Second visit - more time to explore and continually found new and interesting reasons to enjoy Essex County's seventh-largest park (I totally stole that tidbit from Wikipedia). Third visit - okay, okay - I'm officially smitten! A (small-ish) pond complete with locals fishing? Tennis and pickleball courts? Horseshoe pits? Bocce court? Paved trails (both in the main/open portion of the park as well as tucked-away under dense forest)? Baseball field (as a bonus - a group of kids always practicing cricket off to the side)? A tiny little spot consisting of parallel bars and (uneven) pull-up bars - for aspiring gymnasts or American Ninja contestants? An aqueduct (complete with a handful of little bridges to cross over) running throughout the entire park? A damn fine playground (with interesting and in-good-shape equipment) for kids (from 2 to 12 years old)? Plenty of tables (old-school picnic style as well as more modern/sleek)? Those clunky-but-sturdy BBQ grills that are drilled into the ground for you to use but can't take home with you? Rock cairns to find and admire while walking through along the tree-covered trail? A few strategically-placed water fountains to rehydrate and cool down? Plenty of Porta-Potties and trash receptacles (including freebie baggies so you can scoop up your pet's droppings)? A random deer (or doe) sighting in or near the park every single time I've visited? Yes! A resounding "yes!" to all of it.

Parking on the street and a small lot with a few handicapped spaces. Bicycling not allowed due the size of the park and amount of people. Playing field up and behind the park area. This is a wonderful place to bring the whole family. They have about 12 different trails, all…read moreseparated in different levels of difficulty. The trails are free to enter but they do request for volunteer donation for non members. Different tiers of annul membership available to purchase at main office that comes with some wonderful perks, such as free access to trails and special events. The main office also has some of the exhibition items like insect box and turtle box. Outside the office there's also bird and butterfly cages. We went to the center for our daughter to participate in butterfly feeding event. Upon arrival we found out we had to buy the tickets for one of the two scheduled events. Luckily there were slots available to the second event on the day. The ticket was reasonably cheap, only $8. It also came with an additional bird's exhibition that took place right in front of office deck. All the stuff members were very friendly, informative and interactive. We spent wonderful couple of hours here on beautiful warm summer day.

The event ran from 11 am-3pm and I arrived around 12. At that time the parking lot was full and I had to park in the supplimental lot across the street. Even the overflow lot required waiting for a parking space. No complaints about having to wait, it was just nice to see so many people concerned about environmental issues. I thought that this was a particularly well run event structured for all ages. Rutger's Master Gardeners had a tent set up and I had a chance to visit with some friends. A booth was set up by the Essex County Bee Keepers, as well. for younger adults, Turtle Back Zoo brought animals to show case, Mad Scientists performed demonstrations and ocean and rock fossils were on display. Face-painting, food trucks, live music, a eco-market, hands-on educational games for kids were some of the other activities. There are nature trails, canoe launches, a rock climbing tower and a Lenni Lenape village set-up to explore. The event was free to the public.

Have to thank Dave for a great time on the hiking and brewery trip! The outing was very well…read moreorganized, with Dave being the driver, tour guide, and lunch maker all in one. He is very knowledgeable about the area where we went (Delaware water gap) and knew the hiking trail well too. I like how the size of the group wasn't too big so it was easier to get to know more people. Everyone was really excited to get some nice fresh air and exercise and of course visit a brewery! The hike was a moderate trail with some bigger hills up and down and a lot of rocks to watch your footing on. After the hike we were all hungry and ready for some beer. We stopped at Jersey Girl brewing where we all had flights and got a little tour of the place where all the action happens! The only criticism I have is with the lunch. It was very simple: chips, pickles, and homemade sandwiches with meat and cheese. There were a few vegetarian options but it was very heavy on the bread overall. I would love to see some kind of healthier alternative like a quinoa or lentil dish, which I would be happy to help with!

Dave was very easy to find since he sent us an email letting us know exactly where he'll be. From there, he drove the whole group in a van with awesome coffee for everyone. Once we arrived, we all got sandwiches Dave packed for us all and was off to seriously such a great hike. Dave made sure nobody from the group was left behind. Once the whole hike was done, we drove over to the brewery and Dave got pizza for everyone. Such a great time and arrived back at the time we expected Definitely would recommend and can't wait to go on another adventure!!
