Service has been inconsistent at best. The bbb shows numerous complaints. Trying to call them is impossible. Buyer beware!

They did what would be called an illegal install in Clermont County BY NOT pulling a permit to replace the water heater, now 4 months later they still have not pulled a permit, and keep running in circles around the subject, but only "WHEN THEY ACTUALLY ANSWER" the calls from me (literally returned a call one time out of the more than 10 times I called after) and my warranty company (also more than 10 times). ALSO, apparently ONLY the company who does the water heater install can purchase the permit, so no other plumber can do it, and they are unresponsive now to the warranty company for the permit and the repair. They have lots of excuses, but no actions. They are going to get the permit, a month goes by, now someone is in the hospital another month goes by apologies...etc... etc... IF YOU LIVE IN CLERMONT COUNTY DO NOT use them. The permit central said they are not even registered in the county to do work, so they can't pull permits to do the plumbing. ALL THIS after I paid an additional $1000 for things not covered like the permit I didn't get, a new expansion tank, modified copper pipes and a drain pan. Had a plumber look at the work and notice things I did not and said that even if they had pulled a permit, it would not pass inspection, so either way I'd be in this boat. They put the drain pan in, left the spout zip tied to it and left my drainpipe that was already there, that leads outside detached and open to the outside. Because the relief valve discharge pipe is not directly connected to the drain pan and drain, it will NOT PASS INSPECTION!!! NOT TO MENTION if it leaks or needs to be drained, I am apparently out of luck, and it is going to go all over the house. FYI...The International Residential Code, which forms the basis of building codes in most U.S. jurisdictions, requires anyone who installs, replaces, or alters a plumbing, gas, or mechanical system to obtain a permit before starting work. Water heater replacement is not on the code's list of permit-exempt projects. read more

Was a little concerned when seeing all the 1 star reviews, but I couldn't be happier. Our sump pump went out on the weekend and water was about to pour into our finished basement. I called HSA Home Warranty (our home warranty company) and put in a claim that they assigned to Melton Plumbing. I saw the reviews and was a little reticent but I received a call first thing Monday morning asking me about the severity of the issue. Nate arrived first thing the following day, checked things out and got everything resolved (new pump). They were fast, communicative, punctual, and did a great job. So much better than what I had anticipated. Thank you Nate and everyone there. It was a little scary thinking the basement might flood and I sincerely appreciate your concern and prompt attention to getting things handled. (1 star) I had a water heater service appointment scheduled through American Home Shield for February 17, 2026 between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM. I was told the service would be handled and received confirmation messages, but no one ever showed up. It is now Friday -- four days since my scheduled appointment -- and I have been completely ghosted. I have called repeatedly trying to reach someone with no response. My warranty company, American Home Shield, has also attempted to contact them multiple times on my behalf and has not been able to get a response either. No courtesy call, no cancellation notice, and no follow-up after missing a confirmed appointment. Being ignored like this is extremely unprofessional, especially when customers are waiting for essential repairs like a water heater. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company due to the lack of communication and reliability. read more

I have contacted American Home shield and contacted my lawyer at this point. This is crazy. You have sent out Wayne and Nate. Wayne replace the t&p valve... that's not the issue. Then Nate came out and turned the hot water heater down and said that would fix the problem. That didn't work. This water heater was installed Dec 31st and we paid out $1,000 for the water heater through American Home Shield and it has been leaking water ever since. You all reviews on Google and the BBB are horrible and I feel as though I'm being played with at this point and yall are robbing people for their hard earned money. This water heater needs to be replaced ASAP as it's a faulty water heater and your company is playing with me. My lawyer will be in touch with your company or American Home Shield. Failed Diagnosis, No Follow-Up, and Complete Lack of Accountability Melton Plumbing was dispatched through American Home Shield to address a major plumbing issue at my property. The problem was simple to describe but serious in impact: the main drain line from the basement to the street was clogged, backing up, and flooding two connected units. Before the technician arrived, I made sure detailed notes were provided to the dispatcher explaining the issue. When the plumber arrived, he did not review those notes, did not