After spending a couple hours at Braman BMW this past Saturday, I needed to drive to Tampa in a new X1 to drop it off and return home back to Miami Beach and didn't want to pay an exorbitant fee to travel; I didn't have enough time to make sensible travel plans so I decided to take the Megabus and give it a shot. TBH...I don't, for the life of me, remember the last time I took the bus to anywhere, and taking the Bigbus Tour in San Francisco last week certainly doesn't count. Heck...for a couple hours on that tour, I traveled around 15 miles for $55.00! The stigma of the usual type of characters that take a bus on long distances is real; I noticed some interesting people that you'd be better off not staring them into their eyes, and I almost met some chill people that due to them missing their flight, had no other option back to Miami for their connecting flight to London the next day. Nonetheless, it was a mixed bag of personalities. For the most part, everyone was pretty relaxed with no issues whatsoever and then men running the bus made sure that if you're out of line, you'd be on the side of the road by yourself; they weren't mean by any measure...just authoritative and you could see that from the onset. For the price of what they charge, $28.00 for a seat on a double decker bus with a couple power outlets and WiFi from Tampa to Miami, you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal anywhere; in fact, you could pay even less if you booked your travel a lot earlier but this was the day before I left so how can you beat this deal? The bus made a couple stops after we left Tampa; the first one was in Ft. Myers and it was a Loves Travel Stop that housed a Wendy's and a Subway; they're also a full convenient store that sells about anything you wish but don't buy that beer as any alcoholic beverages aren't allowed. The stop here was a brief 20 minutes, and soon we were on the way. The second stop was off of Sheridan and 95, just south of T.Y. Park, and the stop here were for travelers looking to de-bus. We finally arrived at the bus terminal that's connected to the MIA Rental Car building that also ties in with Metrorail but at the time we arrived which was around 12:30am, it wasn't running; we were around 15 minutes late as to our proposed time of arrival. Megabus runs across the entire US with connection points all over and it's certainly a great way to travel if you don't want to drive, and flying is out of your budget, or maybe you're trying to stay low key as they don't check your ID upon boarding; you simply show an email with your ticket number and you're on. On the day I traveled, the WiFi was down so for those who solely relied on it, they were probably somewhat bored but oh well, it's still hard to beat this awesome way to travel. Staff of 2 men was friendly...only suggestion I have is to maintain the interior better, ie, windows, and fabrics on seat need to be better cleaned. WORSE THAN REDCOACH. I used to love Megabus. A few years ago I would take it with no issues. Always left on time always arrived on time. This is no longer the case. I was delayed 1.5hrs arriving on both my departure AND arrival trips this past weekend. Not because of traffic, road conditions or weather. Because of the terrible drivers! The first driver made us wait at the stop for an extra hour while he called the cops to get multiple passengers escorted off the bus FOR PRETTY MUCH NO REASON other than he thought they were rude. The second driver on the trip back was not well trained and did not have a gps. He missed our exit and drove 20 min north before realizing it was the wrong way. We then sat on the shoulder of I-95 for 45 minutes while he waited for instruction from dispatch. Rather than just turning the bus around. It was horrible. I am writing this review after already attempting to find a resolution with customer service. I called and they would not help me. They kept saying it wasn't their fault because it was traffic and weather (FALSE). Then I emailed Megabus and explained everything in detail. I GOT THE SAME RESPONSE! If it means so much to them to keep $70, then so be it. They are crooks and liars and I will be sure to let everyone I know that Megabus is a pile of hot flaming garbage. I will never ride with them again after the way customer service handled the situation. read more

I generally just don't like riding the bus but it was nice to not have to do that drive from Tampa to Miami myself and to put the miles on my car. And the bus was just so cheap. They advertise for $1 but I ended up booking the trip at the last minute so my total round trip price was ~$30 for just the bus then $28 for 4 days parking in downtown Tampa plus $32 for the taxi from Miami Airport to the hotel PLUS $28 for the Super Shuttle back to the airport on the way back. $82 round trip if you're traveling alone. Take that info for what you want. Parking near the bus station could improve and there really wasn't much guidance in the whole process until the driver on the bus coming back made sure to make announcements about the number of stops we would make and just boarding and de-boarding in general. All in all I would do it again if I couldn't afford to fly or if the trip was no longer than 4 hours. Driving to Miami usually takes me just under 4 hours but the but going there took about 5 1/2 hours. It was just nice to not have to drive but next time I'm sure I can find a cheap flight and get there so much faster. read more

