I had great experience in this shop. They offer a lot of really cool books, tarot cards, prints etc. lots of neat gift ideas. If I hadn't been traveling/limited on luggage space, I would have bought more! This shop was inspiring though, and I'll have to see about ordering some of these items online. The value of the items was good/fair and the people working were nice. I did walk out with a gift for a family member that I think they'll like. Stop #8 on the "One Day of Adventure in Portland" If you find Powell overly busy and you need a place to chill for a few moments of mementos (see what I did there?), this is your place! First, cool magnets! I went with the Doxisaurus, a cute little magnet with the blended version of a dachshund and tyrannosaurus rex. ALSO, luckily, as I perused the store, there were signs reminding me that Father's Day was the upcoming weekend. I started to look at the greeting cards and discovered they had really cool greeting cards! I went with a card that my Dad got a good chuckle from. The person managing the store wasn't too friendly and I sort of got the vibe of "I'm watching you." But with such an elaborate selection of items, one probably can't be too cautious with their inventory. If you are in the market for small gifts and an assortment of cool things, this is definitely a great place to peruse! read more

One of several kitschy gift shops on Hawthorne, Memento PDX is a little smaller than its direct competitor, Presents of Mind, which sits a block away on the same side of the street. There is some overlap in the types of goods for sale here, but there are some unique finds here as well. Shopping at Memento PDX is a bit like combing through the garage sale of a hoarder with a taste for collectables and oddities. Almost everything for sale falls under the umbrella of "I don't *NEED* this...but I *WANT* this". Several items seem to exist purely because someone felt the need to take a pun and manifest it into the world as a (highly questionable) objet d'art. Attempting to categorize the variety of items for sale here is a bit like trying to describe the Matrix: you have to see it for yourself. Definitely worth a visit, if you find yourself out shopping on Hawthorne. Whether you're looking for a quirky gift for a friend or loved one, or finding that odd little trinket that tickles your funny bone just right, there's plenty to choose from here. Cute little shop with lots of fun, funny, cute or downright adorable options for gifts, kitchen, office & home goods. A good variety of crafty-cute & hilarious, so browsing their wares was a hoot. And the lady at the counter (she may be the owner) was so very nice, we enjoyed chatting with her and we swapped info on various happenings of mutual interest in the area. read more

My wife and I came in to buy a bunch of cute cutting boards for 5 of our family members for Christmas... however the women with the red dyed hair behind the counter refused to get off her phone - we asked her if there was more in back stock and she was extremely rude and acted like we were an inconvenience to her. Store itself is wonderful - huge assortment of local gifts, such as soap, gag gifts, small little books, and trinkets. You're definitely gonna find what you need here. Very cute shop on Hawthorne. Packed full of goodness and kitsch, there is a small trinket for anyone on your list. Nice looking candles that have just the right amount of smell. Prices are very reasonable, the employee working the day I stopped in was very friendly and helpful. I look forward to coming back on my next visit to Portland. read more

This is one of those kitschy gift shops and like other reviews have mentioned, it is similar to Presents of Mind. Jewelry, local artwork, cards, hand-painted belt buckles, wooden animal skull necklaces (yep, and they were very cool, inlaid wood), mugs, craft paper, odd items that you wouldn't normally buy except for gag gifts because you can only find them in places like this. Unlike other reviews the woman working was helpful, we didn't find what we were looking for but she did assist us. It's a small shop but they cram a lot of trinkets in to it and you can wander around for over an hour and not really observe it all. I will admit, it's not a place I'd go to all the time, but if I had that certain friend that was hard to shop for? I'm sure I could find something pretty cool here. Enjoy. read more

My girlfriend and I visited Memento on a trip to Portland a few months ago. The shop was adorable and filled with things that could keep us entertained for hours (if we had the time). My girlfriend purchased a small Queen Bee wallet that she adored. Flash forward two months to our home in Eugene. My girlfriend is devastated to find that she lost her beloved wallet. I made the decision to replace it for her as a birthday surprise, but the Queen Bee website was sold out. So I tried to remember that one little shop in Portland... ah, Memento PDX! I called the store and a friendly woman picked up. I explained my dilemma and she said that she had the wallet available and could mail it to me the next day. Two days after that phone call it was in my mailbox, just in time for my girlfriend's birthday. Not only was she friendly and efficient, she personally called me a week later to make sure it had arrived in time (she remembered it was a birthday present) and to check to see if everything went as planned. Very spendy boutique of all cute things. Came in looking for nothing in particular. Left with 2 Pre de Provence soaps. Enjoyable browsing, with panoramic temptation...like the inventory, especially for gift shopping. Such a cinch to blow a C-note here, and that's the truth. Whenever I need a diversion from life I step into Memento. A little gnome here (that doubles as a beer some time as I bottle opener) a naughty tongue in cheek ever-so-clever rear view mirror ornament (and who doesn't need that!). And a wall of cool postcards people! These artists are dreamy and weird and wonderful! Have you ever seen Amalie and thought "hmm, I like that weird alligator that talks...". Well there is a lot from that artists and I will say that I never can walk out that door without another small piece of postcard art to add framed to my wall. They don't greet you and they seem unhappy most of the time. Such a great unique little shop full of all sorts of things you wouldn't even think of! Stickers, cards, postcards, random fun and interesting merchandise to brighten up your home and work desk. Every corner turned was an "oooh" and "ahh" moment for me. The friendly staff greeting everyone was a bonus, customer service is key! I could have browsed around and touched and looked and played with everything! Came back home with a whole bushel of fun little trinkets to admire. read more

This place has Kitsch items for every taste...unique gifts that would make you stand out of the pack, although you will more likely walk out with things for yourself and not for others.
