Driving from Oklahoma City to Maryland sounds absolutely insane (because it kind of is), so when we found ourselves passing through Memphis around lunchtime, I turned to my trusted Yelp experts to help us find a local gem. Sunrise Memphis did not disappoint. We stopped in around 12:30 p.m. on a Wednesday and didn't experience any crowds or much of a lunch rush. That being said, after eating here, I completely understand why people mention waiting hours on weekends. The ordering process is simple: walk up to the counter, place your order, grab a number, and seat yourself. I appreciated that they offer both breakfast and lunch all day because it meant we didn't have to choose between the two. I ordered the chicken tenders with tater tots and an Arnold Palmer. Everything was fresh, hot, and exactly the kind of comfort food you crave in the middle of a long road trip. Kyler ordered the Kitchen Sink, which came with eggs, bacon, hash browns, grits, and a biscuit. He asked if he could swap the cheesy grits and biscuit for biscuits and gravy, and they ended up bringing him everything anyway! It was a massive meal, but absolutely delicious. Beyond the food, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I also loved the fun, eclectic atmosphere. The colorful Memphis touches throughout the restaurant gave it so much personality, and there was even a bar area that made me think this would be an absolute blast for brunch with friends. Sunrise Memphis ended up being one of our favorite surprises of the entire drive. If you're passing through town, do yourself a favor and stop here. read more

A step inside at the same time the counter guy hollered back to let the cooks know a graduation was about to begin so "expect to be busy soon" confirmed that fact! The house made biscuits are a must have! Or try one of their biscuit sandwiches. My husband had the Dirty South biscuit sandwich which came with a perfectly fried green tomato and pimento cheese. I had The Best Omelette, which was indeed one of the best omelettes I've had. The salsa verde added a flavorful kick. You could easily tell that everything was made fresh and in house because the flavors were so on point. They opened this place in 2017 and I think it has been packed ever since?? You stand in line, (which actually can go out the door and around the building), order at the register, take a number, and they bring you the food. Self served drinks too. All the food we had was great. Steak, bacon, hashed browns (small portions), buttermilk biscuit. The real sleeper on the menu is only $3.50, a very large cinnamon roll, but it seems like it is made with biscuit dough? I would love to come here and just get that with a large unsweetened iced tea. Basically everything is a winner, the food, the service, the facility... I wish they had more booths, but in the south it seems like they are less common? Extremely popular, so you may have to wait outside until the line dies down. For us, it wasn't a long wait and the door guy had the bubbliest personality ever.. Definitely a "morning guy".. Lol! They have a really cool menu with cooler names, I haven't had a bologna sandwich in at least 20yrs. Well dang it, give me the "P-Love", which is house smoked seasoned BBQ bologna, egg and cheese. Absolutely the best breakfast sandwich I've had in recent memory!!! We were a table of 6 and everyone enjoyed their meals. Their ordering system is pretty smooth and efficient. Sunrise was not at all what I and my friend expected for our first visit, i.e.,to be seated and served. The homey, country decor was very inviting. It was better than expected. We placed our order, was seated and helped ourselves to coffee, water, condiments, plastic and paper ware. The service was great and quick, if anything else was needed. Sunrise is counter service, and don't be surprised to see the line go out the door! Luckily, we came in before the rush and were able to get our food pretty quick. There is quite the variety of options here, from different kinds of plates and bowls. I went with what seemed to be the classic option: The Kitchen Sink - eggs, grits, hashbrowns, bacon, sausage and a biscuit. And just like it sounds, it was A LOT of food! I had my first Memphis breakfast here and they did a great job of representing. It's a spacious restaurant where you walk up to a counter, place your orders and then someone will bring your order out. There's also a self serve beverage bar. The first thing I noticed about the place is the fun and bright decor. It makes the place very inviting. The staff are also very friendly and welcoming. The menu is not very large, which I appreciate, but it seems to have something for everyone from avocado toast to breakfast tacos to omelettes. There are also plenty of sides to add on. I ordered a not so short stack with a side of bacon