The bus was supposed to leave at 6:50 and didn't leave until 8:30, the conditions of the bus upkeep was extremely poor (crumbs all over the seats, shoes sticking to the floor, and horrid bathroom messes). Haven't completed the trip yet but now we'll be about two hours late from our original arrival time. The staff was friendly (to me at least). Wish they'd have somewhere to wash hands after the bathroom.. read more

We went on a cruise and decided to take this bus back from Miami. I didn't want to ahve my family drive all the way from Tampa to Miami and back more than they already did, in order to take us to the cruise terminal. This was a really good experiance. Other than the air being so cold, it was a nice ride. Only some of the vents are able to be turned off. The driver stopped about 3 hours in to the trip so everyone could get out and stretch and grab something to eat or drink. That was really cool. read more

If the train doesn't meet your schedule or budget, definitely try Megabus. I was taking a cruise out of Miami and was going to have to arrive a day early and get a hotel, then I discovered Megabus. I have not ridden any bus since I was a child, so I was somewhat apprehensive. I did not go upstairs, but imagine it is the same as the main level, except the bathroom is on the main level. The prices have peaks and valleys, just like a plane. I paid $24 to go to Miami & $9 to return. That would not have filled up my car, let alone the extra mileage, wear and tear on the vehicle & me having to pay attention to the road and other drivers. You can bring snacks and nonalcoholic drinks. The seats recline, plenty of leg room, reading light, professional curteous driver & a wifi outlet for each seat. Forget driving: listen to music, watch a movie, catch up on work or just have a snooze. I find this to be a great alternative to driving! 2 areas to watch out for are first the bathroom. On the return trip it got pretty rank and of course the toilet can't flush. Second some of the pick up and drop points are pretty sketchy areas. Make sure you have reliable transportation waiting for you when you get off the bus. Yes, even our own Marion Transport Center is not a cool place to be at night. What's a girl to do? I will relax, kick back and leave the driving to the professionals. read more

This is the absolutely worse bus service that you can pick. Even before the trip started we waited for 2 hours for the bus to arrive! No kidding. About 30 passangers shivering in the damp and windy Marion intermodal center in Tampa. A guy at the stop said that the bus had left him behind for being 2 minutes late, yet they left us waiting for 2 HOURS. Really?! I am expecting a refund! read more

Do not ride Megabus. I was left behind at the station by a power tripping driver for having an extra carry on. The guy told me I had to consolidate all my stuff into one bag and despite difficulty I managed to get all of it into the backpack I was carrying at the time. WHen I attempted to board a second time the driver told me I wasnt getting on the bus because I'd had an attitude. When I insisted that I paid my fare like everyone else he said "You didn't pay me s**t so call customer service." And he drove away. I called customer service and they were very little help and I am awaiting a refund for my ticket and my time wasted. I will never be using their services again. read more

Our family has used Megabus for Tampa-Miami & Orlando-Miami runs for 3 years off and on and had decent service. Until today. At 4:30 pm we were emailed that tonight's 6:50 pm bus was delayed 2-3 hours due to mechanical failure. If you read the refund/change policy, it states one can make changes up until 3 hours prior to departure. Given the bus was delayed until around 10 pm, we can request a reservation change. But, Megabus refused to honor their own policy. Worse yet, when confronted, the rep refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor AND refused to identify themselves for purposes of filing a complaint. At the moment, our kids are stuck. Our only option is to buy new tickets. Horrible service! They took our money and did not provide the service. read more

