Their service people are rushed, rude and arrogant. I used to think well of this place until I had repairs, warranty repairs. One part didn't fit into the warranty and they made me COME INTO THE STORE in order to pay for the part before they would order it. That came from China so took over a MONTH to get. Then they called me and, oh sorry, it might be your mother board, that is covered, but more time still. Meanwhile my daughter is borrowing a laptop for school. Had my computer brought in, it was apparently broken, so I bought a brand new one $3000, kept the PSU, and GPU Though. Nothing but blue screens and problems 8-9 months on and off, spending gas money driving there and back, hauling the computer in and out, and giving them service charge money for no apparent reason. All for me to find out ON MY OWN that it was the power supply... even though they "tested it" ... this company is ridiculous, I don't know If it's the idiots at this specific store at 58th, or just the general lack of good technicians because of diversity hiring, but my god their service is atrocious. Need a new PC, no gaming PC, just something to do office work on. Was told to checkout Memory Express, they have knowledgeable staff. The staff that work there will guide you to what you need and nothing more. I wanted more!!! I go in and see all these flashy towels with cool lights inside!! Well that what I want!! Come on really I'm not a gamer but I want that lighted tower!!!! When all was said and done! I did walk out with a gamers PC, I couldn't help myself it had flashy lights in a clear case tower!! Well that part of the story, what ended up happening is this. I saw the online sales for M.E. PC was reading all that it offered and was on sale! This PC was prebuilt to what I needed without having to put it together myself. Bonus!!! I talked to the sales person that was helping me what the difference was he said nothing just the flashy lights. Fantastic I said sold!! Yes he laughed at me! Can't wait to tell my adult kids I bought a gamers PC with lighted liquid cool tower. Not really just fans and yes to the lights. LOL Must say it's faster then my old one that I've had for 20 years. I went there recently to price out a laptop and get some computer parts that I needed. They didn't have the laptop that I was looking for, even tough their website showed that there was one in stock at that location. The sales guy was a little perplexed as to why they did not have it there, and recommended some other laptops to me that had similar specs to the one I wanted, as an alternative solution. I really wanted that specific laptop so the sales guy told me that they had one at one of their other locations so he called them to hold if for me for a few hours. I was going to buy the computer parts I was also planning on getting there, but thought that It would be better if I purchased everything at the same location, so I went to the other store that had the laptop. I get there 45 mins later, after I had waited in line for quite some time as it was super busy that day, which I understood. When I got to the counter they had already had the laptop there with my name on the box. I thought that was great of them to have it ready for me. I asked a few questions about it and the sales guy answered them a little rushed as there was a bit of a lineup and he was trying to get away for lunch. I had managed to find most of the parts before I lined up, but was still missing some items that I could not find so I asked the sales guy at the counter for them. He left to the back to get them and was gone for quite some time,he comes back with most of the parts and said there was a part he couldn't find but he was sure they had it as he had seen it earlier. He asks the coworker that was at the till beside him who was attending to another customer if the parts were in stock, and then goes to the back again to look for it as the computer said there were 5 of them in stock. Some more time passes by and he comes back with the part. I had another look at the laptop box before paying for everything and realized that it was the wrong laptop, with the wrong cpu. He looks at it and realizes his mistake, then tells me that it is a popular laptop and he is not sure if they have any more in stock and asked me if Id settle with that one. I said no I wanted that specific configuration and specs. I decided to look at the parts he got as well, and realized that 2 of them were wrong as well, so I showed him the right ones I wanted. He apologized and went to the back again to get the proper laptop and parts. I waited a bit longer as the lineup got even longer. Finally he returns with everything and we both verify that everything is what it should be. After what seemed to be forever in line I got everything I wanted. Usually they are pretty good at getting the right parts from the back, but this day they were off their game, perhaps maybe because he was hungry and thinking about lunch as I heard him mention to a coworker and the customer before me that he was trying to get away for lunch but had to deal with the lineup of customers first. Only complaint is that they update their inventory so that it shows the accurate count of items so that when customers go there they will have it and not be sent to another location across town. I recommend Memex to anyone looking for computers or parts, it is the go to place. read more