listen to my explanation, and did not take the time to inspect the line properly. He did not snake the drain, test the flow, or check for blockage. He looked at the cleanout, put the cap back on, and said everything was fine. He then left without resolving anything. His report stated there was "no mechanical failure" and that "everything worked fine." This was completely inaccurate. The only reason the line seemed empty was because it had already drained out from the last flooding event. The real issue was that the line from the property to the street was obstructed, which would inevitably cause another backup. I immediately called Melton Plumbing after the visit on Friday and requested a call back for Monday to have the issue corrected. No one ever called. During my chat with American Home Shield, their representative said they would send an email to Melton Plumbing to follow up. That contact never happened either. Neither the technician nor the company made any effort to follow up, inspect the issue, or offer a solution. Because Melton Plumbing failed to act, the line continued backing up. I had to hire an emergency plumber out of pocket to prevent further flooding. The emergency plumber inspected the line, confirmed a severe blockage, and snaked the drain properly. The problem was fixed in one visit. This confirmed that Melton Plumbing's diagnosis was wrong and that they had not done even the most basic troubleshooting. What stands out most is the total lack of accountability. * The technician ignored clear instructions and refused to investigate. * The company did not return calls or respond to follow-up attempts. * They left a serious plumbing hazard unresolved, which led to more damage and expense. * There was no concern for the urgency or the customer impact. If you need a plumbing company that listens, inspects, and solves problems, do not call Melton Plumbing. Their poor communication, lack of professionalism, and refusal to take responsibility caused unnecessary stress, property damage, and out-of-pocket costs. I am giving this respectable company a 5 STARS for their competency, honesty and professionalism. I will definitely keep them as my trusted plumbing service. Joe (I don't know his last name) was patient and knowledgeable. He even called Mr Melton who explained in laymen terms how my sum pump should work. Do they even have licensed plumbers? I had a guy show up who called himself a "tech," had a couple tools with him and not much else and did not seem to know much about plumbing. He could not remove my sump pump cover, so did he cut the pipe and use a cheap fitting to replace? NO! He CUT THE COVER and just left it, with debris from his sawzall inside the crock. The company then agreed to send someone out on Friday 01/09 between the hours of 8a and 5p. 5p came and no one showed --- no call no show. How is this company in business? I called and left a voicemail on Friday evening and it is Wednesday the following week ----- still no returned call?? AVOID THIS COMPANY. Like many others AHS referred this company to us for a new water heater. After 30 years of service my heater broke down. Basically the drain line go brittle enough to snap off flooding my basement. They were nice enough to schedule an appointment the next day but never showed or called. Finally got a hold of them on the phone and basically accused me of lying saying that a spigot can't just snap off. That I had to have twisted it off. I've never touched that drain line in 30 years. Because of their review to AHS, without actually seeing the tank, AHS refused to replace a tank. Melton did send me an estimate for $2500. Me and my buddy put in a new one ourselves for the cost of the take, a old Lego set I had an extra off and a steak dinner for him and his wife. Saved about $1750. Place makes all plumbers look bad. This was one of the worst contractor experiences I've ever had. My home warranty company sent Tom Melton Plumbing for a leaking tankless water heater. Brian arrived, took the unit apart, and then called his manager, who said the tank needed to be replaced. I was told it would cost $1,300 and that the warranty would only cover the tank, not the labor. The manager repeatedly emphasized that I had children in the house and needed hot water ASAP. Brian promised to return first thing in the morning and said the job would take about two hours. Then things got even more questionable. The manager offered to "discount" the labor from $1,300 to $700 if I gave Brian a five-star review online and joined their "five-star club." That alone felt inappropriate and manipulative. The next day, no one showed up. No calls, no texts, no answers. Completely ghosted. When I contacted the warranty company, they told me both the tank AND labor were fully covered and I should not have been charged anything out of pocket. Because Tom Melton Plumbing left us without hot water and stopped responding, I had to call another company (Eco Plumbing) to replace the unit, which cost me $3,800 out of pocket. Between the misinformation, the pressure for a fake five-star review, and the total lack of follow-through, I would never recommend this company to anyone. Terrible service! My Home