I visit this store a lot with my children as a fun activity. Customers and staff are friendly. The store is well organized and clean. Customer service even answers the phone! We bought a gas powered cultivator.Brought it home,prepared it to work.Put gas in it .Worked for 20 minutes.it then quit. So Husband drained the gas ,cleaned it out and took it back to exchange it. Employees told him they couldn't take it back because it had had gas in it.a very small sticker is shown to him thats posted by the products.it Quit! Would not work .He was told to take it to Troy built and have it serviced..Terrible policy.corporate was no different.just letting you know,you cannot return defective products here.plus he was not informed of the return policy. Super frustrated with Menards right now! After witnessing how they treated my father after he has spent upwards of $10K with them over the last 10 months. He is currently in the home stretch of a complete kitchen remodel and has been working on installing new granite countertops. When he picked up the countertops they were all nicely stacked an strapped to a sturdy custom shipping pallet. At that time he also received a paper asking that he recycle the pallet. The paper states to "Return to any Menards location for a $50 merchandise credit check". And also "Simply present this flyer to the cashier at the service desk to start the return process". One would naturally think the process would be easy with the markings on the pallet and the statement on the paper given. Not so! 40 mile round trip, pallet in truck and return paper in hand and Menards refused to honor the paper and give my father the $50 merchandise credit. Even after speaking with the manager they refused to honor the return receipt. If this is how Menards plans on treating their loyal customers unfortunately it may be time to rethink giving them our business. At this point it's not even about the $50 but their treatment of their senior customers and the fact they think they can take advantage of them. read more

Menards is an odd store for home improvement, especially in Richmond. It's rather small for such a big store. Yes, that doesn't make sense, until you look at their store in Muncie and realize how much the Richmond store doesn't have. They have some good deals but you have to watch carefully what they're selling. e.g., they sell countertops for kitchens and bathrooms and were cheaper on my kitchen countertop than other places in town, but it still needed some assembly when it was retrieved at the store. They're quite inexpensive on compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs, especially the daylight types. I've had good luck with the Mastercraft exterior doors I bought there, despite my uncle's (a contractor) reservations about them. The only thing that really bothers me is the way that they treated the Veteran's discount. My mum (a veteran and spouse of a veteran) and I went to the service desk about the lack of a discount on something she bought that day, during the July 4th weekend. The person who talked to us was rather rude and said that Lowe's wouldn't give him a discount on sale or clearance items, so why would Menards do it? We had just come from Lowe's on got discounts on the sale and clearance items we bought there. When I wrote the company, they sent me what amounted to a form letter saying that they were, of course, concerned and they would look into the matter promptly. The staff at the store can be incredibly helpful, until you really need them and then, you have to search forever, it seems. One more thing: the mail-in rebates end up in credits that you can spend at the store. I don't recall any ever involving real cash. read more

They are awesome. They are requiring you to wear a mask when there. They have greeters at every door asking customers to put them on if they aren't already. Those greeters are also wiping down all the carts and baskets when they come back in. They are also not allowing anyone under 16 to come in. I went to look at some patio furniture and some bird feeders and such. While I was testing out some of the patio chairs I was looking at I was asked multiple times by passing associates if I needed any help or if I was doing okay. Some of the most attentive and customer service driven staff I've seen in a big store in a while. I didn't buy furniture this trip (the packaging will not fit in my car) but I will be back to purchase in a few days. I was also looking for some birthday gifts in the birding section. They have an abundance of different kinds of bird seed and a large variety of different feeders. I found a couple really cool ones. Check out was super fast, didn't have to wait in line walked right up. Love this place! We are here often for lighting, building materials, appliances, furniture and whatever else. They've got the nicest people and the best selection. Prices are pretty great, too. We just started a new project; vinyl siding and let me tell you, Matt P. in "building materials" was a huge help! Very nice, knowledgeable and helpful. Those three stars are for the cleanliness of the store and the great price I got on a schoolhouse pendant light that seems to cost twice as much everywhere else. Menards gets zero stars, however, for its customer service. Three employees leaned against a display and yakked for a good fifteen minutes while there were several customers milling around the lighting department, myself included, in obvious need of some assistance. Yes, I suppose I could have gone up and asked one of them for help, but customers don't have to pull me away from my personal conversations at my job to ask me to wait on them. Menards near where I live is both good and bad. The good is that they offer a wide selection of quality products. The bad is that so many of the sales people know absolutely nothing about the products. Even worse is when they give customers wrong information. Please Menards, please provide some training so that sales people know at least something about what they're selling. read more

