I spent 13 hrs. in the ER waiting to be seen by the doctor. I was having chest pains and shortness of breath. I was evaluated pretty quickly. It included blood pressure, EKG, blood work, urinalysis, etc. This ruled out a life-threatening emergency . I was reevaluated every few hrs or so. At that point, I could have left since a heart attack was ruled out, or I'm sure I would have received immediate care. A triage nurse has extra training in emergency evaluations. I was seen by the doctor after 14 hrs. of waiting and then admitted for two days. This is just my opinion. I think a lot of the people in the ER could have gone to an urgent care or waited to see their doctor the next day. Some people did leave. I guess they decided they weren't that sick. The wait time is ridiculous, but what can the hospital and staff do when people keep coming in. There are also ambulances coming in as well. The staff did their best to make people as comfortable as possible. In my opinion the staff work very hard to take care of the patients. I don't know what the solution is, but I do know it's people much higher up that need to fix the problem . It's sure not the staff. read more

OUTPATIENT TESTING LABS... Went for fasting bloodwork at 8AM. Staff couldn't find doctor's order-which I later found out was incorrectly married to a different test a week later, so was denied the bloodwork and had to go home. When contacting the central scheduling agent to rebook the appointment, she found the order. Had they been trained properly to look further, they would have found the order and done the test. This is a medical facility with poor training as well as lack of concern and respect for the patient. This disconnect is an issue that doctor's office staffs admit has been going on for years. My doughtier had a major surgery just 3 days ago with complications and pneumothorax. After getting home she experienced shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea. As advised by the doctor we went to ER at SCH at 8 :15 pm. we got ECG and blood test in first hour , as well as med Ins information so they can bid us . After spending 12.5 hours in the waiting room overnight, my daughter was finally assigned a bed. RN came in, took her vital signs, and told us a doctor would see her shortly.Two more hours passed, and nobody came to check on her. We pressed the call button, and when the nurse arrived, even she seemed surprised that a doctor still hadn't seen us. It took a total of 15 hours before an ER physician finally came to evaluate my daughter. As a parent, I have never felt more helpless, frustrated, and neglected than I did watching my daughter suffer while we waited for care. I understand that emergency departments can be busy, but a lack of communication and such an extreme delay is unacceptable.This experience left me deeply disappointed. The healthcare system is clearly under tremendous strain, but patients and families deserve better communication, attention, and timely care during what are often some of the most stressful moments of their lives. read more

What a mess. My husband brought me here first for the lumbosacral root pain. The ER was packed and I sat in a wheelchair with horrific muscle spasms. The staff were somewhat attentive. The ER doctor gave me a muscle relaxer but nothing for the pain. After being discharged, I suffered three more days before my husband took me to the ER in Indiana where I was admitted for 7 days. Horrible wait times. Was called by my Dr and told I need to be admitted immediately to start IV antibiotics based on my blood work results. There is no option for being admitted than to go thru the ER... upon arrival was told I was not a priority and waited over 12 hrs to be admitted so I could start the serious long term IV antibiotics I needed. read more

I went to Silver Cross urgent care with chest discomfort and shortness of breath and they advised me to go to the emergency room at Silver Cross Hospital. After blood testing and imaging showed nothing heart related , the doctor thought I should stay overnight for a stress test. They put me in an observation room on the first floor near the ER. The first thing I noticed was a toilet right out in the open. Not even a curtain around the toilet. No bathroom, no sink with mirror, no shower. Basically just the exposed toilet, a bed, a trash can and a utility sink with a used cup and straw sitting there. There also was a large window, about 4' x 4' with no blinds or covering. If anyone walked past outside that window they could see everything in the room. When I went for a CT I was left in a cold hallway with several other people for about 30 minutes before I got the test. When I got back to the room I told the nurse there was no way I could stay in a room that offered no privacy and stripped me of my dignity. He told me that I didn't have a choice. I told him that I wasn't staying and to remove the IV port from my arm and get me the paperwork to sign myself out. Horrible experience. I've been to their emergency room twice and both times have left me feeling traumatized. You couldn't pay me to go back there. read more

Unfortunately the 4th time one of my parents was in the hospital at Silver Cross. Another awful experience. Call light was pushed and no one ever came; I just happened to notice it was turned off. They are allowed to answer and hang it up from the nurse's station instead of getting up to see what the patient wants. Pain pill SCHEDULED for my mother (not PRN) at 2:00 pm. At 3:00 pm my mother put her call light button on to ask for it and finally at 3:25 I walked to the nurses station because no one had answered it. 3:25!!!!! 25 MINUTES!!!! The other frustrating thing was that at 12:00 they took my mother's blood pressure, and it was critically high. At 3:30 I asked if they were ever going to recheck it or just wait til she strokes out. The next time they need care they will be going elsewhere. What an awful experience again!!! read more

