Authorized by Congress as a result of being voted by the residents of San Francisco to stop the opening of new cemeteries within their city... the GG National Cemetery was constructed. When I used to live in the Bay Area and my home church was in San Bruno we used to pass by the cemetery on Sundays. Last Monday we stopped on Memorial Day and drove inside. This was my first time inside the cemetery. It is huge! Respect and honor to all heroes. Large flags were displayed for Memorial Day. They were raised around the base of the hill in the center of the cemetery. Hundreds of Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and others planted flags in front of cemetery graves. It was a beautiful sight to see the sea of flags honoring our fallen heroes. Somber reminder of how many gave so much for our freedoms. Notable famous grave is that of FADM Chester Nimitz (Battle of Midway). Also buried here, a sad part of San Francisco history, was the assassin of San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Councilman Harvey Milk, Dan White. He was a sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division in the Vietnam War. Review #2596

When my mother passed, I was facing one of the hardest weeks of my life, made even more complicated by the fact that my wife is due to give birth in less than two weeks and we live across the country. I needed help, and I needed it fast to get back to my wife. Reuben and the team at Colma Cremation & Funeral Services did not just meet the moment. They rose above it. Reuben is one of the kindest human beings I have ever had the privilege to work with. Not "funeral industry kind." Genuinely, deeply kind. On extremely limited notice, they expedited everything: they arranged a viewing before the cremation, completed the cremation itself, and got the death certificate and my mother's ashes into my hands faster than I ever thought possible. Every single step was handled with care, compassion, and total professionalism. What truly set them apart was the responsiveness. Any question I had, I could simply text Reuben and get a prompt, thoughtful reply. During a time when so much feels out of your control, that kind of steady, reliable communication meant the world. I lack the words to fully express my gratitude. If you are searching for people who will treat your loved one, and you, with genuine kindness and respect, look no further. I recommend Colma Cremation & Funeral Services from the absolute bottom of my heart. Thank you, Reuben. Thank you to your entire team.

The owner Reuben was very helpful and kind. We spoke on the phone and we asked questions and Reuben made it very easy for us to understand. Pricing was reasonably priced and they were very professional and kind during a very difficult time. Service, follow up was outstanding! They work from the heart. Thank you for your service.

You would think after 15+ years of coming, I would know where my great grandmothers headstone is. Nope! They need to add location lettering or sections to make it easier. And parking is no joke. People double park and still park hella out where they make it hard for bigger SUV's and trucks to get through. There's no line indicator for car spots so cars park bumper to bumper or take up 2 spots. And some families don't leave for a whole 2 hours, they literally set up like it's a picnic at the park with umbrellas and tables. Sigh .. Considering it's a Chinese Cemetery, you would think they know our traditional by now. We like to BURN money! But it's always so hard to find a burning dumpster. And when another family is using one or almost done, we don't want to rush them because we want the money and prayer paper to burn throughly so it reaches are families. I have seen families bring their own burning tins. These past 2 years. They have removed a lot of trees and flatten out the ground for more plot. My grandpa's plot is on the upper right side (newer plot) and it's quite hard to walk there. There's a small incline ground walkway from the middle plot, it would be a good idea to add a small stairway, so it's easier for my Grandmom and other grandparents who have a difficult time walking and less dangerous. Even tho, all these 'negative' things I've mentioned, I still give it 5 stars because this is where my family is buried. Where the rest of my alive family comes together and visit and share memories.

I remember watching his segment on KPIX-TV when we lived in the South Bay (San Jose). He was the produce expert. He liked to give his viewers advice what fruits and vegetables were bargains and which to avoid. * Joe Carcione - Bay Area TV Personality. We wanted to see one particular famous baseball player but I was surprised to see a list of former MLB players who are also laid to rest here: * George Kelly - first baseman who played most of his MLB career for the New York Giants. * Babe Pinelli - third baseman and umpire in the MLB was mostly with the Cincinnati Reds from 1922 to 1927. * Hank Sauer - left fielder in MLB playing mostly for the Cincinnati Reds from 1941 through 1959. He also had a short career with the SF Giants The one being the most well known, of course, is: * Joe DiMaggio - American baseball center fielder who played his entire 13-year career in MLB for the New York Yankees. Joe was born in Martinez CA. Now I don't know much about his baseball career but I do know about his short-lived marriage to Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe. There were a lot of politicians buried here too including: * George Moscone - 37th mayor of San Francisco CA from January 1976 until his assassination in November 1978. He was a former Board of Supervisors member, served in the California State Senate from 1967 until becoming Mayor. He served as Majority Leader in the Senate. These are the most well-known people we came to see whose final resting place is at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma CA. Review #3743

Being part of a large, multi-generational family, I have unfortunately found myself attending services there at least once a year for much of my life. As an adult, I've had the responsibility of taking a more hands-on role in funeral planning, and I'd like to share three experiences. The first was for my uncle--while not related by blood, he was absolutely family. There was significant family drama leading up to the service, including a grandchild sending threatening messages. When the staff became aware of the situation, they handled it with professionalism and care, arranging for support to be on standby if needed. Thankfully, it wasn't necessary, but Paul was fully prepared to take care of it. The second experience was a little over a year ago, when I was making arrangements for my own mother. Paul, the owner, sat with me through the process. He and his staff were incredibly professional and compassionate. Paul made sure I understood all my options and gently reminded me to take my time--he made it clear he was there for me, without rushing me at all. The third experience was about two months ago, when I was there in my professional capacity as a minister. I was asked to support a husband making arrangements for his wife. I watched as a man, in deep grief, struggled to process what was being said. For the first time, I wasn't the family member making decisions--I was observing. The staff at Chapel of the Highlands handled everything with patience, professionalism, and genuine care. Walking through these difficult moments is never easy, but it brings comfort knowing that Paul leads a team that is caring, hardworking, and professional. While I wish I never had to return under such circumstances, I know I will continue to trust and recommend their services to anyone going through such a difficult time.