Absolute nightmare. These con men literally robbed me! I have barely owned this custom built PC for a month and it is giving me endless problems! Tonight I was just installing some sample libraries for audio production and the god damned thing blue screened on me out of nowhere! It took multiple tries for it to restart and I literally thought it was dead! I had to take it back the first week I bought it for this same reason to which they said they could not find any problems. I've been shopping here for a decade, and the service is now abysmal, all revolving around pressure selling IPR. I was recently in and made a $1600 monitor purchase with Ryan. I turned down the IPR offer after knowing that ASUS offered a great 3 year warranty on the product, but he kept pushing it saying he's seen a "ton of these come back for dead pixels". I told him I wasn't worried because of the warranty, and he then straight up lied to me saying ASUS requires 3-5 dead pixels within a 1 inch radius for it to be considered replaced for warranty. I ended up believing this guy, but now when I check the ASUS warranty for this monitor, there doesn't need to be a space between the dead pixels at all. Tried to get a replacement laptop keyboard ordered by phone. Called 5 times. Was promised a call-back the next day (or in a day or two after availability was checked) each and every time. Never happened. If you need a cheap cable, fine. If you need service, go elsewhere. EDIT: So, 3 days after posting this review, it happened. They called me back, with a two week lead time and a ridiculous price (more than double the going price on-line with shipping included, plus labour, which on an hourly rate would seem to be $300 - based on the 20 minute instructional guide online). I have made a couple purchases from Memory Express recently. On the plus side, these are computer people selling computers so they generally know their stuff. Prices also seem to be good and there is no pressure selling like some of the bigger box stores. Their websites is also pretty good in terms of product info and stock availability. But I have to say, their customer service needs some refinement! When you purchase a product, even the staff rave about their customer service. From the purchasing perspective I would tend to agree. But when you need to make an exchange or return, even within the 7 day grace period, you are met with a wall of negativity. I've had to return both of my recent purchases for various reasons, and both times I felt like I walked in to a series of reasons why it wasn't possible. Even when there were simple solutions to these problems, they made a big display of the problems we would encounter before they agreed that an exchange was warranted. So if you are lucky enough not to have to return a product from Memory Express, then I think this would be a great place to shop. But considering the bad experiences I've had both times I've had to take something back... I'm left with a bad taste in my mouth and a real desire to purchase online instead. -- L read more

I've been coming to Memory Express since they were a tiny little counter a few blocks away on 3rd street. The move to the McLeod Trail location in an old bank was a welcomed sight as they could add the much needed space. Now in this location it's even better to see the expanded showroom area and gigantic counter with tons of staff to help. Before I moved to Toronto, this was my go-to place for computer parts and accessories. I've built a few computers with parts purchased here, bought my last laptop here, and even still, when I'm back in the city I always have a reason to come here. About a week ago my power adapter on my laptop started acting up. As I was coming to Calgary for the holidays I figured I would wait until I got here since I bought the laptop at Memory Express a few years before. As a computer technician for a living, I have a huge need of the internet. And for computers. And comics. And movies. And many, many other things. Memory Express has been my go-to spot for the last decade. When they opened this location I was amazed at how much bigger, better and brighter it was. You can find nearly everything your little nerdy heart desires. Their prices are very decent and their techs actually know what they're doing. Perhaps I base that on the majority of "techs" at Futureshop etc not knowing what thermal grease is. Or an anti-static strap. MemEx employees (Oh yeah for cool shorthand style) know what they are talking about in the majority of cases. Don't always trust their recommendations, but trust that they know what a motherboard is. Their site is fantastic for people that know a bit about computers, as it has every spec you'd hope to see about parts to buy. Another added bonus is that many have ratings and reviews for these parts from customers. The problem is that sometimes you run into the random sales guy that has lived in his mother's basement for too long and has an arrogant attitude about it. I've had this as I had never tried any of a few similar parts and asked if he had or had gotten any feedback. I received a look that said "Are you retarded?" Getting that made me challenge him by testing his true knowledge, and after making him look like a.....wait for it....wait for it....legen......dary......n00b I went to the next available salesman, got his opinion (there were no reviews for any online) and walked out happy after telling the owner of the good and bad. I haven't seen him for many months. YAY! The owner is always working and is extremely friendly. I haven't had a problem with the staff since basement boy left and overall you won't find better prices. Though if you do...they match it. HELL YEAH! That includes online. Newegg.ca, Tiger.ca, Thisisarandomsitebyblakebecauseheisanerd.ca etc. Look MemEx up. After a couple weeks of a purchase, the part I bought there was a good $50 cheaper than I bought it for and they still refunded the difference. As long as they keep it up, I'll keep going. read more

