You don't typically think about funeral homes until you suddenly need one. My mom of 91 years old had entered hospice and we knew the end was coming. So I didn't have very much time to do any research, but in speaking to the hospice people and a few others, the name of Adobe Creek kept coming up. I was a bit under the gun because my daughter needed to return to college and we wanted to make sure that she was here for the service. The cremation, which my mother requested, took about a week. Everything went smoothly and I had about as good as an experience as you could imagine. Other than the cremation, getting the death certificate and selecting an urn I didn't use all of their services, but my experience was top-notch. 'I filled out all,the information they asked and they didn't put her alternate maiden name in also JEFF likes to hold on to your money as he likes to change the agreement whenever he chooses . From the moment we met him he went above and beyond to make my Dad's funeral everything he wanted! Heading into the unknown, facing the loss of my mother in law straight on laid very heavy in my heart. Sherri Anderson was the most inspirational woman in my life. We met with Jeff who is a very kind, loving and compassionate person. He sat down with us early Monday morning and brought us coffee. Jeff explained every thing in black and white with a compassionate touch. He made it very simple and easy to understand for us whike we were still trying to process the loss of Sherri. A nice thing about Adobe is they have their own crematorium in Sebastopol. We have been invited to see a candle lighting in December where we can light a candle for our loved ones lost. I have never had to deal with a funeral before my dad died in July in Sonoma County, CA. I live in Ohio. I felt like there was a lot to do, including a funeral Mass. Jeff Lyons at Adobe Creek Funeral Home was professional, caring, and always available and open to questions. He handled every detail beautifully. I especially appreciated that he had my dad's prayer cards laminated. It was a small thing but it meant a lot to me. Dad fought in WWII and there is a wait time of 90-120 days to have a military internment at Arlington National Cemetery. No problem. Jeff is keeping Dad until ANC has an open date and then Jeff will have Dad sent to Washington, DC. There are a lot of moving parts to this funeral and internment but I know that the details have been and will be well handled. I highly recommend Adobe Creek Funeral Home. read more

After researching and interviewing half a dozen funeral homes in Marin and North Bay, I chose Adobe Creek because they said they could do everything I needed, on my timetable and for a reasonable cost. And they did. But Jeff and his entire team went above and beyond; way, way above and way, way beyond. I'll of course skip the details, but there were many frequent "emergencies" that arose (having nothing to do with me nor Adobe Creek) over the course of the several weeks we worked together. My father recently passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. I was recommended Adobe Creek by my uncle, and in the heavy confusion and emotions of the event, I did not bother to shop around. I called Adobe Creek directly and got the process going. I'm glad that I did. I was assisted by both Matt and Jeff. They did all of the paperwork and phone calls needed, and assured me that they would take care of most of the arrangements (contacting cemetery, coroner, etc.). These two gentlemen were more than helpful, and made the process of selecting a casket, etc., very easy. They did not push any additional items my way and were reasonably priced. Matt and Jeff treated my father's death with respect and dignity, and did everything they could to smooth out the process. Sadly, my Mom passed away, this last July. She was very forward-thinking and had bought a funeral policy in 1999. I was so happy to find out Adobe Creek Funeral Home was still in business. When I called, I first dealt with Kerry and then Jenn; both were very pleasant and efficient. I had the pleasure of having Debbie F. assigned to Mom's case. Debbie was very courteous, professional, friendly and thoughtful. She provided exceptional service to me. She was wonderful to deal with. Debbie patiently explained the process of getting my Mom cremated, all the legalities of the process and when and what to expect. I ordered 6 Death Certificates and I needed one right away. Debbie kindly created a Pdf version and E-mailed it to me so I would have it right away. She also sent an electronic version of the contract so I could virtually/electronically sign it. With my busy schedule, I really appreciated both of these features, thus, saving me time from having to go there. Our family decided to buy the Memorial Package, which included a very nice Registry book and pen, along with 100 Memorial cards and even some Thank You cards. I ordered extra Memorial cards, and she made sure I was satisfied with the printing of the memorial cards. But then I was told by a friend in the business we were in good hands with them, and that has turned out to be true. My father passed away 8 years ago. It's taken me this long to get around to addressing my experience with Adobe Creek Funeral Home, but I believe it says a lot that I managed to hold on to their business card until such a time came that I could sit down and do exactly that: The staff who came to my father's home, who was lucky enough to pass away in his own bed surrounded by loved ones, were kind, efficient, and patient. They understood instantly as they moved to exit our home with the gurney, whether by my body language or something I said, I cannot recall exactly, when I wanted them to pause so that I could put my hands on my father and say a final, silent goodbye before his body was taken away. I'll never forget their professionalism in that moment. Jeff, as well, handled the business at hand with gentle empathy and knew when to assist in