My parents recently moved to the Milwaukee metro and my mom has been wanting to try different grocery stores. We've taken her to Metcafe's (love), she's tried Metro Market, and so it was time to introduce her to Meijer one Sunday when we were out and about. This Meijer is large, clean, has a ton of variety and options for any product you may want to purchase, and is easy to navigate with nice, wide aisles. We had already been to Costco, so weren't looking to do a full shopping experience here but did easily find what we were in need of. A few things that I liked: The choices and variety of canned fruit (including the fact that they had Dole tropical fruit salad, which can be hard to find). The bread selection! So many choices of both bakery style bread and your more commercial varieties. Aside from that, we were able to find everything on our list. The store is well organized so we didn't have to hunt too long for anything and checking out at the self checkout was a snap. Get to it! read more

-Craft beer was marked on sale. Did not ring up as the sale. -My husband went and took a photo and asked the meijer manager to walk back with us. -She said it doesn't matter what the discount is they cannot honor it as the liquor manager was not there and is not frequently available. -Her claim was "we are unable to honor the marked price as it is against the law--to price adjust unless the liquor manager was on site". This is a clear case of false advertising. -Gave back the craft beer. We would rather pay full price somewhere else. Meijer leadership needs to look up who was working today as a manager, and align their practice with laws. Unfortunate experience. We want to warn others so they don't go through the same issue. Nilla Wafer Persian: For a grocery store bakery, I've been pretty impressed with the doughnuts at my local Meijer (although the selection is sadly wildly inconsistent). A Pershing/Persian is a doughnut that is similar to a cinnamon roll but is made with doughnut batter. Meijer has had a plethora of Persian varieties lately, with one of them featuring Nilla wafers. The surface of this pastry contains a lake of vanilla pudding with sweet cream cheese frosting bordering it like a beach. Three mini-Nilla wafers can be found within the pudding as the finishing touches. The cinnamon flavor of the pastry's body is sweet and relatively subtle with no uncomfortable burning/heat to it. Cinnamon granules can be seen in the dough after taking a few bites if you look closely enough. I found the dough to have a nice thick and chewy texture while also being light and pillowy. At first, I wasn't digging the texture of the pudding as I'm used to the whole thing being frosting, but it grew on me with each bite. Today I visited the Meijer is Sussex at 11 AM. I went through the store and selected my items as usual. I then proceeded to check-out only see that 1 full service lane was open and the self check out had a long line. I was so disgusted that I left my entire shopping cart in the aisle and left. How can a store of this size only have 1 full service checkout lane open when there is 8-9 carts deep? I looked over at the customer service are and there were 3 persons behind the desk, pull one or two out and support the full service check out.. lastly, in most aisles they were restocking shelves at 11 AM, this is what early AM is used for NOT mid morning on a weekend? This is absolutely the last straw! I don't want to hear that staffing was not available, etc. if you are OPEN be OPEN. read more

Meijer pharmacies really need to improve, starting with treating their pharmacists better and training their pharmacy techs better. Then add adequate staffing and get rid of self checkout. I used to love Michigan Meijer's Thrifty Acres but the bigger they get and the farther they spread the worse they get. On the other hand the gasoline station has a couple of really nice, very helpful attendants. I much prefer getting gas, coffee, and snacks here as compared to the nearby gas-convenience store. read more

I cannot believe what I just saw about the 16 yo disabled employee that was arrested for eating food that would have been thrown into the garbage! Your manager took the time to record this young man until the total of food he consumed, was tallied at $100. Then called the police and had him arrested! I will NEVER EVER SHOP AT MIEJERS AGAIN!! Never! Distasteful on all levels. Last I checked, Miejers family worth is 15 billion!! Disgusting!! I didn't want to even rate one star. Worst gift card shopping experience ever. They sold me two (2) Apple gift cards, charged me for both, but activated only one (1) of them, which I realized when I tried using both gift cards but the second one had zero balance. They were NOT able to resolve the issue over the phone, so I had to waste my time and gas to come back to the store where the manager could not explain how it happened - how they charged me for both gift cards yet failed to active them both. They offered absolutely NOTHING for their screw up and my inconvenience. Manager was nice though. I'll give her that. Just flustered because she could not tell me what happened and was unable to simply activate the gift card I already paid for. Lesson learned: make sure your gift cards are all activated before leaving the store. read more

I am so impressed with this place. I'd heard they were great and wondered what all the hype was about. They not only seem to do everything, but they do it really well. I was especially impressed with the service. Everyone was friendly and extremely helpful. It is especially impressive, since they've only been open a few days. A pretty great Meijer location. Even before the pandemic I ways greeted at the door by friendly staff, store is always clean and orderly, staff even knows where stuff are located. This location has a robust alcohol section, hot food is always hot, deli section always friendly. Honestly this is a really good Meijer. I would come out of my way just to come to this specific location if I wanted something from Meijer. read more

