I absolutely love going here! It has become a part of my Saturday morning routine. I look forward to try out new vendors and getting some of my favorite products and produce from the recurring ones. All of the fruit and veggies are really fresh and provides by individuals who really care about their crop. They don't mind having a conversation explaining to consumers about ingredients, recipes, etc. They have it set up for any and everyone to afford and obtain the best of healthy food. They accept SNAP benefits. All you have to do is take your card to the front and they will give you tokens to spend. They wrap up the last Saturday in October every year, so be sure to stop in. What's happened to the downtown Farmer's Market? Visited for 1st time this year on 7/6. Very few produce or food vendors. Was mostly arts & crafts people-soaps, jewelry, birdhouses, etc. Very disappointing. If I wanted that kind of stuff, I'd go to an arts & crafts fair. I could barely find any vegetables & fruits. Was it because of the holiday weekend.? I hope so. I live downtown & loved the farmer's market. Nonetheless, if they're going to allow arts & crafts vendors, they need to limit the number of them or group them together away from the produce & food vendors. I guess I'll just have to make the ride out the Agricenter for fresh produce. read more

We have such a blast talking to vendors and fellow Memphians & the sense of community is beautiful. The flower bouquets make me world's happiest gal and oh boy.... don't get me started on the homemade soaps I bought from one of the vendors... The Memphis Farmer's Market is only open on Saturdays. So as soon as the Squabaloo and I touched down in Memphis, we scurried on over in our rental car straight to the Farmer's Market. Some stands had already closed up shop, but we managed to get a good feel of the stands and try and buy some produce and treats. The market has a permanent roofing and is situated in a parking lot. It's Memphis' best farmer's market, but in order for me to rate it a 5, it would need to have some amazing food or be massive like that of Montreal's Jean Talon or Portland's PSU farmer's markets. read more

In my opinion, the BEST farmer's market in Memphis. They are located on Main & Patterson downtown and sell all morning on Saturdays. There's so much to do here that you can always find a reason to be here first thing on the weekend! I love that they have food trucks on one end in case you end up needing fuel for the morning shopping. So Fresh Juice truck is always there with amazing smoothies and juices. I also love that there is so much variety in the whole market. Not only do you have your fresh produce and meat, there are bakeries, coffee, doggy treats, potted plants, soap bars/candles/apothecary items, etc. Every week, there's a certain theme to the market (i.e. "We're just peachy," "Cream of the Crop," "Roll into Watermelon") that makes it super fun. They also have live music, coloring for the kids, and even Street Dog Foundation will be there on certain weekends. MFM is such a great place in Memphis for promoting local foods, eateries, and small businesses! This is the best place to be in Memphis on Saturday mornings so don't miss out! read more

It was a gorgeous 81 degrees in Memphis, and I was already in the Cooper-Young area, so I decided to just hop along to the other side of town to check it out. I came an hour before it was set to close, but all the vendors were still there. There were plenty of vegetable vendors, meats, lotions, candles, soaps, you name it! I really like the vibe, especially the live duo that performed. It was a blues-y feel, and was the perfect start to my afternoon. The downtown farmer's market is great. I do usually grab my produce out at the agricenter version, because of the wider selection and I live a couple of miles down the road, but the Downtown version is a great with an impressive selection of produce, meats, baked goods, plants, and food trucks. The vibe of the Downtown market is energetic and welcoming. There is usually live music and doggy sitters! Yes, your dogs are welcome and someone will watch them while you shop for a small fee. This isn't the largest market when compared to other large cities, but it is the pride of Downtown on Saturday mornings and for good reason! read more

What's good about it: - Shaded breezeway with vendor stalls, which will probably make it bearable in the summer - 4 or 5 solidly-good food trucks (Fuel, Rock-n-Dough, and a couple others) - Free dog-sitting at the corner of GE Patterson - Large selection of (purportedly) grass-fed meats - Limitless selection of preserves, chow-chow, and other canned goods - 3 or 4 decent bakery stalls (loaves of bread, croissants, macarons, etc.) - Cooper 20/20 and Pistache are there! What I hope will improve over time: - More organic and/or pesticide-free produce - More produce, period (maybe this comes as the weather warms up because seriously, isn't it spring by now?) Going to an open market like this always make me wish I lived closer to one myself. We visited this market while visiting a relative who lives within walking distance. She goes every Saturday morning for her produce and any other speciality items sold. Everyone there is so nice and friendly and the vendors bring their best! I just really love the local feel of markets and all the products sold. Most of these vendors have been frequenting the market for a long time while others are new to the place. It's not a big market, but I imagine if the place gets more vendors, the place will get larger. They also have food trucks there, which is pretty neat! read more

