we bought a new Miele here and were sold some accessories that were for a different model. After using the vac for a while and checking inside, we found the bag was very full but the bag full indicator had never come on. we returned to the store and paid almost $300 for "repairs". We used the vac a few times and found that although the bag - that had been installed during repairs in the shop - was not full, dirt was blowing past the bag, and an incorrect filter, for which we were charged, had been installed. when I returned to the store, the owner talked over me, told me the part was wrong but took no responsibility for anything and insisted I had to leave the machine with him again. Recently took my Miele that hadn't been serviced in a while and wasn't working properly in to have it tuned up. The owner located several issues, explained what needed to be done and the cost, which I thought was reasonable. The work was completed in a timely manner and when I picked it up they demonstrated that it was now working properly. I was very pleased with the service and the fact that I was dealing with an experienced professional who clearly understood the product and how to keep it functioning properly. I've gone here a couple of times. The first time I took my trusty old Kenmore canister vacuum because the power switch on the hose handle had broken after about 50 years of service. The clerk told me it was impossible to find parts for a vacuum that old. At my request, he kept the vacuum for disposal. The second time I brought them the hose assembly for a much newer Kenmore upright vacuum whose hose had pulled out of the connector at the suction end. To fix it I had to separate the two parts of the connector, and I couldn't figure out how to do it. The clerk said he didn't think the hose could be fixed. He called his repair person, who confirmed that it could not be fixed. He offered to try to find a replacement for the whole hose assembly, so I gave him my phone number and left with the parts. When I got home I looked up the vacuum on eBay and found that I could buy a new hose assembly for about $40. Then I gave the repair another try. I found that I could easily pry the hose connector apart with a screwdriver; I just hadn't found the right place to pry. I had it fixed in about 10 minutes. It's been a week now, and Sewing World hasn't called me. If I were relying on them for expert advice, I'd probably trash the upright vacuum, too. Now I wonder whether my old vacuum really couldn't be repaired. Kenmore still makes vacuums that look very similar; did they have any reason to change the shape of the hose connector or the power switch? Since I no longer have the vacuum I can't check the model number and look for new parts, but if I could, I might find that I could buy a new hose for that one, too. Or even a new switch. Maybe Sewing World led me to throw out a beloved appliance, replacement cost about $275, for want of a readily available part. The next time I have a vacuum problem, I will take it anywhere except Sewing World! read more

I have been on the market for a vacuum for about 2 years now. We got a Dyson stick vac since 2019 and although it does the job, I was never really satisfied. Researching online led me to a couple of brands, Miele, Sebo and Karcher, but there's only a few dealers I can find around. Everywhere, those brands are priced really high, and the one usually offered in big box stores are the toned down version that isn't really reliable or has a weak motor. Howard answered my questions in great detail and it aligns to what I researched online. He took his time and greatly explained the pros and cons of the vacuums. I ended up buying a Miele C3 Kona which I think fits the needs of our small home. Howard gave me a quick walkthrough for the vacuum which I really appreciate. I used the vacuum as soon as I got home and I was blown away. The unit was so quiet, my wife didn't even notice me vacuuming. That thing is able to suck up every nook and cranny that my stick vac can't reach. And from what I see online about it's reliability, no wonder it's expensive (my wife doesn't know though haha). I have a 70 year old Singer sewing machine that needed a "tune-up." The thread would get loose and looped up underneath the fabric. I was concerned that it would not be repairable due to its age, but they did a fantastic job. It's as good as new, and they even replaced the lightbulb that had burned out. I would highly recommend Vacuum & Sewing World for sewing machine repair and maintenance. They offer free estimates and are timely in responding back to you and in servicing your machine. I went first to Meissner, who charges you upfront $100 to look at the machine. My machine was in running order. I use it strictly for straight and zigzag, never using all the fancy stitch buttons that are available. I thought that it just needed a tension adjustment and a cleaning. They had the machine for 4 weeks and told me that it was 'unfixable' and asked if I wanted them to dispose of!!! This Singer machine was expensive when it was purchased in 1987. Maybe Meissner just wanted me to buy a new machine from them. The technician said that the machine was too old to get parts. Luckily I found Vacuum and Sewing World for a second opinion. They got my machine back to running perfectly with no parts needed, just a cleaning, lubrication, and tension adjustments. Thank you. read more

