After all, Lexington has been rough on grocery stores. You know, after the short run of Luckys and Fresh Tyme. I guess we prefer to eat out over grocery shopping. This is a small neighborhood grocery. When you see it, from the corner or Citation Blvd and Leestown Road, it looks like an oversized gas station. There is a Shell station attached to it, but it's bigger than it appears at first glance. There's also a Which Wich location inside, which will also have a drive thru, but it's not open now. They have a pretty big selection of beer, in the Beer Cave cooler. Right now, they're running buy one get one free specials on the rotisserie chickens, chicken salad made from rotisserie chicken, and fresh cut fruit. The sale/specials signs are displayed outside, near the entrance. I love that feature, because it means we don't have to grab an ad to see what's on sale. I hope they keep that feature. The chicken salad was fantastic! It will definitely be one of my staple items. The soft serve ice cream machine is also a welcomed feature, especially since the neighborhood McDonalds' soft serve machine is never working. That's besides the pint though, I know. The checkout process is weird. The don't have checkout lanes, it's one big check out counter, with several cashiers. There's no real start of a line, or any indication where to wait for the next available cashier. When I was there, no one was in line, so I stood in the middle, away from the counter and the cashier called for me. I asked her what the line process is, but she didn't have an answer. I guess we will eventually figure it out.

So we wanted to check out the new Wawa gas station that finally came to Kentucky. I ordered the beefsteak bowl and my husband got the chicken sandwich. The food came pretty quickly and it was pretty damn good for gas station food. But that's what Wawa is known for, their damn good food. I would totally get more if ever in the late night mood for better than other fast food options. The place was clean and the staff were friendly. Pretty good for 1 am service. And a Members Mark shredder with the attached trash can for $60. I thought these were pretty good deals. I usually go to Sam's once a month for supplies that end up lasting me for several months. I'm headed back to Louisville and needed some gas. It's usually cheapest to fill up outside major cities, and further away from the expressway. Though I use Yelp to help find cool, local restaurants and things to do, it's not super helpful when it comes to finding the current price of gas. Wink wink. Yelp, how about letting us upload the current price to gas stations? AnyWho, I pulled up the gas buddy app, which allows me to find gas stations based on the most recent reported price per gallon. I found a speedway that claimed to have gas for $2.53 a gallon, the cheapest in the area, so I set my GPS and headed that way. If you leave the main entrance from Kentucky State University and turn left onto Main Street, then turn right onto Versailles. You'll end up on a road that takes you back to interstate 64.. and a speedway, and a Ruth's candies if you want some phenomenal local candy. But, before you get to the speedway, you'll notice an ARCO gas station unassumingly hanging out on the right hand side of the road. I honestly did a double take when I saw the sign, because I didn't realize that ARCO stations were anywhere in this region. I've always known them to be a West Coast Corporation, and honestly, I'm only familiar with them because they used to have an aluminum division with an office in Louisville. I was surprised to find the marquee displaying gas for $2.49 a gallon. This was the cheapest in the area. Gas was $2.55 - $2.57 right by the expressway. I can't imagine that this gas station is new, but I was surprised that it wasn't on the GasBuddy app or on Yelp, so I added it. The pumps were easy to use. It looks like they have a rewards program, but I didn't sign up. The tap to pay feature made it super simple to pull out my credit card and get to pumping. It looks like there is a Jimmy John's inside, but as stated, I didn't go in. After I filled up my car, it was an easy and short distance to interstate 64. Less than 1.5 miles, maybe less. If you're in the area, and looking for quick and easy, cheap gas, this is your spot.