By FAR the worst customer service EVER! The mask mandate in Indiana is now up. We walked in the store without one. As we walked a VERY RUDE person asked if we had a mask. We asked why we had to wear one when the mandate was over? She started "It's our rules and if you don't buy one we will call the police on you for trespassing!" She did not say this as we were standing near her she yelled it across the store! We did have some with us and had she been polite it might have been one thing. It is something completely different when you immediately yell at a customer and before they can do anything else THREATEN them with calling the police. Not only did she do all that, but as we walked out the door she made a motion with her hands as if shueing us out and was laughing to the other person that was working "customer service". This is a local and regional store so I have been trying to give them as much business as possible, keeping the money in Richmond Indiana. I placed 2 orders totally close to a $1000 dollars on July 28 and August 1. They included several special orders and pick-up orders. This store either has good concerned workers or pathetic workers. I have run into 2 of each in several trips to pick-up items. The first pickup took over 2 hours to do because I kept getting a run around between the person in the yard and the person supposedly helping me in pick up. Eventually the card person got the locations of items on my pickup figured put. I went in the store and found the 2 items I was told were not in the store. Today I went to pick up another special order and it was broken. I thought I could use it and dod not want an item to be thrown away so I was given a $4 discount and I took the item knowing that if I did not have enough of the broken piece I would have to pay for another item. I was trying to let it be a win win proposition. I had to go to the returns desk and that person did not kn ow how to do the process. As we waited for the supervisor, Chrissy or Christy, to arrive I said I would go buy my additional purchases and then swing by and resolve the issue. Aynslie was pleasant and sorry for my delay. When Chrissy arrived it appeared that I did not have the correct receipt. I indicated that the people in the back at pickup had been able to pull top the item and sale and that Idid have the order number. Chrissy never looked at the item or tried to listen to me. At some point it became clear that this person dod not want to solve the problem and I said you know the $4 is not worth my time. I mother would have said that her whole attitude was sassy. I went to the cashiers to check out and then I was told that I could not leave with the broken item that I had paid for. Jayla was pleasant and said she could look it up. At that time Chrissy walked to the front and I ask her that she be asked top come over. When she did I ask why it was that 2 people in the store could look up what she could not. What followed was all the worst customer service practices displayed by a supervisor. When told that I was not listening I told her I could repeat everything she had said did she have the same ability. When I asked to see the manager she told me that was not going to happen because I was not listening. She eventually got on the phone with her supervisor but no effort was made to clear things top for me before I made my last purchases from Menards. Upon my return amazingly I was also able to pull up the order with the information that Chrissy would not look at. I became very frustrated but continued to have myself heard and found a dead ear. What is dead is my business. I am not a big customer but the project I am working on was going to bring them additional hundreds of dollars in business. Gone. Unfortunately they still owe me 4 pieces of lumber that nobody seems to know when the store will replenish their inventory. And oh yes there is the part of the order that was being filled by a store in Wyoming and I was told I had picked up from the store. I ordered an item on Menards.com and it arrived with a missing part. I contacted customer service and someone from this location responded so the item must have come from there. They responded quickly and seemed to have attempted to locate the missing part to no avail. They offered a refund if I return the item. The cost of shipping it back would be almost 50% of what I paid for the item itself, and I had already paid that much shipping for it to be delivered to me. I explained that I couldn't get to the post office anyway because I am disabled and it's the reason I ordered online in the first place. Since it was their error and the shipping would not have been cost effective, I feel they should have just refunded the item. Between the missing part and their lack of customer service, I would not shop on their website again. read more

Can the employees there be any more sarcastic and less helpful? It seems anyone over 50 seems to resent being there and has a terrible attitude with customers. Just forced to deal with a older woman when I went back and explained that I had purchased a small tool there the night before but when we got home it was nowhere to be found. I had my receipt showing the purchase but she had predetermined that I was a 70 year old crack addict trying to get money for drugs $5 at a time. The receipt meant nothing to her nor did my explanation. She grabbed the paper and headed to a back room where supposedly there were security cameras. Came back later and just basically called me a liar. I asked to see the film showing me at the register but she just told me no, I wasn't allowed and I was a thief. She was hired I'm sure under the equal rights to be a bitch act but really really needs a lesson in customer relations or just in manners. Menards has good prices, but that is the only positive thing I can say. All employees are young and seem to have no knowledge of the store's products. And they have no conception of how to treat customers. They don't offer to help; the customer has to start the conversation. Invariably, they don't know the answer to my questions, but they don't offer to go find the answer either. Today was the last straw - the young woman whom I asked for help about how to choose a closet system replied, "I haven't the faintest idea," and turned away. I went to Lowe's instead, a further drive from my house, but worth it. At Lowe's the staff are experienced and friendly. I get good advice every time. read more

Sloppy service and bad customer support! Their salesman sold us a wall unit package of mismatched parts (combining 24 and 36" drawers) that could not stand alone upright in the closet. I had to come up with my own system of attaching it to the wall. They distribute Dakota drawers that have big pictures on the box of the drawers with handles and then in 1/32 inch type at the bottom of the box it says "Door Pulls Sold Separately". I wrote to Dakota (which won't talk to you in the phone) to complain about the deceptive packaging and they replied weeks later that the door pulls are sold separately. When I went back to Menards to complain the store manager said he thinks the packaging is fine, that that is all the company is required to do, it doesn't matter how small the small print is as long as it's written there somewhere. He knows I've already put the thing together and attached it to the wall and so I'm not going to bring it back for a refund on the wood, and they would not even reimburse for the delivery. The Menards headquarters is as bad as Dakota, they won't talk to you on the phone and then when you write to them they just shine it on the same way. I'll never go back to Menards again, Lowes and even WalMart just down the street are much easier to work with. read more

I agree, customer service is not the best. I was looking for one more box of Christmas lights last night. Could not find a sales associate anywhere, and finally went up to the front desk. Despite the fact that the girl at the desk said they had 28 and had just gotten 12 in that day, no one could seem to find them....not that they looked all that long. One young lady's explanation was that someone probably had them in their cart and just hadn't checked out yet. Yeah,,,,,,right. There were about 7 people in the whole store. Cleanliness is awesome. Variety not too bad for a small town. The lights were cheaper than Dollar General which surprised me. I also went to get a kitchen faucet which was on sale a week or so ago, and they were out of stock. They said it would be about 3 weeks before they got any more in. Why advertise sale items and not have enough to sell? Never have figured that one out about any store. read more
