Mr Noodles - this may not be as good as Singapore's but this is by far one of the best noodles in Brighton

Argh! I should have listened to my inner radar better…read more It was a cold and rainy evening when I arrived in Brighton for their inzugural official Yelp event. Having a little time before the event, I was looking for something warming for a quick dinner and Mr Noodles caught my eye as I drove past on the way to park at Churchill Square A quick walk back up the street led me to read the menu offering ramen - perfect cold weather food and cheap at £6.80 for their signature Mr Noodles ramen bowl. So, I headed in to find canteen style seating and a largely student clientele I supplemented my ramen with an order of fish sushi. Sadly, the sushi was dreadful. Possibly the worst sushi I've ever had. The maki rolls were pre made. The rice was cold, tasteless and hardened with anaemic filling The ramen bowl was large with yellow soft egg noodles rather than proper ramen noodles. The soup tasted more like Chinese noodle soup. The dish was at least filling even if it wasn't authentic ramen To be fair, the price suggests that they're catering more to the student rather than tourist trade and while I toyed between 2 and 3 stars, I can't quite fogive the atrocious maki rolls. Next time, I'll be more organised and arrange to have dinner with one of the local Brighton Yelpers

I got bubble tea in Brighton!!!!…read more Yep, I've finally found somewhere that can satisfy my cravings for a sweet milky drink laden with chewy tapioca balls. Who would have thought that this somewhat strange combination could make me so happy! They have a selection of flavours which means I will have to return on a regular basis until I have sampled the lot. This time I tried the mango, the taste was fresh and subtle, I'm definitely a fan. And at £1.95 it's a tasty bargain too. The restaurant was empty when I went in, it was about half two in the afternoon so I'm hoping that trade does pick up at more regular meal times. It did give me a good opportunity to chat to the lady about the availability of bubble tea down south though! I didn't stop for food but had a quick browse of the menu. Lots of Japanese style rice and noodle dishes, katsu curries and a limited sushi choice. I will be back soon to sample the food and get my bubble tea fix!

Paeonia - Lychee oolong + signature milk tea (both with boba)

It was like being in an upscale boutique, but for boba and it totally set the mood. There was no queue and we promptly put in our orders. I went for the fluffy cheese tea mango and my other half got their signature fluffy cheese milk tea. You can customize your drink's sweetness level and the ice level, but we kept it standard. We opted to add tapioca pearls for our toppings which is an extra 70 pence per topping. Although it was a bit of a wait for a drinks (there was only one worker), I waited in anticipation as I love sweets and bubble tea. The nice girl explained that their drink covers are made special and the heart plug comes out and you're able to stick it in the middle. Sipping from that spot will get you a taste of the fluffy cheese. On the opposite end is the opening for the straw and that'll allow you to get a taste of your drink/boba. It's brilliant really! I wasn't sure what to expect from a bubble tea shop in Windsor, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. They don't skimp on the fluffy cheese and it tastes wonderful. It also pairs well with their drinks. The boba was also perfectly chewy and not overcooked or overly sweet. From the servicescape, to the packaging, to the product itself - they've really done a wonderful job and I wish we had a spot like this back home on Maui. Highly recommend a stop here if you're nearby.

I got their signature milk tea made with soy milk, but it tasted super milky. It hardly had any tea in it. But my better half got the lychee oolong, and his was pretty good. The boba quality is good, too.

REVIEW FOR BUBBLE-CI TEA AT MEADOWHALL, SHEFFIELD…read more The only good thing I can say is that the drink itself was nice. The service was awful. Only two workers at the store, resulting in huge queues all day long. One serving, and one making the drinks - meaning we had to wait for 30-40 mins with approx. 10 people ahead of us. Simply not good enough! One more person making the drinks would halve the waiting time. And when we finally got to the front of the queue, we were told that they were out of tapioca pearls - brilliant! The one item that should be in plentiful supply was not available. And of course, the first tapioca scoop was free of charge - and when I asked for a free substitute topping I was told "no". Now, that's a company that values its customers, eh! And to add insult to injury, the girl making our drink simply disappeared for 3 minutes for no apparent reason. She never said anything; just casually sauntered off and reappeared several minutes later without so much as an explanation or an apology for the delay. The takeaway is that we will not be visiting Bubble-CI again. Damage done! We will take our business elsewhere next time. Plenty of other competitors in the market.

I never really got into the whole boba hype when I was growing up. Still, the prospect of boba on the other side of the Atlantic piqued my interest when I was in the neighborhood... First things first: you'll definitely feel the dollar-to-pound conversion when you peruse the menu. While I am no stranger to paying extra for some of the fancier toppings (like jellies), I was a little disappointed to see that even the boba tapioca balls cost an extra £0.50. (Maybe this is normal outside of the States, where the drink is known as "milk tea" instead of "boba"? Because otherwise I find it hard to believe that boba can be sold without, well, the boba...) I went with the Assam black milk tea because I find that choosing the most basic of milk teas is the best way to evaluate a boba spot. It wasn't as sweet as the basic black milk teas that I usually can find in the U.S. (understandable, as most drinks in the U.S. are probably sugarier). The boba was fresh (to be expected, as I had pay extra for it...) At the end of the day, I had paid £4.50 for the regular size of some pretty average tasting boba. The shop itself is pretty tiny, though the seating is pretty hip-looking.