My daughter caught the Megabus to go back to college. It advertised internet so what a great way to start doing your homework but the internet never work the whole entire trip. They should not advertise internet as the entertainment if it does not work. My partner and I took the Megabus from Tampa to Orlando. The bus was an hour and a half late. Not once did we receive any information on when it would arrive. I quite enjoyed this double decker bus when it did arrive. Our bus driver was a kind, charismatic, and funny man who made the best out of the bad situation that was clearly out of his control. My only qualm is that we received no discount or at the very least any communication letting us know what was going on. Relying on transport puts one in a vulnerable position. First, I typically don't do buses. I'm still traumatized from traveling on the Greyhound as a child. However, the Megabus has won me over and I am absolutely loving the route from Tampa to Miami. Initially, I was very apprehensive, but a friend assured me it would be okay! She was right. My husband and I love going to South Beach, so we have taken it round-trip to Miami twice in the last 3 months. We arrive at the Marion transit center 20-30 mins prior to departure time. It's an outdoor waiting area, but there are a few covered benches in case it rains. The bus usually pulls up about 15 mins or so before departure and the line moves swiftly with no hiccups. The driver will check your reservation number and you can load one luggage item in the undercarriage. You are allowed one personal item and one carry-on onboard (same as when flying). The bus is on time and clean. There are outlets to charge phones/tablets at each seat. The seats are comfortable and I've found that the other patrons were courteous and quiet on the bus. You will make one 15 min rest stop and it's about a 5 hr trip. Pricing: The first trip I paid $3, round trip. $2 going, $1 coming back. The second time $6, round trip. One time, I checked the morning of when considering a last min trip and it would have been $30 round trip, but I didn't go. In a nutshell, the prices are unbelievable considering what I use to spend in gas and expensive hotel parking in South Beach. Not to mention that I can sleep or read all the way there and not have to worry about getting a speeding ticket on the highway. Best deal ever! Hint- if you are going to Miami Beach/SoBe you can save cabfare from the airport to your destination, by going to the public transportation area and taking the 150 Airport Flyer city bus. It's an express bus that goes directly from the airport to Miami Beach for $2.35. Has luggage racks. Check it out. Here are a few other tidbits that may be useful: Parking- There's a row of free parking specifically for megabus patrons, but it is park at your own risk. Most pple get dropped off, so there's usually spaces. We used the parking both times with no problems. Wifi- There is free wifi onboard, but I found it to be very spotty. So don't bank on it. COLD Warning- The bus is cold. Especially evening routes with less travelers. Bring your travel blanket and dress accordingly. I wore sandals the first time and I swear my toes went numb! Overall, the Megabus from Tampa to Miami has been a great experience! With the money we save, I'll definitely be planning another trip soon! read more

Finally after much pondering I hopped aboard my first Megabus for a one-way to Miami on Christmas weekend. Departed December 23rd after booking two months earlier. One dollar to Miami, still stunned over that. Full house yet departed on time on the five and a half-hour trip. The St Pete bus connects directly with Megabus at Marion Transit Center, home of HART. Megabus e-mailed me about a month before departure warning that my departure time had changed, they get a medal for that. Keep in mind all transactions are online or by smartphone. Choose, pay and print your ticket online and show the driver. NO cash here. Nonstop to Sheridan Street Tri-Rail Station in Fort Lauderdale, then continues to Miami airport and Downtown Miami. Did not visit restroom and sat in lower deck. Stairs to upper deck at both ends of bus. Unscheduled rest stop in middle of Everglades quite welcome, was longing to stretch my legs. Friendly driver spoke English well. The downtown stop is inside a parking lot next to the Freedom Tower Metromover Station, this is about three blocks from the American Airlines Arena, Bayside Marketplace, the performing arts center. The Metromover takes you to the Miami Metrorail/Metrobus station at Government Center on the west side of Downtown Miami, connect with MIami Beach buses there. Hop on free trolley bus on Flagler Street. read more

This bus was an hour late. Had me waiting in the freezing cold weather. My feet hurt from standing for so long. When the bus finally arrived it took almost and hour to let passengers on and I want a refund. I will never travel on Megabus again. Megabus stranded at least 8 passengers in Marion bus terminal on Oct. 9 in the middle of the night. Tickets were paid for online from Tampa to Orlando for 11:00PM bus. Numerous calls to customer service (from 11:00PM to 12;30AM) produced several conflicting/untrue assurances of "bus driver is a little late, he's on his way", "bus has been there already, you must not have been at the posted stop", "bus driver decided to not come to the terminal and he's on his way to the next stop". Amazing. Passengers were stranded in middle of night at terminal as it closed, jeopardizing the safety of customers. Customer Service has stonewalled. Don't trust this service. read more

