I bought an emerald, estate ring from a jeweler in Miami, but I wanted a completely different head put on the ring. I commissioned him to do this, putting in an emerald, surrounded by diamonds. I knew there were problems with the ring after I got home and was able to examine the ring with my reading glasses. Shortly thereafter, I went to Key West for a week. I happened to enter Emeralds International and struck up conversation with Carl and his father-in-law. As someone else said, I've entered jewelry stores where I've felt totally out of place (I'm a jeans and shorts gal). I was very comfortable in this particular store. Though elegant, the people working there made me feel quite comfortable. After a brief examination of my emerald ring, Carl cautioned me about wearing it when I left as the center emerald was about to fall out of the setting. I explained to him my concerns about the ring and though he encouraged me to take it back to the original jeweler to repair, I declined, asking if he would look at it and possibly create a new head for my ring--one that was more like I wanted and without the inconsistencies. And that began my most wonderful experience with Emerald International! Carl then closely examined the ring and pointed out numerous problems with it: two of the marquis emeralds had significant problems with the prongs (one emerald was simply glued into the ring, which Carl found out upon later examination); three of the four prongs holding the center emerald in place were either cracked or insufficient to protect the stone; a diamond was missing up near the head; another diamond on the other side of the head was cocked and askew; there were significant problems with the diamonds surrounding the center stone (placement, cracks and other issues with the prongs, etc.). Carl sat down with me and we drew out a diagram of exactly what I wanted in a new head and to fix the stones along the band. During the 8-9 weeks my ring was being "reborn," Carl kept me apprised of what was going on. I was concerned that I didn't have enough diamonds to surround the center stone in the channel setting I wanted. Carl called to tell me we needed to add a few more stones to make it fit like I wanted and charged me wholesale for those diamonds. Finally, the day came when my ring was ready. I drove down to Key West (taking some other jewelry I had) to pick up my ring. It was stunning. The craftsmanship was professional and beautiful. Carl fixed a couple of prongs in my other rings and a crack in the shank of another ring (free of charge). While I waited, I spoke with Carl's wife and one of the employees who works there. All of the individuals are fonts of information. I love learning (which is appropriate since I am an educator) and I learned so much from all of the wonderful people who work in Emeralds International. Though many of the items there are expensive, you get what you pay for--as I learned from the first jeweler in Miami. The quality of both the items in the store and the jewelry they design is exceptional. If you are looking for custom work, or beautiful designs, emeralds or a knowledgeable jeweler, I cannot recommend Emeralds International highly enough. They are down to Earth, trustworthy, educated, artistic, and honest. You can't go wrong with anyone there. I just wish I had more money to purchase more jewelry! read more

I have lived in Key West for 26 years, and I have only the highest praise and admiration for Emeralds International and its' marvelous staff. When I decided that I wanted to buy a special ring with a nice-looking stone, I checked out this business, on a recommendation, and was very impressed by the friendly, professional and very knowledgeable staff. Carl helped me to decide on the right ring. There are so many fabulous and unique pieces of jewelry at this store. The owner has decades of experience and knowledge behind him, and it shows. With my budget in mind, Carl helped me decide on a Caribbean Blue Topaz ring. It is a work of art, indeed. I have gotten so many compliments on this fine ring, its' unusual stone, and unique setting. Carl and the staff at Emeralds Int'l. have gone over and beyond in cleaning the ring for me whenever I stop by...and when they do it, I feel like I have a new ring again! Whenever I stop by and browse at the fabulous selection, I always see something I would like to have. However, my tastes and my budget don't always gel. GREAT Jewelry and GREAT Service!!! While vacationing in Key West for the holidays I broke one of four prongs holding the diamond in my ring. I took the ring to this jewelry store hoping that they also did repairs. I was met by a very pleasant, helpful, and unaggressive staff. The jeweler informed me that he could fix the prong then went above and beyond by inspecting the ring and identifying additional areas of weakness where other prongs had worn down. He indicated that he could reinforce those areas in order to avoid another prong breaking (which could lead to the loss of my diamond). To top it off he was able to repair the ring in a very short time frame. I have to say that my ring looks better now than the day it was given to me! Although I didn't purchase any jewelry, I did look around. WOW, what a great selection! The pieces in this store are to die for. They are so different from the typical pieces found in many jewelry stores. If you are looking for an eye catching piece this is the place to go. The Emerald Team assisted me today in a slight emergent situation with my wedding ring. Short story- my ring finger had swelled and I couldn't get my wedding ring off. The swelling had gotten worse over a 24-hour period. I tried all the usual ways of attempting to get a ring off which obviously were unsuccessful. We were window shopping in one of our many trips to Key West and found ourselves in the store. I never thought about buying emerald jewelry before, but found a ring that caught my eye. I purchased a diamond emerald ring after the wonderful sales man (Bill) showed me all my options. A few months later, I had an accident with the ring. I emailed the store and they were wonderful. They send me a box and insured my ring to ship it back to them. I picked up my ring when we were back for New Year's Eve and Bill insisted in cleaning all my jewelry while I waited for the ring. We have purchased jewelry from various stores but I have to say the customer service here is exceptional. I truly love the family atmosphere yet their inventory and prices are as competitive as the jewelry chains. I rarely do reviews and in most cases it's to report poor service, poor product, and a warning to others. My opinion of Emeralds International is far from that. My long time girl friend and I are locals in the Florida Keys and decided to get married this past October and needed to get our wedding rings which can be a trying time. We visited several jewelers in Key West and found Emeralds International to be a class act in the business. They were the most knowledgeable, the most attentive to our needs and showed patience in our selection which took several days. There was no high pressure from them for a decision and even held the rings we were interested in till we decided. We found out later that they are family own and not a large corporation which explains theirs attitude towards customer service and satisfaction. I entered Emeralds International just to take a look at their beautiful jewelry and really enjoyed speaking with Marina and her husband Carl who are the lovely owners. It was great to listen to the stories of her father and how the business came to be. I was wearing an emerald ring that, a few years back had been damaged in a minor accident, and while I was there trying on jewelry Carl kindly took my ring, unmounted my emerald, adjusted the bend in the ring, cleaned and polished it, and left it looking stunning! I was directed to this store because it was one of the two places I had heard did in store engraving, and I needed something in a very short time. I was greeted warmly upon entering the store, and all of the associates were very attentive, nice and accomodating. Even though I was not in the market for any of their beautiful jewelry (maybe one day!), they were quick to help and treated me as though I was buying something far more expensive. I received my engraved item back within days and it was far more outstanding than I ever expected. I can't even begin to say how fantastic Carl is at Emeralds International. We went in with a design in our head for wedding rings and Carl was able to design them and take care of us. When we brought in our own diamonds for part of the rings, we realized that they weren't going to fit and were not good enough quality for what Carl was putting together. I have purchased quite a few pieces from Emeralds International over the past 10 years. It helps that I have known Carl since our childhood at high school.It is a small world to consider we both ended up in the same small town coming from South Africa. Carl has made my wife's wedding ring and along with some earings and emerald necklace pendants. The gentleman who would do the engraving was to be off work for several days, so they did a rush order on my job to accommodate my needs. Patricia and Stephanie were so helpful, and were able to offer creative suggestions so that I could fit exactly what I wanted in the very small space we had to work with. While vacationing in March I stopped into this store and was impressed with the selection and quality of their merchandise. While I did not purchase anything during this trip, I was impressed with their customer service. I apparently inadvertently left my driver's license in the store and upon returning home, received a letter in the mail with my driver's license from Bill Roberts. Second, they are fantastic to work with. We went here in December looking for some earrings. The owner did a great job of matching us with what we were looking for.
