Mediocre food. The filling for the tacos which was ground beef, was burnt and tasted terrible. I had to ask for sour cream, and they gave me the tiniest container of it. Chips were good, salsa was too thick. Pretty disappointed. I live in California and I guess I'm a bit spoiled with yummy food. read more

Forever this has been good, but it's going downhill fast. I know it's hard to get help when people can stay home and get free money, but when it affects food and service, it's hard to rave. We ordered drinks with our food. After 15 minutes we saw our server and asked how the drinks were coming. Response was "I don't know, there in the bar" hummm We went in and retrieved them. Now we've been there 45 minutes, look around and see our server sitting at a table having a good chat with a couple. We asked about our food again when we got her attention. She went to the kitchen and brought cold food and the shredded cheese for my taco. At this point, we asked for a manager. She was very annoyed when we showed her the crispy dried up refried beans, the cold fajitas and my plate of cheese. She shrugged and said "I don't cook the food!" My husband said look, this isn't even edible! The manager said " I will give you 20% off the next time you come in." Next time??? Although today was Good Friday, service and food was great! Our waitress was super friendly and was consistent in refilling our drinks, chips, and hot sauce. We ordered the beef fajitas and their homemade flour tortillas - 10000% best choice you could make! We will be back for more soon! read more

My husband and I - along with my Sister went to Mercados the Day before Easter Sunday 2024. We all enjoyed our Cheese Sauce and Chips, the Chicken Enchiladas, and other Meal Entrees. It is the Chocolate Cake that my sister and I ordered for Dessert that we did not like. The Cake is Very thick .. almost 5 inches thick and Not Moist at all. I'm from out of town. Mercado's is not great, but you can get by on it. i ordered a large queso with meat, it was good; but expensive, especially considering the size. I feel like I ordered a large queso with meat, but it must of been a small. I couldn't imagine anything smaller. aside from that, i really can't put my finger on it, but there is surely room for improvement. i guess what I mean is that nothing was stand out good, nor where the portions or size of an item stand out, and nothing was unique, in fact everything felt a bit generic. read more

We always enjoy eating in Tyler @ Mercado's. The chips and hot sauce are good along with the flour & corn tortillas they bring you before your meal. My wife had the cheese enchiladas with sour cream sauce and I had the Mercado (2 enchiladas , cilantro lime rice , taco and charro beans). It was All delicious ! The stars are for the staff. Two margaritas, two taco plates and a cup of soup- $54.50 is pretty spendy. The food was about as mediocre as it could get and we are Mexican food snobs. Margaritas were just tart lime juice. The rice was hard, never seen refried beans without a cheese top. And someone needs to explain the squeeze butter! I have eaten here 3 times and each time has been pretty good. The atmosphere is more like a fun house as every wall is covered in some type of decor, very bright colors, etc. It is a large place and the layout can be confusing depending on where you are seated. The staff has always been very friendly and make every effort to provide a good time. I have had their enchiladas as well as the fajitas, both of which are pretty good and that fajitas were cooked just right. The beans and rice are ok, very filling. The chips and salsa are pretty good but not spicy enough for me. I have not tried a lot of the menu items but there is a pretty good selection for just about anyone, including kids. They have increased their prices over time, as has everyone else, but all in all it is a pretty good experience. If I lived in Tyler I would eat here on occasion, but probably not regularly. read more

While in Tyler, multiple locals had recommended that we try Mercado's, a well known and lively Tex Mex spot south of Downtown. You will know this location by the large castle-like building and bright/flashy lights with kitschy decor. There is plenty of parking and seating making it prime for large groups. We decided to sit at the bar and order margaritas chips and guacamole. The chips were very thin, warm and crispy and the salsa was also flavorful, chunky and tasty with my main dish. They have a really good HH deal for margaritas and beer... i think $3. My margarita was just too sweet and tasted mostly of the mixer; I only had a few sips. Luckily, it was very cheap. I tried the new Chipotle Chicken Burrito bowl which cam with seasoned grilled, spicy chicken, rice, black beans, pico de gallo, corn salad and avocado. It was pretty fresh and light compared to all the other menu items. The queso was very good and not too thick with maybe bits of pepper. My coworker had a combo which came with enchilada and fajita to try a few items. The meals come with a lot of heavy food so this would not be somewhere I would come often. I grew up in the area but moved away when I was younger. We always made it a point to eat at Mercado's when we were in town on a visit. We recently moved back to East Texas and made Mercado's one of our first stops. Not sure what changed but the food is not what it used to be. I am hoping we stopped in on an "off day" for the cooking staff. The recipes have definitely changed from what they were years ago. This change was not good. I miss the old Mercado's. Luckily, there are other great mexican restaurants in the area to enjoy. I guess we will be exploring them next time we go out. read more