I had a reservation this morning for 9am. The bus apparently broke down. It was an extreme inconvenience to my scheduling so I called customer service to see if I could atleast switch my time and even pay the switch fee and they told me nope nothing they could do for me. No refund (which is understandable but not even a reservation change was possible. They did not even inform me with an update via call or email I got an update email a whole hour later saying the bus would be an hour late. The bus breaking down isnt what was so upsetting (sh** happens) it's the rude horrible customer service that basically does not care about your inconvenience. Oh and when I asked to speak to the manager they said they were not available so I asked for the name atleast and they said they couldnt give out that information. Horrible. read more

AVOID!!! Do NOT reccomend. I am not one to wrote reviews. But had the most horrible experience of my life. The company does not care for it's customers. Provides HORRIBLE service. Waited an HOUR for the bus from the scheduled time... received an email notifying the bus will be ANOTHER 1.5 hours late. Total of 2.5 hours behind scheduled time. I had to find other trasnportaion from Tampa to Miami. But because of the delay, missed my flight out of Miami. Cost be $350+ dollars to make the needed arrangements because of THEIR neglegence. Called customer service to inquire about compensations/refunds. I got laughed at and was bluntly denied any assistance. Use another company to travel. Avoid Megabus at all costs. read more

It gets the job done. Being a regular to the Tampa community I have used Mega Bus well over 6 times. It varies in service, some times the bus arrives as scheduled on the receipt, sometimes it comes 20 minutes late. The bus drivers also so range in attitude towards their clients. One day they can be very nice and eager to successfully help and board every passenger and sometimes they act like they couldn't care less. When on the bus if you decide to sit on the second floor, you should prepare to be very cold for many hours. Temperatures on the second floor feel like 30 degrees Fahrenheit. They're always changing their departure time at Tampa, says departure is 2215, but then you get here ready to get on the bus but then it says 2250. It's understandable every so often that happens, but come now this is ridiculous. The prices are awesome but come on let's try to be on time read more

This was by far the worst bus experience ever, i went to take my bus at 4:40 and it is now 5:27 the bus is still not here and won't get here for another 30 minutes! i can't ride the bus because i have urgency to where i need to be and when i called the company they said no refunds or exchanges could be made, which is utterly unacceptable because they didn't warn us about a possible delay or even email to inform us of the delay i had to call and then i was informed and they didn't even bother trying to exchange or refund even if i won't be riding the bus anymore which is unacceptable. i will be posting about this and telling everyone i know to not ride this bus because the experience was just unacceptable, if they would've worked with me and offered at least an exchanged where i could use my bus ticket another time or a for a trio of equal coast i would've been happy, but the lack of effort from their part was wrong. read more

I've used megabus for about a year now, but only as a last result. You get what you pay for. The interior of the buses aren't maintained including the restroom. Some of the drivers are very rude but i have met one or two that were professional. Ive witness a bus driver call the police for a passenger for having 1 bag more than allowed per Megabus policy, which delayed the trip an entire hour. If the bus is delayed for any reason dont expect a refund or a exchange of your ticket. The buses are late 8 out of 10 times. The tickets are cheap but you get what you pay for. read more

The trip from Tampa to Miami was fine. We thought this would be the way we would travel to cruise from Miami or Ft. Lauderdale from now on! And then when we returned from our cruise, our return trip had been canceled due to Hurricane Matthew. There was no bad weather and no problems with the roads, but I know they have to make a decision at some point and they had made it. It affected more people than us. We rented a car for a much higher rate than normal and drove home. Three days or so later, we received a partial refund with no notification of when the remaining balance of our cost would be refunded so I sent them an email asking about it. I got a response a few days later stating that they had sent all the refund that they were going to send. I sent another message with copies of our original tickets and the refund notice. The answer I got back was "We can't help you any further with this." So, not only did it cost me $149 to rent a car to get home, I'm out another $30 because they don't do full refunds even when they cancel the trip! I am thinking again about using this service especially since they do not offer a phone number to contact them with any issues or questions. Not great customer service! read more
