We were also allowed to partake from the same unsanitary fountain (which I believe doubles as a urinal); that is, when we were actually allowed the luxury of water. I tried to explain to the officer the benefits of hydration but he just looked at me as if I had blown a .16. However, not to be dissuaded, I found a sympathetic ear in my new friends, Champagne and Caviar. Not only were they complementary in name and nature, they both had formidable booties and stilettos to match. I was impressed! They taught me so many street savvy thing like how to tape down one's penis. Who knew jail could be so...educational? Being locked up has meant so many things to me. I will never bitch about my mattress again just because it's too "firm." You want to feel firm? Try sleeping on a bench for several hours. Now that's what you fucking call firm. Nor will I ever discriminate against tap water again, especially when it comes from my OWN faucet! I've come to realize that not everything in life has to be "just right." Everything is right when you've been handed back your freedom! WeHo jail - educational AND spiritually cathartic! Best of all, supported by the taxpayers! Now, here's some education for you should you find yourself in this unfortunate scenario: 1 - Always take a blood test so your attorney can test it independently. Cops will try to scare you into believing you'll spend more time in jail if you don't submit to a breathalyzer. Technically, you will spend more time in jail---blood tests take time, period. 2 - When getting pulled over, politely tell the officer that per advice from your attorney (even if you don't have one), you have the right to not incriminate yourself by answering whether or not you've been drinking. Yes, you will go to jail but the less said, the better. Besides, you're going to jail anyway. Why make it harder for yourself in the long run? 3 - Find the most aggressive scumbag attorney possible. Okay, seriously, try to find a former district attorney. If you can afford it. I can't afford it. Or rather, my cheapskate boyfriend can't afford it. So he says. But if you can sell some items, or go work in a brothel, or pick up some part time work as a drug dealer, or sell your soul to Satan, or blackmail your local congressman, do it! 4 - Avoid all this mess by simply picking up the phone and calling a cab. It's the difference between forty bucks and four thousand dollars for legal help, not to mention various fines and the humiliation of blowing into a contraption attached to your steering wheel (of course, in L.A., getting a DUI seems to be a rite of passage). Let's not even mention your car insurance skyrocketing and all those stupid classes you're forced to attend where you'll be inundated with second hand smoke and pity stories by professional drunks. And, lest I sound like a complete narcissist, there are other lives at stake! 5 - Possibly the most important piece of advice I can pass on: Fire your so called designated driver (who got drunk on the "job") as a friend. Cuz with homeys like that, who needs enemies.

In the past, I've gotten jury summons from Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, West L.A., LAX, and Torrance courts. As it turned out, this courthouse wasn't that bad. I got used to the 10-15 minute walk from Disney Concert Hall for free parking. The parking garage lines moved fast upon entering and exiting with workers scanning the jury badge for you. The court security line was never long and it moved fast. The Jury Assembly Room was pleasant and spacious. Restrooms were clean. The workers I encountered were nice and efficient. The worst part of this courthouse was definitely the elevators. Prepare to wait!!

It's already inconvenient to get to the justice center, and now you have to park several blocks away and walk. Yes, they pay for parking, but that hardly seems like enough to justify the walk. But my main issue is that all the floors that the courtrooms are on are just so soul sucking. They're lifeless, cold, uninviting, and just miserable to be in. Everything is just so sterile. It feels like you're in a Soviet Era government building, not Los Angeles. I just wish they did the most basic of updates to give the place some sort of life to it. People are already not happy to be there. They should do something to try and make it feel better once you are inside.

I arrived 30min early, was assisted in 5mins, and got out in 10mins. - Finding the livescan room was a pain. A PAIN!! All the corridors looked the same. - I was not told about no picture! Good thing I had my makeup case with me, but since I didn't have a mirror I ended up drawing on extra eyebrows. I know, so sexy. - The roads surrounding the building are a pain to navigate. Overall, I didn't feel strongly one way or another about this experience but it was more good than bad and I am feeling generous.

Came here for a Livescan…read more There isn't much ongoing traffic here but everything seems to be really slow. I walk into the HR department 10 minutes before my appointment. I check-in with the receptionist and 30 minutes later do I get seen by the HR person. During that time the receptionist getting paid to handle personal affairs. Using words like "jerk off" in a large lobby with 3 other workers. The whole Livescan process was like 15 minutes and yet it took 1 hour of my time. The hardest is getting a job in the government but after that it's a breeze, you don't do anything.

The ~26 mile drive to and from the courthouse wasn't bad...when traffic isn't bad. My commute…read moreranged from 35 to 90 minutes. Truthfully I would have rather served jury duty closer to home, but in retrospect because I work from home I looked at the time to serve as a little adventure. The courthouse is a typical government building that isn't going to win any architectural awards. The jury assembly room isn't anything special, lots of chairs with only a few tables. If you want to sit at a table make sure you go early because I imagine those seats fill first. If you complete your orientation online you get to arrive an hour later then the rest of the group, but it'll likely mean you don't get a table seat. Free wifi, though on the 1st day the connection kept dropping. Funny to watch people get fussy over a dropped connection. There are vending machines just up the hall from the jury assembly room and a Coffee Bean a short 2-3 minute walk. I had lunch at Phat Birds (I wrote a review) which was good and filling and walkable. There are numerous places to find, all within 3 miles or less. The area surrounding the courthouse is quite nice, lots of trees and grass and shade. A pond, watch for duck droppings though. There's a public library on property that's was terrific for the 2 hour lunch we were given (lunch is usually an hour and a half). Parking is free and onsite for jurors, which is MUCH better than downtown. Only served 1.5 days on the panel, never got to the jury selection process; judge released us, no details given. Plea bargain maybe? The chairs in the jury box are comfy and adjustable, nice touch.

After further investigation, we figured out it was the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Van PARKED NEXT TO US! I left them a note, called the Santa Cruz Police Department, was told to file a report online. After several attempts, I called them, and the LA County Sheriff's Department, I was given the run around, and still haven't heard from them (LA COUNTY). I filed a claim with my insurance for "informational purposes only" and a report with officer Bayani (sp) at the SC Police Department, and emailed him photos. The damage to my car wasn't that bad, it needs a good buffing, but, they're refusing to take responsibility. In fact, a man claiming to be a deputy phoned that night to tell me he loaned the van to cadets who went to a dance in Santa Cruz. I also have a voice mail message from a woman who sounded intoxicated claiming to have seven "witnesses" that she didn't hit my car. Um, okay. Yeah, you did. I've sent the photos to the SCPD, and after a few weeks have given up hope that any police agency would EVER do the right thing. I'm appalled that the Sheriff didn't call me back, as I left messages with his rude secretary who told me there was NO way that a LA county sheriff's van would be in Santa Cruz - despite the fact that I have photos. Tonight, I've decided to use YELP to out them as criminals. I will share a few photos, just because, you know, they weren't in Santa Cruz!
