Meissner Sewing in Folsom, CA. There aren't a lot of shops like these left. Sewing shops that sell sewing machines, notions, and fabric; and provide lessons.. I was in need of a new measuring tape, bobby pins, and scissors. So instead of ordering off the internet from the rain forest I drove to Meissner. A real brick n mortar shop staffed with real people (not a Bot) within the community. It was my first time at this location. The shop was clean and organized. It had a ton of sewing machines ranging from $200 beginner models to several thousand dollar versions that self embroidery, run automatically by preprogramming. Fancy! They also had a wall of notions and a section selling fabric. The staff working were awesome. Helpful, knowledgeable, and easy to talk with. Farah even told me about their classes that they offer onsite. They have classes on how to use certain models of sewing machines besides their sewing, quilting. and embroidery classes. So many classes offered; ranging not only on topic but skill levels. They even have a class that will introduce you to the basics on using your sewing machine. No judgements. The sewing machine doesn't have to be bought from them, if it is then the class is free. They aren't open on Sundays. And I recall the shop doesn't stay open particularly late. read more

I love, love, love Meissner's Folsom! Being so close to home is such a bonus as I always find exactly what i need, and if I don't see it, then Farah is always there to help. She is a wealth of knowledge about all things sewing machines, fabric and notions. Issues with your machine, she knows exactly what the problem is whether it's a tension issue or a needle issue and she has always been able to help me. When I walk in the door I get a huge smile and "welcome in". So glad for this Meissner store in Folsom. I come in for fabrics and sewing supplies, or call ahead and have Farrah put aside for my retired husband to come pick up while I'm at work. I'm not sure why there is only one person working there now - it sure makes it difficult when several customers are expecting immediate assistance. Just got back from my favorite store, Meissner's in Folsom! Farah is awesome, she is so kind and understanding. She is helpful beyond belief, I have been so full of questions about a machine and she helps me with the details and never pressures me. She even has great suggestions on what machine to buy. Whenever I need fabric she helps me with the color choices and even provides me with fabric I would have never thought of. I don't know how she juggles all the customers with such efficiency and always smiles....never misses greeting you when you come in the door. Just a very pleasant shopping experience. She offered to see if it could be repaired by replacing one part that might be the culprit and she will give us a call in a couple of days. Rude! Not willing to help! I just needed some assistance with a child's sewing machine! Turned me off for ever going back!

I would rate Meissner a 0 for sewing machine service, if that were a choice. I brought my sewing machine in for maintenance. I only use the machine for straight and zigzag stitching and thought that it needed some tension adjustment and cleaning. I was told that the charge would be $200, 1/2 upfront for the diagnostics and the remainder for the maintenance. The machine should be ready in 3-4 weeks. After 4 weeks, I called to check on the status of the machine and was told that it was 'unfixable' and was asked if I wanted them to dispose of it!!! Granted this was an old machine, a Singer 1987 model that I inherited from my deceased mother-in-law. It was an expensive machine for its day. I asked the person in the sewing center if they could give me an explanation. I was then told that the parts were not available because of the age of the machine, therefore, the buttons with the fancy stiches could not be fixed. (which I never used). They did not let me talk to the technician and at this point, I decided that I wouldn't do more business with Meissner. I took the machine to Vacuum & Sewing World in Folsom to get a second opinion. They didn't charge for the diagnostic and the technician/owner got back to me in 5 days. The machine DIDN'T need parts, and he repaired the machine within 5 days. It works great and I am a happy customer of Vacuum & Sewing World, and very disappointed in Meissner, who has been around the Sacramento area for many years. That was the reason I selected them first, but will not do business with them again. 6/11/2023 I am happy to report that Meissner does read their reviews posted through Yelp. They apologized via email and refunded the $100 for the diagnostic and will use the criticism constructively to change their repair policy. read more

Bought a Janome sewing machine and it works great. Meissner offers introductory lessons on how to use and care for your machine. I highly recommend the Folsom location where I took my class. I purchased my machine at the Sacramento location and found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable. I also had an older Bernina serviced and it works beautifully. read more