warranty referred Melton Plumbing. Two junior plumbers arrived at my house and looked at the leak in my shower head and called the office. They did not have the tools to fix the leak. Melton plumbing called me the next day to schedule a another appointment with a senior plumber. The next week Zach the senior plumber arrived. He turned on the shower head and noticed where the leak was coming from. Zach then, turned off the water to the house. After spending 20 minutes assessing the problem, he tells me what the problem was and that he would contact the home warranty company. After contacting the home warranty company he tells me that he is the messenger, an that my home warranty will not cover the cost to repair the the leak. Zach says the cost will cost around $1900.00. I refused to pay the cost and decided to have a second opinion. I felt that I was being over charged. I asked Zach to turn off the shower head. Now there was more water leaking from the shower head and the faucet. He said I can fix it or turn off your water to the house! Zach made the leak worse and could not stop the water from leaking unless he turned off the water from the basement. I called Melton company to complain. They said there way nothing they could do, unless I paid the price to fix the problem. I contacted my home warranty to discuss other options. I will never use Melton Plumbing again! read more

Responsible for flooding our basement when they sent out a young man who I don't believe was certified to check our sump pump. Their own person came out and said that he hadn't put a brace on correctly-yet they'd take no responsibility and we had to eat the cost of all repairs. The owner is absolutely rude and crass. It appears to be common to have problems when putting in a request through American home shield. I had a leaking faucet they had to replace the stems front and back side to my shower while doing this the knobs where damaged by the tech. He said he would come back and fix this error but instead another fee was paid 7 appointments where made and canceled across a months time. The conclusion was they waited after several appointments and then denied the repair saying it would be at my expense and that the tech did not do any damage! This the worse plumbing company probably in America. This tech came to our house and did not even ring the doorbell and was leaving when I noticed him outside and then he pulled back into the driveway so basically, he was going to say that we didn't open the door or we were not at home. He looked at 4 running toilets in 10 minutes and said they were fixed when in fact he did not fix anything. The main thing this tech was worried about was leaving our home and going on a trip to Florida. AHS needs to get rid of this company and I let them know that they would not be allowed back in our home to do a follow up and they needed to send another company. Melton Plumbing was a subcontractor for HSA Home Warranty, which covered a housed we'd just purchased. They came out, diagnosed the issue, (outside of the warranty since the warranty company notified us that the repair would not be covered) and agreed to fix the problem. With raw sewage in our tub time was of the essence. The company did come out twice and did some work but didn't finish the job and just stopped communicating with us about next steps (we paid them for their services on the spot each time they did work). I honestly wish AHS would read the reviews of this company before they contract to send them out to their members! I have a home warranty with AHS and submitted a service request (Nov. 2) for a slow drain in my bathroom. My son had already snaked the drain and we knew from previous situations that the stoppage would be further back than we could reach with a non-commercial snake. I also added in that my toilet was running intermittently and I'd like to have that addressed as well. Initially, Melton Plumbing was VERY responsive. They sent Brian right out. He came out looked at the drain, tried the same snake method my son did (essentially did nothing) and then said that he would need a water jet and would return the following Wednesday. He did not check the toilet. I guess they would rather spend 5 minutes and get their fee than actually do the work! AHS advised that once they come out, even if they do nothing, they get paid. NO appointment time was given for Wednesday and no one answered phone calls or text messages when I called to narrow down a time. By 4pm on Wednesday, after no one had showed OR CALLED, I again tried to call Melton Plumbing to find out if anyone was even still going to come out on that day. No answer. I reached out via text and phone. No answer. The following day, I reached out via text and asked about having a rescheduling from AHS and James responded very quickly. James stated that the company has been going through some internal changes and as a result has had their team "running around like chickens with our heads cut off". James was pleasant enough and he actually called me to discuss my plumbing issue and apologized for the lack of communication, so I rescheduled with Tom Melton again for the following day (Friday). I was once again given an