a hand holding a bowl of ice cream

Who doesn't love a good fro yo?! While most fro yo places are the same to me (variety in options is always the biggest part) menchies has copious options of additions yet it's always hit or miss on what flavor fro yo they will have in store. Overall I always leave this place with a treat I thoroughly enjoy!

Always fresh flavors. And so many add on options. Super nice welcome and staff. Very clean store and restrooms. Vegan options available. I usually get pb with pb sauce and cups and hot fudge. My second fave is the mango or pineapple. Yum.

    No heath. Woe is me!

Super clean spot, and my husband is going to love the fact that there's no surcharge to add a waffle bowl (basically whatever it adds to the overall weight of your creation is all you pay, whereas many places upcharge considerably for waffle cones/cups.) The flavors seemed less sweet than a lot of their competitors, which was A-OK with me. The MIA 5th star is for the absence of Heath topping. That's the one thing I ALWAYS put on my ice cream/yogurt and was super surprised it wasn't offered there. Hopefully they'll add it to the lineup.

Not my usual cup of tea, but a group of our family went with a couple little ones on Father's Day and had a lovely experience. Clean, bright, and festive inside, and loads - I mean LOADS - of topping options for your sundae, more than I ever would have imagined! A great assortment of froyo flavors as well, including great swirled combo options. Given how much I piled on, it was a bargain!

Wait! You promised me Ben & Jerry's!

If you pointed a gun at my head and told me to pick one and only one ice cream to eat for the rest of my life on a desert island, I'd quickly identify Ben & Jerry's Coffee Heath Bar Crunch Ice Cream as my desert island choice. I could probably eat a pint of it for each remaining day for the rest of my life if my physician let me, whether I was happily watching the Lions lose yet another winnable game on a Sunday afternoon on a big screen TV or relaxing in my backyard, listening to the birdies chirping at each other on a spring evening. With a large ice tea. And this is my way of saying that this Menchie's had neither a coffee flavored frozen yogurt among the ten or so flavors of yogurt or whatever it had on site nor any Heath Bar pieces among its toppings. The Menchie's national website mentioned Coffee Royale, Cold Brew Coffee, Iced Coffee, & Vanilla Latte as flavors the chain carries, but none of these were available today. So I settled on Original Tart with Butterfinger pieces. My girl had a half-half of Dark Chocolate Mousse and Vanilla Snow with peanuts & Andes mint pieces. I put my cup on the scale first and it was about $4.50; my girl's was less than $3. The two workers, a young male and young female, were casually dressed, and wore no obvious piece of attire that differentiated them from the customers. They stood in their work station, a circular counter with scales and waffle cones and a register. Their greeting was not, "Hi. Welcome" but "Have you ever been here before?" There must be people still who haven't become acquainted with this style of "dish it up yourself" yogurt venue. The physical interior was brightly decorated and very brightly lit. On all walls was brand propaganda, e.g., how healthy the yogurt is, don't forget we do children's parties, we can make you a Menchie's custom frozen yogurt cake, etc. There were many labels telling us what things were. The seating area was cramped. There was a sign above the scales identifying the price charged per ounce weighed. It was about 60 cents/oz. By comparison, a 5.3 oz. container of Chobani Greek Yogurt costs about one dollar (less than 20 cents/oz.). The male worker used plastic gloves on both hands when he was working near the toppings, whether he was cleaning a counter of spilled toppings or refilling a toppings container. I watched the female worker with a single gloved hand slowly filling up a barely touched container of graham cracker crumbs. The male worker asked us if we had a "Smileage Club Card," which we didn't, but then didn't bother to explain what that was. "Menchie's proprietary flavors are made exclusively with our own custom recipes that you won't find anywhere else." Okay, I don't believe that. I tasted all three frozen yogurts and I have tasted these flavors elsewhere. Please convince me that Original Tart is significantly different than Peachwave's Euro Tart. And how does one call their chocolate or vanilla yogurt proprietary? A particular recipe of ingredients can be proprietary, but not a flavor. I find Menchie's deceptive: "We do our best to say NO to artificial colors, NO to artificial flavors, NO to high fructose corn syrup." If you examine the ingredient list for its Double Espresso Tiramisu yogurt, for example, on the Menchie's site, you will find all three. The key phrase is "We do our best." And that is not a guarantee that you will never find objectionable ingredients. More playing around with word meanings: "Milk and cream from cows not treated with the growth hormone rBST." But down the page, the Menchie's site adds, "No significant difference has been shown between milk from rBST-treated and non rBST-treated cows. The suppliers of our other ingredients cannot guarantee that the milk they use comes from non-rBST treated cows." The first part is to tell the consumer that rBST was not used. The second part is to inform the consumer that the first part is just a marketing ploy and that it doesn't really matter if rBST is used or not. The frozen yogurt and toppings were unexceptional, the physical environment of the Drake site was unpleasant (too bright, too crowded, no place to theoretically eat outside), and the national website is a pile of slick propaganda. So, yes, I think I'll look for my pints of Ben & Jerry's Coffee Heath Bar Crunch Ice Cream and be very content if I don't return to Menchie's.

During bronco bash I had received some pretty cool coupons to use here. Although the expiration wasn't for years out. No better time than the present to use a froyo coupon. The super wonderful staff member at the counter welcomed us happily. I mean, they gave us a small tour of all the place, and everything it has to offer! From the cups, to the frozen yogurt, and then the toppings! The many, many, many toppings! Small cups to sample the yogurt were out. So we got to work deciding which froyo to go with. With after testing them all. We actually got what the staff member recommended. The mix sounded too sweet, but im a daredevil, and I don't know why I was surprised when it totally worked in that combo. A strawberry smoothie and Dulce de leche twist. I fell in love with that. Then add all my crazy toppings and it's a treat you don't want to end! For me at least. Also this place is super clean too! Seriously! Great job!
