I spent 13 hrs. in the ER waiting to be seen by the doctor. I was having chest pains and shortness…read moreof breath. I was evaluated pretty quickly. It included blood pressure, EKG, blood work, urinalysis, etc. This ruled out a life-threatening emergency . I was reevaluated every few hrs or so. At that point, I could have left since a heart attack was ruled out, or I'm sure I would have received immediate care. A triage nurse has extra training in emergency evaluations. I was seen by the doctor after 14 hrs. of waiting and then admitted for two days. This is just my opinion. I think a lot of the people in the ER could have gone to an urgent care or waited to see their doctor the next day. Some people did leave. I guess they decided they weren't that sick. The wait time is ridiculous, but what can the hospital and staff do when people keep coming in. There are also ambulances coming in as well. The staff did their best to make people as comfortable as possible. In my opinion the staff work very hard to take care of the patients. I don't know what the solution is, but I do know it's people much higher up that need to fix the problem . It's sure not the staff.

The supervisor around the department very well although you wouldn't really know she was the supervisor because she blended in so well with her team they were always friendly always on time and always helpful. I learned much More about my heart from this group of women. Participates come and go as they complete the program and they are always complementary about the program. I'm so glad that I was able to participate. It was nice too that they were able to work with me. There's some appointment changes that I needed. I would recommend this program to anyone that's had cardio issues. It was great.

My very elderly dad was taken to the St. Joe ER rather than his usual hospital as it was closer to…read morehis home. We heard about bad reviews so we were surprised how well he was treated. He probably went through ER fairly fast as he had a severe breathing issue. He saw plenty of different doctors because he had several issues, the 5th floor nurses were great and helpful to answer our questions. Only issue was communication with the food service - since Dad was on a special diet they sent him wrong stuff a few times. After almost 2 weeks, he recovered enough and got into the rehab wing where he has a big private room and 3 different therapists to keep him busy.

One thing I particularly hate about hospitals is how long you have to wait-while you're waiting for the next step, but here I feel like my wait times were pretty reasonable. My wife was brought to St Joseph by ambulance when she was unable to breathe at 3 am. Like so many…read moreothers we had only seen negative reviews of this hospital and were a little worried. The staff was fantastic. The ER nurses and doctors were so helpful and knowledgeable walking us thru everything they were doing and addressing all of our concerns. They were able to get her into a position that allowed her to breathe easier. They then got in touch with an ENT doctor who was able to scope her throat bedside right in the ER to see what the obstruction was. He told us that based on a quick visual it looked like a large polyp and was able to remove it that afternoon. Obviously it will need to be sent to a lab for a biopsy but his confidence and bedside manner really calmed our fears. The surgical team walked us through what was going to happen and after the anesthesia team put her to sleep, it took the doctor about 10 minutes to remove the obstruction. About 2 hours later we were back at home.