our thought processes and when to sit back to let us mull over our options or just to gather ourselves again. For anyone thinking about using a well known competitor, there simply is no comparison. We met with both. Completely focused on customer service, family oriented, dignified in a class above the rest. Without a doubt, highly recommend. When someone you love and cherish passes away, there needs to be a feeling of connection through the whole process of saying goodbye. Their willingness to respond to our needs and our traditions was a great comfort to us. As an aside, it should be noted that when we met with the competitor, everything was "extra", even to transport our dad across town. All the fees were higher including the casket. The competitor also appeared irritated on the phone when we had to reschedule our meeting with them. We were waiting at home for the clergy to come and annoint our dad's body. They act like they are the only business in town. I am here to tell you otherwise. We have lived in Petaluma for almost 50 years. My father died three weeks ago. He was tight with a buck, and so my last nod to Dad is to not get taken by the funeral industry. As he was dying, the grief counselor at Novato Community Hospital gave me a sheet listing funeral homes, and representative prices. I had never heard of Adobe Creek, but I phoned them first, based on price. I'll be honest. I expected whomever answered to do something wrong. Anything. It's been a rough year, and I have a chip on my shoulder. The guy that answered handled me perfectly. No list of questions, no fake sentiment. I needed a business relationship, and got one. Later I dealt with Matt, and when I visited, I dealt with Jeff. Each of them provided exactly what I wanted. No nonsense, and no effort to up-sell me to something I didn't need. MY mother had a stroke and had to go into a nursing home and I was needing to find cremation services for her. I went in and spoke with a gentleman for about an hour and a half and pre paid for the services. This gentleman was very friendly and helpful and I have absolutely zero complaints about any of the initial visit other than the fact he did not warn me how I would be contacted after my mothers passing. He asked all kinds of questions about where she would be going after cremation. My mom wished to be spread outside and not kept on a shelf, so I opted for the free urn that comes with it and let them know her wishes. My mother passed at 5am on March 29 2018. I received a phone call from Melissa at Adobe Creek at 11:30am March 29th 2018. I did not answer as I did not recognize the number. I was stunned when I reviewed the voicemail and heard the message. "David this is Melissa with Adobe Creek Funeral Home, and we need you to come sign some papers for the cremation ASAP, if you have any questions give us a call" That was the message I received from the funeral home. I was too busy to call them back as my 9yr old son is also at Oakland Childrens Hospital in ICU with a liver infection. I received another call at 9am March 30th 2018 , this time from Matt. Matt stated in his voicemail that he needed me to get a hold of them ASAP for a meeting and some paperwork. I immediately dialed the number and Melissa answered. I told her why I was calling and let her know that I could come right now to sign paperwork but I did not have time to schedule an appointment and was a bit confused why I needed an appointment as i had pre paid up front and went over everything at that time. This seemed to make Melissa angry or at least forget to remain professional as she stated " We have other families that just lost their loved ones to help out today" When she said that I became a bit upset as you would expect and she said hold on and dropped the phone.. After about a minute Matt came to the phone and asked what the problem was, I explained to him that with everything going on right now I dont have the time to come down there for an appointment but would be able to come down right now to sign whatever papers I did not sign when I was there previously. He then attempted to tell me that Melissa never stated I needed an appointment and I could just come down and sign. This made me pretty upset as this was not true, as soon as I told Melissa I did not have time for an appointment, she became irritated. First trying to bully me into setting an appointment then just being rude with the comment about all the other families they have to help. Regardless i told Matt I would be right there.. I arrived 20 minutes later and was greeted by Melissa who made me feel about as unwelcome as you could and when I told her who I was she ushered me into an office and said have a seat. Matt came in about 5 minutes later with an overly aggressive handshake and asked me to have a seat. I declined the chair which immediately seemed to irritate him as he said Ill make this as quick as possible. Now mind you I have my 9 year old daughter with me as it is Spring break so I did not want to engage in an in depth conversation in front of my daughter about my mothers death as it was just 24hrs ago and we are still processing it as it came suddenly. Regardless Matt proceeded to explain about why they needed me to come in to sign the papers. I attempted to explain to him that the need for signing was not the issue, it was the manner in which it was requested as well as the unbelievable comment Melissa had made about the over abundance of business they have. This really seemed to upset Matt as he tossed the documents needing to be signed on his desk and said" You want to go SOME WHERE ELSE? GO! GO then, take your business somewhere else!!! Stunned I looked at him to see that he was very angry and mean mugging me. There is a look men give each other when they want to fight, I remember this look from my high school days and just could not believe I was experiencing this in a mortuary. Matt is a fairly big guy and I guess he likes to use intimidation to get his way. I actually started laughing at this time as I was just completely stunned to be receiving this treatment in front of my 9 year old daughter. I said " No Matt I just want to sign these papers for my mothers cremation and be on my way" He said " that where I am at with it as well... He then rudely put the papers in front of me and said sign here and then went back to his other paper work. I did not bring a pen and said "I am sorry I dont have a pen. He then said OH I have a few here. If he could of been any more disrespectful, rude or non compassionate about the entire situation I am not sure how, unless he would of done what it was real obvious he wanted to do which was punch me in the mouth in front of my 9 yr old daughter.. read more