and eggs. Although it was a simple dish it was delicious. I'm very picky about pancakes and I have to say these were one of the best Ive had. Stopped in early on a Sunday morning for breakfast. Order at the counter and find a seat. The service was A1, everyone that we encountered seemed to enjoy being at work. The food was good! Our least favorite was the hash brown, kinda bland and a bit greasy. One pancake was enough to share, accompanied by a sammie of course. My sandwich of choice was the McBetter, sub turkey sausage. Loved our breakfast at this place. We wanted to take advantage of our last meal in Memphis with breakfast before heading out of down during our road trip. This place had very high ratings and quite the variety of menu items for breakfast: sweet, savory, mains, sides, boozy drinks, non-boozy drinks, I mean, it really has it all as far as breakfast is concerned. There were only 2 smallish available parking spots when we arrived and none when we left, which felt like a good sign. I didn't want to go too crazy (lol) so I went with something that felt very appropriate for the location: the dirty south with pimento cheese, fried green tomato, and pepper relish on a biscuit. I also ordered the cheese grits. GF ordered "the kitchen sink or something" with a biscuit, eggs, hash brown, grits, bacon. We also ordered a cinnamon roll to share. For our drank, we ordered the Irish coffee (iced) and a Red Bull to share. The biscuits were out of this world. Flaky, soft, warm, and delicious. The cheese grits were served in a massive bowl for a "side". They were steaming hot and incredible with the cheese. Required no additional seasoning agents whatsoever. I tried GF's hash brown and that was also incredible. They were warm and with a nice crispy edge crunch. The cinnamon roll was fantastic. Soft, gooey, just the right amount of sweetness. My biscuit sandwich was pretty good but the pimento cheese spreads made the biscuit a little soggy and fall apart. The fried green tomato wasn't crisp enough to provide any contrast in the texture. It was hard to eat and I didn't feel compelled to finish it. It wast he only less than stellar part of the meal. Overall, eating here was a very enjoyable experience. Just a lil feedback for the place: the person who took our order said they didn't have cold brew despite it being on the menu so maybe removed it if you don't have it or let the cashier know you have it. read more

I was in town visiting some friends and they suggested we go to sunrise Memphis as it was one of their local favorite spots! We arrived around 10am and just in time because after another 30minutes the line was out the door! So definitely a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. Despite the long line the staff were speedy and we got our food really quickly! What I loved about the set up was you could see the staff in the back making food through this window they set up along the line, this was really neat as you could see the staff making the items the restaurant was famous for! I also loved the fact that this business supports other local businesses by creating specials using other products from local businesses! It was great to see teamwork of locals supporting locals! This place is never really consistent. Service always ok but def a hit or miss on the food...I come cause it's close by. But today I decided to try the rooster. Terrible idea!!!! It's supposed to be a chicken biscuit with a Tabasco honey sauce and pickles. I could see the honey but I couldn't taste it. I couldn't see nor taste any Tabasco, just grease. All it tasted like was grease. Even smells like grease. The batter on the chicken was weird or either just not cooked all the way through. Almost like a tempura batter. Yuck! I honestly was better off going to chick fil a in terms of texture. The chicken was unnecessarily too big for the biscuit. If you're a texture person like me just get something else. My friend ordered an omelette with cheese grits and she loved her food as well. Whatever you do don't miss out on the biscuits, they're so so good! Came in to grab a table for 4 adults and 2 two year olds and was told my a staff member I couldn't sit at a table till I was given an order number. He understood when I explained I needed high chairs and a certain spot so there was space for them. I moved to a spot he told me to go to and less than 5 minutes later another staff member told be I couldn't sit without an order number and I explained again and he told me if someone needs that table he's going to move me and he didn't care if I needed that table for the high chairs. Food is good and I get they are busy but I tried to be out of the way and moved tables to one other staff recommended and still was harassed for just trying to find a spot safe and out of the way for young kids. read more