There is no need to go anywhere else but Meissner Sewing and Vacuum Center in Folsom if you are searching for and interested in supporting your local neighborhood business. September of this year I was in search for a replacement foot pedal for my 29 year old Singer sewing machine which never gave me any problems until this past year. As soon as I entered the store Megan welcomed me and asked if there was anything she can assist me with. I showed her the foot pedal I had brought with me and let her know I needed a replacement as soon as possible since I was sewing face masks to donate at that time during the pandemic. She let me know that she would have to order one for me and could take a few weeks to arrive. I asked Megan if she could show me some of her sewing machines that were comparable to what I was using. As we were walking towards the sewing machine tables on display. I saw the Bernina machines and mentioned how those were my "dream" machines. There was a sale going on however I didn't have the budget for one at that time. She showed me the Bernette 38 machine which is from the Bernina family and on sale as well. I fell in love with it however unfortunately we found out there wasn't one in stock so she then showed me the Janome machine which was very similar to the Bernette 38 and said how there were 6(?) on the table in the area and she would just have to double check that one was available to sell. One of the ladies from the counter overheard us and mentioned how all were already spoken for and not available however Megan still went to check each box on the table. The lady from the counter mentioned more than a few times how 2 of the machines were for herself to take home and the other ones were already spoken for. I was disappointed however Megan did not give up and was on a mission to help me get a machine in my hands to take home that day. We looked at a few other machines which I liked as well however none of them were in stock and would have to order. I was beginning to feel as if every machine I wanted and within my budget was not available for purchase and would have to go to another store to purchase a new machine. Megan then asked me to please wait while she asks her manager a question. She then came back cheerfully to let me know they can sell me the floor model of the Bernette 38. Wasn't a new machine like I wanted however Megan let me know the floor models machines were just as new and in good working condition. She earned my trust by that time and so I took the offer as is without any additional discount being a floor model. The time and kind energy that was shown by Megan was truly appreciated and made me a new loyal customer to the Meissner business. Every time I have been in the store since then I have only received the same friendly and very welcome helpful customer service as well. Fara helped me out one time getting a walking foot for my machine when they were out of stock of the B38 ones..she did some research on line and then asked a coworker to confirm if the Janome walking foot would work on mine and found out it would so I was able to leave with a walking foot. Fara also showed me how to install the walking foot onto the machine and let me know I can video record her on my phone so that I could rewatch once I got home in case I needed to! She took the time to make sure I understood how the walking foot worked and answered all of my questions. Another time I called to say my machine wasn't working and how the screen was showing an error read. Fara who took my phone call suggested I come in and she would see what can be done. When I arrived Fara greeted me and let Megan know what was going on. Megan was so very kind and helpful by taking a look at the machine and took a great deal of time trying to figure out what the matter was and lo and behold with her magic and skilled knowledge she was able to fix it herself! There was no need to send the machine to the mechanics and she saved me once again....There are not too many businesses where customers are welcomed, greeted and taken care of in such a kind and friendly manner as the team here at the Folsom store. I have worked in retail and the customer service industry myself for over 18 years including upper management for most of those years before stepping down and relocating our life here in a new county so I know a incredible and awesome team when I come across one and this team here at Folsom fully understands and cares for their customers! read more

I brought my sanitary vacuum in to Messner, sewing and vacuum recently, because my rabbits had chewed through the cord and we weren't able to repair it this time. I was impressed that the employee saw that I was parked their business and came out and lifted the vacuum out of my car, which was very, very sweet. It's not a heavy vacuum, but I have a bad back. He was able to give me a quick price estimate, but told me it would be a couple of days before I would get a firm estimate after they had diagnosed the machine. I went in there only for cord replacement, but I've actually never really been happy with the vacuum itself. When I got the estimate, there were several parts that needed to be replaced, which I agreed to. I got a call as promised within a couple of days and it didn't take long to get my vacuum back. well, I was paying for the repairs he told me that the vacuum bag was free because they had not included in the estimate. I wanted to reward them for being such an ethical company but he refused. He mentioned that I practically had a brand new vacuum and HE WAS RIGHT! This vacuum performs 100 times better than when I first got it. I have to say, I'm actually enjoying vacuuming now, if anyone can enjoy vacuuming. I can't say enough about their professionalism, honesty and work ethic. Those qualities are something hard to find. I would not hesitate to recommend their business to anyone for their vacuum needs. read more

Took my Viking machine in to be repaired. Was told the company had gone out of business and they could no longer get parts. I ended up just leaving the machine and had to buy a new one to complete my project. I walked in today (6 months later) and they have a whole lovely display of new Viking machines. My review is ONLY for a website purchase and the phone service I received from them. I have never been in their store. I was shopping for the first sewing machine I would ever buy. Not the first I owned, I have had three 1960's-1970's hand me downs in my 51 years, first my grandmothers, then my great aunt's, then my mother in law's. It was time for my own. I don't sew tons, but I want to start making clothing. I will never need 60 or more stitches, so I had about 6 features I wanted from a sewing machine, and I saw they listed one that met my needs as "available" on Meissner's website. So I called to ask a question about the machine, just to confirm what I was about to order. The woman I spoke to answered my question, told me they did not have one is stock, (at which point, I told her their website said they had one "in stock" with a check mark next to the word). She then tried to upsell me a different machine, saying: "I have something else in mind that I think you will be happier with." The machine I was looking at online was $399. The one she had in mind? $1,400, and this was after I explained to her that I was out of work due to Covid. I was definitely on a budget. Her suggestion was ludicrous, and it was apparent they get a commission on their sales. Who in their right mind would try to sell someone who just said they were unemployed and looking at a $399 machine, one that costs $1,000 more dollars? It was insulting. Oh, and btw, this woman also told me they had a list of people who wanted the machine I was about to buy online, who had been waiting for 2 months for their same machine. Then, after I hung up, I went to Meissner's website, and ordered the machine that was listed as "available" (paid for it). When I got a call a few days later, I had a sinking feeling it was them calling. The man who called me to tell me "they just sold their last one within the last week" was lying to me. I called him out on this claim, given the woman I had spoken to a few days earlier, had said people were waiting for 2 months, I relayed this info to him. He did not deny they had been out of it for that long, stumbled a bit in his talk and changed the subject to asking me what I wanted to do. I wanted my damn money back to buy the machine I want somewhere else. I was trying to give a local business my money. Bad mistake, I guess. Then I had to wait 7 days to be issued a credit on my credit card, before I could order another machine online to be shipped to me from someone else. So they were knowingly posting they had a machine in stock on their website, when they had not had one for at least 2 months. Very dishonest. I hate a hard sell, and I rarely will use a business that has a commission based structure. I don't walk into buying a major purchase blindly--ever. I read hundreds of reviews, compare products, narrow down my desired features, and choose thing that best meets those desires for a reasonable price and warranty. I will never give this business my money. They are dishonest, and only in it for themselves. read more