It's been a few years, thankfully, but getting older it's unavoidable that you'll need a funeral home. I was back a Adobe Creek Funeral Home last week for a service for a friend and, aside from the sad occasion, it was as if we were visiting an old friend. Most of the staff has been there for many years, and the owners, Jeff and Matt have really done a remarkable job of bringing the funeral industry into the new century. It's a warm, light, modern and friendly place. They work very hard to make people feel welcome and comfortable. The building is clean and well taken care of, and they were there making sure the family had everything they needed. Again, I realize nobody wants to go to a funeral home, but if you have the need, you won't find anybody who will take better care. If you approach it knowing how difficult their job can be, working with people in various stages of grief, I can't imagine doing what these amazing people do day in and day out. Thank goodness there are still people out there who care about others (and in my experience won't take advantage)! Nobody can make everyone happy all the time, but in my opinion they sure do try harder than most businesses I visit. Thank you! read more

I'm embarrassed that it has taken me two months to write this. That being said, anyone who has lost a loved one, knows how devastating the whole process is. You may think you are somewhat prepared, but until it actually happens you have no idea how emotionally draining it is. In addition there are so many things you haven't thought about. Beyond do they want to be buried or cremated? Do they want prayer cards, a service, a urn or a coffin? One of the things to take away from this experience is to have these conversations with your family. Don't leave them to guess what is best. Okay, so enough back story, and onto Adobe Creek Funeral home. My father had been sick for years, but passed away at the hospital. The kind chaplain gave us our packet with information on funeral homes. He secretly recommended Adobe Creek, as extremely kind and as an added bonus of being reasonable to boot. (They aren't supposed to play favorites, hence him secretly recommending Adobe Creek.) He had told us of experiences he had witnessed when they went above and beyond. On top of that, their prices are extremely fair. And the lowest listed in an independent pricing survey of Marin/Petaluma counties. After the wonderful care my mother and I received, I am confident that they are all saints brought down to help us during this strenuous time. My mom called Matt from the hospital, and he was kind and gentle walking us through the process. It was New Year's Day, and he still took the time to help us and even gave us his cell number to call him back if we thought of anything else we may need. Within the hour, they sent their associate Nick to come and pick up my dad. We stayed in the room, and were a witness to how he handled our loved one with care. Then we drove up to the funeral home the next day and met with Matt in person. I cannot explain how emotional this is, but I can tell you that Matt made us feel as cared for as you could hope when making these tough decisions. He was calm, courteous, gentle and knowledgeable. There are so many things you don't even know you need to educate yourself on. How to order death certificates, where he will be buried, permits etc. Matt made all of that a breeze for us. He took care of everything. He ordered our death certificates, helped us order prayer cards, called the cemetery on our behalf and even offered to help us place an obituary. He also helped us crop our dad's photo for the prayer card. I cannot imagine a more full service funeral home. Matt walked us through everything. It was honestly like having a big brother their who was knowledgeable. He never pushed higher priced items on us, or tried to up sell us on services we didn't need. He allowed us to go to Sebastopol to say goodbye to our dad before he was cremated. The Sebastopol grounds are lovely and very peaceful. The staff there was kind and caring as well. We have been up to Adobe Creek three times now. Once to make the plans, second to pick up my dad and third to pick out his prayer cards. Matt was nice enough to stay late to make sure that the cards were just as we wanted them and to be ready on time. I was so in awe of everyone they have on staff. We dealt personally with Matt, Adrian and Nick. They really treat you like extended family. I don't wish anyone having to go through this process, but when you do go to Adobe Creek Funeral Home. I worked with all the funeral homes from 1999 to 2005 when I was a deputy coroner and always had a good experience when dealing with them, and the families they were serving. When my father died in Palo Alto in 2005, I could have called any of about 20 funeral homes between Santa Rosa and San Jose. I chose to called Adobe Creek because I really liked the owners and their staff. They drove to Palo Alto, did all the paperwork, and provided a very reasonably priced cremation. Two months later, my mom passed away, and I called Adobe Creek again. We are lucky in Sonoma County to have so many quality funeral homes, but my experience has been that Adobe Creek really stands out. read more