I definitely recommend Vacuum and Sewing World to anyone in search of a new vacuum or in need of getting an old vacuum repaired, cleaned and/or reconditioned. I came to the Folsom store in mid-April this year with a good friend of mine because I wanted to buy him a Miele vacuum cleaner as a belated birthday present. My friend knew next to nothing about vacuums but has a cat and was in desperate need of a vacuum that worked. (I bought my own Miele vacuum in 2005 at a family-owned vacuum/sewing store in Coos Bay, Oregon, so I already knew that Miele is a reliable brand of vacuum to get, and I also knew that it's better to buy a Miele at a store staffed by people who have expert knowledge about vacuums.) The salesperson, Alfredo, was very helpful, kind, knowledgeable and patient, and answered all of our questions. I bought my friend the Miele Brilliant model because I knew it would last him for the rest of his life and I knew he would love it. My friend has had only good things to say about the vacuum since bringing it home. He's used up one bag already. On this same visit I brought in my own 20-year-old Miele Blue Moon canister vacuum with its power head brush for repair, cleaning and an overall tune-up. The power brush had so much hair in it because I hadn't had it serviced in some years. The latch to the lid was broken as well. Howard, the owner, did a fantastic job of getting the vacuum back into great-working condition. I was afraid he might not be able to get the part for the lid since it was already 20 years old, but he was able to find the part and have it the vacuum ready for me to pick up 4 weeks later. My sewing machine had a minor issue (backstitch button broken) so mom took my sewing machine in here to surprise me with a fixed sewing machine for Christmas. She ended up paying $150. I tried to use it the other day and the backstitch button is still broken AND something was "fixed" and now I can't even use my sewing machine, it keeps snapping needles in half!! The girl who works in the store is SUPER sweet though. Now I have a completely useless sewing machine and my mom is out $150. I had a small kitchen appliance that stopped working because a screw came loose. I could not reach in the spot to replace the screw. I tried everything. Someone suggested to me that I bringing it here to see if they might be able to fix it. Lucky for me I had the pleasure of meeting Howard the business owner at the Folsom location. He was so friendly and within 10 minutes I was walking out the door with my item fixed. No charge. I would've happily paid. What was so refreshing though was just honest old fashion customer service. There were a few other customers being helped while I was there. I observed the same courteous customer service with them as well. Because they were busy, I expected that they may not be able to help me but I was delighted that they checked on what I needed and gave me the same level of attention and customer service even though they realized I had an atypical, minor repair. I am a sewist. I sew my own clothing. I use a Singer Talent machine that was not cheap. The owner(?) was dismissive and rude when it was brought up I have a Singer. He cut me off, said it wasn't a "real" sewing machine but a "toy", and pushed the only two brands he sells there. My machine needs a tune up but there is no way in HELL I'd take it to this guy. Rude, dismissive, and I'd be very wary leaving my machine with a guy who so clearly thinks any machine other than the two he sells are trash. HARD PASS. read more

Product - a Miele vacuum cleaner - is outstanding. However, the experience purchasing it, and then later purchasing vacuum cleaner bags and filters were some of the most distasteful we've had. The primary sales person, a woman, was, on both occasions, argumentative and downright rude. It seemed as though her primary purpose was to insult us and make us, her customers, wrong at nearly every turn. I won't shop there again, and can't recommend it. I took my sewing machine for service. I was quoted 5-7 days which is 3 weeks less than the other place in folsom. I was called 2 days later that it was ready. I have a basic machine that was only a few hundred dollars. Not a fancy machine or anything. The other place quoted me a minimum of 129 to service it. Went in there to get an idea on how much it would cost to get my vacuum serviced. Owner took my vacuum to the back, plugged it in for less than 10 seconds. Came back and told me that the unit has never been serviced (not true - it has been serviced several times before), needed several parts replaced without even inspecting/opening the unit, and then gave me a quote for $169. He was unprofessional and almost accusatory about the vacuum never been serviced before. Was also trying to sell me a new one. Ended up taking it to Brother Sewing and Vacuum in Cameron Park. Way better experience. Oscar was professional and cordial. Inspected the vacuum and told me that I did not need to replace the parts. Only needed service for $60. Buyers beware. read more

I took my Pfaff serger in for servicing that another company couldn't fix. Upon my arrival, the owner took my machine and inspected it and told me exactly what was wrong with it. It only took a few days and I got my machine back fixed and cleaned. After I got home, I tried my machine. Well it didn't work for me. So I contacted the owner and brought it back in. He was very nice and showed me from scratch how to thread my machine (sergers are difficult to thread). Well clearly the things I was doing were wrong. He showed me step by step how to do it. He serged on a piece of fabric and it was beautiful. I took it home and followed his instructions to change the color thread. It serged beautifully! The owner made me feel confident that I could bring it in anytime if I had issues and he would help me to thread it or whatever problem I was having. I give four stars only because the service was a little pricey. But I am a happy customer! read more

Confused. I took my expensive Dyson in for a check up. It suddenly seemed clogged up and wasn't working well after about four years of great service. After a brief "free estimate" I was told it needs a complete overhaul for a significant amount of money. I said ok and left the vacuum there. I waited a while to hear from them. At least a couple of weeks went by. Someone called me and said that the motor was completely burned out and it was not cost effective to fix it. With barely a pause, the man on the phone proceeded to try to sell some other very expensive vacuums. My gut told me something was funny. I picked up my vacuum and took it home avoiding the sales pitch. My husband coincidentally received a well-timed note from Dyson asking how our vacuum was doing. Well, he called the number and told them the story. A Dyson outlet in the East Bay asked that we bring it in. They told my husband that a small inexpensive clip was broken but there was no major problem. The repair would be less than $50 whereas the estimate at this Folsom vacuum store was triple digits initially. We said please fix it. They cleaned the vacuum, made minor repairs, and in the end didn't charge us a thing. It's working like brand new. I'm not making accusations, but something is funny somewhere. read more