This store used to be a great place to shop. Not anymore. Way too many shelves remain unstocked for days. Perishable items are still on shelves past the "sell by" dates. Self Checkout is likely your only option since there are rarely more than two staffed check out lanes open. That's fine if you have no razor blades or liquor. If you have liquor, be prepared for a process akin to boarding an airplane,regardless of your age. read more

Meijer Stores are my favorite. I now go to Meijer for anything and everything as I have one right near my house in Greenfield, and this one right by work. I often stop in at this location in the morning to pick up snacks or drinks for work. I have also stopped in to pick up supplies for my workplace as well. I had a concern that I brought to the attention of Meijers to which they responded and acted immediately to resolve. The shopping experiences are very positive and the employees are all polite. I've done much more shopping here now, as the local pick n save in Sussex is a joke and has NO customer service. I'm more than happy to give Meijer's my business! read more

Pharmacy did not contact me that they needed more info on my end until I stopped in and asked 4 days later what was up.....When I asked for alternate ways to contact them besides the phone, was told they don't have email or text options to contact. Discriminatory against deaf people. 9 days later they still can't give me my prescription even though they claim I did nothing wrong and everything I was suppose to do. Ran out of said prescription. Will be moving this prescription elsewhere since there is no way to communicate with them besides drive there daily and ask what is up. Does not contact doctor who prescribes med for you, you must do it but they won't tell you unless you show up and ask them about it. read more

Got the 8 piece chicken dinner. It was terrible. My wife tried a breast and said it was dried out and tough. I had a thigh and had the same taste. The breading had a nasty taste to it also. Even the salads in the deli looked sketchy. Won't be getting food from there anymore. The food store is very nice and clean. First time in Meijer store ever. RUDE EMPLOYEES. The Starbucks employee was swearing to herself about another employee needing register tape at the pizza checkout. Myself nor my five year old son were amused. At the deli counter and hot food employees are blunt and short. Didn't seem to understand needing specific amounts. At the self checkout an employee was extremely rude about an item not weighing on the belt. She snapped at me to hit "do not bag". Get better people, or better get just get robots as they would be more efficient and polite. read more

DO NOT USE THE MONEY CENTER AT THIS MEIJER STORE. I had an issue where they failed to load my Meijer prepaid card but took my money off from my debit card. Despite the receipt stating that it failed to load, a Meijer employee named "Josh" treated me very rudely and refused to refund me my money, although the front-level employees at the store had paperwork there stating that it was supposed to happen. After multiple trips to the store, phone calls, letters to the store leadership, many hours of time wasted, all to no avail, I needed to file suit against the store in small claims court to get my money back. Since their drawer was over the amount that they owed me--something the lawyer for Meijer acknowledged after I filed suit--it is almost certain I will win the case, but I have been out the money for months and months while this process has paid out, have had to pay fees to file the suit, to deliver papers, etc. for what should have been a five minute fix--just look at the receipt, see the funds did not load, and give me back my money, or if you want extra verification, then check that your drawer is over by that amount, or if you want even more extra verification, believe all the documentation I sent in my letters proving my case--but no, no, no, no money back without filing a small claims lawsuit, paying many fees, and hours and hours and hours of wasted time. If it happened to me, it could happen to you, and it probably has happened to others. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MEIJER MONEY CENTER. read more

Buyer beware, meat sale prices are often wrong, every time I shop a special "sale" price it rings up the regular price. I tell the cashier who is always "surprised." Last month frozen chicken breasts were on sale 5.99 regular price was 8.99. I told the cashier, when I got home she only corrected 1 of 3 bags I purchased. This week they have ground beef in 1 pound packages $1.49 regular price $3.19 that rang up regular price. The lead cashier walked by and confirmed the sale price of $1.49. A few days later I went back for more as this is a great price, again it rang up wrong at $3.19. This happens almost every time I buy meat on sale they never correct the wrong price when told. Here is my 2nd review of Meijers. FIrst review was "not recommended" due to "Yelp" metrics, no apparent reason why. The comments are the same: we just had to return a bunch of asparagus that seemed OK to spouse on the outside but when I took the bundle apart to prepare, the inside spears were rotting vegetal matter interspered with white mold. It was apparent that the produce area had trimmed and bundled produce that had gone bad in an effort to sell it at $ 2 a pound. I just cannot trust Meijers produce, and many other commenters on multiple rating sites have said the same. Consequently, I have discontinued shopping at Meijers except for their beef sales, since their beef is excellent. read more

I love this location because its 24/7! I also like their food court sections. They have more diverse foods than Costco. Employees need to train more because its fairly new location but other than that I like it a lot. Its close by my house too so its really convenient for me. read more

