Funny story.. My mom (and dad and brother of course... ) order a beautiful Christmas basket for me when I don't come home for Christmas. Thanks fam! The business my mom orders from always puts the nicest items in the basket, super fresh fruit, Brie cheese, etc. And the most beautiful roses! I switched employment in the last two years, and this time when I got the delivery the gent said he remembered who I was. And that we are now neighbouring businesses here in Kitsilano! Ok, I'm not much of a romantic and buy flowers max once a year so take my review with a grain of salt (or whatever that cut flower powder you add to the water is). Looked at yelp for places within a 15 minute drive from UBC. Saw Mei Mei had a good rating, and also my daughter's name is Mei so had to check this out. Also saw it was cheap, bonus! A few reviews said the interior was a disappointment and selection was limited. Metered parking on the street, beautiful bouquets outside and like the reviews said, a very nice price. I picked out one of the most expensive ones at $49 but the $29 ones looked great as well. Took it inside and could see what everyone was saying, looked like a gutted store with a flower cooler cabinet. I was expecting hip minimalist décor but definitely not that! Not a lot of selection inside, but what they have looks very fresh. Very happy with the flowers and selection of bouquets on the street. Don't expect anything inside though. Would give it 2* for interior, 5* for price, 3* for selection. Lets round it up to 4* as I left happy. read more

If you feel comfortable assembling your own bouquet (perhaps with a bit of help from the owner) this is the best place to do so because it is so much cheaper, and the result is more customized, prettier, and fun! Ordered a bouquet to be delivered for a business. Looked quite awhile for the perfect arrangement. Was sent a picture of the flowers delivered and they were nothing like what I ordered. I contacted the shop,re the order, and they basically did nothing regarding this order. Even if they offered a small discount I would have been o.k. with, but they ignored me, and did nothing. They went above and beyond. They did a last-minute funeral wreath arrangement for us, which looked great. We could have picked up the wreath the same evening before the store closed. but because we didn't have a proper place to store them overnight, Suli came in 1.5 hours early the next day so we could pick up the flowers on the day of the morning funeral - all this extra effort on their part just to make sure the flowers look their very best at the funeral. During a difficult time, we were so grateful to receive such kindness and flexibility. Thank you! read more

I have been to many florist shops around Vancouver, and seen many bouquets. Each time I see a bouquet out front of Mei Mei I am amazed. The girls that work here are not really interactive, and English is their second (at least)- language, so they are not HUGE on congeniality, BUT- the coordinated colours and variety of the flowers combined with the phenomenally low prices, THIS is the big prize here. We helped a friend pick out the perfect bunch with a big Sunflower in it. Purple paper around. Yellow and Purple!! (jumping up and down with joy on that.) I love flowers !! :-) read more

Their online service is terrible. What you're ordering is falsely advertised (pictures are not the same as what you are receiving). Their attitude seemed like they didn't even care. They sent a Christmas arrangement instead of a birthday one like I chose from their birthday section. I ordered a Happy Birthday Mug floral arrangement with what was shown to be a heart shaped "I love you" message balloon from their birthday section. It was a completely different arrangement from what they had on their website. The flower colours were different, the plain white mug came as a Christmas mug (even though it was suppose to be a birthday arrangement), and the $1.99 balloon was not the same as shown in the pictures. It was just a plain latex balloon. Getting different colour flowers is understandable since it depends on the season, but I received no contact about any changes/alterations like other florists I have used in the past. The main disappointment was how my mom's birthday celebration was treated as a Christmas one. She thought I gave her a Christmas gift when it was actually for her birthday; she only realized after reading the card. I immediately contacted them about a refund. They only refunded me for the product, not the $19 delivery. They even had the guts to say they were only giving me a refund "in the spirit of the season". They argued that their website shows their substitution policy and that the billing stated it was a latex balloon (which was only mentioned AFTER you ordered it, even though the site showed a picture of a Mylar balloon to mislead you). Nothing was even mentioned about the Christmas mug mix-up; felt like this was avoided because they knew they were in the wrong. Overall, greatly disappointed with their misleading services. I never write reviews, but I felt like I had to because of my disappointment. I ordered a dozen roses about a week in advance to Valentine's day. I assumed my order would've been held at the back, but to my surprise the worker grabbed a bouquet from the display. He took off the price tag and handed it to me saying that it was my order. I paid $70 for them, and they were visibly of poor quality. Half of the roses had black tips or cuts in the petals. He tries to convince me that they're supposed to look like that... I was pretty upset, so he told me I could substitute them, but of course by that time all the good ones were picked out... Yes it was their busiest day (Valentine 's Day), but given that I ordered in advance I expected better. To me it seemed like they didn't care about my order and gave me a bunch of leftovers. read more

