Mike, one of their employees, came by with this great snow plow and cleared out my back lot of about three feet of snow in less than an hour. I used Mento 18 years ago for a patio that still looks great, so I contacted them again for another one that extended it to another part of the yard. They were able to work on it pretty quickly and we love it! It came out so well. They also created two pathways in the yard. One is a kind of secret garden and another is to a secluded gate. We used Goshen rock and they cut it as needed. It was hard work and the crew was very professional and cleaned up perfectly. They made my yard a perfect respite and I am so pleased. Dan Mento sold us a house that he listed as "100% remodeled - top to bottom" it was a half ass job, done is a rush, using mediocre materiel, poor workmanship, and total lack of integrity and honesty Dan Mento took screens from our windows last October to be repaired, has yet to return them (is this stealing by law, since he removed them?) Promised to replace bathroom window on 1st floor, since it failed inspection 08/2021, this was 11 months ago, job still not done! Kitchen /bath cabinets door needed to have hardware replaced, and guess what still not done Instead of removing an old / damaged pool in the backyard, he just filled it up with dirt, and cover it 1/2 way with grass seed (you should what we have done since he delivered this mess!? Garage door was to be fixed, it does not shut as it is bended, he was to repair it, NOT done! Gutters leak all around the house, have to be replaced... although he indicated they were 100% replaced during "his" renovation project! Windows on 2nd floor rattle as they were not properly sealed, same with living room on 1st floor Seal on top of kitchen counters is coming off, same with all floor sealings, and shower WHO DOES this type of work and call themselves decent? Description of Work: Dan Mento - owner-renovates homes half ass, promises to abide by the home inspection list but does NOT, assures 1 yr. guarantee on the work performed at the house, but fails to comply abide by his word His lack of professional - personal integrity is appalling not to mention frustrating - disappointing! read more

This driveway and stone work was done in 2016. No proper drainage. No weep holes. No where for water to go but lift up the driveway over 2 inches in the freeze of 2018, and now the driveway needs to be completely replaced. There is an alarming lack of integrity at Mento Landscaping, and I would not recommend using Mento for any size project. I ignored some red flags during initial discussions, and am now left with a big mess. - After taking initial deposit in Summer 2018, Mento disappeared for months. No returned calls, no returned emails. In October I got a voicemail message that they were coming on a particular day. Never showed up, no call, nothing. I had to put the project off until the next spring. - The job was not done how we discussed, and it violates our town's building code. Mento refuses to do anything about this. - The soil they placed in our entire yard is filled with shards of broken glass. Not a few pieces, I have filled shopping bags with large sharp pieces of glass. Nobody noticed this when they were spreading the soil? Obviously it was garbage quality material. Mento will not do anything about this. - I learned after the fact that Dig Safe was not called, which seems like an extremely risky corner to cut. - The contract specified that they would hydroseed the lawn. They never did. Mento sent an email after finishing the initial work stating "I will send the hydroseed machine back out in 2 weeks to hit it with hydro. That will give the grass a good jolt. It's still a bit early now.". When pressed later on, the sales person lied saying that he never mentioned hyrdoseeding. When shown the contract, he said he would hydroseed and went to his truck and sprinkled some scotts grass seed from a little can on a few spots on the lawn. He announced proudly that he had hydroseeded. - Mento should get a portable restroom for his crew. I came home to an irate neighbor who complained that the landscapers were urinating in full view of his wife and kids in his yard. TL;DR: Dishonest businessmen, sloppy work, poor materials, ended up with a big mess that will have to be redone. Edit 2019-08-21: For the first time since living in our house (12 years), our basement now floods due to the faulty drainage system Mento installed. read more

Very impressed with this company! The first experience was an immediate call back and quote. Mr. Joe Mento came by and is a true gentleman who figured out how to turn a property with an atrocious curb appeal into an oasis. I had retaining walls built, fences installed, driveway and a basketball court installed for a price in the ballpark of what I wanted to spend. I am just waiting for the sod and irrigation because I'm finishing up the siding on my house. There is no doubt in my mind that it will look mint. This company rolls deep. They banged out this work so fast it blew my mind. It was also some crappy weather they endured. Another thing that impressed me is I was treated like I imagine affluent customers are treated. NO NO CALL SOMEBODY ELSE I wished I had read the reviews, before I contacted them to do some work. The salesperson gets the job and your deposit, then no communication. The salesperson has no customer service skills. He tells you when he will call to schedule a date when work will begin, and doesn't. While 4 weeks later I was still waiting and getting the run around The girl in the office, tells me that Jason will call me, this goes on for another 4 days (no call). The following week the girl in the office calls and tells me when they will be out to start the job, that day comes and by 9:30 that morning I call to get a time when they may be here, the office tells me there not coming out today , but she gives me another day there coming. And still no call from the SALESPERSON. There are many landscaping companies out there today, try calling them. read more

