It's been too long since I made the hour long drive to Menchey's in Hanover. It was always worth…read moreit for the incredible amount of sheet music, including such genres as classical, broadway, soundtracks, and many more. I would spend HOURS going through every row of sheet music books. I found many unique treasures that you would not come across at other stores. Sadly, I discovered that they moved (about 4 years ago, I was told) to a small shopping center next door. I was disappointed that their selection has dwindled to not much more than the ubiquitous Music and Arts stores. Most of their selection is unsurprising. "Easy" editions also take up much of the space, so in the event that you find something interesting, it may be too easy. Gone are the grand pianos. Gone is the room filled with orchestra and band music. Don't get me wrong, it's fine for what it is. It's an OK music store that can probably meet the needs of most young students. More seasoned players may not find much of interest. I suppose that interest in sheet music has been in decline and/or it's easier to carry a larger selection on line. The staff was pleasant. The store was neat.

In order for our child to learn an instrument, we invested in a bell/ drum kit - almost $600. It is still sitting here unused, which is typical for some kids to experiment before they find the right instrument. Menchey's offered to buy it back at their MAXIMUM price of - get ready- 75 bucks!!! Mint condition. They would have gone onto resell or rent this instrument for about $500 to someone else!!! We will sell it to someone else, thank you. Greedy, overpriced, and uncaring!!! Well established, entrenched in every school system- they may look good on the outside- but at this point, this "Family Owned" business seems dysfunctional. If we could rewind the clock, we'd never patronize this corporation.

Kerry was wonderful, she listened to our need and would have scheduled a next day pick-up had we been prepared. The two gentlemen that were sent by Kerry, were the most professional, kindest, knowledgeable and definitely experts at their profession. Communications were the best. We received status calls through-out with updated ETA's. What is also impressive was their concern for their client. The original scheduled pick-up time was impacted. They did not assume that we would hang around, they asked if it were ok to still pickup and deliver. The delivery involved navigating through grass to a lower level; and removing a older heavy piano. It must have been made not be moved. I strongly and highly recommend their services.

He explained to me the many potential pitfalls of buying an unknown piano -- all the things that might make it untunable and unusable -- but it turned out that he had a few pianos that he was storing for his clients that were for sale. I bought one of these at a reasonable price, and he moved it for me. He could not have been nicer and gave excellent service, and the piano was exactly what we wanted. Very happy and satisfied customer!!!

I have used Congressional Piano movers three times now. I hesitate to give a poor review to a small…read morebusiness, but if you choose to use this company, you should be aware that the scheduling/booking process is extremely poorly managed and unreliable. The movers themselves are excellent and competent, and have moved my upright piano in and out of some very tricky spaces (with stairs and sharp turns). So if you have a tough move, they will most likely be able to do it. However. Two out of the three times I have booked with them there has been a major mix-up with my booking. The first time, I called weeks in advance and booked a date. I asked for an email confirmation but never received one. I called a week out to confirm, and found that they had completely lost my reservation. They could not come on the day I booked, which caused a big issue with moving out of an apartment. I chose to use them again the next time I moved, because I know the movers do their jobs well. (I now feel that this was a mistake). This most recent time, after I had made it clear in my booking that it needed to be after noon because of my work schedule, I was essentially guilt-tripped into moving my time slot to very early in the morning, because they had managed their own schedule poorly. When I booked initially, it also took several emails and phone calls to get a confirmation email from them, which I had hoped would guarantee that they didn't try to change my time. Obviously that didn't work. I want to support these folks as a family-run business. But I will never book with them again after the stress and hassle it requires every single time. Update - And this is fun, even though my piano move was on December 11, they have only just now charged my card for the several hundred dollar charge, on December 21. When I paid, I had to read my credit card number over the phone to someone. So I guess my credit card number has been sitting, written down on a piece of paper in their office, for 10 days. And they only just now remembered to charge it, with no notice. Extremely unprofessional.