I love this farmer's market. There are tons of vendors and with a few food trucks. There is a weekly theme with live music. There is fresh produce, seafood, meat, and dairy. I like to buy the local coffee. There is also baked goods and more. I love visiting it. There is something for everyone. The Farmer's Market is located in the open air bus station next to the train station in downtown Memphis. The new and funky bus station is a great location for the new and funky Farmer's Market. Open only Saturday mornings, the market is open (in 2008) from April 19th with Strawberry Appreciation Day to October 25th, Pumpkin Patch Day. Each week has its own theme, but that won't stop you from enjoying all kinds of locally produced, seasonally available produce. Talking to the local growers is one of the best parts of visiting the MFM. Even tourists looking for a relaxing Saturday morning activity will enjoy walking around, talking to the farmers and artisans. The market offers a rotating selection of local musicians, farm produce, cooking demonstrations (as Janice enjoyed), farm cheeses, homemade jams and jellies, baked goods, children's events, local organic meat vendors (and oh sweet buddy Jesus, is their meat good), and flowers. Cash or checks only for most vendors. Dogs aren't allowed in the market; however, a local vet has set up a small wire enclosure for small-to-medium dogs to play in the grass while their owners shop. I finally got my ass up early enough before work to head on down to this market. Sucks for me, because it was so fabulous I will now be forced to wake up much earlier on Saturdays so I can frequent this little gem. Oh the produce! Where to even begin, and could I even end? This place puts Whole Foods Selection to shame. The tomatoes are to die for and the peaches and strawberries I partook in for lunch today were melt in your mouth, candy delicious. I also purchased some shrimp from the seafood vendor on Misty's suggestion. I will be making it for dinner tomorrow evening and I cannot wait. I also have to say that I love that the Humane Society is out front. They cart all the adoptable dogs out to the market and attempt to find homes for them. They pulled at my heart strings ever so badly. I tried to tell my husband that a third dog would really pair up well with our fruit and veggie selection, but to no avail. read more

I love coming here. I have just recently started a road to getting healthy and am very type A. It's nice to have a schedule on Saturdays where I can grab my healthy foods for the week and start my weekend off right. The Memphis Farmer's Market displayed an assortment of vegetables, meats, flowers, and crafts for everyone. There was live music near the food trucks and in the center of the market. And some vendors DID take debit/credit cards, (just ask). You don't necessarily have to park on the street, there is an entrance on Front street mid-way of the market with ample parking. However, take more than $20 (like it didn't) to have a good time. Loved the friendly atmosphere. I will return! read more

A great farmer's market in downtown Memphis. The key is to get there early to get the best selection. I like the seafood vendor, the shrimp is always good and you can find a great variety of seasonal fruits and veggies. It is a happy crowd and a nice way to spend a Saturday morning. It's an eclectic group and there is always some sort of music playing. I go in the spring and fall when it is not too hot and even take our dog. You can't take them into the actual market but a local vet has a "play area" set up for dogs. read more

The Memphis Farmer's Market is a usual stop for me on a Saturday Morning. Since I moved to downtown Memphis about 3-ish years ago, I thought "wow, this is perfect! Everything is so close to where I live! Bars, restaurants, grocery sto...wait, where are the grocery stores?" Yeah, there were none (this was pre-City Market and before I discovered Miss Cordelia's). Then I discovered the Memphis Farmer's Market. Obsessed! The vendors are always so nice and friendly. They have a wonderful selection of fresh produce, breads, etc. You can't get every single grocery you need, but you can most certainly fill up your fridge with a lot of the basic veggies. This year, it seems there are a few more vendors and food trucks. I was also happy to hear the recent announcement that the Farmer's Market was going to extend now into the winter! It's great to see that the local community utilizes the Farmer's Market as a central gathering place to buy food, get some breakfast at a food truck, or even meet for a morning group bike ride. The dog sitting area comes in handy if you want to bring your pooch to the area (dogs aren't allowed inside the market), but don't be too tempted to adopt another friend from one of the many local rescue organizations that sets up camp right next to the dog sitting tent! Word to the wise...go there as early as possible, because it gets packed around 9:30ish and the vendors will run out of some of the more popular items if you get there too late. read more

Every time I go to MFM, I just wish I lived closer to downtown. I love the mix of vendors and items: produce, plants, baked goods, flowers, pottery, coffees and teas... I also enjoy that there are food trucks, pet rescue/adoption groups, live music and various entertainment. I try to make it to the MFM at least 2 or 3 times during their open season. They have such a great variety of vendors. My favorites are: West Wind Farms- I'm in love with their Italian sausages. I don't even want to buy Italian sausages at the grocery store anymore. I PROMISE YOU CAN TASTE THE DIFFERENCE! The Apothecary Fairy-While she is known for her lotions, cremes, rubs, and balms, I have become the biggest fan of her insect repellant (2nd biggest fan-my mom is her #1 fan). Pistache French Pastry (yes, I'm still crying because she decided to close and move away). I need my macaroon fix! I don't usually try the food trucks. The lines are usually long and I only endure the great outdoors in short spurts of time. Today, was the perfect weather so I stood in the 15 minute line at the Indian food truck-boy, was it worth it. I purchased the omelette naan wrap with pesto and tzatziki sauce for $6. OMG! I'm definitely standing in that line again. read more