We went to meijer with some friends to get vanilla wafers for our confetti dip we made. there were four of us. one of us couldn't find our wallet so we went back to the car to go look while our other two friends went to get the vanilla wafers. we could not find the wallet and we went to the beach before so the two of us were going to go back to the beach to look for it while our friends bought the wafers. our friends had accidentally put their money in the wrong self check out part because there was nothing clearly saying to not put it in. keep in mind we were not causing a ruckus at all just going to get wafers. our friends had called us to come back because they were being very rudely talked to by workers so we turned around and went to get them. as we pulled in we were being stared down and even video taped the whole time. why was i being video taped and when did i give consent to being filmed? or even any of my friends? ridiculous. will not be coming back here everytime i have gone even besides this time the workers have always been so rude and unwelcoming. disappointing i loved that place read more

This is our third trip to this location. So far we really like it. They have low prices but still carry real brands like Yankee Candle and Philosophy! Everyone there has been really nice and helpful. Quality had been very good and the store brand items are pretty good as well. Love the liquor department, lots of choices and price options. Based on my experience so far I can tell you that I won't be visiting Walmart anymore and will be taking my business to Meijer now. read more

The Meijer in Sussex is in a perfect location for me to stop on my way to work in the morning; I typically arrive at the store at 7 am M-F and I'm in a hurry to get to work. Unfortunately, I've not had a good experience with the checkout personnel and wonder how long it will take for management to fix this. 7 am is a slow time for the store so there's not many shoppers aside from myself so I frequently see 3 or 4 assistants at the front of the store waiting to assist folks (?). Self check-out lanes are often the only option and the assistants aren't eager to bag your groceries. I shopped there at 7 am this morning and requested bagging assistance from a woman standing at the foot of the belt looking at me and smiling. She told me "..well..OK...but I can't do this that long because I have to (inaudible).." She helped for 30 seconds and then said "I have to go" and left my items on the belt. read more

I've been impressed on how open the isles are. I've focused on deals there and you can get some good deals on food products if you watch their sales. I loved shopping here and everyone has been extremely helpful until tonight when I tried to use a coupon (which yes, it was expired but I had called ahead of time and asked if I could use it, the person on the phone said it would be fine) the woman helping me discussed this with her supervisor and apparently said supervisor told her "absolutely not" "that makes no sense" "no one would have told her that" (quotes from the employee helping me.) So before discussing with me, the supervisor already thinks I'm a liar. Then I try to use a gift card I received from their customer service desk, and it came up as invalid, I believe the supervisor was the one helping me with this and she just seemed like she didn't believe me at all; like I was trying to scam the store out of $10 or something. It made me feel extremely uncomfortable and took forever while she had an employee rescan my entire cart while my son is screaming from waiting 20 minutes. I have been a regular shopper since the store opened and I couldn't believe the treatment and attitude today. I will not be returning. read more

If you have all the time in the world, like shopping and too many choices this is your store. Me I am a go in get it and leave kind of girl. Seriously there are three types of carts- I just need something to put my stuff in- For being quite large I found the deli lacking- it needs more prepared salads, desserts etc. thinks stuff you'd like to eat at a pot luck but don't want to make your self type stuff. Price wise- not much different than PNS. I shop where prices are good and not loyal to any store. I will go to more than one store the week for my weekly shopping just to save money. Like always you have to check expiration dates- just cuz the store is new doesn't mean you won't find expired stuff- cottage cheese on sale this week had a date of 07/12- today is the 16th. I had to search for one that was good. Clothing section reminded me of Shopko and kind of pricey for none brand stuff. Not sure why the toy section is no where near the sporting goods- my 11 year old commented they should have it side by side. Selection is overwhelming- luckily for me I stick to my list (with a few deviations) Check out - bring your own bags especially if you don't use the self check out otherwise like Walmart you will end up with a million plastic bags as they don't fill them up enough. Only one bad experience with self check out and receipt not printing/jamming the worker was less than helpful. She asked me "do you really need a receipt?" as she was flustered and had no idea how to unjam the machine. With ice cream melting I wasn't going to wait for her to find someone else to figure it out as it was busy after work. I am a long time Meijer shopper from Illinois, it was actually my favorite store. A few weeks ago I purchased some tortillas at this location. When I got home I looked at them and realized they were expired three weeks prior. I called the store they apologized and offered me a small gift card for the trouble. So I go back to do weekly shopping. I pick up a package of whole grain wheat thins bread. I now check the dates on everything. The package I picked up was expired. I check out and give it to the cashier to tell her they may want to check on that section. She laughs and says oh it happens "ALL THE TIME", her words not mine. I didn't think it was funny at all. A lot of seniors can't see those small dates and may get sick from eating rotten food. I don't care about an apology or gift card, I'd just like to shop and not have to over scrutinize dates and that the food they are selling is safe. So for now I'll have to shop elsewhere. If you do shop there really look at dates, I noticed that even the yogurt section had lots of containers that were expiring on the day I was shopping.
