Looking for local coffee shops while in town and luckily this shop was very close to where we were staying. Very cool little shop, nice ambiance, cool merch if you're looking for nice coffee themed gifts, and a friendly staff (especially since I don't speak French). I decided on the Dulce De Leche Latte for me and my wife and they were very good so good went back twice. One of the things that blew our mind was the Everything Bagel Scone it was delish and is a definite must try. Full of flavor, nice crunchy outside, cream cheese and bread in the middle was soft and perfect. They do have other selections of scones, croissants, and muffins as well but that Everything Bagel was boom. This shop is a definite must go to if in the area and I totally recommend it. read more

Very short walk from our hotel to get coffee. Didn't want to get the Starbucks that was attached to the hotel. Had the maple latte and that was really nice. Wasn't too sweet and was well balanced. Wish that the espresso they used packed more of a punch. But that's the only feedback I have. But overall better alternative to Starbucks. read more

This is an cute hole in the wall with amazing coffee and pastries! It's south, just past the Chez Paree. (I think they may be known for pasties, not pastries.) Melk is next to a parking lot entrance. The emplane very friendly and enjoy what they do. This is not Starbucks with one gallon size cups and 100 sugar Syrups. But they have great lattes, and Banian's mocha lattes which are packed with caffeine and not overly sweet. Just how I like them. I'm not a muffin man, but when on Montréal breakfast is "continental". I asked if they had anything with apple in it. The server suggested apple carrot muffin. OMG! It was perfect. It was more of an apple muffin with a few chunks of carrot, which is perfect for me. See the photo below. It has huge soft pieces of ! The muffin was extremely moist. Amazing. It gets a line quickly in the morning before 9:00, but passes fast. read more

Found this place conveniently located at the corner of the parking garage where we left our car during our stay in Montreal. Seemed very busy on a Monday morning but managed to get a table after the morning rush left. Had a London fog (not pictured) and couple of scones. The scones are nice and crispy and not very sweet. Cute and quaint little coffee spot. We were in the area and wanted to find an indie coffee place and this popped up on our radar. It's in a pretty unassuming location but as you step inside, it immediately feels warm and cozy and inviting. The place is tiny - there's inside seating, not much though so grab one if you see a free one - a bar height counter up front with 2 stools in the front window facing the street, a few small tables and chairs and a couple of banquettes. Immediately noticed lots of repeat customers coming in (the sign this place is legit) - a steady stream of them but the lines consistently get cleared out without a long wait (#praise). We were there mid afternoon on a weekday. Awesome, friendly and quick service. One of us had a hot Maple Latte - a little bit too sweet for my companion's liking. My other companion and I both had an iced Dolce de Leche Latte - delicious, not too sweet, just the right amount of ice and silky smooth. We hung out for a bit inside to sip and enjoy the ambience. It was a nice little respite but we also would have enjoyed taking the drinks to go had we not scored a coveted seat. Recommend! read more

