Big grocery store for a small town. I liked getting a few meal ideas and groceries here for our vacay in South Haven. One knock was that it was FREEZING in here. My daughter was borderline crying because we were damp from a beach day and it felt like walking into a freezer, which made us expedite our trip. Got some vacation rental K-Cups, frozen pizza, breakfast and snack items and it was a nice, traditional, huge grocery store. The check out lines were understaffed in late July and took forever. My daughter would want me to add, how fun is if that they have a ton of those quarter-operated machines at the entrance/exit? She got gumballs and still talks about it with me. Definitely needed in this town and glad to have stumbled into it. read more

You know what Hendrick Meijer is rolling in his grave. The customer service is what won Meijer over. That's totally gone now. To the point I was in South Haven Meijer Express (gas station) trying to purchase something. The card machine was acting up. The cashier was too busy staring out the window to acknowledge. I asked "did the card go through". He said "huh" I said it's everything good? He crumbles up receipt and I said "your customer service really sucks". To which the Meijer employee replied "why you gotta be such a D**K". I was upset told manager on duty. Guess what that same employee has a job at Meijer. Really nice older style Meijer. Working in the Kalamazoo market at several stores, a lot of stores are modernizing into be more trendy and poppy. I really like that this Meijer reminded me of the 2010-2020 era of Meijer before the renovations are hitting the stores in Michigan. Still have the carousels and it felt like a trip down memory lane. I really enjoyed my shopping experience, with the vast amount of camping goods to a great pharmaceutical over-the-counter selection, Meijer South Haven is working really hard to keep the newest and grooviest of items going. Gave the review (4/5) because the technology department was not super bare but wasn't overly stocked it was right in between, which kind of subtracted from the experience but wonderful visit overall. read more

The store is clean and well stocked but at times there is too much stocking at one time and the aisles are totally blocked! The staff seems to be well trained and happy to assist! The greeters are good! Bakery staff really aims to please! read more

I'm really upset and not sure who to gripe at? I shop at Meijers every chance we can, infact it's our preferred store to shop at. My main frustrations are my meds. The pharmacy has an automated system that you can call in and order meds. The problem if there is a glitch with contacting provider or provider has stipulations with the med you ordered on the automated phone system the ball is dropped right there. No courtesy call to the customer no nothing. So I ran out of my meds. I called the pharmacy in panic to see why medsvhavent been refilled, I soon found out my prescription was canceled because they cannot order this particular med from a pharmacy. So I asked why didn't anyone call me so I can call the doctor. So after a friendly stand off I contacted my Dr. and Meds. Reorder my chart and from them I'm catching heat as to why I waited so long. So now I'm in the middle of waiting and not able to take my meds. I think if something is not able to be refilled the customer should be notified as s9on as the pharmacist finds out the order can't be filled. ​ read more

This place has better quality products but more expensive and their coupon deals are a little bit complicated one idea that I don't like that they have is if you order anything to be picked up you can't use food stamps you have to use a card a bank card and they have smaller portions of everything for more expensive Walmart has 32 packs of water of aquafina for the price of an eight pack from Meijer nearly and they have everything in stock whereas Walmart has like over half of the orders out of stock of everything it's basically empty. read more

Currently standing in line 15 while the cashier is apparently working the poorly named 'customer service' desk. Understaffed and understocked, you have to constantly navigate around boxes stacked in the aisles. I'm back to driving to Family Fare in Holland but the occasional trip here reminds me why. read more

When I've visited on weekend bike trips, found the food and employees to be good. BUT, a few weeks ago, I was talking to a deli employee and when turning around, fell over a low cart that another employee had left right behind me. I had badly torn up shins, had to get tetanus shots, miss a day of work, and will have small scars. The store manager took a report, and Melanie from the corporate office in Grand Rapids left me a voicemail the next day asking how I was. I've since left 5 voicemails and they will not return my calls. Instead of offering a small compensation or gift card, they can't even call back? Store manager at the time apologized, admitted it was a terrible error on their part, and yet the company will take no responsibility! read more

5/22/17 I spend a ton of money at the South Haven Meijer. I saw the produce department stock veggies. I also saw the Meat counter folks stocking their wares. Why the hell did the ground pork smell horrendous. It was nearly $7.00 worth & the meat counter people were working stocking the coolers. Mushrooms, same thing. Employees were working stocking the cooler. They expired the same day I purchased it. Damn it I shouldn't have to check the dates on groceries the same day I am buying them. I have given up buying Miracle Whip cracked pepper because. Over the last few months it has constantly expired sitting on the shelves. It was so bad I took it off the shelf and sat it in the isle because it has expired the week before. I could go on and on but, why bother. I will be spending my $200.00 a week elsewhere. read more

Wonderful supermarket. Clean and organized, with a wide variety of household items and gifts in addition to the expansive grocery and toiletry section. We stayed in South Haven for the weekend, we are from Chicago. This store makes me want to shop at Meijer when we get home. read more

They are open till midnight but don't expect a lane open to check out. I spent an hour shopping to be told they couldn't check me out at 11pm but I could use the little 20 items or less check out a complete full cart. I won't go back. read more

Think Walmart but a more fancy version! And no I'm not talking about Target because target had its own category. No one can compare to them. But to me meijer is just a fancier Walmart with name brand clothing and shoes. Definitely love the layout and the atmosphere. Every single employee that I saw was polite, and greeted me in a heart-felt way with "Good morning! How are you?" One of my favorite Meijer's. Especially in the "off season" Always clean, always friendly, always good meet and produce. Feel bad for them during the tourist season as they get kind of attacked on the weekends and it's hard for them to keep up/catch up. I called in a prescription to the pharmacy in South Haven. It states on their voice mail to used the drive through if possible or take advantage of pickup. Well, I got my prescription and wanted to buy Alec's cold and sinus which is behind the counter. I was told you can't buy this item through the drive through. Why make someone come inside the store when they are already picking up in the drive through? What about social distancing? Very disappointing. Went to Walmart because they made me mad! read more