I went into Memory Express with my boyfriend so he could get a quote on a computer he want to have built, and somehow I ended up buying an Asus Transformer. Tyler was helping us out. I like how he asked me what I was going to use it for and did a demo to show me how the computer handles. He was concious of budget as well, and didnt pressure me into feeling like I needed to make a purchase right away. Its amazing how much the guys/girls on the floor know. The service I received from this MemEx location is nothing short of incredible. I'd called a few places after my laptop stopped charging to see how long a repair would take, and most, including the NW MemEx and the NE location, quoted about 7-10 business days. That wasn't the best news but I kind of anticipated that having had a laptop repaired at the NW location before. So I brought my laptop to the SE MemEx as I was in the area and to my astonishment, they called me no more than three hours later saying my laptop was ready to go. I can't say enough good things about these folks: unbelievably fast, friendly, helpful... did I mention fast? I would have hugged and kissed them all today for having my laptop back to me so quickly but I'm sure I'd have been tossed out. It'd have been worth it! Thanks guys! read more

Very frustrating. We are a house of gamers and have had some terrible experience recently. My son bought a new memory board which was faulty. Went back and they diagnosed it as faulty. He bought a second one and had them install and check both it and the fan. Returned home and ran it while doing two temperature checks. The temperature was way too high and he returned to the store where he was charged $50.00 to assess the problem. He was told that is was a second faulty motherboard and had to leave the computer overnight. When he returned today to pick it up, a staff member told him that our son had left the sticker on the fan. When he told her that the staff had installed it she looked mortified. But no apology. After having purchased thousands of dollars worth of both parts and some complete units, we will not shop at this memory express ever again. read more

If your buying something from this store, they're great! But if what you bought doesn't work and you need to return it, good luck. Even though they're website states all new items include a one year warranty and you can only pay extra for warranties 2+ years long, they won't do ANYTHING to help you out. The guy at their service desk treated me like I was an inmate instead of a customer. After seeing that the guy wasn't going to do anything to help me and he looked like ticking time bomb, I left and sent it back to the manufacturer myself. You'd think someone working at a service desk would understand the concept of customer service and wanting to get customers to return (and not run away). Also, helping the customer is not only going to help the customer, it's going to make their job more easier and rewarding as well. If they think I was a some kind of criminal trying to scam them, then they could charge a restocking fee and I would have no problem paying it. I ended up waiting 2+ months for the manufacturer to get back to me. I try to buy my PC components online first and if I really really need to, I'll go to Memory Express. read more

ME was a few years ago an excellent place to learn about products, get good recommendations and make purchases based on your needs and budget. I went to the NE store after Christmas to purchase a computer system that was advertised. The store was not busy. I was informed by the sales associate they don't have them anymore (even though the website was accepting orders). I asked what was comparable and he without discussion, started to build a computer system on their website. Which was fine but when asking him for recommendations and pros/cons of a product, he would respond "up to you" which I found perturbing,My originally $900 system turned to $1450. I was okay with that as what he put together seemed decent. I put down a deposit and left the store. Through the process I felt very rushed. After having lunch, reviewed the system and decided I was not I was not comfortable with some of the components and wasn't well treated. I went back and cancelled the order. I still need to buy a computer system but am hesitant about going to ME. Also concerned about their warranties which I was willing to purchase but not sure they will honour them. So on the fence for now. In my opinion, a great store once upon a time is struggling.....not sure if it due to growth or staff have become complacent. read more

I'm very new to pc builds (I'm sure it was obvious to him) but have done quite a bit of research so I know the basics of what I need. After completing my pc build I now realize the employee failed to mention that I need to have a hard drive (stupid mistake for me not catching that on my end I guess?) and not just an SSD. I've been in the process of putting together a new desktop build and I've used ME for virtually everything in it. I can't speak for others but I've never had issues with sales pressure or staff 'talking down' to me, in the half-dozen or so times I've made purchases over the last month or so they've always respected me enough to assume I know what I'm doing and if anything usually engage in decent conversation when making purchases. Likewise, if I do have a question they've always been helpful. But please please please PLEEEEEEEASE whatever you do take advantage of their price beating guarantee! It always amazes me to see how often people complain about higher prices compared to NCIX or NEwegg when price-beating is permanently set on the scrolling title banner of their site. Just take the five minutes to look up what you want on pcpartpicker and show them the lowest price, I've never once had a problem with a price-beat not being honoured and I've only ever bought anything at ME at sticker price if it's legit been the cheapest source. You get your stuff in-person without shipping waits/fees or headaches trying to get defective gear returned, and on top of that it's always going to be cheaper - you just need to do a little bit of your own research. I dock off one star because the raw variety of stock isn't up there with online retailers. Generally this isn't a problem since as far as guts go they already carry virtually anything you're going to be considering for a build from this decade anyway, but there's noticeable gaps in their peripherals selections, especially if you're looking for a mechanical keyboard. If you're looking for anything with Cherry MX switches and doesn't have a tacky hardcore-gamer aesthetic you're pretty much out of luck. read more

