Terrible experience with Melton Design and Build. This company is completely disrespectful and irresponsible. They show zero consideration for their customers or the neighbors. Instead of parking responsibly near their job site, they repeatedly block neighbors' driveways--sometimes up to five trucks at once. They leave junk scattered all over the neighborhood and have blocked elderly and disabled neighbors from reasonable access to their homes. When asked politely to move their vehicles, they respond with mockery rather than respect. I would strongly advise anyone to think twice before hiring this company. read more

Melton installed the wrong wood floors on our remodel and actually argued with me that I was confused. His workers are great guys but he is not a good person to work with or otherwise! We went on to build a 2 million new home and went with a much better general contractor in Hammerwell.. Ty Melton will reply to this post that I am not in his records as this was a while back but nevertheless heed the warning!!! I am posting this now bc I was not social media savvy back in the day and a dear friend of ours had a horrific encounter with Mr Melton 5 months ago hence the warning.. be smart and look elsewhere! read more

Melton Construction stepped in to finish our business build out when our previous contractor damaged our space, quit, then filed bankruptcy. We were immediately put at ease with their professionalism and time management. This was not an easy task as we were completely distrustful of the industry after our experience with the first contractor. I would not hesitate to use them again for a business or home remodel. Just wrapping up an addition to our place in Boulder. Wasn't cheap, over $400,000 spent thru the process with Melton. We have used Melton from the beginning, from planning, design and construction. Melton estimates low, bids higher, and then charges even more. By underbidding, they get an extra 20%. No penalty or consequences for bad "estimating" and their token allowances are an absolute laugh. Haven't seen their extra 15% over ordering of siding and materials which they claim they do for overage. So much for all inclusive. Just want our project done. Melton Design has a New Owner, Graham Steers.....seems Ty Melton, the brains and brilliance behind Melton Design Build, has moved on. Graham has NO CUSOTMER SERVICE. He treats his clients with disrespect and has ZERO people skills. I predict, Melton will fail going forward. I for one, will have to swallow a little vomit every time I see an Orange Melton vehicles around town. Should they step up to the plate in the next few weeks and blow my socks off, I will recant. But certainly doesn't look promising. After reviewing previous postings on the service provided by Melton, this sums it ups best: "They came across initially as very competent and reasonable. I learned the hard way that they are extremely overpriced, and their work lacked an attention to detail and quality that is hard to describe...... We just added a front porch and it was done by Melton. We couldn't be happier with the results. The step by step process was pretty much stress free. They really have an eye for detail. We had such a great experience with Adrian and then with Scott as our project manager. Jim and Michael were so great during the construction period and we never felt that they were invading our space and were annoying. When we do more work on the house we will 100% use them again and (fingers crossed) get the same team. Thanks for the great work! read more

Should have known by the garish yard signs... I was so disappointed with the work. Boohoo! Its been over a year and my husband tells me to let it go, but I can't! I was so disappointed and we tried SO many times to get them to understand, but at the end of the day they just didn't care. So when the ridiculously overpriced cabinet door came loose the other day, I snapped. Never commented on anyone online. Just joined Yelp to tell this sad story. I cannot speak highly enough about Melton. We took multiple bids to have a remodel done to our small business and Melton was the only company willing to work outside our business hours in such a way as to avoid us having to shut down. Erik Carver led the bid process and was professional, detailed and communicative. He was extremely thorough and receptive throughout the entire bidding process and really took the time to understand what we were after. Once the project began Matt Fitzrandolph took over the on-site management and was incredible throughout the process taking the time to tend to every detail and keep us informed. Both he and Erik were incredibly responsive to questions throughout the entire project and it was clear that they had thoroughly vetted their subcontractors, all of whom did exceptional work and were equally professional. The final product of the remodel was everything we could have hoped for and has positioned our business for our next chapter. We couldn't be happier! Melton just helped us increase the energy efficiency of our 1901 Boulder home in Newlands. We had them blow in insulation into our basement and attic, as well as seal our exterior doors. They did an incredible job. It cost exactly how much they quoted us up front. They showed up each day when they said they would, and they were friendly and respectful of my home. Everyday when they showed up, they told me what they were going to do, and asked if I had any questions, and did the same each evening when they left for the day. I felt very in the loop about what was going the whole time. I'll absolutely hire them again. read more