Overall this meijer is fine. I will say that the store itself is usually clean but the bathrooms need work. For some reason, women like to throw TP all over the place. A lot of times there is no soap either. I see employees go in and leave without reporting any issues. Kind of gross! The other MAJOR issue with this meijer is their deli counter. I honestly think they are hiring people with a sub 50 IQ to work that counter. There will be anywhere from 2 to 5 employees behind the counter with an equal amount of customers and yet it takes FOREVER. The employees are not only slow but so lazy. They will purposely walk away and go pretend to be busy when you need meat cut. I have to plan an extra 30 minutes for grocery shopping if I need deli meat because that has been my average wait time at that counter since they opened. I've even had out of town guests ask me why it takes so long. They literally move in slow motion. It's pathetic. I also had an employee refuse to find the item I needed because she had to dig a little. She kept offering me other random deli meats. Meijer needs to figure out the deli counter pronto. read more

Riding Carts : I've been shopping in South Haven for two months now; I have yet to get a Riding Cart without having a problem. Yesterday I went in to get A Cart & there was a man sitting in A Cart that was being charged. I waited for Them to bring me A Cart & went to the Produce Dept. & it Died. One time The Cart They gave me only went backwards. Last week They pushed me out to my car & then 2 people pushed The Cart back in. This is SAD ! Meet The Needs of The Handicap ! read more

No one that worked here knew where anything was. The selection was fine for a Meijer but the employees were not helpful. There was a lot of expired and moldy/ rotten food on the shelves. I felt like I had to inspect everything before putting it in my cart which made it take twice as long. The kicker was that when it was time to pay only u scans were open. I asked if they could open a regular lane but they said only u scans were open after 11. We had to scan and bag $650 worth of groceries ourselves for our vacation house. Very frustrating. read more

Two stars only because I can usually find most of the produce I want at Meijer. The rest of the store needs help. My experience at Meijer includes: repeatedly items appearing in the Sunday flyer are not available, i.e., no prepared chicken at 12:00 noon on Sunday. "Come back in 45 minutes" per the staff. Meat items not in available i.e., BOGO chicken and ribs. When I inquired about the empty meat coffins I was told "It's right there." It wasn't. The employee finally came over and looked at the empty space and shuffled off to get what looked like 30-40 boxes, much more than what would fit in the space. Meijer, you can't sell what isn't on the shelf. Just yesterday I witnessed one cart of frozen food sitting right in the middle of an aisle with no employee in sight. Two huge carts of cold cuts and cheese sitting unattended in an aisle. How warm did this food get before it was shelved? Many times I can review the ad and find the shelf tag doesn't indicate the item is on sale. Also, in one week I was charged a total of $7.50 too much because items did not scan correctly. If you are still reading this, I hope you know in MI if you are charged more than the scan price, the store must give you the difference plus $5.00! Just this week I bought a $8.98 item and was charged for two items instead of one. I have learned to check my receipt before leaving the store. The cashier "thought" she deleted one item; she had not. There are not enough employees in the deli and the ones there are slow, very slow. And, the deli salads look stale and as though they have been setting too long. In closing, don't expect good customer service, stocked shelves, helpful staff and you won't be disappointed. Bottom line, management is not watching his/her store and employees. read more

South Haven, MI Meijers is horrible. Food is out of date. People are very unfriendly and bit under the weather. Some how they think they deserve more. Step in line. I go back gingerly and still don't even like it. Maybe once a month if that. These people are dumb!!!!! read more

Yelp needs a "No Stars" option for reviews... The employees at this Meijer are lazy. L-A-Z-Y. I recently stood at the deli counter for over 15 minutes while other customers eventually walked away. There were 5 (!) employees behind the counter, all careful not to make eye contact with any waiting customer, and only one was helping customers - and she was moving so slowly it was like she was in a time warp. But it gets better... went to the deli counter last Friday, and there were 3 kids (maybe in their late teens?) behind the deli counter. It was 7:30. I walked up to order, and a girl behind the counter said, "We're closed." Shocked, I asked, "What time do you close?" She said, "8:00." I said, "But it's only 7:30." Then some smart mouth kid also back there yelled, "It's 7:39!" I asked the girl why they were closed when it was only 7:30, and she said, "We have a lot of cleaning to do." Then smart mouth kid yelled that we could go to Wal-Mart. Instead, I went to the acting store director, and had a lengthy chat with her about all the reasons it was not okay for ill-mannered kids to mouth off to grown-ups, about customer service at the deli counter then, about poor service at the butcher counter a week ago (two guys working in the department were looking in a case as I stood at the counter where no one was working, then they looked at me and walked away together - I finally walked over to the door to the butcher shop back room and pounded with my fists - and presto! - an employee came out!). The acting store director assured me the little boy with the big mouth would be written up. As a follow-up, I emailed Meijer Corporate Offices. Not that Meijer cares. I have yet to see a Meijer employee in any Meijer store who doesn't have a look on their face like they're chained to the walls of hell. read more

Nice,beautiful store but terrible help in the sporting dept.My husband gave the woman his senior fishing license to renew it!She charged him the regular price and he told her he needed a senior one.She said she could not undo it.Then suggested I get a senior one since we would be together.First of all I'm not a senior and second,it's illegal.She called manager and he suggested the same thing.We left and went to Dunham's Sporting across the street and they voided her mistake and got him the senior one.Will not stop in Meijer's again but definitely go to Dunham's for sporting needs! read more
