We went to the store on a weekend. We were interested in a keyboard. There were 2 salesmen talking to one another in the front of the store. We found the room with the keyboards but many were not plugged in. After going to front to ask for assistance one came back and plugged one in but not the one we were interested in. He left to find a cord and never returned. After 10 more minutes we left. We were in the store at least 20-30 minutes and the salesman was with us about 3 of those minutes. The store at first had no other customers. When we left there appeared to be one young family looking at music. read more

Consistent I guess, this place has a bad reputation for a reason. They seem to have everything you need if you are a local musician from brass to drums. But go in and out and don't bother with talking to the employees. I am a musician from out of town just visiting family. From my experience, most people in the music world are chill and laid back, eager to help fellow musicians out. Not here... I was literally in his place for less than 15 minutes. I went in looking for guitar strings and to possibly just have them re-string mine while I was there. I went to a counter and was quickly told he was percussion and couldn't help me. When I got to the "guitar" service counter they talked to me like I had never bought strings before and were extremely impatient. After getting the strings they told me they couldn't re-string it because he tech wasn't in and explained to me that they also charge for the service. I honestly have never been to one music store that doesn't change your strings for you if you purchase at their store and why do you need a specific technician to change strings on a guitar? I take partial credit for my lack of attention to detail on this last point; but to top the entire experience off, with my normal 6 string in hand, he let me purchase strings for a 12 string. End sum, as I stated before, this place seems to have a good stock selection, but the employees service and attitude make me want to find another store, regardless of distance. read more

Been a customer for around 20 years, buying supplies and instrument repairs for my kids. Never super impressed with their customer service but will never step foot in there again. Brought numerous instruments to see if they were interested in purchasing them. I wish I remember her name but I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to figure out who it is. She was beyond rude. She was so condescending, making me feel as if I was offering up trash. Her remarks and attitude towards me was appalling. read more

My go to place as soon as i enter the valley they have everything u could ever imagine from brass/woodwind instruments to accordions and bajo sextos which i did try and where top notch nothing but high end bajo quintos and the best accordion player i have ever met i don't remember your name but he has a pony tail and looks badass and is super friendly ask him for help super humble dude but over all best music store in the valley! read more

My husband and I almost didn't come here because of the negative reviews. We were on our way to Hermes Music and happened to pass Melhart and decided to just see if it was as bad as others reviewers stated. So we braced ourselves for the worst and went in. We went directly to the cellos are were almost immediately greeted by a sales person (Ezekiel). My husband told him we were looking for a student cello and he immediately started looking for one. He said they had a few different options (price ranges) to look at and brought one out for us that was like new for around $700. He wasn't sure about the prices but waited with us for the lady (Suzette) that could help us. She arrived shortly and gave us a lower price, helped us pick an affordable hard case and gave us a nice padded soft case along with all the necessities. She also helped us size a violin for our son although we ultimately didn't take it. Now, we're beginners with string instruments that are played with a bow so maybe they sold us a bad one (and if that turns out to be so, I'll change this review). We'll find out. The customer service though, was really good. It's been years- This is a great cello, we will return and refer others. read more

The worst purchasing experience ever. Buyers beware. "That's not my department." "Don't complain to me, complain to the owner." "If you don't like it don't come here." Recently I visited the store and these are all comments that were made to me by staff and management. My child started taking violin lessons and we needed some supplies. We called ahead and they confirmed they had them in stock and would put them aside. Upon arrival nobody new what I was talking about. They sent me from department to department. When I attempted to lodge a complaint they all passed the buck and screened my calls for the owner. When I finally spoke to the owner to voice my concerns he didn't care either. You would think for such high ticket items they would be more concerned about the customer experience. I guess the empty parking lot should have been my first sign. read more

Horrible experience at this store will not be coming back. I came to purchase an instrument for my child and have him sign up for lessons, but will be taking my business elsewhere. One particular employee was very rude and talked down to my child while we were deciding what instrument would be best suitable for him. Never in my life have we been treated like that. read more

I warned my son about this place, and unfortunately he couldn't wait for guitar center, here it goes, they seem to have "employees" with a job that maybe doesn't pay well and then hard working educated people like us walk in, and maybe they feel offended because that is the only place they'll ever be able to work at and they just go silent no offers to help 0 people skills/customer service, my son completes the purchase without help, and not even a thank you have a good day. We recently brought a violin in for new strings and some adjustments. We had a very nice gentleman who helped us as we explained what we wanted done. He told us what he could do and gave us an estimate and also a time frame for the work. The work got done and on time and his estimate was just as indicated. We were pleased. We also looked around the store and had very polite people ask us if we needed assistance and they also answered questions we had. We had a very good experience here and will do business with them again. read more

Melhart's is a great music store. They've always given me a good deal. They have a great selection of guitars, basses and gear. Plus an in-house guitar tech and electronics technicians that are really good. Plus they offer lessons for all ages for various instruments; i.e. guitar, bass, piano, violin, etc..etc... I highly recommend going there whether it's an instrument for your child or yourself. read more

Bought a rechargeable tuner from there that I was told was an excellent tuner. Took it home and the tuner doesn't tune half notes and battery life is about 5 to 10 minutes tops. I took it back to get a refund and the idiot at the front desk tells me first they will only exchange but not return, I asked to speak to the manager about this and the coward stood 20 feet away and asked me for a receipt, I explained to him that I have the credit card I purchased it on from two days ago but lost the reciept and he just waves his hand and said no. I wouldn't buy so much as a guitar pick from that collection of $#$%ing idiots. read more

My husband and I went to Melhart's to purchase a portable PA system. We found one particular employee to be extremely rude. The employee helping us connected our eBand JS-10 to several PA systems to allow us to hear the sound each provided. The very rude employee started playing music very loudly through a mixer board and large speakers right next to us for no good apparent reason because he was not showing it to anyone. It was so loud that it hurt our ears and made it impossible to hear the systems we were trying out. He was very aware of the fact that we wanted to hear the systems we had come in to try. We also could not carry on a conversation with the sales person helping us. It is very sad to also say that our sales person said nothing to the rude employee to get him to stop. We also asked about some other systems we would liked to have heard, but were just told they were more expensive. It was very apparent that they were not interested in making a sale. Therefore, we went to Hermes Music where we found employees willing to bend over backwards to help us and show us what they had to offer. It is also at Hermes Music where we purchased our portable PA system. Wonder how long Melhart's can stay in business when they don't take care of their customers. They certainly missed out on this purchase. Oh, and by the way, we spent over $700.00 at Hermes Music. read more
