I stumbled upon this shop while window shopping as a tourist in the neighborhood, and I'm so glad I decided to walk in. The store was full of cute and unique items, and it had such a fun, lively atmosphere. One thing that immediately stood out was how happy the employees seemed. They were singing, chatting, and genuinely looked like they enjoyed working there, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I also loved that they had four different popcorn flavors available to sample. They were all so unique and made it hard to pick a favorite. The chocolate selection was even more impressive, they had a huge variety of chocolate bars from both local and international makers, and I honestly had no idea what to choose. Thankfully, one of the staff members was more than happy to help and recommended the cinnamon chipotle chocolate bar, which ended up being such a fun and interesting combination. My favorite discovery, though, was the little chocolates by the checkout counter. They were almost too cute to eat! I picked up the raspberry chocolate, and I have to say it was one of the most unique and delicious pieces of chocolate I've ever had. I visited The Meadow recently with a friend who mentioned it was a great place to find unique chocolate, salts and other items that make excellent gifts. While, we were there, we realized that they had a nice variety of vegan truffles which I don't often see at many places. So I purchased the yuzu caramel vegan truffle and it was so tasty. The store is super cute and has adorable decor, the shop keeper was friendly and approachable and my friend was absolutely right about being a great place to find a nice gift. read more

I was drawn into this place because of the really fun and colorful decor in their window, and because the signs said chocolate! This place specializes in salt, and had popcorn available to try with their seasoning blends! There were also flowers for purchase too, a little bit of everything here honestly. The popcorn was very tasty with the seasoning they had on it! I've never seen so many unique chocolate bars in one space! It was a library of bars instead of books, each section separated by type of chocolate! I ended up purchasing a few of the truffles and one The Meadows chocolate bars that was popular called Bagel Milk chocolate. The truffles were delicious! What a warm, magical little store! Walking in feels like entering the cottage home of a French kitchen witch. They've got a table full of freshly grown flowers, shelves upon shelves of ingredients and pantry staples. And, perhaps most importantly, an entire wall of locally made or direct retail chocolate bars. Staff was kind and when the price rang up for less than what was listed on the tag, they gave the lower option. I went by the meadow today on my visit to Portland. This shop is pure magic, specialty chocolate, salts, flowers, bitters and liquors. This place is so dreamy. The woman working was incredibly knowledgeable and helped me pick out a few chocolates to try out. There was no questions she couldn't answer and her passion really shown through! I could have spent hours talking to her about chocolate! They usually have some popcorn for sampling with their different salts by the register which show how much these flavored salts make a flavor impact. Oh my gosh. This place is great. I don't know what you do for your birthdays, but in our household, the birthday person gets to choose an entire day of fun. Sometimes the birthday person demands company, sometimes the birthday person goes on a personal pilgrimage. For my 2025 birthday, I went on a personal pilgrimage to explore what was new (at least to me) on Hawthorne. And The Meadow was fabulous. First of all, I felt entirely welcomed. I could ask tons of questions and take my time and really explore all the options. Second of all, this place has a really cool assortment. What rocked my particular boat: a great assortment of bitters, with sparkling water and testers. There were also all sorts of flavored salt with popcorn and testers. And 1 million other fabulous items. If I lived around the corner, I'd be in trouble. As it is, I plan to go there every time I hit the Powell's on Hawthorne, which is incredibly close. I like the Meadow Store it is the funnest place to have some chocolates and I like how the people that work there are real about the way you pick out your gifts or goods. They are really nice and I feel at home when I am working on some time piece about food the salt always works and my favorite is, The Magic Pizza Dust. I have made some seriously awesome casseroles, Chicken Biscuit Bake, Lasagna, Cheese Ravioli and Lobster Toasted Casserole, Tuna Casseroles and Tuna with Shell and Crabmeat, also my favorite Beef Casserole. Also my favorite is Homemade Pizza Pepperoni Supreme. A new location just in time for the holidays. Great site right next to Powell's for all your gift giving needs. I usually go to Mississippi but happen to be in this area. They have a few different items than the Mississippi store like pasta and sauces. But the main point is they are always so helpful when you know what taste you or a loved one likes for chocolate or food you need salt to work with. Just ask and they give non pressured advice. Nice little shop and the lady working was very friendly & knowledgeable, happy to answer any questions. They have a variety of artisanal salts, chocolates, mustards, olives, bitters, etc., in a range of prices. Some items were a bit pricey for me, but they have enough variety you are bound to find something tempting at the right point for you. I took home a handful of individually wrapped fancy chocolates ($1 - $2 each) and a jar of specialty mustard ($14; we love mustard & look forward to trying this one on leftover turkey sandwiches after Thanksgiving). read more

Schmoopie and I arrived one afternoon after all the Himalayan salt had been bought. I left empty handed. I noticed that there was a strange smell. I didn't like that the whole sidewalk out front was full of piles from random canines. I haven't been back. I have never posted to Yelp but I was moved to do so today after visiting The Meadow on Hawthorne for the first time. I wanted to purchase 10 little bon-bon type candies for a total of $30 as a gift. I was told that they were out of 10 piece boxes. I asked if they would sell them to me in a 20 piece box and they or I could take up the extra space with tissue paper. I was told this could not be done and that my only option was for them to be put in a paper bag where they would nest upon each other. No offer of two 5 piece boxes. This place is really cool. Carefully curated to have a lovely selection of salt, salt-based items, chocolate, and some other neat things. We picked up some chocolates and plan to return to buy more said chocolates and, well, salt or something other made of salt. I'm a salt fan (clearly just an amateur), so I'm excited to get some interesting salt. The person at the counter (maybe the owner) was very welcoming and friendly. read more
