    Flowers and salt blocks

What a warm, magical little store! Walking in feels like entering the cottage home of a French kitchen witch. They've got a table full of freshly grown flowers, shelves upon shelves of ingredients and pantry staples. And, perhaps most importantly, an entire wall of locally made or direct retail chocolate bars. Staff was kind and when the price rang up for less than what was listed on the tag, they gave the lower option. The goods aren't cheap, but you can tell that thought was put into their curation and sourcing.

I went by the meadow today on my visit to Portland. This shop is pure magic, specialty chocolate, salts, flowers, bitters and liquors. This place is so dreamy. The woman working was incredibly knowledgeable and helped me pick out a few chocolates to try out. There was no questions she couldn't answer and her passion really shown through! I could have spent hours talking to her about chocolate! They usually have some popcorn for sampling with their different salts by the register which show how much these flavored salts make a flavor impact. If you can resist buying these after trying them you have more will power than me! Long story short, this place is a must stop

I don't partake in the "smoking" of anything but their glass pipe selection is beautiful as well. Update: my new fave from these guys is their green maeng da. And so far their prices are the same if not better than my online vendors...their quality is the same too. (I think it was $175 for 1 kilo but not entirely sure....) Also, this is the ONLY place I can find locally that sells empty (gel) capsules as cheap as they do! Bag of 1000 only costs $18....and they don't have that "funny" taste like some do. ***and don't forget to support/educate everyone on how kratom is a terrific alternative medicine and should NOT be made a schedule 1 like the DEA wants to do.

They even have incense like frankincense and murr. Also one more very important thing, the quality of the herbs they have is unbeatable, Amazon herbs can't compare. Lavender for example, I looked everywhere for a good quality lavender, I only found one supplier on eBay, but come to find out herbstomp has an even better lavender. The lemon balm they have smells like actual lemons. They have every herb I need to help me with sleep. Don't let the bad reviews discourage you from coming here! Kratom is not my thing, but they also have that as well, kanna, wild dagga, and other things I've never even heard of

I asked her about what I was looking for and she immediately brought me to it (they had two to choose from). She explained the differences to me then left me to decide and explore. I appreciated that she was so helpful but also not pushy or hovering after she answered my question. I explored the rest of the store and even grabbed another tea to try. The store has a lot of teas and spices in various sizes. It was well organized and stocked. They all had various tea and spice related items. When I checked out she told me that if I bring the container back they will refill with any tea and take $3 off the purchase which I thought was great! She was bright and friendly and offered to help me create a new mix when I mentioned looking for a dupe of a discontinued brand. I definitely recommend if you're a tea lover.

Unlike, say, a shop that sells fragrances, where your senses are assaulted when you walk in, Penzey's keeps their samples in airtight glass containers, so you can browse with your eyes, and then open individual jars to see how they smell. Products are well labeled, and wandering around is always a pleasure. I also bought spices for friends who cook since I love eating out. I didn't earn Yelp Elite status for cooking. Please support them however you can. We need business like this to thrive. While the…read moreshop focuses on salt, chocolate, bitters and flowers, there are so many varieties of each, that you can wander and marvel, making decisions a bit challenging! The wall of chocolate contains bars from all over the world, and a section with local chocolates. Half the wall contains plain chocolate ranging from milk to the darkest dark. The other side does the same, but with mix ins. And not just the typical almonds or sea salt, be adventurous and try the dark with dried berries or the honey lavender. The bars are pricey, about $11 for 2 oz, but worth it for a decadent treat that you savor slowly, say with a glass of red. Lots of bitters to make craft cocktails and spritzers. Also some syrups - I love the cardamom. And so many salts!!! I've ought a jar of fine finishing flakes that really take a simple dish or baked good to the next level! The truffle salt, while displayed as a topping for popcorn, is even better sprinkled on triple cream Brie. As you enter, there is a table filled with dozens of vases, each containing various stems of flowers for purchase. Love that you can mix and match to make your own bouquet. Small footprint, but mighty. Will be back before the holidays to buy hostess gifts and stocking stuffers.