entire day for a scheduled timeframe, and I informed James that I have a standing appointment from 2.30p - 3.30p and that there would be NO ONE able to be at my home until either AFTER 3.30p or BEFORE 2p. James advised that because of the hassle and lack of communication, he would assign me the first slot of the next day - - and asked for patience as the team with the water jet was coming from Dayton and would only get to me as early as 9a. Fast forward to 8a the following day and I get a text that says my service window was from 3p - 7p! I immediately began calling and texting to correct this as I had WRITTEN confirmation as to my previously AGREED upon appointment time. The person responding to the texts was rude and told me that they schedule however is best for THEM - - and then asked me to give them a 5 star rating. To which I replied, "It has been TWO WEEKS". I informed EVERY person I spoke to in this situation that I have ONE bathroom and without a working toilet and sink, my home is in hardship. The person who FINALLY came out on that Friday still did not have a water jet. So another service call was needed. We are on the Friday BEFORE THANKSGIVING and I have no fully working bathroom. Jasmine was finally scheduled to come out and fix my sink and toilet - - Monday just before the holiday and she did show up and she DID fix the issue. SHE was the only positive thing I can say about this company. The issue was an additional $650 more than the already paid service call fee (to AHS), and it took more than 3 weeks to fix a slow drain, but Jasmine was nice. I am in the process of comparing new home warranty companies that WILL NOT contract with Melton Plumbing and leaving AHS for this disastrous and very stressful situation. read more

I filed a claim with American Home Shield, they sent the work order to Melton's. Melton's said they had an employee out for a while and that they could not have a person to come out and diagnose the issue with my hot water tank, but they did a facetime with me and said they would need to order a part. The person on the phone told me they would get back in contact with me once the part arrived to set up a time to install the faulty part. This was in JULY 2024. It is now the end of October 2024. I have sent several messages, none of which have been returned. I contacted American Home Shield and they tried to contact Melton's and have not been able to get a call back. My issue is still not addressed and I have already paid the $100 deposit for a service I have yet to receive. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I see I'm not alone with my opinion. I was woken up at 7:15 this morning to be told my window for arrival was 8-12. Thing is, call was supposed to be from the plumber between 7:30-8 telling me which person I was on his route. Obviously not the case. It's an hour later and I get a response to my email requesting better information saying they're CANCELING. Thing is THEY DID THIS LAST WEEK except didn't even contact me: I had to keep calling their ridiculous phone lines where nobody answers and voicemail boxes are full to find out nobody was showing. 1) This work was requested through 2-10 Home Warranty, 2) I always pay my service fee, period and the problem I had with this company, was not about the service fee, it was about the incompetence, 3) the technician was uninterested in me reduplicating the issue with the clogged gurgling toilet. 4) 2-10 HOME WARRANTY SWITCHED ME TO A DIFFERENT PLUMBER TO ACTUALLY GET THE JOB DONE.*****BEWARE OF MELTON PLUMBING****** Here is my experience: I was given an 8 hour window initially, then the morning of my appointment I was given a 5 hour window 12pm-5pm and then a 4 hour window 1pm-5pm, technician James with Melton Plumbing arrived at 4:30pm and basically tied up my entire afternoon. When I asked him if he was going to be able to get any work done with how late it was and I asked him if a busy day delayed him, he said "let's see what you have going on, I have had 12 services today." I advised him of the toilet in the guest bathroom that I have had to plunge over and over anytime anyone has a bowel movement and puts toilet paper in it and that I have tried everything from pouring big pots of hot water down the drain to plunging the hell out of it and also draining the tank and cleaning the jets to remove any hard water buildup. He said in a condescending tone, "well it flushes just fine", I said well anytime there is a bowel movement and toilet paper put in it, it struggles to flush and there is a loud gurgling sound, would you like me to throw some toilet paper in it and flush it for you to duplicate the issue? He said "that's not necessary, I will request approval to remove the toilet from the ground to inspect further". Then he moved to one of my sink faucets that continue to stick, and I explained that I have to keep applying wd40 to loosen it up, he turned it on and said again in a condescending way "works just fine", I said that's because I have to keep lubricating it. Then he proceeded to my other toilet that continues to run over and over after being flushed and he said it needed a flush valve. He then proceeded to ask me for the $75 deductible