Imagine walking into an emergency room that's practically empty except for a sign that reads "expect to wait up to 7hrs", but what they don't tell you is that it's dependent on your skin tone! 6 hours in, it's pretty evident when the only people that keep getting pushed to the back of the line are of a specific ethnicity! As I entered Pavilion A (1890 Silver Cross Blvd) I was greeted with a genuine and friendly smile at the Information/Check-In Desk by Debbie M. a volunteer. Debbie M. was very kind and helpful in directing me to the Outpatient Testing Center. As I arrived at the Patient Registration/Waiting Area I was greeted with a smile from a very kind and helpful Alex Arrioga. Alex registered me for the Electromyography Test. At this time Sue an EMG Tech took me to the room where she explained the procedure to me in a calm, compassionate, and clear manner. Sue responded to me in such a sweet and truly caring manner as to make me feel very much relaxed as she performed the 1st part of the test. My son admitted for GB surgery. Post op his B/P went up, they gave him BP med. One dose. It went up again 160s. He was in pain, couldn't pee except for a tiny amount. The nurse said " that's ok as long as he's peeing." They discharged him. One day later I took him to ER in Morris for pain, urinary retention and high heart rate. Morris hosp IMMEDIATELY got his heart rate stabilized, catherized him ( 1200 mls out) and relieved his pain. The discharge nurse at SCH was rude, too. Ignored all our concerns and when I asked her what B/P meds she was injecting she said " why, do you know about meds?" That doesn't matter ( even tho I'm a nurse) everyone has a right to know what is getting injected into their body... You wouldn't think they cld f up a POST OP GB surgery but they did. Wouldn't take a dog to that hosp. I Will discourage anyone from going there. read more

I don't even know where to start with being so furious and in pain still after leaving here 2 months ago. I was admitted and arrived by ambulance on 12-4-24. After waking up, I was told I had a broken spinal cord & that was it. Afternoon, I was told I would be having surgery done the following day. Here's where the fun begins. Day 1 Night I was lying in bed hooked up to IV in my left arm. Problem was the IV was not securely in my arm & was constantly dripping down my arm & the alarm from the machine going off. Was the IV in my arm ever fixed? NO. Instead, the nurse at night got sick of coming back and forth to my room & shut the noise/beeping off & the last I ever saw of her. The left side of my bed was soaking wet from the IV dripping down my arm & not into my body. Day 2 AM into PM Surgery on my back was done. After surgery, all my Dr. did was come in my room & brag about what a great job he did & how easy this difficult procedure went. Okay, can I go home now? I guess not. Nobody will give me an answer. Day 2 Afternoon into Evening I'm just watching tv, roaming around room and hallway. What fun. Nurses change. This new nurse with glasses is where things started irritating me. I'm sitting up on my bed talking with wife and that "THING" decides to come in my room and start yelling at me. She throws the security device that beeps on my bed, throw the guard rails up and forces me not to move off the pad. I am now being told I am not allowed to leave the pad. Well, I got up, moved to stretch. She comes in my room and starts yelling at me, forcing me back to sit on the security alarm pad and gives me warnings. I also get yelled at for eating a pretzel my wife had. Day 2 Evening New nurse swap. THANK GOD. This one doesn't care that I'm not sitting on the security pad and that I put the guardrails down to get off the bed. Well... I'm starving, I haven't eaten any form of food since the morning of Day #1 arriving at the hospital. I ask the nurse, is there any way to order/eat some form of food? All I ate was a single pretzel in 2 days. Oh yeah, it's super easy we have a food menu and a number you can call to order it! Where is this menu? It's on the other side of the room, in a drawer, underneath the TV to the left of it. How the hell was I supposed to ever find this thing? If I didn't ask since I was dying from hunger, I never would've known about this. Here's where a big problem will start. Supposedly I'm only allowed a liquid diet??? When we get to Day #3 you'll get why I'm now even more pissed. Fine, whatever. I order beef broth and pop and call it a night with tv and sleep. Why? Because nobody can help me or knows why I'm still there and can't go home yet. Day 3 Early Morning around 6 AM Wake up, watch tv and order my wonderful liquid breakfast of 2 broths and pop. I just ate that crap and put the tv back on. NOW, I'M ABOUT TO GET EVEN MORE TICKED OFF. One of the Dr.'s who was assigned to me finally comes back to see how I was doing. Well, I haven't seen him since Day #1. I ask him, why can't I eat real food & only allowed liquids? He looks confused/puzzled when I ask that, turns around and looks at my board and says... Oh that's not right, there's no reason for you to ever be on a liquid only diet. REALLY???? I could've ate food for the past 2 days? Hospital screwed up. Not even a sorry. -8 AM, order more food & finally eat food on Day #3 in here. Day 3 around Noon Dr. #2, haven't seen since Day #1, comes right before Noon, how are doing!?!? FINE. Am I allowed to get off this bed? Am I allowed to go home? I have now been sitting here for almost 24 hours puzzled of what's going on and why I'm still here. Oh yeah, if you want to go home there's no problem with that. We can get you out of here. Day 3 around 5 pm I have now been sitting here for almost 5 hours waiting to go home. Finally, they let me go home. The messed up IV has caused my left elbow to not work right and it hurts to bend my arm. It also looks like I have a fractured right hand from the accident that was not treated while I was there. There is so much more, I don't have the time to type. I do have time to contact lawyers about what happened here. read more

