I could not attend the first part of the performance because all my belongings had to be cleaned (including electronics). Secondly, the administration: We agreed on a refund of the tickets which never arrived, despite an agreement in principle from the manager, repeated reminders and emails exchanged over 4 months. They even dared to tell me that I had seen the performance, even though I had missed the first part and was with the manager at the time. I can't recommend the state opera. In any case, as a foreigner who is not a recurrent customer, you are not treated properly there.

It´s well placed in a centrum of Prague and easy to find. And it´s wheelchair accesible. Vojtěch Náprstek was famous philantropist and czech patriot who was very interested in society and cultural life, mainly of the Native Americans. But thanks to other friends (antropoligists, doctors, or simply adventurers) who travelled around the world and brought him many artefacts from their journeys, he garthered a big amount of artefacts and was able to open a museum. It wasn´t the museum as we know it today. It was smaller but during the decades and thanx to more and more artefacts coming in from different parts of the world the museum became one of the most significant centers of cultural education in Czech Republic in the 19th century. And what you will see there today? The museum exhibition is divided into three parts/floors. Two of these floors host a permanent exhibition - the first one is Culture of Native Americans and the second one Australia and Oceania. While the other floor host a different exhibitions which change every half an year (approximately). There is one about Egypt and Nubia (pharao´s times) these days. Museum is full of artefacts mainly tools, jewels, masks, textile etc. Generally speaking items of a daily life and also religion one (ritual masks, weapons etc.). Everything what somehow characterizes the cultures (people) which are the exhibitions about. Everything is well decribed in czech and english. Museum is usually not crowded so it´s quiet and you can enjoy the experience. So enjoy it and let them take you thousands of kilometers away for a few hours :-)

Given my interest in the topic, I wondered how I had missed this museum on my previous visits to…read morePrague. Turns out it was closed for five years of renovations -- well, it came out the other side an outstanding museum! They have a ton of fascinating artifacts, and they present them really well to tell the story of the region's military history in the context of the larger world. Coverage is prehistory to present, with an expected focus on the 30 Years' War and the World Wars. There's a bit of multimedia to set the scene without taking focus. Topics I was familiar with but get just a mention elsewhere like the Czech unit stuck in Russia at the time of the Bolshevik revolution have great treatment here. Going deep on topics while also being interesting to children is a challenge, I appreciated the approach of each room having a cabinet of something related for kids that was highly interactive. Everything is explained in Czech and English -- not sure if there are handouts in any other languages. And the museum is free!

The WW1 exhibit is facinating, many objects which I have never seen before, heavy emphasis on the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Czechs who served in Russia, the Versailles Treaty and the formation of the Czech Republic, and then WW2. Many exhibits of armaments, photos, medals and so on. A real tribute to the military history of this area. WONDERFUL. Out in the back is great place for photgraphing the local trains crisscrossing the city.

The plants, exposed brick, comfy leather chairs, and music were all adding to the experience. There happened to be an art class going on in one of the rooms when I went (how cool). I got the coffee granola with homemade cashew yogurt, peanut butter and fruit and let me tell you- OH baby! It was to die for. A huge portion, too. A bit on the pricier side but reasonable considering the ambiance and the portion size.

The realisation of what sort of powerhouse Czechoslovakia was in the interbellum really hits you. All the greater news: Czechia retook that place largely, after regaining its freedom. One of the highlights of my trip to Prague was the National Technical Museum (Národní technické…read moremuzeum). It was fantastic. The museum is quite large, with 7 floors (floors -3 to 3, with a floor 0), and including a quick lunch at the museum, I was there for nearly five hours. The exhibits I saw were: Technology in the Home; Printing; Astronomy; Television Studio; Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Design; Photography; Chemistry Around Us; Measurement of Time; Transportation; Steam Engines in the Czech Lands; Metallurgy; Mining; and a temporary exhibit on Taiwan, which was in place of the Technology in Toys exhibit. My favourite exhibits were the astronomy, time, and chemistry exhibits. The astronomy exhibit had really cool instruments, and I probably spent the longest in that exhibit. The Technology in the Home exhibit was pretty interesting as well, and had household appliances on display from the mid-19th century to present time. I didn't care too much for the Taiwan exhibit, although the display of ancient Chinese locks and keys was neat. Overall, this is an amazing museum, and I highly recommend it. The only issue I had, however, was at the restaurant. Before I went to the museum, I checked on their website that they took credit card, which they did. However, for some reason, the restaurant took cash only, which was not mentioned on the website, nor were there any signs indicating this, so I only found out after I had ordered my food. And as I was towards the end of my trip in Prague, I was running low on cash. So beware about that, and bring cash just in case.
