is less 'fashionably late.' It's not just about the wait; it's the principle. Most people count that as a "no show" at 20 minutes? Where do you draw the line? 15, 30 min? If it was the other way around they would easily charge me a "no show" fee. They also charged me wellness exam fee of some $60 which I did not authorize nor was I advised that a exam was being conducted. Bottom line: If you're shopping for a vet where secrets don't shadow simple check-ups and respect for your time is a given, let my story be your compass. It's time to vote with our feet, because the path to change is paved with our choices. In America, we vote with our dollar. And people like this business need to respect that. I hope people who read this review note that I was not offered an apology or a refund. Transparency, accountability, and punctuality aren't just nice-to-haves; they're must-haves.