We used Mento landscaping service to redo our entire front lawn and put in new fences. Overall, the experience was quite a roller coaster (for those who hate roller coaster). We decided to go with this company for the lawn and fence because they did a good job on paving our driveway. We were hoping to continue using them for other future projects based on their work on our driveway. However, things started to go downhill from there. Bad and vague communication and customer service from both the salesman and front desk. I would not recommend this place unless it's a small or a one-day job. If you decide to go with this place, make sure all agreement and communication between two parties are documented in the contract before putting down the deposit. read more

It's hard to review a company if they haven't shown up for THREE months since the deposit. We have been chasing them since a deposit was made on 4/15/19 and no one has shown up for either appointment. Calls are not returned, no one has called to reschedule, no one calls to say they can't make it. Don't waste your time. We had an appointment to have our yard looked at and get a quote. We waited 15 minutes past the appointment time before we called. First we were told that they were trying to get a hold of the person who was supposed to come look at our yard, but he was on a motorcycle and didn't respond. Second we were told that the bike broke down (with no explanation for the lack of communication). Then we were told that he was on a job in Weymouth. They couldn't even get their stories straight about why we were blown off and could have cared less about our possible business. read more

Thought they looked like a good company until I got my walkway and stairs done. They didn't secure my front porch, just put the post into the sand. So it began to pull away from the house. The bricks of the walkway became lifted, and the granite stairs look like they are now sloping down hill. It's not anything a company should be proud of. I have had three great experiences with Mento Landscaping. They built a driveway apron and edging that looks perfect. They do my annual clean up and bark mulching. And recently they built a large retaining wall for me. Jason is always on time, both with appointment and quotes. Mento give you notice of when they will be there and how long the job will take. Pricing is always fair, in line with others, but the service makes the price a tremendous value. The jobs are done, complete, and have those small extra's (driveways swept, yard raked, small plantings that perk up the job) that make you happy you picked Mento. read more

Many companies place there own reviews. Let me give you information. Not a review. I used Mento's for only a small project, ($3,000). I also am from a less than affluent town (Hull). Judge these factors for yourself. I had a patio of pavers put in and a granite and brick stairway leading to it. Since Mento's finished, I have brought in 3 companies that do same thing and all were amused shall I say at the work that was done. Worse, I tipped a hundred for the initial job. I have called Mento's on three occasions. The first time they came out to reset quite a few pavers and wall (part of stairwell down to patio) that were buckling in, out, sideways etc. Now when I say they came out, they worked briefly and told me things were supposed to look as they did which made little sense since they did not look like that when they initially did the job. Three other company said they work was shabby and half-a**ed. The compression of material under stones was done in a manner that has had my patio sink about 3 inches and buckle each year. Meaning not done properly. Many of the caps on the stone wall were falling off as soon as two years after job. I called last year and knowing how bad the service is as well as job, did not identify myself. I asked woman who answered phone "if I hire you for a job do you stand my your work?" She assured me they did. I then told her I was a previous customer and explained that each year thing fell apart and I was paying people to reset Mento's work and that I'd been calling without response. She was annoyed telling me "she wished I had not tricked her." I replied, "I wish Mento's actually did what she claimed." She assured me they would respond and of course I never heard from them. Now as Spring arrives I am about to hire another stone worker to continue to repair the buckling pavers and broken down stairwell and walls. Use them if you are spending large money maybe, I really don't know but as a small job, get a local guy. These folks could not have sucked more, work wise and customer service wise. Mento recently completed a major overhaul of our front landscaping and walkway. They tore out all the old shrubbery and replaced it with a wonderful selection of plants and bushes. They replaced the old brick walkway with a curved, herringbone pattern paver walkway that is a work of art. It looks so wonderful that I continue to look out the front door to admire their craftmanship. Their crew was courteous, hard working and cleaned up everything afterwards. Hired Mento to completely replace a giant driveway. Pricing was reasonable and the staff of workers very professional. I had them remove a garden and trees on the side of the driveway. Because my backyard gets a lot of water, they needed to add extra gravel and stone and barrier paper to the ground. Took more time, but they wanted to get it right so I would not have future problems. John, Josh and team were very conscientious and definitely put pride in everything they do. They have also done family members patios and firepits and years later, they still look great. They also cleaned up the streets in Braintree after the snow this year, and ended up fixing other contractors messes. They know how to operate heavy machinery the proper way. Definitely recommend. I believe that Jason's customer service skills would be cringe-worthy for the owner of this company to hear. I recently tried to schedule a fall cleanup and they gave us the runaround - initially giving a very high quote (that we agreed to pay since it was late in the season) and then never actually being "available" to do it. When I called at the beginning of a warm week to hopefully schedule the cleanup, Jason said they "weren't really doing them anymore". Which is fine - understandable for the last week in December. But since you've already verbally committed, had us stop searching for other landscapers, it would have been great if Jason had tried to schedule at least an abbreviated service for us. If I were this business owner - I would be upset with Jason turning away a) new business and b) any future referrals. read more