Only give it 1 star as the gal who answered the phone was friendly and welcoming so I brought 2 machines in. The guy who greeted me wasn't so friendly or welcoming. Just stated all the reasons my machines were going to be costly to fix Without even looking at them or knowing the issue. Pretty much snubbed me and my old machines. When I got home and googled my issue it was fixed in 5 min on one of my machines. An expert professional would have spent the 5 or 10 min with me troubleshooting the issue and even trying to help. It might have earned a better review and a trip back for future service. I'll go elsewhere next time. Good customer service goes a long way. read more

My wife went on Friday to look at Vacuums. We bought our last one based a review at Amazon and it was terrible. This time we wanted to see and try it out. My wife met a salesperson named Brittani who manages the store. She was friendly and knew everything about all the vacuums the store had. She allowed my wife to try out all the different vacuums until she found the right one. The one she brought home is solid and works well. Terrible, harrowing experience and deplorable customer service! I dropped off a school sewing machine for cleaning and when I went to pick it up they tried to give me an older machine that was missing parts and without a cover and insisted it was what I dropped off. The owner was contacted by phone when I said it wasn't mine and I then had a lengthy argument with a disembodied voice. First he said I didn't need a cover ?! Then he said my husband brought it in, gave it to him in that condition and told him the missing parts were at home. I said there was no husband or home involved, it was for a school and I had given my machine to a salesman, completely intact, with a cover. The owner repeatedly doubled down, insisting it was my machine, brought in that condition! I was seconds away from calling law enforcement when I noticed the model number on the receipt did not match the machine. Only then did they go back and find my machine which inexplicably also had my receipt attached to it. The salesman reassured me that "you're not crazy. I guess this wasn't your machine" and instead of an apology told me " It was just a paperwork mixup. No problem. " News flash! It was a BIG problem for me! Apparently the assumption here is that the customer is always wrong. Although I will have to drive an extra hour for another repair shop, I will do so gladly. I found Vacuum and Sewing World AFTER taking my year old Dyson to another Vacuum store for a cleaning and to find out why the brush roller was not spinning. Not only was the other store completely rude, they had my vacuum for 6 weeks giving excuse after excuse as to why they had not diagnosed the problem. I finally had enough and picked it up in worse shape than when I dropped it off. I took it to Vacuum and Sewing World the very next day and within 5 minutes they told me what was wrong with my Dyson and gave me an estimate for the repair. A place to stay away from! Owner promises the moon to sell something but once sold and despite problems, you are stuck with it. I bought 2 high-priced Pfaff sewing machines and had major problems with one from the start. Owner refused to give refund and only offered 48 hours for me to decide to take an exchange. Since I got my belly full with this Pfaff machine, I didn't want another one. Am currently fighting this out with the use of my credit card company. read more

Please avoid this place at all costs! My Shark hose ripped so I took it in to get replaced and they replaced it with a standard hose that did not properly fit and they had the nerve to place the hose in with SUPER GLUE. As you can imagine the super glue did not stay so when we took it back to the store to address the issue they said they "told me to be careful with the hose" and that there's "nothing they can do to fix the problem". Since when is that customer service okay? AVOID THIS PLACE AND TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE. read more

This store truly doesn't even deserve one star. I would steer clear of this here if you are looking for timely sewing machine repair. After calling the shop and speaking with the owner, I learned that I would receive an estimate for repair within 24 hours of dropping off my machine, and that most repairs could be completed in seven days. Sounded good, so I took in my machine in Thursday, March 17. A nice young gentleman checked in my machine, asked for my phone number so they could contact me with questions about my needs, and promptly sent me away with a receipt showing the repairs I was requesting. Never was it mentioned that there was a quilt show at Cal Expo that weekend and my estimate would be delayed until the following week. So, by Saturday when I'd not heard anything, I called and was told that because of the quilt show, they would have my estimate to me by Monday. Late Monday afternoon when I hadn't received a call, I called the store - once again speaking with the owner because the main number is apparently his cell phone - and he told me I would have an estimate on Tuesday. Late Tuesday afternoon when I'd once again heard nothing, I went to pick up my machine so I could take it somewhere else. The girl behind the counter informed me that the owner hadn't had a chance to look at my machine, and, instead of giving my machine back to me as requested, kept it behind the counter because she wanted me to talk with the owner. I asked him to please return my machine to me so that I could take it elsewhere for repair. He became upset, saying it was next in line for an estimate and he could do it right now. I asked again to get my machine back and he finally gave it to me. He then appeared angry and said "you will not find a free estimate anywhere else" to which I replied, yes, I will, as I'm taking it to Country Sewing Center in Elk Grove where they are professional, more timely and NiCE! As I walked through the store and was Walking out the door, the gal behind the counter screamed to me - from behind the counter, mind you - "YOU WILL NEVER FIND A FREE ESTIMATE ANYWHERE ELSE!" Wow, shame on both of you! You lack professionalism and, truly, just basic manners. You will never have my business nor anyone else I can steer away from you. read more