Someone needs to offer milk or dark hot chocolate options in Toronto! I went to get a hot chocolate and was surprised to hear that you can choose between the two. There is also an option to add a marshmallow and ofc I said yes! I felt like a kid in a candy store. The drink was perfectly smooth with a hint of bitterness for the dark chocolate. Coffee shop thoughts from a non coffee drinker: First things first, check the menu for all non-coffee drinks....no ice tea but they have hot chocolate hmmmm...maple latte, maybe that'll be sweet enough to balance out the coffee taste..... goes with maple latte. *takes first sip* where the maple at tho. This just tastes like a latte, albeit it does go down smoothy for someone who doesn't like coffee.... acceptable but still would've liked the maple taste. The cafe is quite small, lots of people on laptops working. I wait for a table to open up and sit down. Success, a plug right next to me. But then... the horror. NO WIFI. *sighs* Inner struggle: To stay or not to stay. All jokes aside; I know it is quite possible to get work done without wifi, it's actually better for concentration but sometimes I need to google stuff and if there's no wifi.... I flounder. Typical millennial behaviour to be quite honest. I fully own up to it. I was meeting someone for coffee so I didn't really need wifi anyways but I was planning on staying longer after my meeting to study and write a paper. But aside from that it's a cute cafe, I managed to finish the latte (an accomplishment), I had a good chat and the seating was quite comfortable. It is very small though so don't expect to walk in and get a table right away. Also it gets quite drafty inside so if you're looking for the perfect winter cozy cafe experience TM, not the best of the best. But big props to them for having the most convenient plug locations. Had a wonderful cup of coffee at Melk this morning, joined with some pleasantly rich yogurt with fruit and granola. I didn't try their espresso but the menu looked pretty solid there, and they had lots of people ordering that so I imagine they can deliver on that as well. Food + Beverage: I had a Pumpkin Spice Latte w/ Oat Milk and a Pizza Scone; they were both very tasty! I love the various "milk" options, they also had a Macadamia milk that I'm going back to try! Service: The cashier and barista were both attentive and very pleasant! Atmosphere: The only reason that I didn't give 5 stars is because they do not have internet. I'd hoped to get some work done while enjoying my coffee and a snack, so I was a tad bit disappointed. A small but lovely coffee shop featuring delicious espresso drinks and a few pastries. I had been in search of a really good cup of coffee in the area and Yelp pointed me in the direction of Melk. I had already eaten breakfast so I wasn't snacky but a caffeine kick was definitely necessary. When I arrived I was the only one in line on a Saturday afternoon so my trip here was brief but memorable. The barista was super friendly and told me about a few drinks they offered. I didn't go crazy, just got a plain old latte, but it was probably the best coffee I had my entire time in Montreal. I usually buy beans when I go to a great coffee shop during my travels and I regret not getting a bag here, the coffee was that good. I just didn't want to carry them around with me that day. Thought for sure I would get a room temperature scone but it was surprisingly warm!!! At 2pm!!! They just made a fresh batch! That made up for the fact that the cashier did know what was what. There were scones that were clearly blueberry but she tried to convince me it was orange and raisins, because that's what the sign says. I just pointed to the exact piece and said whatever that is. Turned out to be blueberry and chocolate. I took a star off because of this only because the staff should know what the are selling as people may have allergies. This time they had a number of sweet rolls as well. Hard to choose but I was in need of the perfect scone which can only be found here. The latte was fantastic and while I was diligently Yelping away, my drink was brought to me by one of the staff that remembered me. It's been a while since I was here. Man, I feel special. I'm surprised at how much I like this place! Came by on a Sunday afternoon to work a bit. The service was super fast since there weren't that many people there, but eventually the traffic picked up within the hour. I got a large iced americano, which was light and refreshing. Still feeling caffeinated a few hours later, which is definitely a plus for me. When I was working, they were playing the entire Enrique Inglesias Insomniac album, which was a great throwback. The music volume was a bit loud, but I had headphones, so it wasn't a big deal. Like mentioned in other reviews, there was no wifi, which I actually liked since it meant fewer distractions. We stopped by on a quiet Sunday morning for a coffee. The cafe was quiet and calm but I'm sure during the week it's quite busy. We ordered two cappuccino's, one with oat milk and the other a regular. Both were very good, a nice size, averagely priced and topped with pretty milk art. Reviews said that their pastries were good so we ordered a raspberry, blueberry oat muffin, which was very good! The baristas were kind and friendly and served us quickly. We enjoyed our coffees so much we decided to buy melk's filter coffee beans (350g for $20) for our AeroPress. read more

A cute, tiny and cheap hidden gem. I had a large macha latte and a apple/zucchini muffin. Delicious!... ...And affordable! The matcha latte had this distinctive slightly bitter and gritty matcha taste and feel. It was vibrant and well balanced. The muffin was definitely "homemade". I could only describe it has the muffin baby of a zucchini bread and apple crumble. I could hear the delight of a table neighbour, trying the chocolate scone. It was small but cosy. read more

I really enjoy Melk. They have a great indie vibe inside with gorgeous windows and natural lighting. I like the wooden tables they have as well as the gorgeous marble tables. I love that all the tables are square. One of my favorite things are square tables to work on instead of circular ones. The only downside is that this cafe has no wifi like many sit down places in Montreal and there is a high amount of traffic through the cafe on a busy afternoon. They have a great selection of drinks and I had an amazing matcha green tea latte. I'm not always an espresso in the afternoon kind of person so it's good to have alternatives. Overall a great place to grab coffee with a friend or take a breather off the busy St. Catherine's traffic when shopping. Would come back with friends in a heartbeat. read more

I've been to the NDG location of Melk and loved it but since that neighbourhood is out of my way I was very happy when a second Melk opened up downtown. In this part of Montreal Starbucks and Second Cups abound so an alternative is always welcome. It's just south of Ste Catherine and the space is pretty small but its the same high quality product as their NDG location. They have a small selection of baked goods but they are one of those places that goes for quality over quantity. My chocolate chip cookie was moist and fresh. It was as good as any home-made product. I also enjoyed my iced latte which wasn't bitter at all and was quite refreshing. They don't have wi-fi which is really the only complaint I have. I was here to do some work so internet would have been nice. Apart from that though this is a an excellent option for coffee if you're in the downtown core read more