Some serious potential in the staff here, very knowledgeable and most are easy to work with but something has changed in the last few years. An attitude that does not serve the customer well is becoming noticeable. The last couple of times I have been there for repair service the staff has been unwilling to help. It may be an isolated issue but feels like a corporate culture problem. Also be warned: when they say a part has warranty, it means if you wait 4 weeks without your system they will get you a refurbished replacement from the manufacturer. Essentially offering nothing. Warranty does not exist here. I will be looking for a new supplier. read more

I've been dealing with Memory Express for years. They have really good deals on some things but the best part is that their staff are knowledgeable. There's really no other place in the city that I'm aware of, where the staff know the products so well. I even encourage first time computer buyers to go there because they sell special warranties designed specifically for people who might mess up their computers or catch viruses due to lack of knowledge. All newbies should ask for that type of warranty. If you're a newbie, all you have to do is say I want a computer with a good case that's easy to open and has almost no plastic parts in it. I want one with a 2 TB hard drive, a floppy drive, 8 GB RAM, at least one DVD player, a low cost graphics card, and a reasonably priced monitor that's not too hard on the eyes. They will pick out the parts and get their techs to put one together just as if they were baking a cake from scratch. The staff is friendly, polite, and fair, and they take everyone in line in fair order. They are also the perfect place to shop at for nerds who like to buy each piece separately and like to tinker with parts. Sometimes even nerds flub up, though, so it's nice to know where to find a greater nerd who can help out. This is literally "T-H-E" ONLY Calgary NERD hangout place. As far as I'm concerned, there's no other outlet in Calgary as good as this place. These people not only know their stuff well (and if they get stumped another staff member will quickly help without making you wait long), but they also know how to run a business the way businesses used to be run in the olden days when stores actually "wanted" business. Just had Memory Express refuse to honour a price match, even though they sent me an e-mail confirming that the price match was honoured. Some flimsy excuse about the warranties not being the same, which turned out to be a flat out lie. Apparently the managers have been told to not honour price matches on hard drives above 500MB. read more

I was interested in a product that turned out to be out of stock. I asked about the demo and the assistant said it was no problem to have it cleaned up and sold to me by the morning. Took a look at the product and there were a few scratches but I said I didn't mind. He mentioned demo's could only get 5% off. Crappy deal but sure I was desperate. Almost all set to go and the manger was called over. This is where it got whacky. The manager sternly says "No this is not for sale", pushes past the employee and starts typing things into the computer. I asked what was wrong and was told again in almost an upset manner that "It's just not for sale". He spends another 30 seconds typing things into the computer then marches off. It was some weird stuff. In writing it might seem just a tad off but in person it was probably one of the most passive aggressive situations I have ever encountered in my life as a customer. I talked to some other people about it and they said they practically had to drag out information about the TV's. This store needs a good moping. Be more like Edmonton's south side location and you'll get my business back. read more

Put in a online store full pc order over 2 weeks ago with a 5800X CPU. I realize its on backorder so I figure I'll wait it out. Last night I check store inventory on the cpus. They have 7 in stock on the shelf including 2 at their southeast Calgary location which I believe they share with the online shipping warehouse. I try calling today to ask if they can put one of the shelf items into my shipment. The online store doesn't receive calls. I call the Calgary store. Nope, their phones are turned off too. I fill out an online contact form asking them to ship one out with my order. They reply and say "no, we don't ship out shelf items to online orders". I was going to also order a 3080 card once they became available. Oh well, cancelled the entire shipment and went with newegg. I know it's not their fault that supply is limited, but if they're perfectly fine charging me on day zero for the parts, they should be fine with walking up to the storefront, grabbing an unsold item off the shelf and shipping it out with my 2+ week old order. Live and learn, they literally just lost $3000 in revenue over that. read more

When I got home and ran into a snag, I called the support line and was met only with reasons that they could not help me. Despite that I had purchased the equipment from them "what I did with it, was up to me".