My sewing machine has a personality of its own. I rarely use it, but recently the bobbin thread kept tangling and disrupting my creative endeavors. Luckily I found Meissner in Folsom on Yelp, and was able to get it quickly fixed. The staff is great, I wish I remembered the name of the lady who helped me. Not only did she do a quick repair at no cost, but she gave me an impromptu lesson on what types of thread to use and the correct bobbin. It seems I was the culprit for using cheap years old thread and old bobbins. I highly recommend Meissner. read more

This company saved me. I was in the middle of a project I had to finish and my machine was acting up. I called to see if they could repair my machine while I waited. They couldn't, but Vickie, who answered the phone, asked me the problem, which had to do with me taking the bobbin case out and not getting it back together right. She actually took the time to tell me how to fix it myself, and I did, I am so impressed with the customer service here. Even tho I live forty five minutes away they are my sewing store from now on. I am fairly new to Folsom and have called this location twice now to get a price or to see if they have the item I am looking for. Last time the lady kept me on hold for over 10 minutes. Today She did not keep me on hold as long but when I told her what I was looking for it was like I was bothering to see if they had it and the price. She literally gave me a list of like 4-5 things she would have to do to see the price.... I called about a freaking vacuum filter mind you for a brand they sell! I hung up on her... Meissner lady know your products or don't work the phone because 1. you get reviews like this and 2.I ended up going to Bed Bath and Beyond because they had it and actually were able to take a call..... so much for small business. read more

I LOVE Meissners! From my first encounter with the store in Folsom just looking for fabric to going there as often as possible now, I love this store. The staff is exceptional from Vicky, to Elaine to Phyllis to the gals at the check out counter are friendly and put the customer back in customer service! Vicky and Elaine go out of their way to do 'extra' things and are so very helpful during the classes I took. Vicky sold me my very first babylock serger and I confess I am in love with it as well. Then Vicky helped me get my dream machine, my embroidery machine. She is no-pressure and just plain high value. If you have a problem or need help on a sewing project they are all right there to help and inspire. One of the best things about the classes is the people you meet who then become your new best friends. Meissners creates community and brings together those who want to learn and those who want to learn more. I love the fabric selection and the endless sales. Its a happy addiction. I started going on Thursday nights and Vicki, the class instructor, always has something new and fun to make - or we can make whatever we bring to class. I recently moved to Sacramento for one year. I brought my sewing machine with me. I tried to sew something and found that it was just not behaving correctly, bobbin thread wouldn't pick up, etc. I researched some places in town and someone recommended A-1 Meissner. What I loved is that they looked at the machine with me on the spot. She saw what was happening immediately. I decided to get a new machine, and they gave me a great deal on my trade-in In addition, they spent a lot of time showing me how to use my new Brother Project Runway. I love it. In short, excellent product supported by an excellent store facility and staff. In details, the Miele vacuum cleaners are sturdy, well-designed, dependable and durable machines. We have had one for fifteen or twenty years, and finally it showed some of its age. We used a borrowed no-name for a while and recently bought a Miele canister vacuum. The company has made improvements all along but we haven't seen any until we got this one, it is a good schooling on how to improve on excellence. Staff at the smaller store (Cindy in Roseville) and at the main store (Caryl [not sure I got the spelling correct, sorry]) are very knowledgeable and can answer a great variety of questions about comparisons among the different models. We believe we have the best features for our needs and we will be back. The store address at the top of this page may be for one of the smaller stores, the main store is near Business 80 and El Camino Avenue, you have to turn on a couple of small back streets to get to the store. If you are at all interested in sewing machines and quilting machines, it is worth the trip just to see what the 21st century has to offer in those kind of machines, they are amazing.