my warranty requires. I said, you have not done any work yet and I'm concerned that you are unsure if you can fix my other clogged toilet, I said let's wait until you get approval and I will gladly pay you the deductible. He went out to his truck to get the flush valve. At this point I was not feeling good about the visit or how tired and disinterested he was in truly helping me with the major concern, a clogged toilet that could lead to overflowing and causing me more damage. So I went outside and asked him if he could just replace the flush valve when he came back to unclog the toilet, he agreed and left. What I didn't realize is that he had already turned the water off and tampered with the flush valve. So I had to turn the water back on and the toilet is now running even more and is acting up even worst. At the bare minimum he should have told me that he had done that and I more than likely would have allowed him to finish the job. On a side note, our home smelled like cigarette smoke for nearly an hour after he left and my Son and Grandson are highly asthmatic. It was not a pleasant experience to say the least. Shortly after he left, my warranty company called me to advise me that James from Tom Melton Plumbing called in advising that there was nothing wrong with the guest sink or toilet, and that the master toilet needed a flush valve and apparently did not mention the sink in the master bath where the drain stopper was not working. I asked about the master sink and she said he did not mention it?? I asked if he requested authorization to remove the guest toilet to troubleshoot the clogged toilet, she said he did not. So basically James from Tom Melton Plumbing, went out of his way to try and sabotage my ability to get my toilet unclogged under my home warranty. I then explained to Maggie in the claim department my experience with James and 2-10 HOME WARRANTY SWITCHED ME TO A DIFFERENT PLUMBER. read more

American Home Shield customer, Tom Melton was the plumber in November 2024, had a issue with the water valve inside the toilet tank, it needed replacin, tech explained he had to replace all parts inside of the tank, it's now August 2025 and I'm having the same issue, called American Home Shield, they sent a recall to Tom Melton to contact me, I had to contact them and explained the problem, American Home Shield read the invoice to me stating that all parts were replaced, told American Home Shield that couldnt be true because the valve cap that hold the hose inside the tank was glued, Tom Melton rep said it wasn't replaced, so who's lying, Tom Melton rep refused to accept accountability for their screw up, do not do business with this place, they are full of crap, so now I have to pay another service fee to have my toilet fixed by a professional plumber, someone at American Home Shield needs to do their homework and TOM MELTON PLUMBING NEEDS TO GO OUT OF BUSINESS, they are frauds read more

This is literally the worst service I've ever seen from any service technician. I have dealt with them twice because for some reason, my home warranty company keeps assigning them to me. The first time was for a water heater, and that got to be such a debacle, but the owner actually called me. That conversation consisted of him, insulting me and telling me how much money he had. Ultimately, I got another plumber to come out and fix the problem. Fast forward to a year later and I had an issue with a toilet. His technician showed up 4 1/2 hours late after repeatedly telling me that he was 15 minutes away. When he showed up, he looked at the toilet and literally shrugged his shoulders. Location shows Niagara Falls due to previous review - review is for Central Ohio - Marysville area. Negative star rating applies so much better than any star for this company and their customer service. Not only are they a rip off for 'out of pocket cost' to 'bring connections up to code' to remove and install a replacement water heater, they DO NOT keep to schedule - multiple times I had to reach out to American Home Shield to get them to reach out to Melton to escalate our water heater replacement. Ironically, AHS could get them to answer the phone 3x, but we only got voicemail at least a half dozen times within a 3 day period. Day of 'we will finally be there' repair day - 4 hour window phone call never occurred. I contacted AHS to completely cancel Melton after reviewing all the problems online with dozens upon dozens of other customers. AHS is offering me a whopping $482 'cash out' offer for what was their cost for an AO Smith water heater that cost $1200 at Lowe's. I'm told this is their wholesale cost so that's all I get back as cash out. The receipt I requested from Melton for breakdown of their $1450 out of pocket cost I had to agree to amounted to easily less than $250 in plumbing parts to 'bring to code' my water heater replacement. One star because zero isn't an option. They came out and snaked my drain and temporarily fixed the problem and told me it will probably happen again. So when it did I called my home warranty company, Cinch who also is awful, to send them back out. They came out and said oh my equipment won't fit we will send them a report.