If you want the frustrating experience of the least amount of communication, follow through, and support -- this is your hospital. Not only did they miscommunication scheduling for my surgery, they told me I would be same-day when the doctor instructed for an overnight stay, so that was sprung on me without notice. They sent me to closed locations for blood tests, miscommunicated hours, and then I had to make 4 REQUESTS for an itemized bill. I do not trust they are billing me correctly, but could not provide the itemized and was told verbatim "they see where I made the requests but they have not been submitted on our end". If they can't get the simple stuff done correctly, how can one trust them with surgeries, procedures or any kind of health support? It's a joke. read more

My Mom was transported by Ambulance to Silver Cross Hospital.The RN Tiffany was wonderful. We had good care for about 11 hours. After going up to the room 6414 the care was just mediocre. Nurses and CNA's were on their cell phones and mom was left in the chair for4 hours. I had to ask for the most basic services. No help with a bath teeth brushing changing her gown etc until I asked. I thought this was standard care for an elderly lady that couldn't do anything for herself after a episode and near fall. Very disappointed!! I wish we had other choices for care. read more

On 02/23/2025; I needed to have an elderly family member transported to Silver Cross Hospital, due to a fall. My family member was brought into an ER room, and I had to sit in the ER waiting area for 30 minutes. My elderly family member is hard of hearing and has early onset Alzheimer's, so I am guessing she could not hear or answer the ER staff's questions. Then when I was allowed back we spent 4 hours waiting for any information. We were finally told they were admitting her and she was having surgery the following day. No one from the hospital staff discussed that with us. The following day we again were told they would operate, but we were given no information. Then the orthopedic doctor said no surgery, but later a tech comes in and does a post operative echocardiogram, when there is going to be no surgery. That lady was very rude also, referring to a family member that was with me as a monster. Very professional. There is a serious lack of communication at this hospital and a lack of care. read more

Trying to schedule out patient testing. Called and was told to call back in 45 minutes. They are not caught up on the faxed orders. I said you'll be closed at that time. As it was 4pm. She said no, we shut the phones off at 5pm. So I call back. While waiting for someone to pick up, at 4:50pm, I was sent to another line that I formed me they are now closed. As your on hold you hear how they have received 19 "A's" in a row. HOW??? Their customer service is the worse. I truly wish my doctor used a different hospital. Now I have to wait until Monday to call. As today is Friday. Be warned. Go some where else. read more

I've sent countless requests to Silver Cross Hospital's medical records request fax number since October 2021, and I have not received any correspondence; in fact, I receive an undeliverable error message. A healthcare professional at this facility restrained me for 48 consecutive hours while I was in the hallway on a stretcher in the ER. I was simply changing into my hospital gown and I accidentally hit the nurse as she was getting up from grabbing something from a cabinet. It was an accident. I was trying to maneuver getting the gown and she accused me of hitting her. While I was in restraints for those 48 consecutive hours on 12/31/18-01/02/19, I expressed a bowel movement inside of stainless steel bowl that was provided to me. The law states that if an individual is restrained for all or part of 24 hours, or if the individual has been secluded during all or part of 16 hours, he or she may not be restrained or secluded at all during the next 48 hours without written permission from the facility director. Furthermore, when a restraint is imposed, the facility has to advise the patient of his or her right to notify any person he or she chooses of the implemented restraints, such as a legal guardian or attorney. Your facility failed to do that. * Your facility also failed to address my autism * Your facility also accused me of having an eating disorder * Your facility also accused me of vomiting in my bathroom, when really all I was doing was reciting mantras * Your facility simply failed to accommodate a patient in crisis While I would like to get my records ASAP, I do not want to hire an attorney to expedite this process, so please advise. read more

