The staff are so nice and extremely helpful!
They were able to help me find savory pastries that don't contain pork (which is difficult because most of their savory pastries do), and offered to make me something if I didn't find anything I liked. They were also very patient with me and let me taste a few things and take my time as I decided. The staff speak both English and Portuguese, so don't worry if your Portuguese isn't the best.
I ended up ordering the following:
2 spinach croquettes
1 vegetable quiche
2 pastel de nata
1 Pastel de nata with chocolate (the staff's recommendation... My new favorite!)
1 chicken and mashed potato croqutte
1 chicken and mushroom mini pie
The quiche was absolutely divine! Full of juicy, fresh vegetables, a thin crust, and the perfect amount of egg with a nice sprinkling of cheese on top. What I really loved is that it didn't taste "eggy". The eggs were soft, but cooked and seasoned perfectly, working beautifully as a delicious but discreet binder for the rest of the dish.
The spinach croquettes were ok; could have used a little more salt. Maybe even some cheese inside. Decent, but not my favorite.
The chicken and mushroom mini pie was packed full of juicy, delicious, and flavorful chicken. So good! After the quiche, this was my favorite!
The chicken and mashed potato croquette was chewy and stuffed to the brim with fluffy mashed potato and perfectly seasoned chicken. I really liked this one too!
The pastel de nata with chocolate left me speechless. It was absolutely divine. Get it. Immediately. Get two. Or three...Because you will not want to share. As much as I love the original flavor, I think I may have found a new favorite. This was easily the most delicious thing I ate during my entire trip. I went back the day before I returned home and got another half dozen to bring back to the US with me.
Their original pastel de nata was not my favorite. Nothing wrong with it; I've just had better at other places. Highly recommend the chocolate one over the regular one.
This place is located on a small, one-way side street and it's a little bit difficult to find, but it is directly across the street from the beauty salon. Enter from the side using the frosted glass door (It's an automatic sliding door; just walk up the step and it will open). read more
