Katherine was added late in the planning of a celebration of life ceremony for my mom. Her contributions ended up being invaluable and we are so glad she was a part of it. My mom's wishes were to have her ashes spread. She was the planner in the family, and without her, the responsibility fell upon me. She was not a religious person and so the nature of the "event" was a real question in my mind. I was concerned all the invitees would show up and not know what to do or say. That's where Katherine came into the picture. She knew how to add a structure where there was none. She knew how to create and event of significance. She understood. Quickly, the event began to take a shape. The pre planning was efficient and Katherine always made herself available to us. Communication was very good. Lastly, translating the planning to the actual event went flawlessly. There were so many things that could go wrong. What if it rains? What if there's no wind?.. etc... Katherine took away my worries and made them her responsibility. She would adapt. This allowed me to "be" there for my mom's ceremony rather than be the planner. Rev. Katherine Revoir was the perfect person to do a celebration of life service for my mother who passed away. Rev. Katherine had the talent to incorporate prayers from my mother's Episcopalian religious beliefs and more importantly play up my mother's strong beliefs in Mother Nature. She was able to bring it all together in a way that honored my mother really well and comfort a wide audience of about 130. Her words were ones everyone could relate to. She was also great at keeping up the pace of the service and completing all of our elements on time without feeling rushed. We had a tight timeframe at the chapel, so we were worried about going over our rental time, but it all worked out beautifully. Rev. Katherine also had some great ideas that we tied into the service such as a guided meditation and tying notecards of unsaid words meant for my mother on a small tree we brought to the service. It was a physical way of bringing closure to a community that suffered such a sudden loss. It was so cathartic to have the whole immediate family meet with Rev. Katherine before the service and she really took the time to speak to my grandmother and help her cope with the sudden loss of her daughter. I must say this first and foremost, whether you are planning a celebration of life ceremony, a memorial service, a funeral, or whatever term you choose to use, with it, undoubtedly comes a great deal of sadness. It is inevitable and it is real. Between finding a funeral home, sending out the obituary, meeting with caterers, and organizing an invite, to name just a few of the obligations, one struggles to find the time to just sit and mourn. It all just happens so fast. I vividly remember the day I met Katherine. It was roughly a week prior to the service. She graciously brought us into her home and over some hot tea, she set our minds at ease. She patiently explained the timeline and how these days normally flow. She was super informative, all the while extremely open to our suggestions. She truly was our guiding light in an otherwise dimly lit circumstance. I really don't know how we would've accomplished such elegance, such beauty, and such grace without her. She honored our family and our culture to the utmost and she was perfectly flexible when it came to certain portions of the ceremony being non denominational. My father and I could tell right from the get go, that this was a passion of hers. It never felt like a business deal. She spent time listening to stories and looking through pictures of my grandmother. She sincerely cared about every aspect of the service and moreover the feelings of each family member in the week leading up to the service.