A week before our event, Mei Mei said she was too busy and committed with other events to help us with ours. 1 week. Do not recommend this shop. I used to be a loyal customer until they shamed my 76 year old mother. She tried to kindly ask for a replacement orchid after all flowers feel off within a few days of purchase. Given my long history of buying from this shop I suggested she take it back. They blamed her for killing the plant- shamed her repeatedly- and she came home in tears. They did offer a store credit - with a scowl and warning they would not sell her another orchid. Is that any way to treat a senior? Shame on them. The new ownership is definitely nothing like the previous owners. Nothing about this shop deserves the support of the kitsilano community- if which many are seniors. read more

Do NOT purchase flowers at Mei Mei!!!!! Just bought some flowers here and asked a few questions in English to the male owner about a future order for Chinese New Years when the wife interrupted in Chinese and told the husband "Do no bother with her". After going out to my car to get over the shock and their rudeness, I returned and told them calmly and politely they should not assume my fluency in English and my walking in with a non-Chinese husband and infant that I could not understand Chinese in several dialects. The male owner didn't apologize and emphasized over and over that my business meant nothing to them, to get out of their store, and that they have been in business in the current location for 10 years so they were established and did not care about insulting a few customers. I have purchased from them in the past and know their English isn't great. They are not super friendly but I do not need stellar service from a florist when picking up a pre-made bouquet. Badmouthing customers in another language and assuming the customer doesn't understand is another story. The male owner also told me I was a "bad person" for returning to tell them what I thought and that I would have just walked away if he was another race like Korean (??? I am not Korean so wouldn't have known I was being insulted). Oh well, they were likely aggressive and angry because they were embarrassed for getting caught badmouthing their customer. I thought flowers were meant to lighten people's moods, but it doesn't help these guys even though they are surrounded by flowers. They seem to hate what they do and act as if their customers are a hassle. If you want your money taken and be badmouthed on your way out, then this is the place to go!!!! read more

Florists are kind of like luggage repair shops and dry cleaners in that you don't realise the value of having a good one around you until you, in fact, need a good one around you. I live in an area of Kits that has quite a few florists, and have gone to Mayhew-Sherwood Flowers in the past when I have needed to buy potted plants or a reasonably-priced bouquet. I was walking home, westwards, from Macdonald the other day and impulsively decided to buy some flowers for my aunt. I stopped in at Mei Mei and wasn't impressed with the customer service I received. They have an average selection of flowers, and the family-run staff are definitely capable, but I find the range and service much better at Mayhew-Sherwood and Interior Flori...further west, near Alma. Roanna is right though...prices are pretty good! read more

Until recently, I was happy with Mei Mei. I have shopped there several times over the last few years, and have typically received good product. My last experience, however, was absolutely different. I purchased a dozen long stem roses for my wife for our anniversary for a cost of $66 including tax. The roses were stem-bottom snipped and in water within 15 minutes of leaving the store. Imagine my shock when not a single rose opened - and eventually after a few days, they began to droop and look very dead. I am not unreasonable, and I expect that a rose or 2 may not open in a dozen - but I do not expect *none* of them to open up. I went back to Mei Mei - and they told me that flowers do not have a guarantee and that somehow, this was my problem - not theirs. No refund - no new bouquet. They offered me a $6.95 bunch of 3 short stem roses if I wanted them. I did not. To me, this attitude is morally wrong and it is also bad business practice. I understand that accidents can happen, and maybe that my flowers were simply a bad batch. I do expect that a business stands behind the product that it is selling, and when a customer pays top dollar for a luxury item ($5 per rose) - that the business make some attempt to make things right for a customer when the product is defective. I will never shop at Mei Mei again after this, and I advise caution for others. They are fine when there is no problem - but they don't stand behind their product. read more

They have awesome prices for what they do have, however, they're extremely slim...even for the basics. It had nothing to do with a high turn around but more or less they just don't carry a lot of variety. I tried asking the owner a question and he just looked at me as though I was speaking to him in greek. read more

Last time I was in Kits - I really liked the bouquets outside of the store. Today - I was in the area and I remembered the flower shop so I went and purchased a big bouquet of flowers.
