We live over 30min from this place and it's still our "go to" when it comes to sushi. The menu is out of this world when it comes to variety and you'll never be short on options. And while Megumi is widely known locally for sushi one of the stars of the show is quietly hidden on a separate menu from everything else.. the RAMEN! I've been a ramen lover since my visit to Japan years ago and it's unfortunate how rare it is here in Louisiana. Megumi has a great selection including a tofu ramen for those vegetarians out there. I'm a huge fan of their Tonkatsu AND Shoyu ramens and it's always a struggle to know which to order. You're doing yourself an injustice not trying Megumi and like so many others out there on the north shore you'll find yourself returning again and again once you go. read more

I so want to love Megumi. Unfortunately, the new Covington location (not yet on yelp) has a horrible to-go system. There is a long wait (ours said 20-30 minutes however it was almost an hour before our food was ready). There is no place to wait, therefore people are crowded on top of each other in the front by the register and the lady is communicating very minimally if at all with customers on where their order stands and if they will even be getting their prepaid food at all. They need to work out the to-go system. This is such a disappointment, I will not be back until this pandemic is over and I feel safe to dine in. read more

As soon as you walk in they let us seat ourselves, and when you sit down you get a warm towel in a package, the waiters ask ur drink and get it right out too you, and keep your glass filled you get clear soup for free and it was okay a little watery to me, but the people I was with loved it! Then we got the pork gyzo and it was sooo good it had hints of orange something I never thought about when eating it and it went soooo good together I was very impressed, My fiancé and his brother split the Tempura snow crab, eel sauce, avocado crawfish & steamed snow crab sushi and they loveeeddd it finished it under 5 minutes, me and his brother got the tonkatsu ramen and we definitely recommend it came with this roasted garlic oil we fell in loveee with !! we asked for chili oil! And it was Perfect! My fiancé got the spicy Cajun ramen and it took longer then everything els I felt bad we ate in front of him. Edit: we asked the waiter where his was and she got it put in and offered him something free but he passed bc he's been nibbling on mine, and she said it'd be ready 5 minutes tops and it was! Our edemame was late (came after the meal) but my god the sushi was on POINT! Get the lunch box, MORE than enough food for 1 person and the different sides are great. I got a caterpillar roll and it was excellent and SO cute. Definitely the best sushi spot in Mandeville. Hot towels and miso soup to start are also nice and yummy. Ive been to them all, oh so many times. This is by far, my favorite place of all in Mandeville area. I come here every single time I come back home to visit, in fact , its a new tradition with my friends and I. Every roll is huge and stuffed with large, tender pieces of fish. Nothing skimpy here. We got the Big Mac roll ($14) this time around. Only had 4 actual pieces, but each one was as big as a steak and stuffed with everything you can imagine, even had a softshell crab inside. Excellent sushi, rolls and service. Its in a strip mall, but so what. You are not coming to stare at the place from the parking lot. I cant imagine anyone being disappointed here. I may be their # 1 fan. We usually order way more than enough so we will have lots leftover to take home and eat later on in the day. YUM read more

I'm not easy to please, but the basics seem to be hard master repetitively for restaurants. Megumi is good. Every time. Food is great, presentation is beautiful, service is great. Pricing is a little high and things can get expensive fast, but it's a great treat once in a while. We always order the LSU roll and the Crying Woman roll and they are always excellent. Rolled tight and the flavor is excellent. I love megumi for a consistently great experience. I haven't found a place I like better and I've been in the area for 5 years. Try it, as long as you don't get sticker shock from the pricing I think you'll be satisfied with your experience. A few final notes - it's a pretty small restaurant and is in a strip mall...don't like the setting but it's worth overlooking. They are accommodating to children but it's not so much a family restaurant. It's also kind of small inside so if you have a large group it may not be what you want. read more