Overpriced, shoddy work, lack of communication. We hired Melton Construction to do some energy improvements on our older home, including installing a new hot water heater, sealing air leaks in the attic and other areas, blowing in attic insulation, and repairing a large hole in the drywall in the garage from a previous plumbing leak. They were more expensive than the other contractors but at the time of the initial interview with them they seemed to be more knowledgeable than the other contractors we talked to, and very professional. They kept us posted by email and phone about the start date, and were accommodating about adding more work- we also decided to have them wire in 3 new light switches while they were there, so that this work could be done in the attic before the insulation was blown in. They started work when they said they were going to, and kept us updated on their progress. On day 3, when they were supposed to be done, they had finished the majority of what they were supposed to do. However, there were still a few more details to be finished, including taping and mudding the new sheetrock in the garage, installing pipe insulation on the water heater (which came with the water heater we had purchased, but then disappeared/got thrown away), and installing the remainder of the outlet gaskets, as well as doing the final blower door test to see what impact the energy improvements had made. Up until this point we had been fairly satisfied with Melton's work, but at this point, after putting up an advertising sign in our yard without our permission, they completely dropped the ball. Despite repeated communications from our end, we heard nothing back from our project manager for 5 full days. A couple days later (a week after they were originally supposed to be done) they did come back to do the final work, but it was then another few days before they finally told us the results of the blower test. The original goal, stated in our contract, was a 40% or more reduction in hourly air exchange (house air with outside air)- from a starting point of 98%, they verbally told us they were confident they could get our house down to about 50%. The final test showed only a 29% reduction, to a final value of 69%. We were quite disappointed with these numbers, particularly after the amount of money we spent to improve our energy efficiency. Also, one of our main concerns that we communicated from the beginning was that our basement area stays very cold/doesn't heat well- this has not improved at all either. I emailed our project manager with these concerns and have yet to hear back. Also, just today when I was going to change out the large faceplates the electrician installed for smaller ones, we realized that the electrician installed the incorrect type of electrical box on 2 of the 3 new switches they installed, and both of these were crooked/not level as well, which is very disappointing and unprofessional. Overall I would not recommend Melton Construction to anyone, and I would not use them again. They are overpriced for what you get- at first glance they seem knowledgeable and professional, and they keep this us until they are almost done, but then they drop the ball and don't follow through with the details, don't stick to deadlines, don't seem to care if their/your goals were met, and are poor communicators. read more

Amazing contractor! We had Melton Construction restore our old home and they did an amazing job. It was a large project and the organization of the project manager helped it go smoothly. Their architect is so talented and so creative. Every one of their subs respected our home and did such an amazing job. The Melton staff was always available to respond to our questions, needs and concerns. I called this company on 9/25/2015 to get a quote for one of three additions to my home in Boulder. I was very disappointed and, quite frankly, flabbergasted, at how I was treated and made to feel like my particular project was beneath them to even consider. After wasting a good deal of my time getting personal information about me and hearing about one of the projects (master suite above our existing 3 car garage at our primary residence), the representative turned very indignant when we asked to have a representative come out in person to discuss the project rather than spend so much time on the phone trying to describe the project to her. After insisting that we be able to meet with a qualified agent of the company to discuss our project and in person, she proceeded to tell me in no uncertain terms that she didn't think our project or personalities would be a good match for the Melton company. I've worked with three design build companies in the past 8 years on various properties we own with great results...but this is the first time I've experienced a company that attempted to make me feel like they were doing me a favor in just taking my call and allowing me the opportunity to be graced by their magnificence. Wow! To say I was taken aback by this attitude would be an understatement but better to find out now then after handing over our hard earned cash. I will be sure to share this experience with all of my friends and associates looking to build or remodel. Keep up the good work Melton. read more

We used Melton for a home renovation in 2013. It took us a while to decide to go with them, their sales person did a good job of staying on us, but never being pushy. As the process developed they listed to what we wanted to spend and gave us good advice on what to spend $ on, and what not to. I remember one of their subs, the hardwood flooring guy, showing us how he would do something differently, that was $10,000 cheaper. I really respected that. The crew that was on site was easy to work with, very professional, and nice to our whole family. A few issues came up during the project, and they will on any renovation, Melton handled them all well and got them resolved for us. We just listed our house for sale and it sold in about 5 hours. Both myself, and my wife, felt that the good advice, and good work we got from Melton, made our sale that much easier, and allowed us to get top dollar. I would recommend them to anyone who understands the different between cost and value. They provided great value and we would use them again. read more