First, note how Debra R. / Business Owner responds to negative reviews with the same standard response. This shows that there is zero concern. This is a decent hospital, unfortunately administration/management is where the problem is. There is no excuse for wait times of 12-14 hours plus for any emergency period! I understand that some emergencies take precedence over others but this is not a small hospital. Hire more doctors, nurses and general staff. Do something! The triage, and phlebotomists were very nice but unfortunately they can't control a 14 hour wait. I felt bad for them having sick and angry people continually asking when they will be seen. I saw some really ill people waiting for hours to no end. So sad of that these patients were treated the way they were. This hospital has the most negative reviews of any hospital I've seen. From the medical perspective, I think they did ok. From a staffing perspective, they were awful. 14 hour wait in the emergency room. The first night I spent there, I had not eaten in many hours. I was finally allowed to eat and my nurse "z" told me she was going to get me something to eat. I waited an hour. Nothing. I called her on her nurse phone and someone else answered and said this was not "z's" phone and z had another phone. I asked her to help me find "Z" she said she couldn't help with that. The I went out to the nurses station and ask them if they could get me some crackers. No. Gotta get them from Z who is nowhere to be found. Two hours later "z" shows up in the room and said she was coming to check on me because she didn't even know I was trying to find her. I'm sure she is overworked, but when people are sick, they need nursing care, that's why they are in the hospital. Pat - a male nurse I had the morning I was leaving. His phone didn't work either. He told me his phone didn't work and I should walk out to the nurses station or yell loud if I needed him. He was condescending and spent most of his time sitting at the nurse station. I was finally discharged. The hospitalist came in and told me I would be dischaow rged after I spoke to the surgeon. the surgeon came in and spoke to me. I called an uber. Pat told me how I could find the exit. As I was leaving Pat said "your primary is not happy". I asked him if there was something I didn't know that I needed to know. He said "just be sure to follow up because the sample they took from our abdomen could be cancer". Really!!!!!!! Nobody has even reallly mentioned that possibility yet. I had certainly considered it. He was ignorant and unprofessional. I will not be back to silver cross. read more

Horrible service. Tried to get an appointment with a doctor and the call is routed to offshore customer service. It's like calling Amazon.com! Can't talk to the doctor about test results; can't even talk to a nurse. You can only talked to a "medical assistant" who went to trade school for nine months. I've never dealt with a health system like this before. I'm supposed to take medical advise from 20 year olds who went to trade school for nine months? I won't be back. Plenty of other health care systems have portals where you can email your doctor and where the doctor personally takes the initiative to email you about things like test results. I was in the ER almost a year ago. The wait time was ridiculous. When I was admitted l, I was put in a room with a toilet in the middle of the room with no doors or privacy. The nurses were great, and the ENT I finally saw was great. But the staff doctors were rude and didn't want to answer questions. Then they sent in a speech pathologist that was unnecessary abd unhelpful. She didn't do anything and said the exact opposite of what the specialist had told me to do. Months later and we are still fighting over the bill. They should not be able to send arbitrary people in to visit a patient if services are not covered by the insurance. It's mainly the 5th floor that is horrible. I've been in patient at least 4 times on the same floor. Each time the nurses and cnas are sweet when you first get to the floor after that you are an inconvenience to them. I had a total knee replacement on 12/3/24. The nurses would wait until the pain was unbearable to finally bring in pain medicine. It was so bad I wanted to end my life due to the pain. Then they treat you like you're a drug addict and they lie. My husband was the one who put me on the bed pan because the cnas were non existent. Then they lie and said I hadn't used the bathroom and had to do a bladder scan to make sure I wasn't retaining urine. Well if they would have answered the call light and come into let me use the bathroom my husband wouldn't have had to. So my insurance was billed for a unnecessary scan because the staff was too lazy to do their job. They would come in at start of shift and ghost you the remainder. No patient should be treated the way they treat patients. The charge nurse is a joke as well. This hospital seriously needs to fire 90% of the staff and actually hire people who care and will do the job they are hired to do. Unfortunately I'm stuck going here due to my insurance. If not for that I would never step foot in this hospital again. Your life is in jeopardy with the incompetent employees. read more

Drive my husband to the ER with severe abdominal pain. he could not even walk. waited five hours in waiting room. his appendix rupture hours prior. at 9 hours he was rushed into emergency surgery. 6/2022 Four months ago drive our son to the ER who we thought was having a stroke, his left facial features all dropped. waited 7 hours to be taken in back, left after 16 hours without the correct prescription. that the ER ordered. his vitals were checked when we first got there and one time while in back. nurse supervisor was extremely rude and started a conflict with my husband in front of everyone when he was simply asking for an update at 14 hours because not one person, nurse or dr made any attempt to explain what was happening with our son.