Once ever year or two I visit Megumi just to see if things have changed. Nothing has changed. There are just too many sushi places with much better service to come here often. Service is terrible. Awful. Presentation is beautiful Sushi is decent Kitchen items are hit or miss Our latest venture to Megumi consisted of my daughter and myself. We ordered beverages and the appetizer of snow crab and fried calamari which sounded interesting. The calamari comes out and the pieces are very large. I found a smallish piece and could barely chew it because it was so tough. My daughter tried a piece but couldn't bite through it. Rubbery is a good word. We moved the plate to the outer side of our table. Our waitress walked by several times and ignored the dish. Finally, when she came to take our lunch orders I asked her to take the plate away and told her that the calamari was too rubbery to bite into. She rolled her eyes, said nothing and walked away. We ordered three rolls. Our rolls came out with beautiful presentation but the sushi wasn't put together tight enough and all the pieces kept falling apart. A simple crunch roll was made so large that the diameter of it would barely fit into the palm of my hand and it was at least 2" thick! We are experienced chopstick eaters and there was zero chance of taking a bite without the whole roll falling apart. We couldn't even get the roll from the main plate to our small plate without it breaking up and falling apart. Have you ever tried eating a sushi roll one chopped cucumber at a time? Ordered the rice paper roll as well as the Drew Brees roll. Both were tasty and pretty but again the Drew Brees roll, while not as giant as the crunchy roll, kept falling apart. We were not offered refills and had to flag down a random waiter to request refills. Again, while the food is ok, I can't get past the service or the consistency of the rolls. There are just too many better places with MUCH better service to ever go to this place. read more

I have found my absolutely favorite sushi place!! I'm from the area, but currently live in Boston which has tons and tons of sushi places. I've found some great places in Boston, but overall they stick to a more traditional style of sushi: very fresh and very plain. Megumi does the basics, but they are not afraid to step outside the box and add some real flavor to the sushi!! It's fantastic. They have a variety of sauces, use tons of crab, shrimp and even crawfish. Many more options for tempora (my favorite). The prices are about usual for sushi, but instead of getting 6, 1-inch rolls for $10, you get 12, 2-inch rolls!!! I'm used to having to spend a fortune for sushi to barely curve my hunger, but here, you could stuffed on a pretty low budget. The biggest downside to this place is they have an incredible amount of options. My friends normally get mad at me because it takes so long for me to decide. Also, don't be thrown off by the strip mall, basic decor of the place - it does not speak for the food. This place has officially become one of my "must visit" while I'm in town. Sushi with spice and flavor - Louisiana style and that's how I like it!! read more

Large and varied menu, very reasonable prices. The food was beautifully presented with nice portions. I had coconut chicken and noodles that was absolutely awesome. The sushi rolls at our table were beautiful. The tempura lunch we had was huge with salad, cantalope, cucumber salad and a great selection of veg and shrimp tempura. My only complaint is that they brought out individual dishes as they were prepared and it was slow. By the time the fifth person at our table got served, the first was already done. We ordered the snow crab and avocado salad to start while we read the 8 page sushi menu. We finally decided on a Blue Water Roll, Awesome Roll, Ponchartrain Roll, and the Small Softshell Crab Sushi. Scallop skewers are paper thin slices that were incredibly over cooked. Can you say CHEWY?!? My wife placed an order online that was sent to the wrong location. She tried to call and correct the issue but could not get anyone on the phone after several attempts. She ended up placing an order at the correct location over the phone. She got her food and later saw that she had a voicemail from someone at this location (I assume the manager) informing her that she is "not nice" and "wasteful" which is A.) not true and B.) not something this person has any knowledge of. To approach a customer like that, regardless of whatever miscommunication may have happened, is wildly inappropriate and unprofessional. We will absolutely not be doing business with either Megumi location going forward. read more

I went to dinner at Megumi on Saturday, April 21, 2018. My salad bowl had a big chip so I sent it back & told the waiter it was because of the chip. He brought a new salad in another chipped bowl. Then the platter of rolls came out with an even bigger chip and a piece of glass was in it close to my food. We asked for the manager, 15 minutes later he came out, briefly apologized but left the two chipped dishes on my table. The waiter then picked them up & put them, not in the garbage but in a container with other dirty dishes to be wasted & reused. This place doesn't care about the safety of their customers. So we won't be returning. read more