I like the open air feeling of this farmer's market. It's a lot of fun to grab a healthy snack or smoothie and walk through the farmer's market. It's fairly small and I wish there were more people there. We make a fun day of it because it's right by the main street trolley loop. We go and then hop on the trolley and ride the loop. read more

A beautiful day in Memphis made the experience all the better. This is a long running Farmers Market located in downtown Memphis at the old train station. It has a permanent awning, live music, a dog sitting area and a fantastic, dedicated group of volunteers that make the whole thing run smooth as a baby's bottom (at least it always appears that way). What's best about this Farmers Market? The VERY HIGH quality of the produce and proteins (beef, pork, chicken, eggs-not only chicken but quail and duck eggs too). I recognize and chat with vendors I've known for years that seem to be uping their quality each year. Seeing my friends from my 'hood' (South Main Historic District). What's not to like? Today's "haul" includes - A bouquet of flowers and 2 bunches of baby icicle radishes (which I'm going to pickle) from Whitten Farms. - A bunch of freshly picked (this AM) asparagus. This may just go in a sushi roll with the yellowtail. See below. - Freshly made hummus, pita chips and stuffed grape leaves. That's my afternoon snack/lunch. - One jar of really delicious, spicy-hot chow chow. Hummm, this just might be a wonderful combo with a hunk of brie. More snacking! - 2 bunches of baby yellow carrots (more pickling) and a head of what looks to be a cross between butter and red lettuces, some baby garlic and a bunch of scallions from Wilson Farms in Wilson AR. - A four pack of poppy seed bagels from Dave's Bagels-new vendor but knows his bagels. - A small piece of yellowtail snapper for tonight's sushi from paradise seafood of Mobile AL. - And a breakfast burrito from Fuel food truck (gotta maintain my figure ya know). Fuel buys fresh eggs, cheese and bacon from vendors at the market and makes a fresh salsa, wraps it all in a flour tortilla and serves it to you in the little food truck area (there are generally 3 trucks there). I also lusted over a huge wooden bowl made by local artist . Do I really "need" it? Hell no, I don't need it, but if I start dreaming of it - and I might, I'll try to buy it from Dennis. Don't expect bargains - high quality is seldom cheap. But do expect to meet people that are passionate about what they raise and sell. If it matters to you, please make it a point to go. This is just the 2nd week of the Downtown Memphis Farmer's Market. Every Saturday from April thru October at the corner of GE Patterson & Front. Open 7:00 AM - 1:00 Pm. Get there by 9:00 for the best selection. When I got there at 10:00, Dave's bagels was almost sold out (600 made). Other vendors were out of eggs. This is a wonderful thing to do on a Saturday morning in Memphis, rain or shine since it is all covered - unlike many other markets. Run, jump, go!! read more

i love this farmers market! there are a few in the city (cooper young farmers market, some others) but i frequent this one because its the closest one to my house. you'll find a ton of vendors selling all different sorts of things: handmade bird houses, vegetables, flowers, meat, seafood, dairy products, etc. Other hits: white peaches, fresh fruit from many different places, and food trucks. They have food trucks that are parked near the back for you to get food from! Some of my favs include: so fresh juice truck, central food truck sometimes comes, fuel food truck, etc. What I usually buy from the farmers market: POPSICLES: its usually the 2nd stand on the left hand side as you enter from the front. home made popsicles from this booth are da bomb. they have different flavors all the time, but the ones I really enjoy are: kitchen sink (combo of MANY things! a party in your mouth!), chocolate sea salt, cookies and cream. RUFFINS from this one doggie treat place. The ruffins they make for dogs are big hits here at home! every single dog that's tried them love them and always beg for more! CRANBERRY WALNUT BREAD: theres a stand that sells it. $6/round loaf. if you wait until near closing time, sometimes you can get 2 for $5 if they have any left! IF is the big key word here. They always have a dog sitting tent to watch your dog for you as you shop! Also usually they'll have a dog adoption tent next door to the dog sitting tent for you to look at the beautiful babies that need rescuing. come to MFM! read more

The facility for this market is nice. Huge fans keep the space cooler in the hot, hot heat. It runs from April to October, so you get a good range of produce. Some of our favorite things to pick up are the Ripley tomatoes, the best tomatoes to be had alone or on a sandwich. Also, you can get some great clover honey, baked goods, granola, tea, and there's usually a group there that put together the most amazing-looking flower bouquets for a reasonable price. I sat on a bench watching a bluegrass band entertain the passing crowd -- there's a definite air of happiness and community at the market. It's just a short walk, car, or trolley ride from the riverfront or Beale Street. read more

It's not what it used to be. We knew when they built the addition to the pavilion, things would go downhill. That's exactly what happened. At the Memphis Farmer's market, there are still several vendors we return for, but most of the booths are crafts or "value-added" items like sauces and breads and...junk. Many of the "farmers" are just re-sellers who buy their produce at a wholesaler and bring it to the market. A more carefully curated group of vendors would benefit everyone. read more