Contracted with Mento to remove and replace an existing walkway, construct a wall in front of my house and reseed my front yard. The walkway and th wall work was very professional and well done. The front lawn was half sod and half seed and never grew. They returned the following year and did the same half sod and half seed and again the sod died and the seed never grew. Spoke to Jason and he said that the sod not growing was my fault for not watering it long enough even though I was never instructed on the care of the sod. I am disappointed that Mento is unwilling to share in the responsibility and the cost to seed the lawn properly. read more

Mento Landscaping is hurting Braintree. They build houses in parcels that take years for Townhall to approve based solely on size of lot. Now they are radicating 7k sq ft of trees in the highlands and got permit to build 25 feet from wetlands even after a report was just published that this area has very bad air due to overdevelopment while tHe owner John Mento lives in Holbrook with his family. read more

Having GC'd my new home build I was horrified to once again hire a contractor for services. I called about 15 landscape companies to complete the last phase of our build which was a sizable project. Of the 15 companies I called for a quote only half actually showed up for the initial appointment, and only three were able to follow through with a quote. More of the same from this industry. Fortunately I had to call AAA for my dead battery and the AAA service technician casually suggested Mento. As a last ditch effort I called Mento. Jason showed up on time the next day and gave me a price on the spot. No games. We hired them and they delivered exactly what we wanted and more. They arrived a day EARLIER than scheduled, and went above and beyond without trying to oversell anything. They completed a 180 long retaining wall on a challenging slope, brought in yards of fresh loam, graded and seeded in 3 days flat. Cleaning out the brush alone was a task but they must have had 10 guys cranking it out first day. My entire neighborhood was impressed with their speed and quality. I even noted how clean they were making sure to sweep the street everyday. You can read my other reviews and see that I'm not a grass is always green type. I continue to talk up Mento to my neighbors and found out that they were hired based on my recommendation to complete a large patio. I recently hired Mento to help plow out my driveway. I described my driveway and the situation and they quoted me at $100. Initially, they came by and were able to plow the first 1/4 of the driveway. The man explained to me that he needed to get a bigger truck/front end loader to do the rest. He said he would come back within a few days to finish up the job and I could pay him half now, half later. Well he didn't have the right change so I ended up giving him $80 with the promise he would be back. Well, TWO WEEKS later and after multiple texts and lots of promises by them that they would come back -- they still havent. I recently asked for a refund of my money since they obviously have no plans to come back and finish, but i still have no heard anything from them. I would have just appreciated an honest answer that they could not do it instead of all this run around, causing me to wait and wait and lose $80. I'm very very unhappy. read more

We just had Mento put in a large paver patio in our backyard and they did an amazing job! It turned out better than I had thought it would. I forget our sales rep's name but he was great and they have all their paver blocks on display as a large patio space around their offices so you can go and pick out the color pavers you want. Install day Rodrigo's crew showed up with the rep promptly at 6:45 AM and they started work by 7 AM. They were done by 3 and the patio looks perfect! They reseeded our lawn for us as the bobcat tore it up pretty good since it rained the previous night. Additionally, we had asked them to haul away some brush we had in the yard which they didn't charge us for. Also, about a week after they installed the patio we realized that they had dug up an old stump that was in our yard for us. We hadn't even asked them to and it wasn't even near the patio, they either did it because it was in the pathway of the bobcat or just to be nice, either way it was a VERY pleasant surprise! Highly recommend, will definitely use them for our future landscaping projects. read more
