One of several kitschy gift shops on Hawthorne, Memento PDX is a little smaller than its direct competitor, Presents of Mind, which sits a block away on the same side of the street. There is some overlap in the types of goods for sale here, but there are some unique finds here as well. Shopping at Memento PDX is a bit like combing through the garage sale of a hoarder with a taste for collectables and oddities. Almost everything for sale falls under the umbrella of "I don't *NEED* this...but I *WANT* this". Several items seem to exist purely because someone felt the need to take a pun and manifest it into the world as a (highly questionable) objet d'art. Attempting to categorize the variety of items for sale here is a bit like trying to describe the Matrix: you have to see it for yourself. Definitely worth a visit, if you find yourself out shopping on Hawthorne. Whether you're looking for a quirky gift for a friend or loved one, or finding that odd little trinket that tickles your funny bone just right, there's plenty to choose from here. And unlike the movie that shares its name, you will have little trouble remembering your visit to Memento PDX.

Very cute shop on Hawthorne. Packed full of goodness and kitsch, there is a small trinket for anyone on your list. Nice looking candles that have just the right amount of smell. Prices are very reasonable, the employee working the day I stopped in was very friendly and helpful. I look forward to coming back on my next visit to Portland.

This is one of those kitschy gift shops and like other reviews have mentioned, it is similar to Presents of Mind. Jewelry, local artwork, cards, hand-painted belt buckles, wooden animal skull necklaces (yep, and they were very cool, inlaid wood), mugs, craft paper, odd items that you wouldn't normally buy except for gag gifts because you can only find them in places like this. Unlike other reviews the woman working was helpful, we didn't find what we were looking for but she did assist us. It's a small shop but they cram a lot of trinkets in to it and you can wander around for over an hour and not really observe it all. I will admit, it's not a place I'd go to all the time, but if I had that certain friend that was hard to shop for? I'm sure I could find something pretty cool here. Enjoy.

Great for quirky gifts at varying price points. Was exactly what I was looking for on the hunt for a friends bday gift.

Got the cutest hedgehog kitchen timer here! It will go great in my kitchen and maybe it can be friends with my hedgehog Rolo.

This is all I am going to say fellow Yelpers... This Cutlery Shop is BADASS…read more Customer Service was simply the best... had a extensive collection of vintage cutlery and kitchen paraphernalia. David even had a great sense of humor and also recommend some good local eateries which I tried and now recommend to others. If you need your knives sharpened or just need to buy another knife to add to your collection then Hawthorne Cutlery is your spot. So let it be written... So let it be Sharpened.

Third time I have tried to go here during their "hours of operation". Doesn't answer phone, doesn't…read morereturn messages, apparently never there. Very frustrating. Apparently the place is cool but has thus far wasted a combined hour of my time driving here trying to actually shop. I have money to spend, how do places like this survive? Don't bother calling to see if they're open, they're not, they don't answer if they are. Update: Received a call back. Immediately hung up on me with a very surly "forget it" before I could adjust my volume. Why the fuck would I give this asshole a penny? Rude to his customers, doesn't seem care about his shop, disrespectful of your time. Is this just a retired hobbyist who fucks around in his knife shop when he feels like it? What a joke. Also seen other reviews now saying this guy has made creepy comments on women's bodies. Glad I didn't end up coming here, would have brought a female friend.

This weekend the Portland Bazaar returned for its 9th year and as one would expect, it was crowded! But totally manageable. The space is bright and airy with lots of natural light. The variety of vendors and merchandise is impressive making it easy to find unique and meaningful gifts or something for yourself! There were several jewelry artists with unique and creative styles that I haven't seen elsewhere. I love jewelry and prefer to wear pieces that are individual and not mass produced. That's exactly what was showcased here. There were a few pottery vendors and my favorite, Pigeon Toe Ceramics, had a stunning display of serene, classic mid-century modern pieces. There was the normal coffee mugs and bowls, but what really stood out were the unique gravy pitchers, tiny creamers and soap trays. The colors were soft muted pastels and so soothing to the eye. I wanted everything on the table! Of course there were lots of alcoholic offerings and accompaniments: tea infused spirits by Townshend's Distillery; Portland Spirits was there with their amazing syrups, a much better alternative to soda and mixers (highly recommend the spicy ginger for killer Moscow Mules); pear infused vodka from Wild Roots, to name a few. And then there was Wild CBD, always the most crowded booth in this day of all things CBD. Les Tablettes de Chocolate had inventive bars loaded with fruits, nuts, herbs and spices in my favorite, dark chocolate. Their toffee was incredible. The presentation is beautiful and the taste superb. Baked goods were also available from several small batch bakers. One of the craftsman, Hew, had the most beautiful handcrafted bowls, containers, plates and utensils made from wood. So natural, simple - but hard to make - and incredibly gorgeous. They even had an area set up where kids could make hand painted ornaments, inspiring future crafters! Perusing the wares, marveling at the craftsmanship, selecting the perfect gifts and scoring spicy ginger syrup was a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Definitely make a point to come next year! They always post on Facebook when they have a show. The merchandise is special and high quality.
